- Another epic race!
Wasn't sure of what my finishing position would be. Especially at half way.
I re-live the whole experience and speak through the thoughts that ran through my mind.
I hope this video helps if you good insight into my mindset during a race.
I hope it can help you too!

Onwards and Upwards, Nick:
Music never needed in running videos if you ask me. The sweet melody of feet hitting the ground over and over is 👌
Facts
Feels far more real
Yeah
Facts.
👍🏼
Great pace.. I just hit a new PB at 17:11 at the weekend.. Watching videos like this motivates me to keep trying to go faster. Nice one
Congratulations to your new PB, Matt 🥳👍
Congrats!! Sub 17 next. LET’S GOOOOO!
Grats! I just broke 20 mins this weekend. His previous 5k video inspired me and I was replaying some of his thoughts in my head during the run. That was a big help for me!
How many year you have trained
I couldn't believe how fast the guy in hoops was, seeing as he had more of a rugby player's build. I wasn't that surprised that he pulled out early.
that's Kristian Blummenfelt
In the period of almost a year I went from couch to running regularly (thanks, diabetes). Not to mention how difficult it was in the beginning (started with walking, and my first 5k was somewhere around the 40-minute mark). Since then, with persistence and going through different training plans, I ran my current 5k PB about a month and a half ago which is 22:36 (please note that this time was set while following the "5k in sub-24" plan). Tomorrow, I'll run another time trial (as the crown of the mentioned plan) trying to go sub 22:00. It's gonna be challenging, but I'm up for that. No matter the result, I'm gonna start a new training block on Monday and see where it takes me next. 😊
Update: I set a new PB clocking at 19:53 min/km. Beyond stoked! 🙂
Great job on setting your new PB, amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it! Can you recommend any 5k plans you are following?
How goods the wobbly legs after and satisfaction of hard work. Nice job!
Congrats!!
Love these videos Nick. Just oldschool raw feet hitting the ground full send. Unreal. Love the positive narrations 👌
Great running and excellent camera work too! Was hoping to go sub 15 min too, but then woke up and realised it wasn't possible for someone in their 60s with MS. Nevertheless, sub 21 is my target, which should be doable 🙂
Well done that's a great time MS is or not, keep moving
I'm just finishing the Couch to 5k app and its amazing to think you are running 2x the speed I am. Just shows you where hard work and consistent training gets you. Very inspiring!
Nick is a legend!!.. 🎉🎉🎉
I started running via couch to 5k in October last year and was able to run just under 30 mins to start with - I went to a 5K event on Friday and ran 22.53 as a new PB - The elite male winner ran 14.53 and it was insane to watch that live - I know I will never run that fast, I am 42 now and not built to reach those levels, but what I have managed in 10 months shows that as Nick says, you definitely get out what you put in - Enjoy your running journey - It's awesome :)
@@jamespeters5043 that's amazing progress well done! Thank you 😊
@joel9064 my advice, get hooked on parkrun and you won't look back 👍
Massive shoutout to your better half for the amazing footage. It really feels like you’re there!!! ❤
I love these, explaining what’s going on through your head helps me on my next run when I’ve reached my limit
Go tap into those extra reserves champ!! 👊🏻
@@justalilbester thank you 😊
Great advice I did 21.38 Saturday PB at 59 years of age.
This was great! I just ran my first 5K and was pretty entertained by my thoughts during the run. I had someone right behind me for a while, and it definitely was a motivator not to slow down. Then at the end of the race, I was by myself, and I wish I had had something to chase. I am new to running, but after running that first race I am so pumped to keep going!
I love these videos because it’s exactly what goes through my mind as well.. only difference is that I slow down and you don’t!! Really gives me the confidence to know that it’s all in my head and I CAN DO IT!! 💪🏼😃
Congratulations Nick.
5k suffered and well done.
There is no excuse, you gave it your all.
after a workout in the morning. what can you ask for?
Congratulations also to Amy.
....from a follower of Seville
I absolutely love these videos
This is some incredible pace and effort. Fantastic job as always, Bester. Videos simply don't do justice to how fast you really are.
As a Singaporean, I was also pleased to see Soh at the start, who ended up finishing third!
