Anyone who may not get why glue-ups are stressful needs to watch this, it illustrates it perfectly. This going to and epic table and d*mmed heavy. Loving this video format, so well done!
Thank you mate, I appreciate your kind words!!! The only thing missing was me throwing shit across the room (cut out) oh and it would of been really epic if someone had walked in for a chat too 😂
I could feel my stress levels rise just watching that glue-up. Your's must have been through the roof. Beautiful work Ben.
Even with a glue with extended open time means sod all, especially in summer!! I had to cut a lot out put it that way 😆
Epic one Ben.. that glueup around 17:30 region onwards looked a lot stressful 😁
You should of seen the first one when I tried to glue it all up in one go, that was a cluster-fuck!!! 😂
Completely missed this video. Was served up on the home page 🎉
It’s getting on my tits, only one out 60 plus subbed channels only one is served up to me when I open the app on the tv, I started a fresh account and that’s the same too 🤦🏻♂️I say that it’s actually worse cause it shows me all vids I’ve already watched 🤦🏻♂️
Love the technique of laying stuff out on a board, makes cockups way less likely
Lets me know those angles perfect which is the crux of the idea 👍
You need different coloured tape to colour code the joints, and help out in the glue up, you had me laughing and sweating at the same time 😂😅 tables looking real good 😎
I need to figure something out, big mistake labelling both sides of the joints with a letter from a the alphabet, zeds look like N’s etc, one day I’ll figure this out 😂
Oh, Ben! You and I are very similar. I also never plan in advance the location of the strubcines to tie the parts. 😁
…if ya do it also goes tits up 😂
Feel the glue up stress. There's one stage in particular with my chairs, bringing 2 finished and polished frames together. Many F words! An epic oak haul mate. Gorgeous burr. How'd you land that? Your local merchant stocks that kinda stuff? Look forward to seeing the end result. Gonna be hench by the looks if the legs😉
Yeah a local saw mill, a friend of mine makes huge table tops and he asked me to make the wooden legs. He’s making a bandsaw mill at the mo that will have a cut capacity of 6’! I can’t wait to see that!!!
@@HewAndAwe Nice 👌
That was some top notch clamping right there.
Cheers dude, comes from my S and M days 😂
What's the capacity of your blades? Yes.
What about their strength? Yes.
Anyways, what you're up to? Yes.
Had troubles? Oh, Kum'on! My legs hurt...
😂😂😂😂😂
Cracking way to spend my lunch. Great vid mate. I'm yet to see another WW UA-camr with camerawork half as nice. Been wanting to ask, do you recommend any of the 3 in 1 shoulder planes? Eyeing up the Clifton but think the new Axminster one might be worth a punt. Cheers Ben!
Thanks mate! I haven’t used them to say, but I see they come with 01 steel which is good! The Axminster ones look nice but it’s not a point I’d base the purchase on. I would look at the high end shoulder planes look at their functions and features and buy whats the closest to those planes dude. And if you can actually hold them cause they are the most uncomfortable planes I have to use!
Possibly the best video in the history of you-tube. From someone who has watched all of yours Ben and many many more on many subjects. Hew & Awesome…..
Thanks mate! I looked back at my old vids and thought I should go back to what I was doing when my channel was growing and leave my depressing voice out, gonna see how that goes for a few more vids 👍
In my experience, colored masking tape is a bad idea for glue ups like this. If it gets pinched between the boards or glued in a tight spot and you can’t get it 100% off you will see green bits in the final piece. Better to use normal tan colored tape as it’s similar to wood color and won’t be noticed, just in case. It’s a lesson I learned from my mistakes.
I found either way it’s visible so now if that happens I push the tape into the joint and then get a dab of glue on my finger and wipe across the join and no one is the wiser ☺️
Back to the great old style, music, cockups and the rest , Ab Fab , thanks, hope the blues have lifted ,making things help
Cheers mate! I thought let’s try making vids like I did years ago that seem to of done well to hopefully put my channel back on the map, my miserable depressing voice can’t be helping and I’m not gonna be a fake “WASSSSAUUUPPPP!!!” Person either! 🤦🏻♂️
What's more stressful than a glue up? Someone asking you a basic question during a glue up.
