watched two LeagleEagle videos before this. Thought I was having a stroke when he popped up here.
Same
He is recurring charactre in this season of "PHW Cinematic Adventures".
Lol
Right? I thought I was trippin' when LE came through. Lmao
I was hoping I was.
I'm actually extremely charmed by this fictional character of Patrick Willems and his chaotic downward spiral into madness
"fictional".
It seems more like super sanity like the joker or Deadpool. They're all aware that they're fictional characters. This is why they're all unconcerned with the consequences of their actions. They know their actions and consequences are determined by the writer and have noting to do with their illusory "choices."
@@benjaminewing8322 Ever since when was it a characteristic of the Joker to be aware of his state as a fictional character?
@@KasCalwein unlike Deadpool, the Joker doesn't acknowledge the fact that his world is a work of fiction. Instead, the Joker treats himself like a work of fiction and speaks of the world as though nothing matters (because it doesn't).
Grant Morrison explored this in the 1989 graphic novel Arkham Asylum: A Series House on Serious Earth that the Joker suffers from super-sanity: "a brilliant new modification of human perception...the Joker seems to have no control over sensory information he's receiving from the outside world... That's why some days he's a mischievous clown, others a psychopathic killer. He has no real personality. He creates himself each day."
screenrant.com/joker-superpowers-abilities-dc-comics-batman-villain/
Hahaha “fictional”...right...
The realistic courtroom art had me rolling.
I was hoping Charl would be his legal representation.
That was a nice touch
My favorite detail is his dad appearing to be asleep during the trial.
"His parents were embarrassed, and somewhat relieved" XD love it. Some well-organized production seeding that one in
Looks like professional court room illustration to me. If so that's even better. 😆
Lol! The legal eagle cameo was freaking brilliant!
I actually thought I might have clicked on the wrong video for a split second.
I thought this was a real trail
i love that devin from legal eagle is so down for these collabs
His appearance in Linsey Ellis’ omegaverse video had me crying 😂😂
@@dt5092 I love that he's clearly having a ball with these; as much as his actual output can get Really Serious, he's got a geek's heart and is an awesome storyteller to boot!
I have literally never cared about The OC and didn't know a single thing about it but I just watched this whole thing. You're good at this.
Same here. Even as I was watching I was like "this show sounds stupid. I would never watch this." And yet I continued to watch the video just because of Patrick's sheer enthusiasm and the amusing idea that he was saying everything while trapped in federal prison.
Girl same
Ditto, but I stayed for the mmm whatcha say
You should go back and watch it. It's an amazing show. The mix of humor and drama was revolutinary, and even when they played with tropes like bringing in the young cousin, it by works.
@@galactic85 I mean the show is great. It’s so self aware and meta. A perfect balance of drama and humour and isn’t afraid to go dark when it needs to.
I never thought a video essay about the O.C. would have such a high level of production value, but if anyone’s gonna exceed expectations it’s Patrick.
I just can't grasp that the "whatcha say"-meme comes from an actual show, wow
🔫 whatcha say!!
I watched the OC at the time, once knew it was from there, and had forgotten
Same I had no idea!
ua-cam.com/video/vmd1qMN5Yo0/v-deo.html&feature=emb_logo
didn't know about the 'bu
Same reaction I get from every boyfriend who I force to watch the show
This is by far one of the most creative UA-cam experience I’ve had been exposed to, and MAN that’s refreshing!
Sincerely hope 2021 UA-cam shines more like it does here!
It’s incredible seeing Hank and realizing exactly where Patrick gets all his enthusiasm and communication compulsion from.
This video was GREAT and I'm so happy there's finally some online discussion of The OC going on in the 2020s.
That being said, Death Cab's "Title and Registration" was completely ROBBED in that top 5 music moments list.
100% agreed - it's about time! The O.C. was my No. 1 like guilty pleasure watch in the early 2000s. I had the DVDs and particularly the first two seasons, I must have seen at least 5 times 😂 Seth was a great self-insert at the time, up there with Ultimate Spidey's Peter 🤓
I hate to be basic, but Hallelujah should’ve been number one... or The Killers’ performance of Mr. Brightside (again- I’m basic).
