And written on the Boss's gravestone at Grytviken: “I hold…that a man should strive to the uttermost for his life's set prize”. If you should perchance visit South Georgia, there are often elephant seals lying around in social groups close to his grave. It's a beautiful and remote spot.
In school, it used to be all the boys had to read "Endurance", now ALL students, read that book. Being a leader isn't about power, it's about being strong enough emotionally to take on the burden of taking care of others. To take on responsibility willingly and not blame others!
An amazing man. The restoration of the film is superb. More every day we find an can restore early film. Sadly so much is lost forever due to nitrate film.
Scott did the same. Shackleton didn't lose a man. Scott lost four including himself. I know who is the greater hero. By the way, Shackleton's first voyage came within four days march of the pole, but turned back because, had he reached the pole he would not have had sufficient supplies left to reach his first supply dump. Scott on the other hand did reach the pole and could not reach his first supply dump and died along with hi three companions

So a posh toff took a boat to the pole got stuck endangered the whole crew failed the mission and is a hero sounds incompetent to me
