My father is very dark skinned. So when I was growing up , he used to say the day I was born he was happy but what made him happier was that I didn't get his skin tone. So imagine how much insecurity we have with our own skin tone.
Im don't have a dark skin i kinda have tan skin and my sibling and cousins have light skin tone. But my family never pointed this out to me, im thankful for that. Off course i pointed out and had this insecurity cause some friend was trying to make herself better, but you know what i don't care about my skin tone
Same i have fair complexion because of my mom and my father was dark skinned and he used to apply fair and lovely at that time, then i got to know about how skin tone works and now if someone try to change of "compliment" me i tell them about how it goes because i have skin allergies and sensitive skin which comes from living in a tropical zone.
People in America adore tanned skin and so do people from Brazil. Koreans and Chinese prefer fair skin. It’s a culture thing I guess but there is not bias about it being insulting to Indian culture. Please be broad minded:
Thats what happening now. You remember your culture but dont follow it. Thats the problem. What is the use of remembering it when you dont follow it. No I totally disagree, not every classical dancer is famous right. We still don't know billions of small singers. I have some friends in South they are extremely famous so people DO go and watch their performances.
There is a vast difference between classical arts and pop culture. . Pop culture is available on youtibe, TV, radio, it finds you vs classical I don't even know where it is performed . Pop culture is relatable, lyrics and video is self explanatory vs classical needs explanation about stories told, expressions, meaning of steps = not 1 performance does this. Yes, govt doesn't want us to learn this and instead wants us to learn choir but that outs burden on performers of classical . Pop culture is dearth cheap vs classical performances start at 3000rs for some far away seat which is as good as not going.

People in India don't care if a person can speak 10 Indian languages but laugh at him when he doesn't know English. English is considered a standard more than just a language. It's sad that people are ignoring the culture, language and tradition that has deep roots and goes way back in the past. Edit: To all the people saying that I wrote this comment in English. I did not say we shouldn't be learning or speaking in English. I just said people should consider it just as a language and give equal importance to their mother tongue too. I totally agree that English is a must for communication considering the diversity in India and also it's the global language.
Well living under British occupational regimes made it acceptable for learning and using English to get at par with global stuff etc. Even Bollywood used English to make it's reach in Europe and American continent, nearly every Bollywood star spoke in English starting from late 80s...
It's actually true though, if someone can speak english fluently, they have a much higher chance of being successful financially and academically than someone who can barely speak english.
There r so many languages in India, English is the one that brings everyone together. Mocking someone over their English is wrong but at the same time u cannot deny the fact that fluent English gives u more opportunities both in India and abroad. Know ur mother tongue AND English as well 👍

yep unfortunately. its not really racism like it is in the US or other western countries, but it's classism. supposedly, people who were more poor did manual labor and worked outside, tanning from the sun. the upperclassman and aristocrats wouldn't go outside as often, hence being paler. the idea of skin being indicative of your placement on a social hierarchy was passed down onto generations, to what it is today, even in the modern world. now it's adapted into more of a beauty standard, rather than your wealth, but it still roots to classism.

Don't worry about the "Posh Aunties" ... capitalism is the right way to solve this problem..just add some money in speaking Sanskrit and respective regional languages.... I am sure the aunties have more obsession with sarkari Naukri than English.... 4.) 😅😅😅..... Some might prefer that but youngsters were excited because they wanted to know what the hype was about. Also, India neither has very high disposable income for Starbucks, neither does it have a coffee culture. So Starbucks will only find a niche in tier 1 cities. Majority of Indians will stick to filter coffee or the classic - chai. 2. I agree with the indian clothes. Lungi is far more comfortable and we should bring back indian clothing. But indians don’t look down upon indian clothes. We still wear it on special occasions and parties. Jeans and t-shirt aren’t traditional western clothes. These are modern inventions. Which is why it’s the norm in most countries, not just india. 3. English has a mass appeal. It’s the most spoken language in the world. It’s also only one of the western languages. Your point would have made sense if more indians were learning Spanish, German, Italian, French than their native languages. Learning my native language doesn’t help me speak with as many people. At most I can converse with village elders. On the other hand, English is a unifying language to majority of the world. You would be making your video in your native language if English wasn’t an effective medium of mass communication. 4. You also comparing Justin Bieber who’s a pop singer with classical music. You need to realize that with time, the taste of people change. Why not compare him to indian pop singers like Arijit Singh? Or compare indian classical music to western classical music? Yet, how many dark skinned actresses can you name? Most of the actresses are light skinned. Even if they are dark skinned, heavy makeup, editing and lighting is applied to lighten their skin tone. Only 39% of the US population is black and yet their media has more dark skinned representation than in India. Even if you see depictions of Krishna in tv shows, you will see him being depicted as fair skinned even though his main defining characteristic in the Geeta is that he’s dark skinned. This is because Indians are so high on the fair skin superiority complex that they can’t even accept their gods being dark skinned. The main conclusion is you can't force people what to like whether Indian or Western. Indian traditions have a lot of qualities and attractiveness, but, are not performed at the frequency that others are mainly due to productional constraints at the commercial level. Secondly, there is a lack of institutions which focuses in imparting skills in these art forms. Outside India, there are big institutions of cultural arts which produce thousands of skilled students in their respective domains. Thirdly, the audience will always respect skill, no matter what art form it is. Korean industry is not western but it has a large global audience mainly because of its well-developed institutions and an environmental support from guardians to pursue a career in arts. Here, we only focus on academic lines of careers and hence the skills required for a professional in a career of arts goes missing. Hence, instead of telling people to watch Indian cultural art forms, focusing on bringing up the skills in the performers will do the required job.

