Knowing Dalek Sec is the very first Dalek prop they used in S1 repainted is pretty freaking awesome
Kinda makes sence actually. I realize it was CGI in most places, but the dalek in Dalek and Dalek Sec are the only two in the RTD era seen to open their casings. Yeah, i know Caan technically had his shoulder sections open in Journey's end, but I don't know the story behind that, so we'll leave it as a maybe.
"Oh for fuck sake, it's the black one.."
~ Russell T. Davies, 2006
We need to know if that footage still exists!
You see Billie visibly ask Russell "What's he doing here?" If they did something like this now it would be all over the internet, they only got away with it then because how new the show was, the fandom wasn't as dedicated as they are now! Even the operator knew there'd been a mix up and tried desperately to fix it!
I can assure you there was a dedicated fandom in 2006. There's been a dedicated fandom for decades.
@@harrypainter7472 Yes but not as internet based as it is now, now they can't film on a street without half of the fans who live within a few miles travelling there!
@@sarahglover3286 They couldn't back then either, that's why they filmed it all in studios.
Shove a bow tie on it and they could’ve pulled it off as a Dalek in a suit
"Well, I ain't a fraid of no man in a suit" - New York Worker in Sec's focal episode, circa 1930
I thankfully never watched this leak from BAFTA
Because i was too young to watch that kind of show
So me and the family never watched it spoiled, we watched the episode totally unaware that the daleks would return
And when they flew out at the end, my 10 year old mind EXPLODED!!!
Daleks and Cybermen now in the same episode for an epic finale showdown!
Its like christmas has come early within my local toy shop, every toy at a easy to buy price and there was free sweeties and chocolate for everyone!
Daleks always return...
It's RTD, it was expected. Except Series 3
@@paulflint6254 They did appear in S3. In one of what me as a 10 year old considered one of their scariest stories. I mean, a squid mutant full on eating someone's bound to leave an impression.
@@Pony-Potential i meant series final episodes. Sorry
@@paulflint6254 Ahh ok. Still, Sec is a ravenous beast in the midseason. Yeah, I know he does it to change into the Hybrid but all I saw as a kid was a monster eating a man.
Now, I unfortunately, having seen the darker corners of the net through YTPs and such, draw paralells to the vore community.
As a scene on it's own, it's quite interesting, knowing Time War Daleks have two mouths (the one on their mutated face, and the one under them which they can just launch their stomach from), but the internet has uh...tainted it for me.
I remember watching this and thinking they'd got a fan-made Dalek rather than a real one because of the different paint job. Wasn't until the episode came out that I realised it was actually a screen-used one.
This reminds me of the time that the Dalek Sec Hybrid got revealed on the cover of a Radiotimes magazine before the episode came out
That was a deliberate choice by the production team though. They recalled when Earthshock was offered an RT cover (the first since the Pertwee years) but JNT turned it down to preserve the Cybermen's surprise return.
I doubt many people even noticed. The revived show was only a year old at that point - many people probably assumed it was just a generic Dalek, not necessarily one which would ever appear on screen - like how the wrong TARDIS is sometimes used, or an old theme tune.
That fact that this is Dalek Sec's first on screen apperance is funny to me
I honestly thought the black dalek was meant to be like a dalek in a tuxedo to match the setting XD
Can also remember Sky News, Newspapers, and I believe even Doctor Who magazine revealing that "Billie Piper's final episode" would feature "a Dalek/Cyberman war"
Loved this. Totally bypassed me at the time. Seems crazy now that a leak would be such a big thing when there was no publicity (to the deterement of ratings) in Chibnall Who.
I'm always amazingly jealous of all those people who do reaction videos and manage to remain spoiler-free. For it to be an actual surprise when John Simm reveals himself in World Enough and Time, or when David Tennant appears in Day of the Doctor, or even when a Doctor regenerates. Us 'at the time' fans have to endure all the "Hey guys, Derek Jacobi's going to be in the next series of Doctor Who and he's going to play The Master!"
I think an interesting topic to explore would be: How much do 'spoilers' _actually_ spoil something?
It only really matters the first time.
Maybe people who weren't fans didn't make the connection?
