      The Film Look some B-roll for the film I’m finishing up now. If I can make the A7S look as good as the T3i so it doesn’t stick out I feel like that’ll be a good starting place.

      We shot on T3i's for a while - really put it to the test. Jumping to the a7s was a really good decision, no regrets. The a7sii is probably worth getting. Some great added features like the inbuilt IS and 4K output. Worth the extra cash.

      If it’s just for creative film making (like in this video) the a7S is still the best bang for the money 💰 (800$?). The Gh5s just came out and... well it’s a APSC A7s. All the fancies are for hybrid shooters, who usually shot solo. Beside in September a7siii should be out!!!

      And, how did it go for you guys?
      Jumped in the same boat, today: I have a Sony 6300 and the A7S and full-frame look + a vintage lens,
      does seem very tempting. Also, the clearer/sharper Full HD, which I do not mind shooting on.
      I had a Canon T3i (600D) and sold it a while ago. Recently, I tried shooting something in Full HD on the Sony a6300 and it sucks a lot.
      I started missing the look on the 600D.
      So, here I am, looking for the A7S and eager to try out my current APS-C lenses from Sigma on it and some vintage full frame glass too :D

      This is my first liked comment ever!! Thanks bros! Hey I'm looking to get into freelance professional photography. Mostly photos but I'd like to be able to shoot great video if need be. Should I go for a7s or a7ii since they are both around the same price. I like the a7s for the high iso but the in body image stabilization on the a7ii sounds like it would a must have for a guy with shaky hands.

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  5 років тому

      In-body IS is great if you are planning to shoot a lot of handheld footage. But if you have a tripod or even a shoulder rig, a lack of IS certainly won't destroy the image. We chose the a7s almost exclusively for its low light performance. It basically opened the doors to shooting night exteriors without having to bring in a flood light to bump up exposure.
      Six and two threes, really. Either will give you a stellar image for the price. I'd personally go with the A7s because I love shooting night scenes.

    For naturalistic video and documentary with a lot of people recording, do you think is better an A7S or a G7? I mean, G7 is sharper in 4k, and, how I can rec 4k with a7s?

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  6 років тому +1

      We have never shot with the G7 but I have heard good things. One thing I would say about the A7s is that it can shoot in any shooting situation, and it may not be in 4K, but the sharpness will beat the sharpness of the G7 in low light.

  • @BONLEV

    that was a very informative video. thank you! the A7s is now less than 1000 euro for the body. I only have crop lenses and for example the expensive zeiss 24mm F1.8. So how does a7s crop does in low light? is there much difference in crop vs full frame mode? I also have a sony A6000 and a FS100. But I like the look of the A6000 more.

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  6 років тому

      The crop mode works really well in low light. Honestly, I can't see much difference between the full frame and crop mode because the A7s is so bloody sharp! We use crop mode for some of our EF-S lenses and the image quality is still really great.

      Most definitely. I think the one thing which now lets this camera down is the fact its only 1080p in camera. So a Ninja V will certainly get it back up to today's standard. We actually just got a film with this camera, if you wanna see more examples: ua-cam.com/video/fX8A0ZwSoYA/v-deo.html

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  5 років тому

      It really depends on your budget. All of the cameras you mentioned will work perfectly for vlogging, making video shorts, and recording lectures. They are varying in price, so I'd suggest working out your budget and maybe buying an extra lens or a cage for the camera if its in your price range. • @incendiesproductions
      @incendiesproductions 4 роки тому

      @@TheFilmLook Totally understandable! And I love the footage I've seen on this channel that you guys have gotten from the original A7S! Personally I'm still trying to save up money for a new camera myself (still got my Panasonic G85 in the meantime), but I do think the A7S3 is probably going to be my next camera once I can actually afford it.
      Just feels like Sony have kind of cemented their status as the King of the Hill for videographers/indie filmmakers at this point, between having a multitude of capable video cameras and a mass variety of lenses on the E-mount that ranges from their entry level APS-C models all the way up to their top line cine cameras like the FX9 and even the Venice. With that in mind, it really seems like Sony have the safest ecosystem to invest in overall among the prosumer tier camera companies. You don't have to invest in several different lens mounts for different camera models if you don't want to, unlike Canon (EF/RF) or Panasonic (M43/L).
      Hope you're both doing well and staying safe during this pandemic!

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  4 роки тому +1

      @@incendiesproductions They are definitely the king of the hill. They have built everything into that camera and future-proofed it so you would be able to use it for years. • @incendiesproductions
      @incendiesproductions 4 роки тому

      The Film Look Yeah, it’s kinda crazy just how good a camera the A7S3 is for filmmaking. The dynamic range, the 10bit color science, minimal rolling shutter, the various different “Ease and Quality of Use” improvements they’ve implemented compared to previous Sony cameras. And really, that 4K 120p is itself kinda brilliant for future proofing it. I won’t be using that much myself, but that it’s even there at all- and in a camera that’s capable of using that high frame rate even in low light environments no less... it’s just an all around hard to top package! Have you guys been considering investing in any native E-mount glass?

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  4 роки тому +1

      @@incendiesproductions Yeah all that packed into such a small body is amazing. The 10 bit colour is my favourite thing, that's the one thing I don't like about the mark 1. I don't think we would buy native glass. It's very expensive and we have already built up a nice collection of vintage lenses over the years which is perfect for how we shoot. It would be nice to use the AF tracking when shooting videos for the channel, but for filmmaking, we wouldn't use it.

I am planning on selling the kitlens and put the extra money in another lens with better fstop. I am mainly focused on fiction film production in controlled environment, so losing autofocus on adapters or so is not a big problem. I am a bit stuck with this since sony native lenses are extremely expensive..I was thinking about the 24-70L 2.8 from canon with adapter.. what do you think?

      @dylan-nguyen 5 років тому +2

      if you don't want to use AF, get a manual cine lens as they usually will have a longer focus pull so you can get more smooth focusing and a declicked aperture ring so you can change aperture smoothly as well.
      if you're going to get a lens with AF just stick with the Sony 24-70 f2.8, it's cheaper and doesn't require any adapter.

Here is a video we made about the ones we use, in fact since then we have collected a few more so we will be updating it soon - ua-cam.com/video/OnRhaOmHaZA/v-deo.html

      We don't have any native Sony lenses so we haven't even tried it. We tend to avoid auto focus when shooting a film.

      We usually use a few lenses, so I'm not sure which we used exactly. But we have a video on our most used lenses which you can find here: ua-cam.com/video/fIhoSkMqdZI/v-deo.html

    Hola te consulto algo para que me puedas guiar. Son mejores estas cámaras, o son mejores las filmadoras Sony, ejempo la Son Handycam FDR-AX33 4K, para grabaciones de video clip y streaming. Desde ya muchas gracias, así me decido por una u otra. Saludos

    Had it, sold it. Soft image sensor. You can soften a detailed image with great results but the other way round is a definite no no.

      We feed the camera LOT of light to keep the ISO down to a minimum.

    • @TheFilmLook
      @TheFilmLook  6 років тому

      True, but 4K does not improve storytelling. The quality of the image you get from this camera is up there with the best and it is very cheap now.

      Where do you recommend to buy it from? Because I'm not sure what would you class as cheap because most places I've looked it's still expensive