Should’ve had South-Paint The Silence and Patrick Park-Life Is A Song
The music moments list was the hardest part of the entire video. I excluded most live performances since they usually weren't really part of the story (Rooney almost made it just for the Luke singing moment)
@@patrickhwillems You nailed this down to a T though. It’s like we’re the same person. Haha. The 4th season is so bizarre yet so good
Patrick, you're actually convincing me, a 21 year old, living in 2021, to start "The O.C.". This is some super power-level stuff.
He’s Omega Class Persuasive
🪬👃🏽🪬
The oc is the best show you’ll watch. Do it
How did you like it?
@Unrealisednostalgia I loved it! I rewatched it twice, and at the end, I always got sad because I felt as if I was saying goodbye to a group of friends (even tho I find the ending itself to be fantastic).
It's an amazing show!
"Dad, I'm the monster" i want that on a tv shirt
A TV SHIRT? DOES IT PLAY TV ON YOUR SHIRT WHEREVER YOU GO? I WANT ONE
@@comedicpsychnerd Unfortunately tv shirts only come in four sizes, "Tinky Winky", "Dipsy", "Laa-Laa" and "Po".
@@euansmith3699 crap, I really wanted one, but I don’t fit any of this sizes
I LITERALLY screamed when I saw this pop-up on my phone, called my mom and was like "MOM, PATRICK WILLEMS MADE A VIDEO ON THE O.C." God bless you sir, have fun in prison
I watched this as a teen, I enjoyed it (being aware of how forced the drama is) and loved the meta jokes like "Last year was better" Seth, Season 2.
Then I realized the O.C is essentially a white drama version of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Both about a trouble kid who moves in with a rich family and discovers how delusional the elite is. Will = Ryan, Carlton = Seth, Hilary = Summer, Aunt Vivian = Kirsten, Ashley = Kaitlin and last but not least, Uncle Phil = Sandy, and both happen to be lawyers.
The most meta channel on UA-cam wins again.
Paddy, you're a strange man.
He's a genius....a genius i said hahahaha
I just finished Broey Deshanel's Gossip Girl retrospective to see Patrick breaking down the OC. The UA-cam algorithm is truly blessing me with Josh Schwartz content.
YES!!!
@@freegadflyathome this
Same!!!
YESS SAME!!!
The OC somehow gets completely forgotten but god damn was it amazing.
I completely missed the OC hype.
I had no idea up until now that the SNL skit was based on anything, I thought the absurdity was the joke... 😶
Me too lol
just over 6 min in and the Edge of tomorrow gunshot-whatcha say joke was great.
I just discovered your channel, and as a true OC fan, I can’t express how happy I am to discover the art that is this video
Patrick: "Welcome to the OC Bitch!"
Patrick's Mom: "Patrick!"
Patrick: "Sorry, Mom"
Ok, the "mmmmwhatchasayyy" for edge of tomorrow was unexpectedly hilarious.
Wow can't wait to explain to my friends why I'm watching The OC. Thanks Pat - y'know people used to think I had taste.
Patrick, as someone who played lacrosse from grade school through high school
PLEASE
PLEASE GIVE US A FULL LACROSSE VIDEO WITH HANK
Holy shit, I just realized why at 13 I stopped listening to trash and got into indie rock. It’s like I just watched my own origin story
Right??? I was just a bit too young for the OC, but I reaped the rewards of its popularity through the music it featured, and I didn't even know it until now. This show indirectly set my musical taste for a good decade after it aired. Holy hell.
My father was just into indie rock before I was born, thus I grew up with it, I have never listened to trash willingly, which is quite nice, though I did fall more to punk around 10-13 and it's what I listen to mainly
The OC is Jim Gordon’s childhood story
You can’t tell me otherwise
I had that thought as well when Gotham first started. It explains why Gordon is just as punchy.
Also Sandy Cohen ended up in politics and became Senator Bernie Sanders.
