My jaw dropped when we got to Streetlights. Every last one of these are amazing in their own way, but I honestly wasn't expecting the sheer variety and MASTERY of each. Brilliant work. Keep it up! 👍
Dear Lord, this is one of the most eye opening animation exercises I have seen for a very long time. Absolutely gorgeous. ♥ (0:40 Overcast and Sunset in particular look like something straight out of Klaus).
this the gray cartoon pony who made that amazing short film about an engineering student drinking water! Oh and the 2d animated short film about drawer apartments as well
Forest and street lights are both amazing in their own right. Really captured the feeling of the sun specks crawling out through trees, or that pulsing walk under bright lights in a dark place. But all the rest is still great work to, and kind of just fun with that little setup animation.
Not only were you able to perfectly show us all these different lighting techniques, but you also made these beautifully animated walk cycles! amazing quality bro, bravo!
I am utterly astounded that these amazing shading tests were put in the context of some guy involving a test subject in a studio lighting rig. That’s awesome!
That was amazing. I loved that it included random styles like jjk and dbz, that got a real laugh out of me. This video needs to be archived as an important piece of internet information.
You got me to watch 28 different walk cycles with different lighting and shades. It looks so detailed and well made for a study. Also realize the 29th one at the end where they change was pretty neat too.
The fukin anime refrences got me, I wasn't expecting them but it killed me how accurate they were, literally perfect representation of shading imo, and would likely end up used in so many future art classes (or at least it should) awesome work 😄
I always knew that shading in animation is important and adds to the atmosphere of a scene but actually seeing a demonstration for each of these different forms gives off a certain beauty that I just can't describe.
Freaking love all the takes on this, almost reminds me to the insane shading and lighting done for Who Frame Roger rabbit, it has that very good 3d look
I am so extremely proud of the fact that you toned down the amount of frames. Not only it's easier to produce, now your animations look very natural while still smooth!!!
I never comment but this is one of the coolest things I’ve seen on here. The whole thing is great but I especially love the split view allowing me to keep looking at one even after a new one pops up. Really great.
My goodness, this is the one of the most creative and coolest animation exercises I have ever seen. I'll forever keep this video in my mind when studying different kinds of shading.
How the hell do you make such beautiful animations so quickly. I watch so many animators that take a whole year to make something only half as good as this.
I have a lot more free time than most people despite working a 40-hour/week full-time job, just because of my lifestyle :P I live alone, don't really do anything for entertainment or leisure, don't keep in touch or hang out with more than a couple people, and also get unhappy if I have to go even one day without producing some kind of tangible output. No plans on ever changing any of those things lol

That was so nice to look at! It really helped me get to know some more styles to practice. And I enjoyed that it was just a slice of life cartoon all throughout. It was nice seeing something like that for a change in indie animation.
the amount of effort on display here is insane. I am pained thinking about how long this probably took to make lol. every time I thought it had to be done it just kept going and impressing me more and more. At certain points it just becomes an experiment in colour and lineart too. You went above and beyond for this study and I have huge respect for that. Honestly I might come back to this video to help with my own animations if I ever feel like putting myself through shading lol, I think it would be a great tool for reference

There have only ever been a few people online who have inspired me to start genuinely pursuing art and animation. You, my friend, have just become one of them
This is so beautifully animated, some lighting styles even look accurate to how it would look in 3D software. Me as 3D artist I basically get lighting mostly for free and just have to adjust some parameters and settings, but I cannot imagine how painful it must be to draw lighting by hand. I've made a short 3 second animation with lighting before once, using drawing. I don't think I'll do it again. LOL
This is one of the best educational animations I've watched in so long. I now know more about shadows than I did in highschool. Thank you oh wise one🙏🏽
This is amazing. I can't even tell if it's 2D, or 3D in some cases (or maybe just both), especially with the stylized shading techniques like the Comic and Bold ones!
@@SirloinBurgers That is legitimately so impressive, because I no joke thought that some of the transitions were 3D with how smoothly the light moved on the legs/arms!
This is by far the best video I’ve watched to help me with shading, I can see how the light moves on the character, even while they’re in different environments
Dude I love the art style and animation, it's so expressive! Every one of these animation studies you do (and just animations in general) amazes me, I really look forward to seeing more because I really love this stuff!

Currently I use a 24" XPPen Artist24 Pro tablet and have no complaints (it was $1000 when I got it though). I've only had it for a couple years, before that I had a 20" Huion KAMVAS 20 tablet. These two have actual displays on them so it's like drawing on a monitor. When I got into digital art I spent the first five-ish years with cheaper tablets that didn't have a display, partially because I was in early high school with only birthday money to my name but also because I didn't even know if I'd enjoy it. I upgraded a total of three times, each time realizing that I wanted to take art more seriously as a hobby :)
@@SirloinBurgers Wow im really surprised u replied (and so soon at that!). I have been using a tablet w/o a screen for a while (2-3 odd years) and find it a little difficult.
