I'm not saying this to stick up for Simmons and Stanley but, what you need to understand is they were under a recording contract with Mercury. They were required to record and release "X" amount of albums by a certain time. By the time they found out Eric was sick, they were already in pre-production. They knew they only had Bob Ezrin for a certain amount of time. If Gene and Paul failed to produce on their end of the contract they signed, it could've costed them millions because of a potential breach in contract. I don't believe they wanted to start without Eric, but they had no choice. Yes, I'm quite sure they knew it was going to hurt his feelings, but they didn't do it to hurt him. I'm under contact now and my contract states I must deliver my next album by 2018. It's business. It wasn't personal. Either way, the world lost an amazing person and a talented drummer. I guarantee you Gene and Paul beat themselves up for doing what they had to do against doing what should have been done. I'm sure a clause in their record contract could've been worked out.
It's sad that neither Simmons, nor Stanley have accompanied him in his final, Eric Carr who gave so much to KISS, rest in peace beloved Eric Carr, your fans do not forget you 🌼🙏

That's a pretty crappy move. Like someone else commented, Def Leppard waited 4 years for Rick Allen to learn to drum with one arm but Kiss couldn't wait out Eric's illness before deciding what to do? No wonder he is on record as saying he always felt like he was going to be replaced. Eric was partly responsible for the band's resurgence, he deserved better than what Gene and Paul did to him.

I returned to this comment upon someone liking it...and I watched this again...It just seems like Eric, who I know loved KISS (even before being a member) When someone is faced with the situation such as a life threating thing such as his cancer was...how could you pull the rug out from under the dude? There was nothing anyone could have done to alter the inevitable outcome. If you've read PSs book, check out pages 253,254,255. EC is quoted in a few light hearted gaffe moments referring to himself as such. Pg 253, "Eric wore a brand-new white suit to dinner. His first. Not ten minutes into the night, he spilled a huge glass of red wine all over it. At times like that he would close his eyes and mutter, "What a schmuck."" It was ECs self-deprecating humor. I don't think your being very fair comparing Def Leppard's situation to KISS and Eric. Def Leppard's members were long time friends who built that band up from the ground up and attained fame and success. KISS was established for 10 plus years and Eric was a replacement for a former original member. It seems unfair that they put their careers old complete hold while Eric seeks treatments and tries to get healthy. That could take years. That fact that they told him to get well then come back was best for both parties. Unfortunately Eric's illness didn't allow that.

Along with Eric Carr's passing, came the abrupt end to the 'Oringinal run' of Kiss' initial success from '73 to '90. I agree. Yes - we witnessed a great return for the original lineup in 1995. Something needed to return to normality after Eric Carr's passing but, as far as I am concerned, the origin of Kiss' success ceased on November 24th 1991. Thereafter, has just been a celebration of Kiss' previous success.

He was never fired.Paul said that,Gene said that.At that point in 1991 when they were doing pre-production for Revenge Eric Singer was only a session drummer [ like Mike Portnoy for A7X in Nightmare ] and after Eric [ Carr ] died they had no choice and replaced him with Eric Singer.
They were cut out because The KISS brand wanted to cut his health insurance. Read The Eric Carr biography. Very good book. The last 3rd is sad, but it's how things went down. Apparently the writer was a great friend of Eric's. Eric told him Ace is on Creatures, but just on some fills. Paul and Gene knock all former band members except Bruce and Eric Carr. Ace, Peter, Vinnie and Mark St. John all came and visited Eric several times. The biographer talks about how Ace tried to get a "lady" in to the hospital for Eric.
I feel sad for this situation, I can't help thinking about when Freddie Mercury and Queen had a similar situation, they went and recorded as much as was possible, rather than find a new singer etc. I feel the way that Paul and Gene talk about this is so detached and cold.

Can't sleep so I decided to troll through old videos and comments. A lot of comments below seem very unfair. Gene and Paul wanted him in the band. Cancer is extremely hard on the body. They just wanted Eric to focus on getting better because his place was secure. They didn't want to cause more harm to Eric. Paul and Gene made sure he wanted for NOTHING. Unfortunately, KISS was under contract and they HAD to move forward. Paul have been consistent about always expecting Eric to return. Eric was awesome.

He was never fired.Paul said that,Gene said that.At that point in 1991 when they were doing pre-production for Revenge Eric Singer was only a session drummer [ like Mike Portnoy for A7X in Nightmare ] and after Eric [ Carr ] died they had no choice and replaced him with Eric Singer.

They were cut out because The KISS brand wanted to cut his health insurance. Read The Eric Carr biography. Very good book. The last 3rd is sad, but it's how things went down. Apparently the writer was a great friend of Eric's. Eric told him Ace is on Creatures, but just on some fills. Paul and Gene knock all former band members except Bruce and Eric Carr. Ace, Peter, Vinnie and Mark St. John all came and visited Eric several times. The biographer talks about how Ace tried to get a "lady" in to the hospital for Eric.
RIP Eric..saw Kiss with Bruce and Eric back in '88 in Memphis Tn. ..Mid South Coliseum..they were awesome!
I feel sad for this situation, I can't help thinking about when Freddie Mercury and Queen had a similar situation, they went and recorded as much as was possible, rather than find a new singer etc. I feel the way that Paul and Gene talk about this is so detached and cold.

Can't sleep so I decided to troll through old videos and comments. A lot of comments below seem very unfair. Gene and Paul wanted him in the band. Cancer is extremely hard on the body. They just wanted Eric to focus on getting better because his place was secure. They didn't want to cause more harm to Eric. Paul and Gene made sure he wanted for NOTHING. Unfortunately, KISS was under contract and they HAD to move forward. Paul have been consistent about always expecting Eric to return. Eric was awesome.
I believe all the stress Gene and especially Paul gave Eric caused his illness. I really do.

I just don't understand these guys. I think Eric Carr knew that he didn't have a long time to live and he wanted to do as much as he could before he died yet Gene and Paul couldn't see this? They knew Eric's chances of surviving were slim, why the hell did they not go out of their way to do as much as they could humanly possibly do with him? Ace, in a convention he did in Florida in '93 talked of a phone conversation he had with Eric before he died where Eric was in tears about being unceremoniously kicked from the band. Seriously, this justification of mental abuse on these two clowns' parts make me so angry with them about how they treated Eric Carr and his illness. What a pathetic bunch of apathetic, childish narcissists that can't handle reality and mortality that they couldn't do Eric the one favor of letting him do all that he could do with the band before he died.

Geddy and Alex of Rush waited 5 years for Neil Peart in the wake of Neil's personal tragedies (death of daughter and wife). The reaction of Paul and Gene is the legacy of Paul and Gene. Eric would have died anyway, so why not wait, allow him to die as a member of the band? But not these two guys. Their greed and selfishness outweighed everything else.
