Jesse's career has blossomed and grown so big since FNL. It's truly incredible thinking about the longevity of his career. Kudos to him. It was awesome hearing from him
I'm 80 years old. I watched every episode of FNLs twice. The emotion throughout the show felt real. It took me back to the 50s when I played football for a small school in western New York. As a former actor and director, myself, you guys were so fortunate to have this experience. A tip of the hat to the directors for creating such a unique acting environment. I've watched three episodes of the podcast. My only suggestion is to bring on one person each Thursday who knows theatre but was not a part of FNLs. I would like to hear both sides of the coin.
To this day, if my dad or I want to make the other person laugh, we will yell out "Lance!" suddenly, loudly, and with no context given... and we will completely crack up while everyone else around us (especially those outside of our immediate family) will stare at us and wonder what happened. This episode with Jesse is the one I've most been looking forward to, and I thank you for giving this gift to us!
man i really hope you guys bring this podcast back. i was so excited to see you all getting back together for this. brought me back so much nostalgia. FNL is one of my favorite shows of all time i used to watch every episode when it released every friday with my mom from when i was 7 years old to 12 years old. i'm 25 now so seeing this makes me really happy. hope yall can continue someday.
32:08 Funny how Zach is explaining how difficult it is to be able to act and sit down in a Star Trek chair and say “Warp Speed Ahead” and have people buy it without it being cheesy to Jesse Plemons, who ACTUALLY did that in the excellent BLACK MIRROR episode “USS Callister” where he acted the the shit out of playing a “Star Trek” inspired captain is HILARIOUS. Jesse, “Fer SURE!” So humble
I pretty much love all of Jesse's work. The Landry character was priceless. iconic and unforgettable, but I really enjoyed his work in the second season of Fargo. All the other work he's done, on both the small and big screen has been really great but is a clear statement on how great and versatile actor he really is. Also, the combination of Jessie and Adrianne will stand for quite some time to come.
I loved this episode! It was so fun to see how much you guys were enjoying getting to talk about your shared experiences! Honestly, every time y'all comment that the episode is too long, I heartily disagree. I love the ones that are a bit longer, because it seems like you get to have a more complete conversation, without worrying so much about time. Also, I know y'all are reading these comments, because you're getting so much better at not interrupting each other as the podcast goes on! 🤣 Jesse was a fantastic guest! Love that he wanted to jump in on a commentary episode.
All the characters in this show, even though a lot of them being new to the industry, truly did an amazing job! Jesse, is truly a unique actor, there is just something about him that I never have seen in an actor before, I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly, but he’s just so good at what he does! The scenes with Landry and Tyra were really wonderful and man this episode definitely had me in tears! Thanks so much for having him on! 🙌❤️✨
💥💢Petition to get Jesse on the episode recaps more often. This was simply amazing. Jesse is such a quiet force...yet has zero pretension about himself. This episode could have been 2 hours and it wouldn't have been enough. Loved seeing all of you guys back together.
I love jesse plemons ❤❤ he has such a zen about him. He's a great actor... beautiful soul. Excited to see what other projects he will be doing in the future.
The murder itself wasn’t SO far-fetched, but the cover up was. But to do it right the “recovery” would have consumed Landry for the rest of the seasons. So it was indeed a bad idea.
I love that Jessie mentioned the music in the show because I discovered that Pearl Jam song (come back) they played when Riggins & Lyla first kissed on the side of the road then that song (if I could) they played on the way home from Mexico when Riggins, Lyla & Jason were dancing in that cantina. Perfect song choices.
Jesse has grown into a fantastic actor! I just got done watching Love & Death on HBO and he was awesome! My favorite Landry episode is The Giving Tree.
I happy they fixed the sound problem. My favorite Landry episode is Season 4, Episode 13, which is my favorite episode of Season 4. I can't wait when we get there. Jesse played that character with great wit, and to handle with the murder, shows who what a great actor Jesse is. He made me laugh so much in Game Night.
I may be the only person who hasn’t watched the full show yet. I had only watched the first season when this podcast started and am now watching one episode each week and listening to the podcast right after.
Jesse Plemons and Adrienne Palicki are the real deal for killing it (literally) with the acting during the murder scene. Murder aside, I have a Swede question: do you think the writers would have still had Julie go after the Swede if coach Taylor hadn’t left town? I still empathized with Julie during that whole debacle because she was going through it with her dad being gone, but I don’t know if I would have empathized had coach T stayed in Dillon.
I don't think she would have tbh, the swede thing felt more out of desperation due to her feeling like everything around her was out of control. she wanted to regain control and have something for herself. her dad left, basically taking away that family structure of support she really did rely on in s1 (even in terms of her relationship with Matt), and I imagine her and Tami got on each other's nerves through the pregnancy with Eric not around. The one thing though is I still feel like Matt and Julie might have drifted apart, because I feel that had more to do with the repercussions of winning state and Matt being elevated into this more cliche QB star, going to parties, maybe taking Julie for granted in some ways. even with the swede present, Matt was so incredibly passive about him and Julie that he would need a wake up call with or without that guy around abt the state of their relationship and fixing it