That's cool
You dont have an Irish Mammy, if she doesn't send you some Barry's Tea when you get sent to prison!
your dad’s take on “is this an AD” sent me and i choose to believe he nailed it in one
Patrick's dad has a real Ray Romano energy while he's talking about lacrosse.
As a man who watched the OC in my early 30s, I have never felt as validated.
I’m 32, and I’m gearing up to do another rewatch. Real recognizes real.
@@valiantshadow89 BTW, Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke are doing a rewatch-style video podcast here on youtube, their channel is "Welcome to the OC, Bitches!" ua-cam.com/channels/neKGz8h_7emqH58fpSBJ1Q.html
The basic teenage girl in me really needs your take on Gossip Girl.
The UA-camr Billiam has a really good one that's an hour long although he goes so fast and the later seasons are so exhausting that I still lose track of what's going on around the season 2 mark.
@@tatehildyard5332 Had no idea this channel existed, hard to keep up with all the cinema and TV related content on yt haha
Thank you for the recommendation, will defintely check it out! 😊
Josh Schwartz's shows (Chuck, The OC, Gossip Girl) always had great soundtracks. Seriously, he's probably the reason why I judge TV shows and their soundtracks.
just realized I owe a couple highschool girlfriends to seth cohen making me look cooler than I actually was lmfao
same
I always find it funny how wildly different peoples experiences in a certain subgroup are.
Patrick mentioned that Popstar: Never Stop, Never Stopping is a masterpiece, and now I need that as a video
Damn, that Edge of Tomorrow - watcha say bit was PERFECT
Season 4 was like the best turnaround for any show, they finally figured out what made it work....and then it got cancelled :(
Equally discovering what didn’t make it work - the Marissaphant in the room
Better for it to end well than run too long. I'm perfectly fine with how it ended.
That’s equivalent of Game Of Thrones going back to what made it work after blowing it all up in Season 8 (Season 3 in OC’s case) 😂 it just wasn’t the same anymore.
S4 was my second favorite season after the first one, even tho Taylor was annoying and bitchy when she was introduced in S3, in S4 she really turned around and actually became one of my favorites and had a really good arc. Plus I feel her and Ryan had much better chemistry than Ryan and Marissa (besides the 1st season).
Show Writers completely ruined Marissa and Ryan's relationship post season 1. It was just on another level on season 1. One of the many reasons why Season 1 is on its own tier. @@toreadoress
This Is the Best fucking intro that Patrick has ever Made. Congratulations my Man!
Patrick’s Dad explaining lacrosse is truly captivating
"And don't even get me started on Gossip Girl..."
Patrick, please. Please DO get started on Gossip Girl.
Thanks for this Patrick. The OC was such an important show to me and the fact you love it too made me realize that I made the right choice subscribing to you all those years ago.
The courtroom sketches are FANTASTIC. I love your attention to detail.
2020: The Charl Saga
2021: The Patrick in Jail Saga
"Patrick (H) Willems and the Shawshank Redemption"; in which a captive media critic uses an earpiece radio to help the Cruel Prison Governor to carve a swath through the Intra-Penitentiary Movie Trivia Championship. In a twist ending, Willems escapes from the prison during the nationally televised finals, leaving the Governor to crash and burn in spectacular fashion.
'I can hit people with my weapon in Lacrosse, best game ever.' - Patrick's dad
This makes me so happy! I loved the OC, especially the 4th season.
This. Was. Brilliant!!! Grew up watching and obsessing about the OC (I was prime demographic at the time-- a teenage girl from so cal!!!) Glad to have your excellent and brilliant analysis . It is one of the best teen dramas of all time. Your countdown of the songs is similar to mine except DICE was number one on my list!!!! The show is a worthy rewatch.
Bravo my guy!!!!
Oh god the outtakes with your parents are so wholesome, they are adorable.
So that’s where the SNL sketch came from. Still holds up.
Also, only remember this show existed because Adam Brody is so charming in “Jennifer’s Body” and “Ready or Not”, and I had to check out his body of work. Was a Gossip Girl person myself; similar problems but wardrobe was more standout than music imo
Alright, the Mom looks like my grandmother and the "Oh no...." was what peeps would say to me as a teen. Thanks for the rep!