Hell-yeah!!!! My mum just won’t listen to that she walk in can we chat, completely ignore me throwing shit around the gaff 🤦🏻♂️ I need a red and green light outside the workshop red for glue up in progress 😂
6:12 ...I sometimes end up with a bit of kum on my bench too. Awesome video, music, everything. Cheers man👍
😂😂😂 “The MASTERPIECE” 🤣😂🤣😂
Tracksaw hold down clamps, they're a thing also i hate it when i get Kum on my workbench too - another excellent video
Kum “the masterpiece” it’s a German brand too 😂😂😂
Cutting thick burr oak the table saw had me stressing so much tension. but its a beautiful wood 1 of my favorite.
Wasn’t as bad as I was expecting to be honest, a couple of bad pinches but so much weight to not be a big deal, it’s only a 3hp saw. It’s my favourite I wish I could afford to more work with it!!
Lovely work as always. And a few bob spent on blade sharpening??
Cheers dude! Another blade to go on the ever increasing pile that need to go off to be sharpened, I pity the poor postman who’s gotta carry that lot 😂
top work again fella, but man that glue up took years off me, beautiful result though
Wait till you see the next one then 😂 5min PU glue and a drawer, what could possibly go wrong! 😇
Nice work dude. Such a good place for work 😉😉
Thanks dude, I may have bad news on the front though might loose my workshop 😔
I need a riving knife for my table saw. Good stuff you are doing there.
…especially if you’re ripping wood like that!
Ben, i was absolutely taken aback with the styling and cinematography of this video. For me it seems slightly different to your usual, but it was brilliant. The build was, of course, of the same high quality but then again they usually are. Great to see you on top form mate.
Thanks mate, I as you know I’m not feeling it with UA-cam well they’re not showing my vids to peeps not subscribed, if you look at this years vids all hit about 4-5k and that’s were they stay. So I thought let’s look at my vids that have done well and try that again so yeah the music type vids did well so next few vids will be the same to see if that makes a difference to my dwindling channel.
Looks great.
My heart rate went through the roof with you on that glue up 😂
You should of seen the first one, I had the balls to do the whole thing in one sitting… it didn’t go well!! 😂
You've turned a scabby slab into something beautiful! And nice Short Circuit 2 sample at the end :)
Lol I wouldn’t say brown oak burr scabby, that’s shit costs ££££’s dude! ☺️
@@HewAndAwe Oh, I expect so, it just didn't look like much in raw form!
Dude dont no how there wasnt clamps bottles glue mallets abd anything else that was about getting flung across room with that glue up felt it for ya m8. Looking wicked though can't wait see how it turns out. 🏴👍
There was, I cut that out cause that was just embarrassing 😂 I hate those bessy clamps anyway 🤦🏻♂️
@@HewAndAwe can't comment on Bessy clamps never owned them to poor of a woodworker to own Bessy clamps. Ad of kept it in for giggles 😅🏴👍
Everybody here is talking about how stressful the glue up was. I was personally stressed every time you used that table saw. I half expected for you to come back each time with your hand wrapped up and missing a finger or two. You have a track saw so might I suggest to break down those uneven boards with that a bit more before your milling process instead of the table saw
On the contrary, if you notice how the boards were on the table saw when they were finished being ripped they dropped away from the blade. Not only that but that’s only a 3hp saw not strong enough to move the weight I was putting through it. I also make sure my hands never go into the red zone the throat plate area. That was difficult to see from the camera angles. A track saw is actually more dangerous especially that huge bad boy, you can’t clamp the track down, and unless the cut off is left suspended in air the piece could pinch the blade in one of two ways. It’s also very slow compared to a 3hp saw! There’s a lot of tension in burr wood which I’d rather deal with at a table saw than a track saw riding up the track towards me, a table saw blade is static.
