I just wanted to tell you i really appreciate you for sharing such great information in all your videos ive seen hundreds of videos but yours by far has taught me more than any other... i think other people just want to further thier own agenda and plug sponsers. When you do whats right and im grateful thank you.
Thank you for your video! Love how you do it in your bathroom/home. I am a learning screen printer & would like to start my own business one day. It’s cool that you’re sharing your knowledge for others who are trying to learn👍🏼
thank you for watching! I'm currently working on a 10 video set on how to screen print for beginners I'm not sure when I'll post the videos but stay toon may in about a month I'll upload them.
Thanks so much for your video. So very helpful. I have had hard time cleaning my screens...especially now trying plastisol ink. I still don't know what is best to get that crud off my screen and squeegee. I use the press wash and it does not seem to help much, if at all. I use decreased (automotive), Dawn liquid and now I guess I will try the Xylene. I could not find any at Home Depot, so I bought some Klean Strip Painters Solvent instead. That mixed with Emulsion remover and some Gunk Degreaser and a power wash at my car wash made it absolutely clean!! Thank you so much for the tips!!
@@LibertyGraphicDesigns Really?? Okay. I will take your advice. One last question, please...when using Plastisol, I understand there is no flooding needed. Do you suggest squeeging forward only once or backwards only once? (Toward me or away from me on the screen)? I have shirt tacked down and try not to love my screen, but sometimes get that double image without lifting the screen. Single color white only.
@@gentlegnt that's a great question! that's called pulling and pushing, but let me answer the flooding first.... you are correct, plastisol does not require flooding only water base, and the reason for that is, well, plastisol won't dry on your screen as water base does. ok, so now, when it comes to pulling and pushing I my self like to "pull" you get better results but you will get tired faster LOL. Pull requires a lot less force to push the ink through the screen, however, your are more likely to mess up or shift the screen when pushing that's why you get that double image you're talking about, now, if you pull and then push on the same shirt/image/print, you will also create or get a double line or sort of a mirror effect, this happened because you shifted/distorted the screen even if your shirt is well tacked to the pallet. if you have more question feel free to ask!!. FYI I'm working on a video series that explains most of this issues. Thank you for your question it was very interesting.
I also use xylene been using it for years .. it works great .. I get a gallon jug at Ace hardware for about 20 dollars .. way cheaper then the screen opener spray cans. I use it to do color changes and as a screen opener .. . I put it in a spray bottle ..
it's the best thing I've used so far!! and yes you're right, it's cheaper then screen opener, I used to pay $48.00 for a box of 12 cans of opener and the xylene cost me $18.95
I want to add a little tip i just learned about you may already know about it .. but I love it .. To clean your press and get all that tac down over spray and lint off your press .. spay WD40 or something like it on your prass it takes all that sticky lint and gunk off very easy .. it cleans and makes everything shine like it's new again ..
Gracias hermano for the heads up on all the chemical you use. I'm just starting up so I really appreciate this video. One question I have, the inks you washed out were they water based inks? May I reach out to you if I have anymore questions?
When I used that stuff , it would leave a chemical residue that wouldn't let me apply any tape back on the screen...... Never used it again . Just saying what happened to me . I'm glad it works for you
@@Dtag1971 it was many years ago when franmar was staring . I bought a kit at the ISS show. I think it was on the press . I do remember saying to myself that I'd rather have stinky chemicals than chemicals that smell nice and don't work. I was young 😆
hey juan, hope you see this. yesterday i had begun reclaiming some screens and i took the ink and emulsion off and rinsed the screens, but i let them dry overnight because i was waiting for The Pink Stuff to be delivered so i could dehaze. today it showed up, and i tried wetting the screens and using The Pink Stuff to dehaze them but it did nothing. was it because i let the screens dry? i'd love any input you can offer me because i'm stuck. thanks again for the videos!
hey Marshal, if you let any emulsion dry on the screens it would be very hard to get it off, however, if you use hand cleaner and the pink stuff together and let sit for five to ten minutes then power wash (not rinse) the screens it will take most of the ghosting or stuff left on the screen. note that there might be some "ghosting" or imprint (sort of looks like a shadow" of the old image that does not affect the quality of the screen that's completely fine.