But the worst I felt when my Parents did the same too😢😢😢 and do you know when it started when my little sister just born and I was only 6. Yah! I didn't even know what is the meaning of preety exactly. Imagine a 6 years old girl knowing that she is not beutiful and can never be. Because of her skin colour. My childhood would have been much better if nobody had told me these lies. I used cry because of this for hours literally. But, now I know it's not me, but the people who were blind. Who are able find ugliness even in a child.
You got skin darker than your sis is because you have a Lil bit melanin in your skin more than her, nothing more actually it's the lack of this science about skin that most people think dark skin is bad and when you start to realize it, you'll feel guilt for the person who says fair skin is more beautiful and at least in your mind you feel it's like a comedy or fun as theyre speaking nonsense, and it's my personal experience I also have dark skin
Say what u want, but as a brown skin girl I always think that women who had darker skin always looked healthier and more youthful...your dark skin should be the reason why u feel beautiful, u should NEVER feel insecure because of your dark skin...you know why? Because when u eventually gain the confidence to flaunt your dark skin and show people how beautiful you really are with your skin color, you will then start to realize how beautiful your skin really is... Show the world how beautiful dark skin truly is, don't hide yourself because of it ❤️ you're beautiful with it and exactly just the way u are, I promise
Sister don't worry even I have a darker skin tone than my younger brother, we have an age difference of 6 years and my relatives, parents and friends said my brother looks better than me due to his skin colour... I did not give a shit, I just ignored them. For you it might be a different case since you are a girl, but just take my suggestion, don't give a shit about it . Your life will instantly go better

The people who denounce their culture will some day regret it. To know who you are, where you come from, to have something special handed to you from generations past like your culture is a thing of beauty.
It is kinda hilarious, how I read as finnish/austrian this kind of creep. Here around we had something called "Würstelstandel" so something existing in the past that was considered a place where you eat german/austrian fastfood, nowadays, you have everywhere "Dönner" Kebab fast food chains, the native fastfood does not even exist anymore, because it contains pork, England or rather Great Britain has an indian major and prime minister, so why should be indian native culture be something special, when company identity is replacing everywhere native tradition it is not just "darker skinned" culture exclusively a target and a majority of white places consider tanned skin color more beautiful, I guess it depends on what you do not have, which is the thing someone craves.
This is not an obsession for western culture. It is an obsession for the rich culture,. We all see those countries as developed nations with all wealth prosperity, so naturally we feel they are superior than us. We feel Their language, culture, way of life, their skin color must be superior than us. Thats why they are richer than us. Just take a look at the long waiting list of people who want to get a green card, every year lakhs and lakhs of people are leaving their citizenship. I think dressing has more to do with confidence than with taste. We feel more comfortable wearing what people around us wear. Also art and music is subjective. I listen to western as well as classical Indian music depending on the mood. And you can't change what people like. Forcing people to live in a certain way does more harm than good. I dare you to find a single man wearing a dhoti kurta in the streets in a city. Change is inevitable, you either adapt to it or resist it. But it's equally as egotistical for one to consider classical Indian art to be superior in nature. It's a matter of taste and they're both different, and it's no one's business what kind of entertainment someone consumes.
I think it's high time we realise that liking a certain genre of music/artist shouldn't be linked to nationality or patriotism. As of Justin's concert, I believe you haven't been to a Sonu Nigam/Arijit Singh/Shreya Ghoshal or any Indian singer's concert - it's wild. The fair skin obsession doesn't really come from West only. The whiter skin obsession started during when india got colonised. And you are just killing your own culture by hating it . And at the end of the day it will be your own fault for killing India and its culture . (After their state's official language) 3) English is the only language used in all fields of India *(science, technology, education, medical, business, job field, information, space field, Navy, etc..)* 4) English is emerging as the future *"lingua franca"* of India and the World 5) English is *"indispensable"* today and giving more value to "English" after our "State language" is also good for our financial empowerment. I am from Himachal Pradesh. Once my nephew greeted his teacher by Namastey in market. The teacher immediately scolded him. He said that your parents are spending so much on your education and you are still saying namastey instead of good morning. I was literally shocked to hear it. yep unfortunately. its not really racism like it is in the US or other western countries, but it's classism. supposedly, people who were more poor did manual labor and worked outside, tanning from the sun. the upperclassman and aristocrats wouldn't go outside as often, hence being paler. the idea of skin being indicative of your placement on a social hierarchy was passed down onto generations, to what it is today, even in the modern world. now it's adapted into more of a beauty standard, rather than your wealth, but it still roots to classism.

