Finally, someone who helped me make a decision. I really wanted a shade tolerant fine bladed bermuda seeds, but I see no such options. So will go with the fine bladed Zoysia. Thank you
My yard is Emerald Zoysia a very fine angel hair grass, when walking on it barefoot it's like waking on memory foam very very thick grass once established, very drought resistant and shade tolerant and extreme wear resistant.
Im learning about emerald zyosia. What height do u usually keep yours. Sometimes mine feels spikey. Also Thinking of doing a chipping area in part of mine.
You are fairly closeby. Wish I'd have known about your 'process' 5 yrs ago. I had front and back yard done in Zoysia Palisades installed and, lets just say the install process wasn't what I was expecting. But dispite a less than good job installing, the first spring/summer it was beginning to take root and by the next spring it was *by far* the prettiest lawn I'd ever seen. It has been that way for the last 4 years. Last summers heat (Dallas extremes) started taking a toll on it. Then several areas (around 1 1/2 pallets) were needed to 'fix' the dead spots. Then this past winter (2023) is was clear something happened, and it looked horrible. Dead thatch everywhere. Now (mid-may 2024) it's trying to make a come-back. Most of the front yard is tyring and starting to fill in with maybe 200-300 sq feet in scattered areas still is just thatch. The back yard is pretty bad. Anyway, those thinking of Zoysia, it is very pretty and thick. The root structure is strong (just under the surface) and I have to go around the sprinkler heads with a garden tool and push down and cut some of the root structure away because the sprinkler heads wont pop up or retract. And, *by the way,* you've got one of the best videos I've seen explaning what to expect. Well Done *A+++*
Awesome feedback and insight with Zoysia. Thanks. While Zoysia is a very strong turf for North Texas, it can get freeze damage, drought dame, pest, and fungus problems. There is no hands free lawn out there but there is less that will happen to Zoysia as compared to other varieties such as Saint Augustine grass.
Fantastic video!!! Lots of helpful information! Im in Brownsville TX warm season lawn but just the info you gave is awesome!! Im stucked to St Agustine and either a fungus or grub problem. And im trying to get as much info to see how to fix my lawn recover.
another great video. It's really hard to find close-up images of grass, especially of fine-bladed zoysias. thanks. I'm collecting some samples now, maybe in the near future I will be able to get some good images myself. just not easy to get samples.
Love this video! I was looking to find how I can eliminate Crab Grass without damaging Zoysia! Thanks for the tip of Quinclorac! Great video - and now I've discovered I have Palisade Zoysia - we're watching from Bonita Springs, Florida! Thank you!
I live in northern New Jersey, the house I moved into 12 years already had Zoysia grass (don't know which type). But last year the town had replaced the curbs on every corner and destroyed 15 foot section of the Zoysia grass and they are not going to fix it. what is the best and fastest way to add more Zoysia .thanks
Love watching these Zoysia installs. When we built our house in DFW in 1999, we installed El Toro Zoysia. It was hard to find and twice the cost of standard Bermuda or SA, but I'm glad we did, as it's been a great lawn for our family and dogs. As our trees have matured, I have a couple of areas that only get filtered sunlight and the grass is very thin. Which of the Zoysia types that you've mentioned would be best to try in these areas? And is El Toro still available? I also have SA taking over a part of my backyard, so would the Quinchlorac be safe to use on my El Toro? Thanks!
I have uprooted ALL of my ST. AUG grass ... Too much maintenance like a hot looking girlfriend here in SE Looziana. Have sowed Common Bermuda in all of the sunny areas (most of my lawn). I like it for it's low maintenance demands and drought tolerance. The North facing front of house (10 to 12 ft) and neighbors Oak Tree shade on the SE side needs something else. Need a recommendation ... ANYBODY?
I'm desperate for some help. I live here in Weatherford and was wondering if you know any distributors here that are really good quality that would come give me an estimate?
Is it true that zoysia prefer more potassium than phosphorus? 15-0-15 or 16-4-8? I have Zeon zoysia here in Georgia and it seems like it wants to go dormant in summer time even though I water it twice a day
Hey I'm in central Florida, I have Empire Zoysia. I recently bought Peter's 20-20-20 water soluble fertilizer. My questions are; is this a good fertilizer and how do I know how much fertilizer do I need to mix with 1 gallon of water? Thanks
My Empire Icon looks absolutely terrible. Was installed in June and came with grubs and mole crickets. (Florida sod farm/different install company). Also…I had no idea before having it Installed, but the roots have sharp thorns?? Super concerned about this.
my front zoysia lawn in alabama has turned brown over the past month or so. it was fertilized about that time, and we got a ton of rain. it has a thick thatch layer built up and I am afraid maybe it has a fungus. I am working on dethatching this weekend. but should I spray some sort of fungicide too?