@@LibertyGraphicDesigns thanks so much for the reply, i'm thinking maybe the haze i was trying to remove was the ghosting you're talking about here because i was sure not to let the emulsion remover dry last night without power washing it all off, and i applied then power washed The Pink Stuff off twice for each screen i did today. for good measure i think i will order some hand cleaner as well. this was so helpful man, thank you!
@@jeffnationaltrade some will actually get holes or they will get very lose and won't hold registration or they just simply come off the frame when the glue does not hold them in place, they will also get what we call ghosting or haze, this is when the ink does not go through the screens anymore as easy as it should.
for removing ink, i use mineral spirits. i may be wrong, but i believe thats what most companies use but call it something else and mark up the price a lot.
Cool video thanks do you use a degreaser ??? Always nice to get information from people who are doing not just teaching.. lockdown UK learning all the time..
Liberty Graphic Designs oh, wow! Thank you. I have one more question. I burned my screen, and I was ready to print. When I tried to push the ink through the design, the ink did not go through. What happened? Please advise. I really want to learn how to screen print. Thank you.
your emulsion remover might be old or if you let the emulsion remover dry on the screens it will do that, try wetting the screen first then add the emulsion remover wait about 5 minutes and wash with a power washer at 1600 PSI or higher to remove the emulsion, if you can, get CCI GEM_ZYME emulsion remover this stuff works great. Get it GOGSG.com good luck
Keep in mind that screen cleaning supplies are created in the best interest of the screen material, using other things can damage the mesh, make it brittle , or make it harder for emulsion to adhere properly. Supplies are not too expensive. Also i've never seen ghost imagines cause problems with jobs, unless it's a very fine screen. With a normal 110 mesh it's almost impossible to see the ghost imagine in print. Be careful to not get any cleaning supplies on the frame/glued area, and haze remover should only be left on for 3-5 minutes or less.
the best material, the best final product, if you spend more money to use better equipment or supplies, then charge more money to the clients. but your opinion is valid too..
you are totally right, well i dont know where you are, but here in denver everything is expensive and the traffic is terrific that why i prefer buy all at the same place with delivery for my convenience, and just up my prices, at least here is how that works, but you are right about on your comment... thanks for let me think that way, i will try some of his Technics why not.. saludos @sexymeme

good info Juan, thanks for sharing, where do you order most of the chemicals from or store. i d agree a lot of the chemical made for screen printing don't work that good
Yeaaaa I might have ruined the tub here already. Not from the chemicals and ink and emulsion, (it was stained but that all came out) but the screens scratched the tub. Seems like a little 800-1000 grit sand paper will get them right out :)
Here's how i've always did it in my 30 + years of screen printing.....I use 100% mineral spirits (paint thinner) to clean the ink (plastisol) with Bounty paper towels. Nothing works as good as Bounty. Using xylene is unnecessary, harmful to mesh and unhealthy. And i clean screens as soon as i'm done with the job. Letting it stay in the screens is mostly what creates ghost images. Plus plastisol is oil based, so all plastisol should be removed before going to washout. I use any cheap reclaimer, they all pretty much work the same. And then i use the strongest haze remover i can find. Right now, that's Rino Clean imo. A good haze remover should make your eyes burn lol. I've been getting my cleaning supplies from Davis International for about 10 years now. Good quality at an affordable price. Haze removers require a hazardous tag and costs extra for shipping with everyone.
i buy ryone and don't like, i begin to use clorox " bleach" and live there for 15 minutes and surprise how clean the screen coming, don,t waste you money....
ur septic system and ur drain line is gonna be messed up man not being mean just honest ur gonna screw so much up and if ur on a city drain system they are probably gonna be furious ur dumping dangerous chemicals and gobbing there systems up i see no filtration system or room for one u should invest in one to catch the emulsion at the very least and hope ur drain field is very far away from ur well if ur in the country cause ur dumping in very toxic stuff man not the best for what ur doing but still very toxic u gotta be careful with that stuff man