The OC walked so Riverdale could run.
Also, had to say that the scene where Seth recreates the spider-kiss was responsible for Champagne Supernova never leaving any ipod I had in life.
The O.C is one of the TV show you will remember after years and years ❤
"I'm the monster, you're not me!" literally every parents blooper elongates my life by several years
I avoided this show since it first dropped but along comes Patrick Hollywood Willems convincing me to binge it.
Thank you Patrick, Thank you. Me and my wife spent a few months of our quarantine rewatching this as comfort food to forget about the problems of the world. We watched this video together and were dying laughing at your analysis! We’re so glad you appreciate this early 2000’s masterpiece as much as we do!
A friend tried to talk me into watching this show repeatedly in the 2000s and I didn't listen for I was born a FOOL
“The best dad in the history of TV?!?!”. Not in a universe where Keith Mars exists he isn’t . You even played the Veronica Mars theme song!
I actually thought that myself. Still, it'd be a close match...
Jinbei is better dad because he is fish dad.
What about Hal from Malcom in the Middle?
Or Phil Dunphy!
Hmm, Keith Mars gave up on trying to force his daughter to stay out of danger and simply started using her as cheap labor... 😂
Patrick deserves so many more subscribers. His channel is criminally underrated.
Please, I need to hear patrick talk about gossip girl lmao
And Buffy/Angel/Firefly
And Gilmore girls
yes please
Yessssssss
Destroy Chuck Bass pls
Thanks for the suggestion Patrick, just finished watching the whole series to come back and watch this video. Really loved this series, very enjoyable to watch. Please suggest anything else like this which is pleasing to watch.
This is literally the best thing I've watched in weeks.
I watched through the whole series during lockdown because of your tweet thread and I just have to say thank you
Watching O.C. clip: "Is that Logan Marshall-Green?"
Searches imdb: "Huh, I guess it WAS Logan Marshall-Green."
Yeah he's a beast. Good in upgrade
What We Do in the Shadows??? Great idea for a video!!!
I could watch a whole hour of just your dad ranting about things he's passionate about.
I've never heard of this series before. I stopped this video after 5 mins and started watching the series. It was leaving Netflix by the end of December so i had to finish it all in 2 months
"best dad in television history"
I'm sorry, I think you mean Captain Benjamin Lafayette Sisko.
Willing to take on a Pa'Wraith to save Jake? Agreed.
100% Sisko is the best dad.
HEY! Didnt expect to encounter a fellow ds9 fan in the comments section. You are correct, sisko is 100% the best dad. (The second best dad is Rom.)
That is one epic monologue about lacrosse!
I think legal eagle is a perfect exposition giver for your videos from now on
Thank you for this insight on the OC; now I can give my friends a highbrow explanation why I love this show
The O.C. was 18 years ago?! AHHHHH my life is ending one minute at a time
7:43 yup, I really enjoyed this character. She is such a train wreck and it’s honestly satisfying to see things blow up in her face and her getting her life together and being happy.
I love the alternate timelines of the regular videos vs Patrick Explains. And how Patrick is somewhat evil (in very different ways) in both of them.
Great stuff, an OC video has been a long time coming 👏
You're totally right. In this series he's Logan paul style evil. A douche bag obsessed with fame and success who believes the rules dont apply to him because he has money.
In the main series of videos he's more....'autuer' style evil (for lack of a better term). He's obsessed with making his channel successful but it all has to conform to his unique artistic vision and sensibility. He's more interested in justifying his supposed genius by obtaining success and is monomaniacal in his pursuit of it.