Color depends a lot on how you are feeding it. In the fine blade I love Zorro and Zeon. Palisades and Jamur Zoysia in the medium bladed zoysias look awesome too. Emerald is a lighter shade of green so most people go Zeon or Zorro or even Cavalier if they like the darker green.
Water 2x per day for first 2 weeks 12 minutes popups 22 minutes rotors, 22 minutes for drip. Then week 3-4 water just once a day. I like to water at 4 am and 2 pm. The rest of the first season water 3x per week.
As an iragation contractor the sprinkler heads you we’re talking about are bad when they get bumped or knocked of the side it changes the pattern plus the use more gpm so they can do a 360 staying with a fixed nozzle pattern is the best way to go as I saw that sidewalk covered in over spray the nozzle for that should be an sst 15 or sst 17 there designed to spray sideways 3 to 4 ft wide for narrow areas. Yes your a landscaper looks like you do good work but on the lawn sprinklers just like your sod there’s a proper spray pattern and sprinkler head there’s a lot that goes into designing layout of a system not to just throw in a nozzle or sprinkler head that does all it wrong I’m proper coverage and wasting water
I Couldn't agree more. We do many things great and some things good. In this case there is a better nozzle for parkways like you say. 15SST nozzles throw 15 ft left and right and just 3-4 ft in front of the nozzle which is ideal when spraying the parkway lawns by the street. This avoids dumping water out onto the sidewalk or the street. We do love the versatility of the 360 nozzles and their use is great for most areas of a lawn. They are easy to adjust and very easy for a homeowner to achieve adequate coverage for their new lawn. When you are fine tuning a sprinkler system and your goal is not only covering the area but also the conservation of water then I agree it should be dialed in with fixed nozzles.
HELP please. I need to know which variety is the most cold tolerant. I have one I don't remember the name, 30km away from Mediterranean coast and it's almost dead from november to the beginning of April. And it's a big problem for me. Seriously thinking to retrograde to traditional lawns.
I have empire zoysia grass and it is very hard to maintain,it’s prone to brown patch and fungus and I take good care of my lawn,I recommend st Augustine for the average home owner
Randy, I'm in Charlotte too, but put my Palisades (love it), down myself. I bought it from Carolina Fresh Farms in Rock Hill, but I'm sure they lay it as well. Part-shade no problem w Palisades.
That is all going to depend on scarcity in your region. If the farms are growing more of one thing and having success then it will be plentiful and cheap than other varieties. In Texas Saint Augustine is about $50 cheaper by the pallet.
I seeded zenith zoysia in summer of 2022. It looks ok, but I want to go to zeon zoysia (the super small fine blade) ... But it's $$$ and comes in sod only 😢
I seeded with zenith zoysia in May 2022 and it was the best decision I've ever made! It took forever to establish last year, so just be patient. This is my second year with zoysia and my yard is by far the best on the block! The shady spots are still taking their time to fill in, but it's getting there.
@@vroor32 what!? 5" is crazy high for zoysia. Does the riding mower not allow for a shorter cut? I've been cutting mine at 2". If you can drop your mower, I would recommend slowly working down to a 2" cut. Don't lop it off all at once, but drop the mower an each each week until you make it down to a 2".
absolutely yes. rotary can be an issue actually. You need a really good blade, very sharp and very fast rotary to be able to use it. reel mower is ideal.
Tanner, I'm really struggling deciding between Palisades and Zeon for my backyard renovation. I like the look of Zeon and the fine blade but will be mowing it with a rotary and my wife also doesn't want the lawn mowed too short. I have a dog and wondered which of the 2 varieties would be better for wear and urine spots with a dog. And are they both soft grasses to walk on?? Any advice for me??
Palisades and zeon both have trouble repairing with urine spots. Palisades seems to be worse than the zeon. Check this out ua-cam.com/video/dyLx-zn5deo/v-deo.html
Listen .I'm older than this guy I may be older than. The planet ..heres the deal this guy is in Texas .I can't speak on Texas. In Florida zoisa does great ..but.once the bugs come it's over. They don't last 5 yrs . Floritam.. Florida do m ....

Key to a happy zoysia lawn is the soil preparation, content, and proper watering. Love my Jamur variety.
Very true! Jamur is another great grass variety. Similar to Palisades medium bladed Zoysia
