Please get male nurses, scrub techs and cnas for men if they are exposed in any way. For all patients please get the undergarments that cover our intimate areas if they want them. Also, allow our spouse or significant other to be with us for pre op and recovery.
Absolutely! Male patients should have the choice of having male nurses, especially in the recovery room as they come out of anaesthesia. My number one complaint regarding a recent surgery was the recovery room experience: my gown kept coming loose, three or four female nurses were attempting to put me in a recliner-type chair, take my blood pressure, hand me liquids to drink (which I did not want), etc. I couldn't move one hand because it still was connected to the IV. I tried to use my good hand to keep my gown in place. My request to have IV removed went unheard. I kept getting more and more angry. One nurse casually mentioned, "Sir, your blood pressure seems high." None of them had a clue as to why I was finding all this unacceptable. Male nurses would have helped lower the stress level.
