I just saw a video on how to spot fake from authentic Chanels and they mentioned that bags made for Japan have different serial numbers. Your bag might actually have been an authentic bag.
People normally wouldn’t make vintage replica, they’ll make what’s on the new collection because vintage ones are really hard to remake
Fair play for the honesty. Some people would just say nothing.👌🏼
I’ve been put off buying from them, I’ve heard of a number of fakes being sold. I don’t want to risk it!

Sorry that happened and yes it's so true you must be so weary. On the purseforum they discuss this often with vestiere and fashionphile selling fakes and them not being professional and upfront about it unfortunately. I love STAUD and Polene, two amazing contemporary brands I've admired but haven't yet purchased from. I hear their quality is amazing? What do you think so far with both bags? xx

I have been buying Chanel bags since like 2004 and I am pretty sure there’s no random website out there where you can type in a serial number to see if the number is fake or not... Chanel employee can type in a serial number to verify if a serial number belongs to a particular model, but that’s an internal thing only staff can do that (and they won’t authenticate at the store so you also won’t be able to have the SA to verify). With that said, while I can’t say whether this bag was a fake, I’d say that the safest way to buy vintage is from reputable reseller AND use reputable 3rd party authenticator. Etinceler is the most trusted authenticator specialized in chanel bags and many recommended them on the purse forum.

Yr bag is actually authentic. However I did purchase a fake Chanel jacket from Vestiare collective with 2 certs checking outside authentic or not in 2 different companies and they refunded me at the end but resell it immediately 🤦🏼♀️and sold fast too...

Chanel will not authenticate their bag unless you have receipt from them. Also you cannot even check the serial number to them. Your bag was vintage and it’s hard to see if is really fake unless you authenticate them from the professional Authenticators
Proud Pinay You’re right. It’s harder to check with vintage Chanel pieces. Best bet is to send it in to authenticated. I like to authenticate with Etinceler and The Leather Surgeon.
Thank you for this video. Its so honest from you that I have suscribe! I have been looking today on this website because I wanted to purchase gucci shoes for me. However I found out the most of them listed are fake! I preferred to save more money and get them from the original retailer. I think it worth more the money and the time. You were too lucky of being refunded, some people did never get refunded and being force to resell the item over them again! 🙄😊

Thanks for making this. Ugh, I just bought a Prada tote on Vestiaire and it is definitely a fake! I can't believe it passed the authenticity check. I've sent it back for a "recheck", very annoying that they can't tell from the photos and videos i sent them...BE CAREFUL PEOPLE!

You cant check chanel's serial number online anywhere, it's only valid in their own system
Same as stone island it’s on their website and they check if it’s authentic
At least you got your money back, I would save up and buy at the boutique.
I am sorry to hear about your bad experience!! I just placed my first order at VC. Right after I paid but before I received the bag, I kept seeing so many reviews saying they sold fakes so I was super worried. When it came I checked it over since I know a little about what to look for. It looked real to me. I then had it authenticated by a reputable online LV authentication company and it came back as authentic. I love my new bag but I don’t know that I will buy from there again. It is super risky! Using a third party authentication service to double check any purchase that isn’t from the boutique is a must for me.
aww im sorry! I thought the bag looked authenthic tho! I have bought a few things from vestiare collective..nothing to expensive, i have also sold a givenchy antigona there with no problem. But recently i have been on the lookout for a gucci bag but most of the sellers sell their bags for pretty much the same price as a new one. But after hearing this i think im just gonna buy one directly from the store:P
Hi Louise, always go to a consignment store, there are quite a few in London by Harrods. Pandora Dress Agency is one of the best I’ve found... they authenticate everything before they put in on the shelves, and you can touch it etc...

Thank you for your video and I am sorry this happened to you and me. I bought a vintage Chanel wallet from the Vestiere. That was over a month ago. Currently it is traveling across the USA again according to the company according to the tracking they reluctantly gave me. Fedex told me the tracking wasn't addressed to me. So one month, 6 emails and 2 phone calls..NO WALLET. I have given up on the hope of ever getting this item. Very dodgy company. No customer service...Perhaps "The Vestiere" means scam in French. I would avoid this company unless you like being scammed and frustrated. C'est la vie

Ugh I was about to buy a vintage Louis Vuitton bag from this site. But the website says it authenticates it before it ships to you? So someone has approved it as “real” when it’s not? That’s not okay.

@@foxayfox omg!! but they do sell authentic luxury goods for too long :\ I believe those who sell it as fake are individuals because I list on my account to sell items that are real but they don't double check everything so I don't know how that happens to many but its badd
kali yeah most of the items are real it’s just both sites have apparently had fakes get through their “authenticity” checks, I know that Chanel in particular sued TheRealReal for selling inauthentic bags. I believe there was 7-9 fakes sold.

