I saw this close to 20 years ago and jumped out of my seat cheering after this. These are some of the most artistic lines I’ve ever heard. Nuff respect to you Kayo🙏🏽🙏🏽
Hands down baad . . . loved this since I used to have cable. Reminds me of slight nudge of george ella lyons' "Where I Am From," but is rolling in the depth of epic expression of individuality exalting in abstract of self that brings to mind "Poem of Walt Whitman an American"-later retitled-"Song of Myself." Bravo, KAYO . . . Bravo.
I can NEVER remember his name but can ALWAYS remember his dopest line from this piece. "If anyone comes through that door and ask for my description, tell them I'm a dark skinned black king that walks like an Egyptian"
my 4 year old said the most amazing thing about this poet just now... she said "mommy he sounds like a lion!"" :-) and u know what... lol... he kinda does... yea my baby girl is on the same path of her mommy... she is a poet from birth!
@NaxNax96 - i just showed her the video again and just said "sweetie what do you think of this poem?" and she said "he looks a lion." so i guess that might give us the answer... she said he sounded like one last time and this time she said he looks like one :-) u gotta admit he is regal in appearance and voice. :-) and his words are a king's declaration.
@IamAiramI I wonder if your daughter meant that he looks like a lion or maybe that he sounds like James Earl Jones in Lion King (Mufasa)? He definitely looks like a lion to me :p
@blackice445 Most Egyptians are dark-skinned. So I'm guessing he's talking about black skin stereotyping, not just Black people. And Egyptians walked proudly..
Um...this brother is talking about his being a Black Man. What the hell does Jesus have to do with playing skelly or hop-scotch, or becoming a man by holding his crotch?
I've been listening to this occasionally since I was a kid and it still gives me life to hear this poetry.
Same here man💯
So many years later and this is still just as profound and delightful...thank you google search