The ID badges would've been vastly different so that would've given the gaffe away too
idk on the one hand it's sad that this got leaked, on the other hand, as someone who was aged 10 at the time this episode was airing, I cannot express how hyped we were knowing that the Daleks would be back for the finale of Series 2. The Cybermen episode flew straight over our heads, we all thought they were dumb, and knowing that the Daleks were going to show up for the finale to crack some Cyber heads made our July. That was a good summer.
Battles in Time gang!
Cybermen are my personal favourite Dr who villains so I wouldn't say they are dumb. Just that the daleks are more powerful and more iconic.
@@willjackson3432 that's just how my schoolfriends and I saw them when we were 10, basically just inferior to the Daleks and that's exactly how Doomsday depicts them so it reinforced that notion
probably get this a lot, but i love your youtube channel, it is very helpful.
This wasn't what ruined that surprise for me. It was the extermination effect being shown in the trailer after Fear Her. Why on earth they did that I do not know
I've always wondered that too... did they put it in the trailer because they thought the cat was already out of the bag?
I remember picking up on that too. My mates fobbed me off when I pointed it out. But that was the thing 12 year old me picked up on
Not really a leak but the one that really pissed me off the most was the BBC announcing the return of the Mondasian Cybermen AND John Simm in Series 10.
The lesson to learn here is "Never Try!" Love you Will
This reminds me of an interview i saw recently of one of the showrunners from Stargate Atlantis.
He wanted to keep the reveal of a previously killed off characters return for the end of an episode but SyFy channel included it in their promo for the episode revealing it early which he did not like.
Tell Britbox with their Blakes 7 thumbnails giving away the major cast changes.
@@frankshailes3205 The cover for DVD ,Blu-ray for Star Wars The Clone Wars season 4 gives away a character reveal.
“Oh for fuck sake, it’s the black one” wow Russell…. Wow
And in 2022, the more shocking twist would be if the Daleks did not appear at all in a finale of any kind. After all, there has been at least one Dalek in the final episodes now of 11, 12, and 13.
exactly
I did not know that happened. I bet Russell wasn't happy when this happened.
I also didn't know this happened.
same here
He was like to start the firing
I remember at the time it was all over the forum (was it Outpost Gallifrey still, or Gallifrey Base by then?) so it didn't go unnoticed.
I don't see it as a big deal. So they rolled out a black Dalek? That could have been for any reasons. Maybe it was a Dalek coming out in black because his invitation was a "Black Casing Affair". Or the fact that the Daleks will return EVENTUALLY (since they always do!)
Wasn't the Black Supreme Dalek in invasion of earth actually red in real life?
Nowhere near as bad as The Sun leaking John Simm. Never forget the crimes of that paper.
It would be really cool if they painted a Dalek or a TARDIS interior or alien object in Vanta black
2:52 Daleks meeting the 15th Doctor again
Because as we know. The Daleks have a side hustle writing for the Daily Mail
Wasn't there a daily review marathon you were supposed to be doing?
It's not daily. It's every Friday.
@@MrTARDIS I don't remember you saying that. Plus it means December will only feature maybe a fifth of your "December marathon" videos at the most.
@@AimeeRose1997 I elaborate on why this is the case in my Hartnell marathon intro video.
Didn't they consider putting retcon pills in everyone's drinks?
Luckily this didn’t spoil it for me back then so me as kid got a very nice surprise watching that episode aw memories
Luckily this didn’t spoil it for me back then so me as kid got a very nice surprise watching that episode aw memories
It is now my headcanon that the Void Ship landed in our universe by accident before recalibrating to their own
This would’ve amounted to a hint than a leak.
Loved this. Never watched the Baftas, so 4 year old me never saw it coming
I wouldn't have even noticed it was a different color l
I'd say the S8 leak was bigger than this. The first five entire episodes and their scripts all leaked.
I misremembered. I thought the Bafta Dalek had a red eye. Don't know where that came from.
I would have simply said "We originally wantet too youse this Black Dalek fore the parting of the ways, but it wasnt ready in time so we thought we bring it along fore this"
my god…the grammar XD
Dalek Sec escaped! Quick teleport him to New York in the 1920s!
Wow, thank God that one mistake didn’t screw everything up.
looks like an elegant Dalek