1. We had regular eastern music and dance classes as juniors. 90% people chose guitar and piano later on in the extracurricular program
2. We had western dressing because we were an English medium school. Also you would notice that sarees or dhotis in general are a pretty vulnerable clothing and allow less movement of freedom. Almost any sport you play will be restricted if you wear these.
3. We had a full on 2nd language and 3rd language class till grade 10. We never really had any issues with speaking in our native language. I’m trilingual like the majority of indian people.
4. I’ve read scores of sst books and had my jolly time interacting with kids from different schools. No one said vasco da gama discovered india. It’s told nowhere.
5. About pop culture taking over, it’s simple really. Pop is more sellable and appeals more to the general audience. Now, what this woman is trying to do is, enforce her personal preferences over anyone because she feels its right. It’s not. Indian, American, Australia, jamaican, nigerian…. It rlly doesn’t matter when it comes to your preference. Pop is dirt cheap. You can actually listen to it for free with an internet connection. Next up, it has a more melodic sound. 2) I found Pants more comfortable and a lot of people too. But I don't mind if you wear dhoti or Vesti.
3) Even the typical "Posh Aunties" who make their children talk in English. Their children know how to read and write in their native language because you need to study minimum 2 languages unless your family migrated to other states.
4) Because Justin was really popular not only in India but the world so ofc you'll find this kinda response. A lot of people grew up watching traditional dances so it doesn't excite them anymore
Fair skin argument is correct btw. No one should be obsessed with skin colour

1.) I would prefer Cafe coffee day than Starbucks coz i like it more.... Plus it's an Indian brand. Even though I live in an industrial town there is no Starbucks in 30 km region.
2.) I know jeans is comfortable.... So absorb or digest that garment from the west and east up their right to claim it their ....you'll need to do propaganda for this. Also in the west (and in india too) what do they wear in their homes ....pyjamas..... Actually pajama (fuckin westy accent 🤣🤣).
3.) Don't worry about the "Posh Aunties" ... capitalism is the right way to solve this problem..just add some money in speaking Sanskrit and respective regional languages.... I am sure the aunties have more obsession with sarkari Naukri than English....
4.) 😅😅😅.....
Justin is not the same anymore ...listen to his songs now. total crap ...and guess who are the cutie romeos nowdays?? .....the kpop idols ....do they sing in English. No but in Korean. It's not a problem create pop music in Sanskrit ....i speak this as a musician.

@@mileshul 1. That's your own preference, but starbucks will always be seen as superior by the general public coz of it's status. Just like how Versace and Gucci are superior brands than Levis or Flying Machine.
2. Didn't get what you said in the first half. Paijama is a urdu word and this garment originated in the Ottoman Empire in 13th century. So it's not 100% indian as you might think.
3. If learning sanskrit made a hefty amount, ofc people would learn it. But the reality is, it doesn't. So the only incentive to learn sanskrit is to read religious scriptures. And as we know people in india as mostly hindus (or muslims) by label, they don;t bother learning sanskrit.
4. Again, a personal preference. There are no popular songs in sanskrit, so the people aren't to be blamed for that. In India, there are far greater number of fans for punjabi and hindi singers.

