Just wonderful! I've been looking for this forever and it far from disappoints. This and the BBC's THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS from the 1970s are superior adaptations
Thank you sooooo much for uploading! I loved this series when I was a kid and it first came out on TV. I had watched the series over and over again. Much appreciated.
This is pretty stunning. Thank you SO much for posting this, including the PBS logo and made possible by ads! I couldn't believe this when I first saw it on PBS. How they could have perfectly cast "The Scarlet Letter" with Meg Foster as Hester, John Heard as Rev. Dimsdale and Kevin Conway as Roger Chillingworth is amazing.
This is the best and truest version of Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel. That 1995 travesty starring Demi Moore was so bad and off the wall that I couldn't finish watching it! Don't bother with that one if you want to see a masterpiece. Stick with this version. So well acted and so well done! Thank you for uploading it onto UA-cam! I have the dvd but the conversation is so quiet that I can't hear it very well. No captioning on the dvd.
I remember this version from school. I've read the book as well. There isn't much great about Chillingworth, but at least he won't take out vengeance on an innocent child. He makes it quite clear in the book that he will not avenge himself on Pearl.
Meg Foster’s eyes were so mesmerizing when I saw this in high school.
Thank you! I love Meg Foster in this role!
This is wonderful that we can finally see this again!
Omg this was so hard to find! Thanks so much!
Thank you for posting this fine adaptation! 😊❤
I remember seeing this on tv long long ago

I am so happy to find this!! This is my favorite version, I haven't seen it since it originally aired on PBS ❤ Megan Foster is soooo beautiful!
Ikr....Meg has amazing eyes 👁

That PBS broadcast brings me back to my childhood
@@talltalllady it really does. It was one of the few books I really enjoyed on our required reading list. It is truly a terrific adaptation.
Rest well John....you gave the world so many great characters...thanks.
GOOD MOVIE. NOTHING HAS CHANGED. JUST THE CLOTHES.
I seen this version in English Literature Class in Highschool in Mid 80s.
Is the actor playing the man she cheated with Steven Weber?
@@talltalllady Looks like him, but no it is John Heard.
@@supertrouper2550 Thanks

@@cynthianolder3557 Yes. Was sad when I read of his passing. This mini series made me aware of his talents.

Do we have to return this movie back to the library 🤔
Dimmesdale loved Hester, but he always thought Paulie was a psycho.
