Wat een pech! Wij waren in de krokusvakantie op Texel en hebben de giervalk bij de eerste poging al goed kunnen waarnemen in de Muy en later nog een keer in de Slufter. Het kan verkeren.....

Het was al even stil, maar nu begrijp ik waarom. Van harte gefeliciteerd met de geboorte van jullie 2e spruit. Dan maar even geen giervalk, de belangrijkste aanwinst van dit jaar hebben jullie al ;-)
Haha het was aangekondigd in mijn communitypost ;) en gelukkig de giervalk dus wel gezien op de 3e dag van de kraamweek, maar helaas geen bevredigende beelden. Dat moet ooit in de toekomst maar eens

Will it be accessed by any ornithological boards, not sure about the Netherlands but in the UK Gyr falcons are quite a common escapee/release from collections and falconers. Its quite rare to see one get accepted by the BBRC (especially in England and Wales).
Yes it will be reviewed by the CDNA for both identification and status. But as the bird got here as a first calendar year bird in dec 2023, is proven unringed, acts as a wild bird, doesn't show any signs of hybrid influence and doesn't have any other things like a gps tracker or leathers I think it will be accepted. We have about one record every 8 to 10 years of this species.
It is true that we sometimes have escaped Gyrfalcons of Gyrfalcon hybrids in the netherlands also, but they are easy identified as escapes by tame behaviour, leathers or rings on the talons, occurence in the wrong time of year or in adult plumage. although in dutch here is a list of accepted and rejected records: www.dutchavifauna.nl/species/giervalk?all=1

Het was eigenlijk een heerlijke dag. Heerlijk weer en de hele dag had ik echt hoop dat ik de vogel nog zou zien. Bovendien was het geen lifer dus de druk was er af.
Je toonde in ieder geval doorzettingsvermogen …
Geduld en doorzettingsvermogen zijn sleuteleigenschappen in het vogelen!
