@Blue Pulse Gaming honestly, I think this one's worse.... somehow. With those disgustingly large eyes pointing in different directions, the smoke coming out of his ears, the way he touches his junk when he sings to her- a very clearly young child- and lest we forget: > the LITERAL TONGUE PANTING IN AND OUT OF IT'S MOUTH, wtf.
Keep in mind, 'Into the Woods' is based on the Grimm Brothers fairy tales, so, the Wolf's face and its facial features being as creepy as it is in this production is perfect!
I remember reading once that Sondheim had wished the London production had been filmed, so I am so thankful that these clips have been posted. I really like this interpretation. I feel that the direction and design really allows the audience to view the material from a psychological perspective. The stories are generally of European origin and the production seems to embrace that history and turn it into an advantage.
interesting approach to the wolf. The mask is pretty well done and I like how it expresses emotion and such. I also like the actor's growl in his voice and I have to give my props to anyone who can not only WEAR that mask, but be able to jump around and sing in it so effortlessly. In the long run though, I prefer the broadway version
I think that with the acting, singing, and the animatronic head, that's probably the best wolf I've ever seen. It's a shame that there's only two other clips posted.
I find this scene superior to the OBC version. I like how this wolf's more of a....trickster where the Bway wolf was almost a pervert. But it depends on interpretation. Apparently Sondheim liked that the OBC wolf played up the whole "loss of sexual innocence" of Little Red.
the wolf is amazing! actualy terrifying! works so well with the song, the obvious danger being hidden by the carisma and the tux! i actualy belive he would eat the little girl. whereas on the broadway one i just thought he would take her out for a drink! lol
I really like the Wolf! The tuxedo gives him a very neat air, and the headgear is made of awesome. I love how he pants near the end! I don't really like this Little Red Riding Hood though. I don't mind the accent, but her voice is very... screechy, I guess? Or really high-pitched.
I get to play the wolf, and we're making him look like the original wolf, but the leather jacket is a biker jacket with studds on it, and random animal pelts, and a lot of other biker/gothic accessories, so I'm very excited to portray this sort of wolf and it's a very fun party to play.
Idk why, but the way he sings this is so amazing, its my favorite out of all the different versions. NSNDN JUST THE WAY HE SINGS IT IS AMAZING, ITS SO CONVINCING
I don't know if it's cultural differences maybe in NY at the time the sexual undertones could be a bit more blatant and it was more acceptable such as with the penis and in London it was different or they wanted to capitalise on the creepier aspects of the story. I mean the wolf in the OBC costume wise looks more like a "bad boy" biker type with the shirt open and wolf penis here the wolf looks like a gentleman. It means the sexual undertone sort of go amiss which is a shame as that aspect of this song adds to the maturity and complexity of the piece. Also and I guess credit to the actor for this, his portrayal such voice and his hand movments and makes him sound and look so much older than Red that he really comes across as a creepy old man/wolf pedophile. It's a little disconcerting to watch. Especially that "goodbye..little girl" at the end. Really creepy.
The panting in time with the music at the end is inspired. Also, do wonder re: sexual undertones, or lack thereof - maybe this performance was watered down slightly owing to it being on a pre watershed tv show? Will echo Sondheim in wishing that the original London show had been filmed.
For one, ever since I saw a high school production of the play that I enjoyed very much, I have been listening to the london cast recording, so I am more used to the London voices. Second, I saw the clip of the American version on youtube, and to me, the wolf did not seem as sophisticated as this one, which made me love this wolf in the first place.
I disagree, Little Res Riding Home is THE BEST actress in the whole play, seeing as Little Red Riding Hood is not in the musical. But if you're talking about Little Red Riding Hood, she is a little...old.
how to make the facial features move? its probably a device in his gloves that he is controlling with his hands or in the mask when he movies his face...u know what to be honest the more i look at it, it seems to look machanical. maybe robotic or something. but its really amazing
as far as I know, these three videos are the only ones that were shown on the paul wogan show. Although I would love to see a video of this cast doing the whole show, specifically anything that had Julia Mckenzie as the witch. deffo for 'Our Little World'
i pla the wolf in the junior version, and i think this mask is next generation! Its so cool! And the wolf did'nt seem the freaky, but now i know he is!
Man. Red sure is a SPAZ in this version. The wolf looks a bit more of a PERV too... Both are acting the HELL outta this scene too. On the plus side they gave the wolf a helmet with a bunch of articulation. Makes him look more like a muppet though. Don't know if that's good or bad. Muppets creep me out. What was I talking about? This isn't SWEENY TODD!!!
I think I like this wolf costume better than the Broadway one. Not because of the penis, I actually thought that was a nice sinister touch...but because...O.O the wolf looks like a perfect gentleman, does he not? "And though scary is exciting, nice is different than good."
PVCC? Arizona? They made us look at the Nerms random walking during the most personal song in the show, No One Is Alone. I must admit I liked the idea, but the execution did not deliver what was promised in the director's notes. There was one time, the Nerms actually contributed to the plot. Milky White's death. It was also my favorite part of the Nerms. If they were included in the plot more, and there were many ways I thought up thinking about it later, the Nerms could have been awesome.
Well, I have just been blessed with nightmares for a week.
+Ail Ang sameXD
This is the most intense wolf ive seen in a musical ....holy shit !
I know right... That thing creeps me out
You should see the obc wolf
@Blue Pulse Gaming but those were the best parts
@Blue Pulse Gaming honestly, I think this one's worse.... somehow.