@@HewAndAwe that blade may be static but you and the board are not. All it would take is for one tooth to catch and pull that piece to catch and pull your hand in. I have seen many videos of hands far from the blade get pulled towards the blade in a matter of milliseconds. General rule of thumb is do not run severely warped and twisted boards through the table saw, especially if you know there is potential stress in that wood. It is not for me. Way to many people lose digits on a daily basis to the table saw and at the end of the day I will take every precaution to keep mine and limit my chances for issues.
It's going to be an epic table..that should see several generations of use at minimum..I hope you mark / label your work..here in the states that's at minimum a few thousand dollars just for the slabs..probably at least a $10k table and possibly a $20k table if not more to get commissioned here..That Blacktail guy would charge $50k..
Veeeeery different over there though bud! The wood yeah fucking expensive but 1% of the population would pay that kinda money - besides I call BS on his vids he’s not getting 50k for a table no way. It’s not like they’re class either.
@@HewAndAwe Blacktail claims to get 8k to 10k for a epoxy wood desk top, zero drawers..just prefab metal legs screwed on..some are claiming 20k to 30k for a dinner table size..which is insanely expensive..if Blacktail studio made it..he would charge 50k as he has people on a multi year waiting list to pay 10k for 700 worth of materials..it's gross how much you pay for so little..if you charge too low like a fair price you won't have customers..if you grossly over charge and make people wait it makes a false sense of rarity and value..people do this in several different fields..knife makers, golf clubs, fishing poles, furniture etc..double or triple the fair price then make them wait at least several months at minimum..that's seriously the business practices..Cheers..
@@agentcovert I’ve a special kind of hate for those metal legs! They also come loose over time. I’m still surprise how the resin thing is still a thing! It’s looking pretty gash these days imo. Great for filling knots and the likes but any more than that turns me off!
Really nice ,are you doing top then ?.
Cheers dude, I’m not no an friend is but I will post the pics when I get them! 👍
Those are smokin' hot, that glue-up though
I hate glue-ups, doesn’t matter how well you prepare 99% something goes wrong, less so in winter but… 🤦🏻♂️
Wtf were you thinking mate? 😱
Que?
Excellent video Ben. Very well edited and both audio and video were perfect. Really like the music. Despite leaving the worst of your stressed moments during the glue up, on the cutting room floor you still manage to convey the anxiety of that glue-up. Very relatable to all woodworkers.
I’m looking at some film studio lights the red and green for glue ups 😂
Beautiful great work
Cheers Jim! 🍻🍻🍻
Very impressive video!
Thank you Jim! I hope you’re having a lovely weekend! 🍻🍻🍻
Top work Ben, lad 👍
Cheers dude!! 🍻🍻🍻
Not sure if there was more workmanship or stress going on there. Looking bloody good now it’s together.
How ever much you plan a glue up, it only takes one thing to kill what little open time a glue has, I left it in cause the above is real life not UA-cam fake BS. Hope you’re having a lovely weekend dude!!! 🍻🍻🍻
@@HewAndAweyes thanks just over the rough day of my chemo. I’ve had scares with glue ups but my stuff is generally on a much smaller scale. Enjoy the thunderstorm it’ll clear the air.
Oh-dude, I hope you recover soon!!! 🍻🍻🍻
Hew, that was Awe-some! The glue-up frustrations were fascinating, sped-up! Fabulous music, a hallmark of yours, is always a good touch for an ASMR format. Looking forward to seeing what those legs will support (a train trestle? An ancient megalith?)
Hahaha a huge dining table, a friend is making that though so waiting for pics!
Nice legs Ben 😅
Hahaha nice and oiled and waxed 😂
nice work
Cheers dude!!! 🍻🍻🍻
That is gorgeous, brown oak definitely one of my favourites! Awesome video as usual!
It’s my favourite, I couldn’t believe I was asked to make farmhouse style legs out of it, I was waiting to be told “and paint them white” 😂
I love how you always make it simple for yourself!
Cracking piece of work mate.
It’s not fun any other way 😂 Thank you Paul! ☺️

Translate not working 😂
