    My K70 (non-rbg) stopped working randomly earlier today. I didn't spill anything on it. Frustrated with the "just plug it in and hold escape" answers (spoiler: it didn't work), I ended up here.
    I simply took my board apart to inspect for damage, found none, reassembled it and it worked. Magical stuff. Thanks for the shortcuts with the screws.

      Yes, move all drinks out of "sweep range". Make it so you have to use your arm almost fully extended and lean over to reach your drink. That way, if you turn because something caught your attention like a over boiling saucepan etc, you don't sweep your desk surface and take your drink out with that action.

    Had my k70 for 2 weeks before I spilled coffee on it. Quickly unplugged it and dried it off the best I could but after plugging it back in, F7 would just flash, or sometimes not register at all. Took it apart and dried out the remaining liquid and it worked great. Thanks for pointing out the screw locations under the label and over by the volume dial, I probably would have just given up.

    Thanks for this vid, helped me fix mine after spilling a tiny bit of coke over the spacebar (the exact place they put a random unnecessary hole to the main board). Frustrating that you cant access the other side of the board without de-soldering so I just sprayed a good amount of compressed air throughout after getting it all apart.
    Seriously Corsair get rid of that stupid gap under the spacebar and spilled drinks wont be a problem in future!

    I had this problem on my K70 RGB. My keyboard was way out of warranty. I'd spilt coke on mine and the PCB was covered in dry coke. The keyboard kept randomly pressing alt and would do it more when the LEDs were on full brightness. I didn't have much hope for the keyboard but cleaning up the PCB and then the rest of the keys, it works good as new! Appreciate this video, very helpful.

    I learned a trick from Linus Tech Tips. I spilled part of a bowl of soup on mine. After I stripped all the keycaps off the keyboard I put the keyboard in the dishwasher key side down and put it through a pot scrubber load with no heat. After I got it out of the dishwasher I laid the keyboard key side down on a towel for 5 days. That's when no liquid came out of the keys when pressed. Put the keycaps back on and surprisingly enough the thing worked.

    Very nice video. One of the most popular keyboards on the market, and probably the best keyboard I've had. Unfortunately I spilt some Dr Pepper on the bottom left section today, making the alt spam by itself (making it completely unusable). I took it apart as shown in the video and was met by a considerable amount of ash and tobacco, near where I spilt the Dr Pepper was a lump of wet tobacco and other nasties. Cleaned the whole thing with just a standard wet wipe (advertised as suitable for electronics). I reassembled it after drying with a cloth and hair dryer and it worked first time perfectly, probably better than before. The removal of the logo and volume cap to access the screws is actually a lot easier than you'd think. Just make sure you find the rubber contact strip as mentioned and also a plastic strip which goes under where the num lock etc lights are. Lifesaver

    I'll probably figure it out before I get an answer but at 5:09 there is another small plastic piece, where does it go? I have the other piece that pushes the contact down but this other piece is plastic, not rubbery like the other, it has 3 prongs in it
    It doesn't seem to go in the same spot as the rubbery piece on the other side of the keyboard...
    Edit, yeah that piece goes in the holes for the 3 lights near the volume wheel...

    For anyone who doubts this method of cleaning, IT WORKS! I let my keyboard sit with def spilt liquid (alt, shift, escape were all spazzing out) for about a week. Its easier than it seems. I didn't disconnect the cables for the function board, just went over the board with a soft hog bristle brush (which I purchased for sneakers). Although it all depends on where you think the damage is at, because I looked over the board and it wasn't near the FUNCTION keys. If you think its near there, you should probably disassemble the top portion and clean it.
    Let it dry on it's own for 2-3 days, re-assembled, and everything is A-OK!!!
    Thank you to @arcadeuk for the video! By the way, if you have the older version that has the CORSAIR logo instead of the CORSAIR GAMING logo, there is STILL A SCREW underneath the film. Just take a hair dryer and hit it with heat for about 3-5 minutes, take an exacto knife, and when it gets warm, carefully peal it off so you don't fuck up the sticker. Thanks again for the great video arcadeuk!!!

    This helped me tons, I couldn't find that last pesky screw on the upper right corner by the volume controls. I ended up having to take mine apart a few times because I didn't test my keys (some needed extra attention), and I had forgotten to put the screws back in before the keys. I learned that, unless you need to clean under them all, you don't need to remove every key, just the ones that have screws under them. And you can see the screws with a flashlight.