@@JustTheWarning I see the themes of this musical have not escaped your keen powers of observation.
Im impressed that this wolf's head looks reall really good. The animatronics on the ears, tongue, eyes, and mouth. I wish other productions had this.
DAMN the wolf has one of the greatest costumes I’ve seen in a musical, well done!!!
I really really agree.
Keep in mind, 'Into the Woods' is based on the Grimm Brothers fairy tales, so, the Wolf's face and its facial features being as creepy as it is in this production is perfect!
Holy shit the wolf costume is epic
The first wolf I've seen that'S actually as frightning as the original. Congratulations.
I remember reading once that Sondheim had wished the London production had been filmed, so I am so thankful that these clips have been posted.

Smoke actually came out of the Wolf's ears... roflmao. So ridiculous! I love it.
I think that with the acting, singing, and the animatronic head, that's probably the best wolf I've ever seen. It's a shame that there's only two other clips posted.
The wolf is awesome! Wish they would combine both costumes it would be intense! I prefer a younger red though.
johnnnnny deep and Jessica
i like how the ears moved lol.
OMG!! I played the wolf in 1994 production in Jonesboro, AR. My custome was a pink and purple zoot suit...it was great!...ah the memories
That is the coolest wolf costume I’ve ever seen
This version of the play is very surreal and British...but I like it. It's different but it's good too.
THAT MASK IS AMAZING!
I find this scene superior to the OBC version. I like how this wolf's more of a....trickster where the Bway wolf was almost a pervert. But it depends on interpretation. Apparently Sondheim liked that the OBC wolf played up the whole "loss of sexual innocence" of Little Red.
Haven't seen this clip in years. I saw this production with Clive Carter and Julia McKenzie. It was fantastic. Thanks for posting :)
that wolf scares me more then the one with the huge junk, and thats a lot -_-
That is an AMAZING mask! Very reminiscent of the Red Death mask in Phantom.
Thanks for posting this! I've never seen this broadcast before.
the wolf is amazing! actualy terrifying! works so well with the song, the obvious danger being hidden by the carisma and the tux! i actualy belive he would eat the little girl. whereas on the broadway one i just thought he would take her out for a drink! lol
Did anyone else notice what Red Ridinghood did to the butterfly?..... 0_0
Yes
R S What did she do
Oh... Did she tear it apart
I really like the Wolf! The tuxedo gives him a very neat air, and the headgear is made of awesome. I love how he pants near the end!

That was awesome. Love the wolf mask.
It is beautifully musically!
this is nightmare fuel. love it.
Great to see this cast again!
Did anyone notice what he did to her skirt?.... no? Just me then. 1:44
Blue oh wow-
Oh my😳
Um
I’m-
The fact that you can hear him so clearly through the mask is the what I’m most impressed by
Bravo!! Oh Steven your wonderful!!
I worked with Tessa in 1989 on tour in England. She´s a very talented lady and a very sweet person too.
I get to play the wolf, and we're making him look like the original wolf, but the leather jacket is a biker jacket with studds on it, and random animal pelts, and a lot of other biker/gothic accessories, so I'm very excited to portray this sort of wolf and it's a very fun party to play.
I Love the Steam out of the ears.
How do we get the entire movie? I'm dying to see - I grew up with this album of the London cast.
The eyes, the ears, the STEAM! Bwaha, I want that wolf head. XD
The mask IS cool. As an actor, I would hate wearing it because it doesn't allow you to use your face but as an audience member, it looks awesome.
Wow cool at 1:35 where he growls into the line. I like that idea... Awesome wolf headgear... very impressive.
No pelvic thrust? That's the best part of the song!
I love this song it's so catchy!!!
Idk why, but the way he sings this is so amazing, its my favorite out of all the different versions.
NSNDN JUST THE WAY HE SINGS IT IS AMAZING, ITS SO CONVINCING
First I have seen of this show. Awesome
possibly lol i have no idea how they do it. i was just guessing. i wish they put more clips up. i adore this show!!
"Baldrick? Who gave you permission to turn into an Alsatian?" XD
2:35 Whooooo!
this will always be better than any disney version
Even so Depp will outrank all the originals because of his fan base :/
P. Fox i hated the disney version tbh
sounds like it but im not saying i like it better im saying his fan base will
samantha rose same