I’m sorry to hear that. I come across several opinions about VC.
By the way, I am seller and buyer in Vestiaire Collective and I have never had any bad experience. I sold a lot of my designer items and everything went well. Also, I have bought 2 Louis Vuitton bags, 2 Prada bags, 1 Gucci bag, Stuart Weitzman and Casadei heels via authentication process and all of them were authentic. Plus, I am experienced with authentic items and I could tell myself too, when they arrived. But of course, it’s not always up to company’s hands. I always check what’s up on a seller’s account before buying. Item’s description, clear and many pictures, seller’s badges, comments and answers on several items etc. Checking also what has already sold earlier, is really helpful!
By this way it’s not easy to get scammed. There are sellers who do sell non authentic items but it’s easy to be aware of that situation. A Chanel bag though always needs to be authenticated by the experts.
P.S. I have only bought from European sellers (I live in Greece). I hesitate buying internationally although I find amazing items and deals from trustworthy sellers, cause there is a high extra vat charge and longer shipping times.
A lot of luxury brands doesn’t even have authenticity cards . Also European brands are cheaper in Europe and price also depends on country . 🤷🏼♀️
My friend bought a Chanel trendy preown. She sent me a picture of the inside and it looked off. The serial number was all wrong. I just googled the serial number and it ended up as a known fake serial number. What these counterfeiters do is they use the same serial number on a lot of different fake bags. Luckily my friend was able to get her money back even though the seller refused to own up to the fact that she sold a fake bag.
Oh no the chanel quality has goooonee down it is better to buy 2009 and older bags. You should try the Amore vintage store in Japan thats where celebrities buy bags and it’s 100% legit! You can ask for pics or u can go there and see it yourself! Another is Daikokuya and Qoo (It is illegal to sell fake bags in Japan so they are very strict in authenticating and stuff)

I have also had bad experiences with VC. The first time they sold me a "Brand New" bag with a massive dent in it, the second time they sold me another "Brand New" Chanel wallet that was clearly used for a few years, and the third time I purchased a bag and they confused it with a return and gave me a refund. I never got the bag. Unfortunately, VC is unreliable.
What was the point in sending it back if you were just gonna take their word for it on the authentication of the bag when they likely knew it wasn’t authentic in the first place and the serial number wasn’t giving you any results

Thank you for the story. Just received my bag from vestia and it is fake. Obviously fake. Even the stitching are not aligned... Luckily my purchase is not that expensive as chanel bag, but still Im very upset. I just try to think about it that it is my lesson to learn -: never buy on vestiairecollective.
Of course, they can not double check items for customers.
The shipping costs for them would have been sky rocketing.

International expedited shippings are very expensive.
These big well known Japanese companies have high standards and they don’t sell fake bags.
I know a few Japanese stores, like Brand Off, have branches in Hong Kong.
Returns going to Hong Kong may still be import tax free at this time. I believe that’s the reason they wanted you to ship back to Hong Kong.
The websites that post serial numbers are not official. We can only take them as a reference that’s all.
Also, the quality of the bag can easily tell you if the bag is real.
Vintage bags are much easier to authenticate by yourself than the new Chanel bags.

I just purchased a max mara Teddy coat from V. and it was a ABSOLUTE FAKE !!! Their “authenticity/check tag” wasn’t even filled out by the company. I contacted and the sent me a return label fingers crossed they treat me right I’m waiting for delivery back to them for my 2,000.00 usd !!!! 😞

Ive bought from VC .no issues but i know others that have . Im more shocked that a bag from japan / hong kong would be fake as such strict laws in those countries regarding selling fakes . Authenticate 4 u are recognised by pay pal and are fantastic to authenticate any bag . As for serial numbers, these can be copied and put on a fake bag so typing this into a site wouldn't be something id take as gospel .
Japan has very strict laws, upto being banned for life. Hong Kong is very loose with theirs. There are tons of knock offs in Hong Kong.
If it came from Japan I wouldn’t worry about it. They have a strict law about replicas. Also yes there are fake vintage bags. Fakes have been around for a long time. So people that think fake vintage bags don’t exist aren’t correct. They also make new fake vintage bags. They just look new instead of used. So if it’s too new for the age of the bag IE: if the bag is from the 90s but it’s in new condition, that’s a red flag.

Didn't you send it back because it was basically fake? I wouldn't be upset that they gave you a refund straight away. Them giving you an instant refund and not letting you have the bag back is an indication that they probably knew it was fake...they were just trying to not ruin their rep.

Chanel boutique wont authenticate bag for you or anyone.
If the seller is from japan you could report the seller to the Japanese authority cause its illegal(consider as criminal charge)to sell fakes or replicas in japan🤔.
Next time I recommend getting it authenticated by professional authenticator. It is like grading your own homework.
Well please be careful with The Realreal. I bought a pair of Chanel shoes and they were fake. They were several sizes too small even though the size on the shoes were my size. If they fit I may have never known they were fake. The Realreal did allow me to return them. Be careful buying from any resale store. I do understand that to err is human and am not upset about it since they did allow me to return them. I just no longer just accept that I'm receiving an authentic item because they promote their authentication process. I have my items authenticated
