    I'm still getting harassed almost daily by alt accounts from this person lol 😂 Jealousy only works upwards, never downwards!
    ---
    What happens when you put all of your stats on the wrong attributes? Well it can reveal some of these gamer types:
    - tryhard
    - rage quitter
    - loremaster
    - helpful newbie
    - backseat gamer
    - meme lord
    - know-it-all
    But today, we talk about the self-appointed leaders and people who damage communities through: jealousy, self-obsession, ego and anything else!
    I had a lot of requests for this video, so here it is!
    Enjoy!
    -
    fwiw:
    I tried to meet this person multiple times (in person), but like all keyboard warriors, they hide away; surrounded by groups of friends in their safe space.
    When they start (What they consider losing the argument), they turn on the defensiveness and play the victim.
    Total. Pathetic. Coward.
    If anybody in the community is thinking of visiting, then Holiday Planet is a great place to play!
    Tell Morgan (The technician) you know me, and he'll sort you out with whatever maintenence you need! Super cool guy!

    this is a huge problem on online rhythm games aswell (im mainly talking about osu mania here)
    a lot of people gatekeep if players are worse then them at their best skill since a lot of players prioritise 1 skillset instead of being well rounded. It gives them such an ego on the one thing they are good at and makes them feel on top of the world when if they joined a top player tournament they would only be able to get a point or 2. Another problem is that you get judged by your rank or your dan(4 map course that "shows" your skill) I've seen a lot of people just get silenced vecayse they have been playing for less then a year and can't do a higher dan then someone else.
    I hope this can stop one day because it makes interacting with the majority of the community aggravating and annoying

      owww I really hate that!
      Do they have a Discord where people have "max difficulty passed" as part of their alias too? In the ITG community, there is a server just like that. You then get access to secret Discord lounges based on your highest clear also, where the most revered lounges probably only have 2-3 people in them. However, being in a chat room with 2 other people is apparently a bragging point, but I bet there is no conversation going on in there. It's an interesting idea, but it definitely promotes ego and what you described in the game (Gatekeeping based on ability).
      Is there a person in the community who is very humble? It's always nice having a very skilled humble player around when developing your skills. They usually provide a voice in situations like these for less skilled players. Its also fun to watch them crush everyone at events too 😊💯👌

    I'm experiencing the same as you right know, thank you for sharing this video. I'm an introvert, 38 y old player, I've been playing DDR since 1.5 and Pump it Up since the version with take on me, and it's astonishing how I was sucked in into a "highschool drama" just for being present at the venue trying to do my thing without bothering nobody. Sometimes people don't even know your name or where you come from, and they have a lot of pre conceived opinions about you or choose to believe in what speaks to their sad hearts.

      @s34nvideos  Місяць тому +1

      oh wow, that's great! It seems like you wrote my bio in your comment here 😆 Very similar!
      Sadly, I think it's just human nature for people to have preconceptions of others, but it's another to act on it. They don't know who you are, but they also don't know what damage their actions can cause to others. They have no idea if you're: lonely, vulnerable, going through grievances, or pretty much anything of the like.... but they feel it's important to flap their gums to gain social rapport and social status; pretty much climbing on others to get higher. It's disgusting.
      Sometimes it's important to find a voice and chop down a huge rotten oak tree, so that the other smaller, more interesting planets can thrive from it's shadows.

    The best thing about the music/dance game communities is how open and friendly they usually are. This makes them the perfect place for people who are a bit weird and introverted, as in most cases these people can fit in and have a good time much better and faster than within other social circles. However, their welcoming nature can also be their biggest vulnerability. There is rarely any filter and the people in the community tend to be very non confrontational, if not enabling. If there isn't anyone who stands up and keeps the problem players in check, it will occur naturally that some sad dickwipe will self appoint or try to muscle their way into a position of relevance by the means you described in the video. Usually it's someone that would be utterly irrelevant in any other context, and they abuse any power vacuum they can find. It can't be helped, unless someone else is already there to keep them from doing their thing.
    Just a side note here but you should also be self aware in this particular situation that while i and many others love your golden era internet humour, some people don't get it or think you're poking at them in a way that means harm, so you should try to bridge the gap and spell it out especially when there's a language and culture barrier in the middle!

      Next time I record a video in one take, and it ends up being 15 minutes long, I would prefer to contact you because I think: "Usually it's someone that would be utterly irrelevant in any other context, and they abuse any power vacuum they can find." sums it up perfectly! 😆😆💯 I'm dead!! hahaha! But only because it's so true!
      If this video helps some self-obsessed self-appointed ego-chasing irrelevant loser change their ways, then that's a good day in the office!
      Thanks for the tip! I'm not perfect by any means, but noted! 💯

    This isn't exclusive to the rhythm game community. Every hobby community has "that" person. These are people who put themselves in positions of authority and power. Usually because they don't have much else going on in their lives.