Britain has and always have had much less censorship laws than the states has.
I don't think the sexual overtones are amiss. It takes on a much darker more predatory dynamic which psychologically and symbolically works.
I hate how she played this role. The entire personality of little red is naive and pushy. The wolf is supposed to annoy her NOT scare her
I agree completely.\
...and as Harry Potter was walking through the woods, he ran into Prof. Lupin who was in "his time of the month..."
The panting in time with the music at the end is inspired.
Also, do wonder re: sexual undertones, or lack thereof - maybe this performance was watered down slightly owing to it being on a pre watershed tv show?

wow, the wolf is freaking me out! but i love it:) little red riding hood reminds of moaning myrtle!
love it!
wow this was impressive!
Very cool mask.
Omg. That's an awesome yet scary wolf head.
the wolf was wonderful
I guess they didn't know Little Res Riding Home was suppost to be little. But hey a 30 year old woman will do too. There's obviously no difference.
I disagree, Little Res Riding Home is THE BEST actress in the whole play, seeing as Little Red Riding Hood is not in the musical. But if you're talking about Little Red Riding Hood, she is a little...old.
@@bingbingchickenwing1fan100 what? Who is little res riding home?
So anyone has any ideas how they pull off that wolf mask?
wtf steam/smoke came out of his ears!!!
Too freaky.
Just why?!?
Somehow, this has been the creepiest wolf I've seen so far. Awesome.
Wow, that wolf is really creepy!
Yeah, I had posted that after I finally figured where it was, thank you!!!
@MaskedLion No it's not. Mianing Murtle is the woman who plays Jude in Bridget Jones's Diary, and that's not this girl
GAH! That wolf's a NIGHTMARE! O_O All I can say is thank God someone perfected the Wolf in make-up form.
The Genius of Sondheim
how to make the facial features move? its probably a device in his gloves that he is controlling with his hands or in the mask when he movies his face...u know what to be honest the more i look at it, it seems to look machanical. maybe robotic or something. but its really amazing
wolf is brilliant
The Wolf is so awsome!
Attack of the mutant Halloween costume! Red is so British!
as far as I know, these three videos are the only ones that were shown on the paul wogan show. Although I would love to see a video of this cast doing the whole show, specifically anything that had Julia Mckenzie as the witch. deffo for 'Our Little World'

HAHAHAHAHAHAH, 1:56 she's pickin' a wedgie!
0:51 is such a good shot! it freaks me out!
I want to see the London Cast Witch. I heard it was Julia Mckenzie and she was amazing. i want to see or hear or something.
I wonder if the person who posted this has the rest of the show. I would really like to see the song "Moment In the Woods" from this cast.
OH FUCK NO THIS IS THE THING OF NIGHTMARES
Two Javerts played the Wolf
Philip quast and Clive Carter
Robert Westenberg and Gregg Edelman also played Javert. Westenberg was the original Wolf and Edelman played the Wolf in the 2002 revival
Man. Red sure is a SPAZ in this version. The wolf looks a bit more of a PERV too... Both are acting the HELL outta this scene too. The wolf looks like the Cryptkeeper with lycanthropy. O_o
I just barely noticed that she kills a butterfly. @1:05
Wow, you know what? It ACTUALLY does look like her now that you say that!
yeah, and it would actually kind of make sense because this is the london cast and obviously the harry potter movies have british actors
love the end its bouncey
Is anyone else curious as to why there is a door in the woods?
*A Door in the Woods* sounds like the title of an independent movie.
How is he controlling that mask?
There's probably something connecting his jaw to the masl
now that was just scary.
Two things, one, this is wildly disturbing, two, I never knew that Daniel Radcliffe played little red riding hood.
I hate her portrayal of little red, I'm sorry
Oh... so this is how the Sarah Palin wolf rumor started... I never knew she visited London though.
SHE IS TO OLD, AND SHE IS DRIVING ME CRAZY....loving the wolf though
My god. I hated everything about this red! I don't want to sound rude but it's my opinion.
Agreed
Yeah she’s annoying no offence lol
@lilrowyravenclaw i concur
When did he shoot steam outta his ears???
The only thing I like about this more is the wolf head.
I think I like this wolf costume better than the Broadway one. Not because of the penis, I actually thought that was a nice sinister touch...but because...O.O the wolf looks like a perfect gentleman, does he not? "And though scary is exciting, nice is different than good."
@oboepower I agree with you. This is Red Riding Hood is just too funny that I can't see in Act two, but she does sing well.

Dunno if I completely agree with you, but it's definitely a close race. That is one terrifying mask.