1. Starbucks has an international brand value. Not just in the west. They also have the highest quality beans roasted evenly which is not comparable to filter coffee in india cafés.
Because it doesn’t fit the narrative?
5. Obsession with fair skin needs to stop. Completely agree with that point.
6. Vasco da gama point was also valid. I remember learning that and it made no sense.
Can you please explain your fifth point.
@@azeem5471 Colourism is thing in India mainly because of british colonization and our minds haven’t been decolonized yet. “Light skin = Beautiful and Dark Skin = Ugly.” This association needs to stop. It is often deeply ingrained upon us by the society and darker skinned people are often discriminated against because of this. India is a country of largely dark skinned people.
Fair and Lovely had been fueling this bias and profiting on the insecurities that they created for decades, selling literal bleach for skin. We even have slangs for dark skinned people like “Kalu” or “Kalia”. We still see dark skinned as inferior and discriminate against them.

Okay, there may be some contradictions in her some videos. As you all know we can't demand zen percent perfection as no one is perfect.

The so called communism ideology is superb when we are able to practice it 100%. But you all know it's in that case remarked as an 'utopian' concept. And when you go through the idea of communism, marxism you can see it is against any kind of worship. As a brown skinned girl I understand it very well. My sister is fairer than me. And each and every relative/ friends/ neighbour had said it in my face in a manner that I would feel more insecure.
Relatable 😢
Sister don't worry even I have a darker skin tone than my younger brother, we have an age difference of 6 years and my relatives, parents and friends said my brother looks better than me due to his skin colour...

In Europe our traidtional dance, culture and religion are being neglected because we have become obsessed with modern music, food etc. I hope India can find balance between tradition and modernity 🇪🇺❤🇮🇳
That's not modernity, that is simply stupidity that's why so many european leaving their stupid culture and embrace the culture of India, maintaining old culture it's a beautiful thing , western world has money nowdays that's why people of the eastern world go to west and settled over there and embrace their life style. Aside from that, I do agree that people who consider classical Indian art to be inferior are egotistical to the extreme. But it's equally as egotistical for one to consider classical Indian art to be superior in nature. The fair skin obsession doesn't really come from West only. Colourism has always been an issue in India even when Western media didn't have enough reach in India. However, whatsoever is the reason for such an obsession, now it's much better in some parts of the country. 4.our obsession with dark skin yes agreed
Pants are more comfortable? Have ever wear dhoti or vesti a single time in your whole life for real ? It's definitely not comfortable
And when it comes to preserving and knowing about your cultures and heritages it's your parents responsibility to teach you? You don't have any responsibilities towards your culture ?
And you're asking what's wrong with ignoring and hating classical songs and listening to English songs ?
Simple answer , your ignorance will led to the extinction of classical music in india , just because of your this attitude we had already lost Dhrupad in North India , and Instruments like Rudra veena in South India . And you are just killing your own culture by hating it . And at the end of the day it will be your own fault for killing India and its culture .
It's maybe harsh but this is the reality , there is no counter argument for your own faults .
Not enjoying classical dance and music and having your own choice is okay but there are many people who haven't even explored the classical music . They don't have any idea of what it is . They might have just listened to one song years ago, found it boring or just believe to what others around them think and formed the opinion that classical is boring .
I believe the same. We can't always expect everyone to be inclined towards their own culture and not be influenced by western culture even a bit. It also depends upon one's freedom and choice we can't be biased about it.
Then you don't know the concept of soft power and playing with consumer psychology to create a market..........every popular thing in world needs promotion and it's very easy to become prey to that ..... it's a long process and very impactful also....west has already used the very powerful tool called guilt of our own culture against us that its not conscious anymore but works unconsciously...........
Agree with everything except pants
Bro dhoti is wayyyy more comfy than suffocating pants
You can say pants look formal but ain't no way they are more comfy than dhoti

Hope the day comes soon, when Hindi would unite all Indians. State languages are very important and so are Hindi and English. Importance of none of the languages can be doubted.
Why do we use English in every field of India? *(Why do we need English)*
1) India is a *"multilingual"* country & we have a different language family's *(Indo-european, Dravidian, indo-iranian sino-tibetan, Tibeto-burman, Semitic, astro-asiatic Etc..)* & India has no _-national language-_ or any _-monolingual policy-_ the country of India is a *"union system'* and "all languages are respected equally"
2) Only English is recognized and used as the *"second official language"* in all states of India! (After their state's official language)
3) English is the only language used in all fields of India *(science, technology, education, medical, business, job field, information, space field, Navy, etc..)*
4) English is emerging as the future *"lingua franca"* of India and the World
5) English is *"indispensable"* today and giving more value to "English" after our "State language" is also good for our financial empowerment.
It is better that we accept the reality and equally important to respect all our Indian languages..
