- A House education committee says it is investigating plagiarism allegations against Harvard University President Claudine Gay. The probe comes as Gay has resisted calls to resign over her response to Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7 and protests on campus. CBS News' Nancy Chen reports.

The funniest part is she was plagiarizing sociology "theory", so she could have just made up anything and it would have been just as clever.
She didn't plagiarize. She missed some citations, but had the quotes. Or forgot the quotes, but had the citation. It's not plagiarism, it's a hit job.

For example, if you compare Taking Charge: Black Electoral Success and the Redefinition of Politics (p.32) with Racial Polarization and Turnout in Lousiana: New Insights from Aggregate Data Analysis (p.10) you will see that not only did she not use quotes, she changed language in several places (e.g. "decrease" to "increase", "description of" to "a way to think about", etc...), and most importantly did not cite the source anywhere in the paper. To reiterate, she neither used quotation marks nor cited the original author. I encourage you to review the example I provided and to not take any more information from this outlet at face value.

Wonder why her dissertation committee didn't find the plagiarism before letting her complete her doctorate degree? If there is any suspicion of wrongdoings or blatant evidence of plagiarism, your completion of any doctoral program is immediately denied. There are many ABD (all but dissertation) failures due to the strenuous and demanding doctoral program. Plus, appeasing every member of your dissertation committee is no picnic either. This whole situation is a shame and disgrace upon Harvard University.

It's just thinly veiled racism. The belief that poc can never be intellectually equivocal. I see it all the time. Even when others are far more intelligent, they will find any flaw and just keep talking about it constantly. They will constantly be trying to find mistakes or point out flaws. They will say things like oh I would have done it this way. Well, it would be better if I had done this, which makes more sense. Well, this way or product is inferior because it comes from here instead of American made. No people are not given positions just because of their skin. In fact they are not given promotions and every little thing they do is used against them when it comes to moving up or getting more or even equal pay. They are not even considered for positions when more than qualified. The reason the diversity laws were there is because of the racist treatment in the workforce. The racism unfortunately never left, and all this has just brought it out of secrecy, and put it back on the front burner. Wrong is wrong and right is right no matter how much people want to silence it. Of course she should have carefully chosen her words and thought long and hard before she ever spoke to the media. She should have said I do not make rash judgments. This university will deal with bullying and harassment from both sides according to this university's mutually agreed upon plan of action. I will not use any personal feelings or beliefs into any actions that this university will take to address this difficult and nuanced situation of freedom of speech and protest from either side. Our job is to facilitate our young adults' critical thinking and problem solving skills in a safe and healthy way. Our school will take all measures to ensure this is properly done within each h and every students constitutional rights. I have no further comments at this time on the war in Israel or the students conflict here at this great institution. She said too much and let the media corner and pressure her into saying something she didn't mean or intend to say.

Harvard has received billions in federal grants. They received $676,000,000 just this year.
@@simex909 that is 0.03% of the total FY23 federal budget. At that rate there will be 3,000 hearings per year. This is ABSOLUTELY something the Department of Education could look into.

If there are 3000 instances of waste at the same amount, that would be about 30% of the federal budget. Releasing that money for other purposes seems like an incredibly valuable use of time. Saying that saving money is a waste of money is a strange argument to make. So I referenced a famous book that explores the idea of words being given their opposite meanings. In your case the meaning of "waste" and "save" have been reversed.