    Great guide for a best practice, thorough repair, if you have the equipment to hand. If like me however you're not a hardware head and dont have access to special alcohol solution, or indeed even the tools needed to dismantle, you may find success with a more ghetto solution.
    I had one switch firing off erroneously, no lighting malfunction. It was sufficient for me to:
    - Unplug as soon as I noticed the spill caused an issue.
    - Remove the keycaps.
    - Dust with compressed air. (For cleaning mainly, probably didnt contribute to the fix)
    - Hold a hairdryer on low setting just over the affected key for a period of time. (On and off for about 15 mins)
    It may be wise to after attempting to dry for a period, open Windows' On Screen Keyboard. This way you can see immediately when plugging in if any keys are still firing incorrectly and unplug again quickly if so to avoid further damage.

    Quick tip for Corsair Keyboards: Don't just pull the caps off with your fingers. The plastic around their stems is super flimsy and while you can usually do that with good quality caps the newer corsair ones(2017+) will let you do that two or three times before starting to break.

    Nice work (not the spill, the cleaning up) =D That's a nice keyboard - I like the way you can change the colour of the keys there! It's annoying when they put screw points under labels and stuff.

    • @arcadeuk
      @arcadeuk  9 років тому +2

      +GadgetUK164 You can do all sorts of crazy animations with it, but to be honest it is best used for highlighting the action keys in certain games, the animations are just distracting. It's certainly built well, but not so much easy to maintain. That said if you needed to replace a key switch, it is certainly doable, just a pain to disassemble. Surely the screws could have gone on the back?

    Thanks for the brush idea, qtips were failing, yet partially fixed improper keystroke action, was getting surrounding keys being input along with whatever key I pressed. Took a toothbrush to all the PCBs on the K60, mainboard and the 2 or 3 other ones at the top. 90% isopropyl alcohol dissolved the issue like a champion! A quick test shows everything seems to be correct, going to get an o-ring set or two to quiet the thing down and it should be a dream until an rgb speed silver board. yeehaw.

    Thanks you saved my keyboard, similar thing spilt some stuff on the lower keys and lights went out on the arrow keys aside of the M key, then all went out and could not type. I managed to get it apart and my hidden screw was under a Corsair badge, which as mine brushed aluminum looks as though its polished but as you did warm mine with a hair dryer and got a very small flat headed screwdriver under it and peeled it back the badge.

    5:47. Where does that white plastic piece go. The one on the table. I’ve done the other white rubber one that’s for the connector

  • @Wuzzysbrand06
    @Wuzzysbrand06 9 років тому +1

    what is that plastic thing above the keyboard at 5:08? It is not the rubber thing he shows at 8:35 that holds the contacts. It's a different plastic piece that fell out of my keyboard and I have no idea where it came from. I spilled a drink on my keyboard and some keys weren't working, but the backlight was still working fine. I disassemlbed it and cleaned it and put it back together without the white plastic thing and the backlight isn't working anymore, but everything else does. Can someone help?

    • @Havok412
      @Havok412 8 років тому

      Did you ever find out where that plastic piece goes? Found the same part but my RBG still works fine without it but I am having problems with my control panel working even though that other rubber part is in its spot.

    • @Wuzzysbrand06
      @Wuzzysbrand06 8 років тому

      No I didn't, sorry. My backlight started working on it's own later. I guess it just wasn't completely dry. I assembled the keyboard without the part and everything is working fine now. The media keys too. I don't think the plastic thing makes a difference. You could try opening it up again and checking if everything is plugged in correctly or if you spilled something over that part it might need to dry more like my backlight.
      Good luck man and if you find out where that thing goes you can let me know :)

    • @Havok412
      @Havok412 8 років тому

      Yep found out it goes under the lights next to the windows lock key. Its just to make the 3 lights look brighter and not an essential part at all.

    Thanks for this video! Yesterday i spilled a whole glass of red wine over the keyboard and windows went bananas.
    With the help of your video I was able to disassemble the thing and clean it up as much as possible. As an added tip (you mentioned it briefly): use (lots of) isopropanol. I found out that wine got inside the cherry domes. I poured isopropanol over them until the stuff didn't get red from the wine anymore. Left it to dry and re-assembled. Seems to be fine now :)

      I spilled stuff onto my k70 multiples times and the keys got relatively sticky. Destilled water always worked for me. Leaving it in warm destilled water to desolve residue in the keys should also be a good solution. When you flush the keys with destilled water or isopropyl alcohol just repeatedly push the keys to get them clean, and give it enough time to dry out completely before you connect it again.