As a devoted Degrassi stan who has a copy of the first season of the OC but still hasn't gotten around to watching it yet... you've convinced me, this looks fucking awesome.
s1 best ever, after is meh but season 1 is amazing pure gold
Seasons 1 and 4 are perfect, season 2 is great, season 3 is cheesy fun
@@TheUltraYusuf 2 ok, 3 meh, 4 sure but 1, s1 is godlike
YES THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED NOW! SO EXCITED FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
This video got me interested in The OC and I finally got around to watching all the episodes. It was definitely worth it. But ti think the best musical moment was in the pilot episode when Ryan is in Sandy’s car and the theme song starts playing as they drive in to Newport. It just hits so hard
My boyfriend heard the 'hammers' and replaced lacrosse with croquet all the way up until midway through the last blooper. He was watching your dad describe a world where croquet is as violent as hockey and just didn't question it until finally the word 'lacrosse' got through.
The champagne supernova kiss on the rain reminds me of my youth where I was super optimistic and everything was possible!
Thanks for this hit of nostalgia! Alex's butterfly tattoo has lived in my mind rent free since 2004
That lacrosse rant is just 10/10! Brought me back to my high school days in a good way!
OH MY GOD I LOVE THE OC SO FREAKING MUCH THIS VIDEO IS SO GREAT!!!!!!!!
In 2004 I was struggling in school, depressed as can be, not fitting in, just a mess. (I'm on the spectrum but was undiagnosed until many years later). I eventually dropped out, and one of my very first coping mechanisms with my strange life situation was by watching The O.C. religiously. I don't watch drama shows, I don't watch teen shows, but something about The O.C. really spoke to me, namely everything you're mentioning in this video.
Bro, I've always said "Rainy Day Women" was either the best or 2nd best episode of The OC too. Nice to see my opinion vindicated here.
A lot of why you love the OC is why I love Chuck, which makes sense since they were both created by Josh Schwartz and produced by McG. Totally gonna watch this show now!
Barry’s Tea. Let’s gooooo
As someone who is under 25, I just want to say that I did not know anything about The OC, not even that SNL skit, before this video. So really this whole video felt like a crazy man's ravings about something I know nothing about.
I'm not used to the opening not beginning with: "This is Charl." "Charl?"
It's like "Charles", but singular.
So you mentioned Freaks and Geeks, and you made a passing reference to Buffy the Vampire Slayer...how about videos about both of those?
Concerning BTVS & Angel, I get the impression, it had a comeback these last years, so I'm not sure that is still so underrated anymore
The channel Passion of the Nerd does a great job analyzing each episode
This is my favourite new channel that I’ve discovered. You cover topics like this seriously and dive in with great analysis. Can’t wait to binge the rest of the channel.
Just felt I should say, thanks Patrick because this video inspired me to start watching The O.C. and now I'm almost through the first season and Seth Cohen is one of my new favorite fictional characters ever!
Also, Ben McKenzie doesn't look a day under 25 in this show and it gives me endless amusement that he's playing a high schooler
I watched the oc as a teenager and I actually stopped when marissa died, I will revisit this now as an adult who love film, thanks for reminding me of a TV series that I used to love.
The Fast & Furous 6 cast photo on the wall and the Paddington doll were a nice touch 😁
It was amazing to relive just how big the OC was. I was in Junior High at the time when it premiered and just remember the buzz dropping more and more every season but I’m exited to rewatch it. Excited to see what you have in store for the year.
1. Nice. I was so confused at first...Like did I miss an episode?!
2. Pleeeeassse show your dad rambling at the end in as many episodes as possible from now on!!!
3. Pleeeeaase do Gossip Girl 😂
good, I'm not the only one who had to click on the channel to check what I missed
Summer was waaayyy more than "Ew" her progression from spoiled rich girl to literal activist college student? CINEMAAAA
Season 1 Episode 27!
Can you imagine an hour long drama having 27 episodes now?
I’ve had a crush on Adam Brody ever since I saw Ready Or Not and recently I’ve been going back and forth about whether I should start watching the OC. This video has finally convinced me to get started.
wait, do patrick's parents have a history in acting? they're doing a pretty good job
They have a good director
I was worried I was never gonna see more lacrosse talk, but then the credits started 🙏🙏
this is quite possibly the greatest video on the platform
Season 4 was actually great and I’m glad you see it that way. Btw I laughed with “She says ‘uh’ a lot” when you were describing Summer.