You guys never talk about Season 4 & 5, also really great seasons, where Coach Taylor basically turned around the lives of an entire football team. Zach & Jesse were in these seasons and Scott also made appearances.
A few takeaways: 1) Connie is hands down the MVP of Bad Ideas; 2) I'm tickled that no one mentioned that Carlotta is introduced in this episode. One thing that stood out to me is that homegirl is like a bull in a china shop. No way she could act like that and still keep a job. (I really wish that character would've been quieter and more introspective. I may have bought her and Matt more); 3) DEVIN AND THE SWEDE ARE MARRIED!!! Wish Aimee was here for that reveal. and 4) I hope Jesse comes back.
yea I did not like carlotta, felt like the romance was just unnecessary and she was a wish fulfillment character rather than a fleshed out person (basically a complete latina stereotype)
If someone would have asked you in 2011 when Friday Night Lights ended, who of the young actors would go on to have the best career -- and many of them have done some impressive things -- how many of us would have said Landry (Jesse Plemmons) would be the one racking up Emmy and Oscar nods?
He was the best of the young actors. I wouldn't have necessarily picked him to be a "star"-for that I would have picked Taylor Kitsch-but Plemons is the one I thought was the most talented as an actor and who I wished would have success.
This is so fantastic! I love you guys and your work so much 🙏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👋🏼 My favorite show of all time, for sure! I wish Y'all nothing but the best goin' forward in your careers, and you have a fan here for life, brothers!
Haha I was not expecting Zach to be wearing that tiger king sweater/jacket still. I thought it was a joke but I love it! Also I went on instagram to see Devin IG to see her wedding post to the Swede. 😂 it’s true they are married…crazy!!
I have a question for Scott and Zach: What was your best and worst scene you have shoot, and which scene (of other characters) you wished that you have shoot?
What a gift this episode is!!! I hope you can get other cast members to do the recaps. Loved it. Who would you say from the cast is the most LIKE their character?
The murder storyline worked fine for me. Sure, it’s a little implausible, but I still enjoyed it (and season 2 as a whole). They made the most out of the situation.
Just started watching this show and it’s honestly really great but really surprised by the talent in the show and how many turned out to have really great careers. I didn’t know Plemons was in the show. I knew Kyle Chandler was but didn’t know Plemons probably started his career with this show. Great heartfelt show that is a rarity nowadays for my opinion.
Love this podcast and the interviews! Though I fully support the reason for the strike, we need to get you guys & gal (Mae) back! Love the success that the cast has achieved! Kudos to you all!
I was always resentful against Tyra for ruining the positive relationship Landry and that sort of smart, nerdy girl (Jean?) had. Things were going well but Landry breaks up with her to date Tyra
Landry didn't start the fight when Dillon and East Dillon get together. He started the cafeteria fight when Larraby had to share the school with Dillon after the Tornado tore through Larraby in Season two.
First off ... it wasn't murder. It was self defense/defense of another. Secondly, Tyra told Landry to man up because he needed to. The man was trying to rape her. Repeatedly. He had to go. While I understand some remorse, as I'm sure it's not easy taking another life no matter the circumstances, his guilt was a little out of proportion, and his behavior was probably even guilting Tyra into thinking they did the wrong thing when they didn't.
I love that Jesse chose to do an episode breakdown rather than just an interview
Jesse's career has blossomed and grown so big since FNL. It's truly incredible thinking about the longevity of his career. Kudos to him. It was awesome hearing from him
He's turning into Phillip Seymour-Hoffman, in terms of his range. I'm weirdly proud of him.
Getting Jesse Plemons on to talk about the worst storyline of the show is both diabolical and genius on Jesse’s part
Because of writers strike
It was the worst, as in the most unrealistic, but in some ways it was a cool fantasy.
I'm 80 years old. I watched every episode of FNLs twice. The emotion throughout the show felt real. It took me back to the 50s when I played football for a small school in western New York. Jesse is just so serious with his answers. Thinks everything through. Not surprising the heights his career has reached.
Not to be the superficial one but Jesse ages like a damn fine wine. 😮💨
My favorite Black Mirror episode!
Jesse Plemons has become an A list star. Amazing
He’s been in A list movies, sure. Does that make him an A list star? No.
Chemistry is so real, great show and there's been nothing like it
This was incredible. There is a group of middle aged New Zealanders that are loving this.
It’s incredible who Jesse became in Hollywood. His a huge actor and is just a few movies away from his first Oscar. Well deserved
I love the actor who played Landry's dad (Glen Morshower), it's PERFECT casting. I'd seen him as an actor for many years before FNL.
Who needs sound when we have Zach's jacket?
So happy to have just discovered..and subscribed to this. FNL will Always be an American Classic. I loved every second of every season. Thank you.
I did not mean not to watch this whole podcast, but it's just like FNL. Once I start, it's hard to stop.
I pretty much love all of Jesse's work. The Landry character was priceless. iconic and unforgettable, but I really enjoyed his work in the second season of Fargo. What a great episode. I could listen to all of you for hours. Jesse does an amazing job as Landry.
jesse has done so much in hollywood I'm actually shocked he came to do this. def legitamizes the pod
Jesse seems like a chill guy