    • @s34nvideos
      @s34nvideos  Місяць тому

      Agreed! 💯💯
      It's kinda annoying that they administrate some of the places where people in the community rely on communicating. So they can control who sees what information and then delete what they don't like. It exacerbates the problem and enforces their imaginary power even more.

    I practically lived in the Trocadero in London for many years. The community ebbed and flowed, and was generally a positive place to be, but my goodness, the drama sometimes... I just couldn't be bothered with it as I got older. Eventually I just stopped visiting. Sad really. I suppose when you get enough people in one place the stronger voices will always assert themselves eventually.

      I think not using DDRUK (or any online forum) really helped minimise that a lot! I think the internet brings out the worst in people! I have noticed that the nicer voices usually aren't the louder voices. Maybe that's human nature, but it certainly seems rare!

    As someone who has been playing DDR for nearly 20 years. My local arcade is 8 on the Break in Dunellen NJ.
    Wherever you go, there is someone who will find something to gripe about…
    Alas, there is no simple way to fully remove toxic people from such a large community… There is 0 feasible ways to please everyone…
    I fall under the category as “perfectionist”, I primarily play Beat Saber, StepmaniaX, ITG and DDR… I’ll go on record to say I am…”above average” but limit myself to 15s of DDR and fixate on accuracy… which is only hurting me as a player… if I want to grow and get better at the game, I have to learn to take L’s…
    I am trying to work on myself and play the game through instead of restarting… For the record, I am on The Spectrum and have OCD, so… At the end of the day I cope.
    Regardless, I always make sure if I’m playing publicly, properly follow whatever etiquette (Rotating with other players; not abuse equipment, Provide any possible insight if warranted…etc.)
    One thing I want to make clear before I continue, I take it VERY personal if I am taken the wrong way and unintentionally offending someone… However, I am easily able to sniff out a troll and roll with it in a way that’s almost sarcastic, but not downright offensive….
    But I don’t take lightly to people going off on territorial/xenophobic tangents… frankly, there are a wide variety of communities I consider myself a solid member of, whereas ones I feel alienated or treats unjustified, I remove myself from…
    I just play to enjoy the game and expand my social network… as well as leaving my own sense of personal niche in the process.
    At the end of the day, are common interests should help us grow closer, not drive us apart….

      Thanks for sharing!
      I have visited 8otb a few times! Chris always gave us free break steaks when we visited, I miss them a lot! haha. The arcade has a lot of history and a few of the machines there were firsts or beta test machines! I bet some of the legendary players still pop in from time to time. I bet it's seen it's fair share of drama throughout the years too!
      I think looking at the community as a whole, the majority play for accuracy, but you're right, it's good to push outside your comfort zone if you want to improve! I find that happens a lot more when playing with others and having some challenges against each other. It helps me play songs/charts I never normally play too
      People will always be people, and toxic people will always exist, sadly... but having them cemented as an unofficial leader of a local community really drags things down in my experience (and apparently a lot of other peoples experience too!)

    5 cents from veteran, this is really unusual in today's world, when individuals are overly insecure and do not push themselves to their boundaries. For example too much complaining whether the content is hard or overlevel smth, instead of practice and learn what do you need to improve. Usually this type of ppl are loud.

    Not related to Pump per se, but sometimes I've been hearing voices of some Danzers (a coined term for "DB players") complaining *a lot* about not having more trend-based content pumped by IGS.
    Knowing how trends work, they also function as "creativity killers" under the eyes of artists. And it's truly a shame for anyone to bash on a game for the lack of up-to-date content, as someone who simply enjoys the game and its aesthetics.

    • @s34nvideos
      @s34nvideos  Місяць тому +1

      That's a community I never knew existed! Is the DB community very big in SEA? I always see machines in arcades, but I rarely see people play them. Maybe I just visit at the wrong times!
      That's kinda sad! I have noticed this with Pump It Up. Random example: A lot of the older versions have some great songs, with a great beat; perfect for freestyling for example... But most of that content has been removed in favor of newer K-POP (I guess more tending music).
      But when you remove these kinds of songs, and a lot of the electronic music that kinda sounds like every other song, then you're not left with too much anymore. I guess that could possible be an example of what would happen with DB if they did pump out new and trending songs.

    • @viviantan1034
      @viviantan1034 Місяць тому

      @@s34nvideos DB is big at China (and to extend Taiwan) and SEA, so it's no surprise that IGS already captured their audience at hand (something that DB's spiritual predecessor, Konami's DanEvo Arcade, couldn't at that time).
      On one hand, it's nice to imagine what new songs will DB offer. But the other me also concerns that the new songs (especially the elector variant) are meant to break the retro-esque aspect of DB as a whole, so I often think of more retro songs added to the game instead.