Well done Nick! Excellent consistent pacing all the way. And on tired legs! Impressive 💪💪
Awesome video - thank you! So inspiring to see a bigger lad like myself (80 kg and 1.87 m) smashing the 15 min button. Keep up the hard work - there is no substitute! LET’S GOOOO!
Vid so much better without music, good work lad, im training for a 1:25 half marathon at the moment and taking inspiration from your vids
Really love this kind of video
Incredible pace. Well done Nick.
Awesome mentality and great form!!! Keep it up man
Well done Nick, very inspiring, Amy was very encouraging and I loved her "Woop's" ! 😁
That big fella has the quads of a bodybuilder 😂. Yet lightning
I don't know man, why would someone enter a race specifically to go too fast and then not finish? Like I get it if he got a stitch or cramp or something, but going in with the purpose of not finishing seems off
Not sure you would go on with purpose of not finishing but going in near suicidal and then aiming to just hold on to the finish is how I've got most of my 5k PBs. I reached 195 in my heart rate the previous one at age 33 which is the highest I've ever recorded. It hurts but it can be a really good way to ensure you gave it your all.
@@nath9091 wow! I feel like death if my heart rate is nearing 180... I think I would have effectively died before reaching 193
That is some incredible running I have only just started my running journey but am striving to be as quick as this. Currently my PB for 5k is 18mins
Excellent! Beautiful job on the sound - the voice-over and live sound quality and balance. Great and inspiring commentary. Kudos to the camera person on the bike. And a super fast run - congrats!
I was going to say the early leader didn't have the typical build of a distance runner, but had a great stride. I wasn't entirely surprised when he dropped out. I wonder what his background is.
Insane forward lean on him too. His legs look built for short/middle distance.
He looks like a fly half
Got a race this Sunday and I'm already sweating and my hr is going up watching this. Great video Nick!
Such great footage! Kudos to Amy for filming that so well! Pro composure on the camera. I was shocked that the leader of lap 1 was going so quickly - his running form, to me, looked very inefficient. Just goes to show that you can never really tell for certain who will be quick (like Paula Radcliffe's running form). My guess was that the tall leader from the start (with the excellent running stride) would be there in the leading pack all the way. Endurance is so important, too, as is pacing yourself and tactics.
Great run and awesome footage (and support). Lovely stuff!!👏👏👏🏃♂️
Great video, excellent running-awesome that you did this on top of a morning session. Fascinating to hear your thought processes. Well done also to Amy on photo/coach duty. I think the 'full send' phrase is etched in my mind now
Nick, i never thought Id see a runner that makes YOU look small! Cheers!
Love this style of video Nick. Bring on more!
Great race, Nick! Please keep these videos coming!!!
The field is insanely competitive for a local race! Maybe we are just out of shape here in Florida 😂
I'm out of breath just by watching this 🤣.. Superb race man. 💪
Love this type of video please do more! Truly inspiring, keep it up man!
Your running posture makes it seem as if you're running slower than actual. Great run, keep it up
You're a beast, dude! Great filming too. So fun to watch this up close and personal. I had a feeling that dude was gonna fade hard because it looked to me like he was really reaching with his strides. Didn't expect him to drop out though, lol.
Yeah...and he has thick legs and the boss haircut..I thought he's going to blow up hard 😂
@@kevalincowri586 haha you ain't right
very nice. would love to see this kind of vid for a 10k race :P obviously with some fast-forwarding
Thank you for sharing this great effort. RESPECT!!!
Love these videos. Incredible mental toughness again
My favourite kind of videos from you!
What a Legend 🙌 👏
Amazing. I can’t believe you did this in such quick time. It takes me 30 minutes to run 5K and it’s mentally brutal haha.
Congratulations 🎊 and I really enjoy you running 🏃♂️ timings is wonderful perfect carry on...!
well done - your upper body - in particular your arms and hands especially - are TENSE - you are wasting a LOT of energy in your arms and clenching your fists - for such a short distance it will not have much impact but for longer distances it is wasted energy that could be used in your legs - TRY to rotate your hands PARALLEL to the ground rather than your body - and let your wrist go loose and consciously do NOT clench your hand - expand it and let it rock back and forth loosely through wrist - expend NO energy in your hands - your elbows are also very tense - loosen them up and let them swing gently rocking with your momentum - these two corrected will reduce a lot of the tensions in your shoulders and upper body saving you precious energy - your upper body dictates what your lower body is doing - so FOCUS on improving your upper body kinematics and RELAX RELAX RELAX - you should also be LIMP in your upper body - your HANDS will act as guides for your forward motion - so rather than UP and DOWN - have them go FORTH and BACK - try it - look at this video - you are super tense in your upper body
Great video! Love this commentary. Great running!
loves these videos absolutely amazing
Wow that's the stuff 👍 great run , I'll need to call on all my reserves at the weekend and just try and keep pushing , I'm chasing a sub 40 10k.
