Laimbeer was great, the man put it all out on the line and when he sucked, he told you he sucked. He only played for his team, didn't kiss Jordan's behind and punished Bird and also frustrated everyone he played against. You gotta be doing something right if everyone hates you and this guy was doing everything right.
Say what you want about Bill Laimbeer, but he was an entertaining player. He was great at getting under people's skin and throwing them off their game. Plus he was a pretty damn good shot as well.
Bill is VERY underrated honestly God I used to hate the pistons and Bill Laimbeer -growing up in chicago as a bulls fan but with that said he probably belongs in the hall of fame, in his prime he was an elite rebounder and elite defender and did anything to win. Also, laimbeer and jack Sickma were the first stretch 5's, center with 3 point range. now many center's can shoot the 3 and run high pick and rolls but laimbeer was the first who was very good on the block and had post moves but also was just as comfortable facing the basket and knocking down long jump shoots very efficiently. If Laimbeer was not so dirty and cheap, he would be in the Hall of Fame. As much as I hate him he was a true Winner, who's style of play started to revolutionize the Nba toward the style of play we have now. Also, if not for a Very Very very bad foul call On Laimbeer in the 1988 finals and/Or Isaiah Thomas getting Injured the Bad Boys Pistons really should have been 3 time in a Row champions if they had not got ripped of and gotten a bad break.
Adam Sarduci good stuff! I never seen him play only highlight and old videos but I wish I was old enough during the 80’s and 90’s era of basketball! Always liked him cause people hated him
Honestly, he needs to go in for both his pro accomplishments and his WNBA coaching career. He is one of those players you love if he plays for your team, and hate if he is the opposition!
@@JanetMarieRose73 With the exception of Joe Dumar, that whole 88, 89 Piston team had that same character: love 'em if they are on your team/ hate them if they're playing against you.
Being a Pistons fan, I was a Bill Laimbeer fan. He was dirty, he was a Bad Boy but he was good. I miss the good old days when players hated each other. They wanted to win and not kiss each other and compare tats. That's the NBA I miss
Being a pistons fan, I always loved and was a big fan of Bill. He did evreything to win, he didnt care about what people that about him or fame. He just really wanted to win.
As much as we love to hate guys like him, we need guys like him around. We need guys like him around because it to give basketball players a real challenge, both mentally and physically

I used to hate laimbeer but I had the chance to talk to him in L.A' after a clippers game and I was surprised cause he's a really really cool person of course on the court he wasn't the same person jaja
I agree Laimbeer was one of a kind, great all around player, awesome blocker had a great shot, just pure raw talent. I miss the old Pistons. Probably one of the best teams of All-time.
Bill laimbeer was a very tough player and he was a white boy that didn’t give a fuck what color you were, he was rough and tumble and that’s what him so good
I thought the video was gonna be Laimbeer doing 'the shocker' with his hand in a game; like the first time anybody ever did it. Laimbeer invented 'the shocker'.
Ulysses432 agree. he couldn't jump more than 2 inches of the ground and couldn't dunk a basketball for christmas sake. But simply one of the best out side shooting big man and had great passing abilities for a center. add to that was the best block out man for defensive rebounds in the game...his overall game was oft overlooked because he was surrounded by many stars.
Most shooting big men (6'11" and taller) play with finesse. This guy sure is the only (or one of the few) shooting big men who can play the strength game.
I've seen every Warrior game for two years now. My biggest complaint is the "inconsistent officiating"...either missing blatant fouls or calling fouls that "weren't even there." There has to be a way to improve this situation.
Ahead from his time.A completely diferent center. He Score 3 points and He was great defender.Detroit had a White man who could face the Black players tough and after him no other could fill his place.
He is got Black heart and his Black arrogance destroy whiteness Boston's arrogance. Most of White guys used to be soft but that man made Michael Jordan lift weights and became Superman Jordan.Bad Boys are remember as nasty players but Isiah;Dumars;Vinnie Johnson ;Rodman:Salley;Mahones and gutsy Laimbeer open the roads for smalls franchise.Sorry about my english and what I learned most were reading Boston Herald hate about Bad Boys.Chuck Dale made average players confident. That was His main legacy.
The Celtics fans hate hate hated him. Also Rick Mahorn. I think it was Johnny Most the old Celtics announcer came up with the labels McFilthy and McNasty for them. And they wore it like a badge of honor. People always remember the rivalry with the Bulls but it was just as intense with the Celtics. They were the hill the Pistons had to climb just like the Pistons were the hill the Bulls had to conquer to GET to the finals. One thing I loved about a Laimbeer rebound is that it was headed upcourt to put pressure on the opposing D as quickly as possible, none of this holding the ball and letting the opposition set up.
Perhaps you should watch a similar film clip of Karl Malone. Or Kevin McHale. Bill Lambier's "EVIL" playing style was NBA hype. Sure, he played tough. But he give out nothing different than most of the rest of the league's tough guys of the same time. The NBA was discovering brand building in this era: Show Time in LA; Boston Garden 'history' with Bird; High flying Super Star in Jordan and the Pistons got to play the villian to all of them. Lambier and the Piston chose to wear that label with pride. Would Lambier be able to play this way in the modern NBA? Maybe not. But he is a smart man, he would find a way to bring his strong game to a modern version of the game. It is not like he couldn't shoot or play defense. Hate him if you will, but he played o role on two World Champion teams, and did that role extremely well.
The Laimbeer swipe! On defense, in the post. The offensive players back to you. Wait till he/she turns around and as soon as they show the ball you swipe down to knock the ball loose! Detroit Basketball 💎😉
@renzodj Muy buen tirador de 3, muy buen reboteador, tipo duro que encima saca a estrellas del otro equipo de sus casillas con su dureza y juego mental; a mi me parece un tipo bastante aprovechable la verdad ;-)
I remember during the 1990 Finals, Laimbeer got in Duckworth's head. Took him out of his game and out of the series. I was watching a playoff game the other night (can't recall the teams) and I saw a player go to the basket and it was if the defenders were scared to knock him on his ass. They fouled him but the player never hit the floor. My first thought was what would Laimbeer and Mahorn would have done if the player was going to the hole and they were at the basket?
ZuberiGaming you know the game is no where near as good as it used to be. There is still great games but nothing like the 80s and 90s. The Bad Boys from Detroit in the 90s and the war with the Bulls was just awesome. Lakers vs Celtics, Pacers vs Knicks etc.. The NBA was the shit back then.
@DontMessWithZohan10 Thanks for reminding of this. I will take one Bill Laimbeer over the likes of Pau Gasol, Yao Ming, Greg Oden, Dwight Howard and any other half-ass center in the league. Laimbeer played more like a foward but he was a better center than the bums they have today.
Laimbeer was an antagonist, but he got the most out of his ability. I'm curious...has anybody ever seen him dunk? I remember watching him play for Notre Dame and in the NBA and I don't recall ever seeing him dunk. At 6-11, he surely had to be able to.
This video has a shot of him making a lay up that with a bit more muscle could have been a dunk. It might just be he didn't feel he needed to make that kind of statement. Like Barry Sander never spiking the ball after a touchdown.
@@greggiddens6680 A must read is Lambier's Wikipedia entry. No, really.