    I just recently as in 20 min ago, I spilled a good amount of water on my keyboard. I went to get some towels and paper because the water went everywhere, Its 00:00 here ATM, and I've got school tomorrow so cannot clean it now, I let all the water drip out and wrapped it in a towel. At first it worked with the water, then I told my mom and when I got back there was a delay on caps and sometime it didn't respond, the same as the volume scroll thingy, what should I do? Is it a stupid idea to just leave it drying?

    Tks for the enlightenment, but I have an alternative solution that worked for me...
    I took the keys out, but without screwing or open the keyboard, I upside down it, and used my mom's hairdryer.
    At first, I turn the heat on (taking care to not melt all the plastic), focusing especially in the areas who were wet and the little gap that exists because of the large keys.
    Finally, I used a normal fan on the floor, to blow my keyboard upside down for about 3 hours.
    In the end, all was responsive again, with no living keys, activating randomly.
    Hope this works for you too, cause open all this is a mess.

    This is great, but one quick question. There was another, harder plastic white strip above your keyboard while you were working on it. Have any idea where that goes, because it doesn’t fit in the opposite slot of the rubber white strip that you found on the floor. Thanks for this!

The WINDOWS key works again so I can copy/past on my Mac again. I had hit the LOCK button while drying it and didn't realize it. The space bar still feels sticky though.

    Thanks, fixed my k65 rgb compact using your clip. Of course (typically me) i had a spare part. It worked out to be the cover for the LED lights for CapsLock and the other light. I thought: wth not going to disassemble that whole stupid thing again just for a cover. Left it off and it works fine again. Energy drinks and keyboards do not go together. Now, the right light keeps blinking and my LED shiny things stopped working, that's something electronic, probably the flatcables that are effed while trying to put them back. sausage fingers and tiny, flexible, fragile, little, pesky cables do not work together either. The rest works fine, so, big Thanks, saved me £110 today and i can live with a red keyboard.

      Nevermind! Figured it out after digging through the comments. It belongs between the aluminum plate and the top portion of the board where the caps, number, and scroll lock leds are. The three nubs should fit in the holes in the aluminum.

      +Hendrik Hendrikson It's probably about as good as a keyboard gets to be honest (if you don't chuck drinks over it) the key switches are arguably the best you can get, and it is very solid. The RGB LED's are over the top extravagant, so if you don't need them, the single colour ones are much cheaper. I got mine on holiday in the US as they are much cheaper there than the UK. So I would say you should go for it if you can

  • @FrenzyGaming48
    @FrenzyGaming48 9 років тому

    My Corsair K70 Cherry Red doesn't have the big rectangle logo in the top center. Instead it has a more streamlined logo that is fit to the letters with the Sail design off to the left. I'm going to begin disassembling it tonight to start the cleaning/dry out process. I was wondering if there was a safe way to remove the logo like you had to, but without the fancy heating tools that I don't have.

    • @arcadeuk
      @arcadeuk  9 років тому

      +FrenzyGaming I would say getting a thin knife or razor blade under the logo would be best, and keeping the blade as flat as possible so as not to bend the logo. Also I am jealous as I would rather have the classic Corsair sail, rather than the teenagers tramp stamp of a logo

    • @FrenzyGaming48
      @FrenzyGaming48 9 років тому

      +arcadeuk good idea.
      And yes, the classic sail looks way nicer than the logo on your keyboard. Even my Corsair ddr4 vengeance cards have the sail :p

    • @arcadeuk
      @arcadeuk  9 років тому

      +FrenzyGaming I think everyone has made it clear on the Corsair forums that they hate the tramp stamp, but I bet they spent millions on designing it and refuse to go back now. It's very silly to change a well recognised brang logo to something completely different for no good reason, especially without market research

  • @catlightst
    @catlightst 5 років тому

    My Vengeance K95 was non functional after I spilled beer over it (it lit up but was just blinking on numlock, capslock, scrollock) and no key presses registered. so it took it apart and shaked it around and pressed all the keys a few times while having it under water, then pressed all the keys out of water to dry it off as much as possible. Afterwards I left it on it's side overnight and low and behold it now works completely fine.