Let’s GOOOOOO
Full sends only!! 👊🏻
Boooooooomshakalllaaakkka!!.... Never in doubt you'd win that race but it was great watching an listening too you... 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🥳🥳🥳x
Well done Nick! Your running technique looked better at the end of the run than it did at the start - is this one of the things you have been working on?
Yes for sure. Weekly drills 🙌🏻 I’ll share them in next weeks vlog
@@justalilbester Good stuff mate. Looking forward to the video👍
apparently 3rd place was the singaporean national record... what a run
What a cool video. Enjoy this boet. Well done on the race. Your a machine
Great run, great pace, even greater socks 👍😀
Excellent run, given the morning session and mileage in your legs
strong, impressive, inspiring running....
i dont want to sound rude but you could just tell the guy who had early lead didnt have it in him. that pace looked way too hard for the way he looked. Where as Nick looked comfortable and strong!
Great job!!
Thanks mate! 👊🏻
Wow, what a pace. Working on my sub 20 min, but my park run has steep up hill. Last time did 20.04 so close.
Another Great Run/Race, Another Great video! Well done Champ!
Berlin will be smashed! 💯
Let's go!! 🔵👊🏻⚪️
So well done!
Great video i am glad you did not put a spoiler in the title.
Absolute beast 🔥💪🏼

Soh Rui Yong came in third 🎉 He was wearing the green under armour singlet.
Oh my god, that little adios pro 3 cute squeak, sounded like a tiny kitten xD
You were hauling. Nice work!
Excellent
Such a beast!
Great job with the 🎥. What do you do when your breathing too hard? Slow pace down or take deep breaths?
Great job
Bester you Biscuit!!
Very impressive as usuall. I see you are using the Adios pro 3 and I have one question for you if you dont mind. When im out on my long runs in my own pair the laces is leaving abit of shafing on top of the foot right where the knot is. Is it something you’ve experienced or you have any advice how to avoid it in the future? I love everything about the shoe otherwise. Keep givning us great content and good luck in Berlin!
I've never heard the point about surging in the corners before. Is this supposed to actually make the times faster or a tactic for getting better placing?
Im no elite runner, but I like to use corners as they can almost slingshot you a bit further
not fare of sub 15 mate great running lets goooo!
What a beast, even Singapore’s national record holder dont stand a chance against you 😂😂
Yeeeeaahhh buddy!
how did you guys even do sub 20 mins ? incredibly hard feat to achieve
You could kind of tell that the frontrunner wasn't going to last. The way he was moving his arms made it seem as though there was something really wrong with his stride.
Nice one!
What’s your cadence nick. It seem fast and your leg swing seem tough it didn’t push back much but very relaxing I’m very interested
Very good. What's your average stride length here?
Random fact: the 3rd place male broke the Singaporean 5k record here
Now that’s inspiring. Thanks for no music.
Let's gooo
Rui yong soh is the singapore athlete is behind you???
What shoes did you wear on this race? Adios Pro? Is that good for short race? I heard its good for marathon
Nick, what workouts do you do to increase stride length?
Why the f##k did your man pull out half way? Tbh he looked more like 17min runner but im probably wrong😂. You see that in races every weekend lads go out first 1-2k all blazing then completly blow up
I know right! I was so keen to have something to chase 💔 I was heart broken when he pulled out!!
@@justalilbester i know it would of been easier to chase. That guy although he blew up still must have talent . If he had of stead behind a bit for 3k he would of got gr8 time
Are you South African by the way🇿🇦
How stride length
...you did not invite any Kenyans? Nice race, I will be on a 5 KM race this Saturday in Mombasa kenya, you welcome!
🎉🎉🎉
What shoe are u wearing ?
👍
Love these videos Nick, great job by Amy too