Omg love Lance!! Favorite character of show❤

Great episode, need to bring him back. the recap with guest needs to happen more often.
I love jesse plemons ❤❤ he has such a zen about him. He's a great actor... beautiful soul. Excited to see what other projects he will be doing in the future.

That's music supervisor Liza Richardson doing the FNL music selections. She is very talented. Used to dj regularly on kcrw.
Jesse has grown into a fantastic actor! I just got done watching Love & Death on HBO and he was awesome! My favorite Landry episode is The Giving Tree.

Maybe, the family destabilisation certainly weighted the scales that way.

I want a part 2! Lance!!😂 🔥
An amazing and informative episode!!
You guys never talk about Season 4 & 5, also really great seasons, where Coach Taylor basically turned around the lives of an entire football team. Zach & Jesse were in these seasons and Scott also made appearances.
Scott might not remember this. But he did work a scene with Michael B. Jordan. Jason was giving advice to Vince and hid dad.
Damn im surprised they got jesse for this. I didn't think it would happen because of his popularity now. I thought he'd be too busy for it
Plemons was also the kid in the Blue Bell ice cream commercials from my youth. Texas Forever.
He is looking in great shape again, really glad for Jesse and his life and career.
Correction. Best line of the episode was Antwone saying "Hey step off. That little white boy's got soul." 🤣 Gets me everytime. Hahaha
If someone would have asked you in 2011 when Friday Night Lights ended, who of the young actors would go on to have the best career -- and many of them have done some impressive things -- how many of us would have said Landry (Jesse Plemmons) would be the one racking up Emmy and Oscar nods?
Nah i think many would predict plemons to be a star. He was already in some big prod project by then
He was the best of the young actors. I wouldn't have necessarily picked him to be a "star"-for that I would have picked Taylor Kitsch-but Plemons is the one I thought was the most talented as an actor and who I wished would have success.
This is so fantastic! I love you guys and your work so much 🙏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👋🏼
My favorite show of all time, for sure!
I wish Y'all nothing but the best goin' forward in your careers, and you have a fan here for life, brothers!
Had no idea this was a podcast. Definitely gonna watch this as often as I can!
Haha I was not expecting Zach to be wearing that tiger king sweater/jacket still. I thought it was a joke but I love it! Also I went on instagram to see Devin IG to see her wedding post to the Swede. 😂 it’s true they are married…crazy!!
great episode! any chance jeremy sumpter will come on?
Don't worry about the length we will keep listening great episode
Best episode yet! I’m also pissed that the Tammy Taylor bikini scene never happened.
It was up, but it had no sound. Maybe they are fixing it.
I have a question for Scott and Zach:
What was your best and worst scene you have shoot, and which scene (of other characters) you wished that you have shoot?
Please bring Jesse back! Loved this. Would also loved to have Mae here too!
What a gift this episode is!!! I hope you can get other cast members to do the recaps. Loved it.
Who would you say from the cast is the most LIKE their character?
Zach’s hoodie for the W.

This easily could’ve been 3 hours
God I love Scott Porter.
Landry getting his real life Tyra in Kirsten Dunst....nice!
Awww
Love this podcast and the interviews! Though I fully support the reason for the strike, we need to get you guys & gal (Mae) back! Love the success that the cast has achieved! Kudos to you all!
Love love Friday Night Lights. Loved this!
I was always resentful against Tyra for ruining the positive relationship Landry and that sort of smart, nerdy girl (Jean?) had. Things were going well but Landry breaks up with her to date Tyra
Great show! Love Jesse and yall
Catching up on the podcast episodes with costars sooo here for this!
Landry is such a goated character in this show 🐐
I see your Blastoise and Scorbunny stickers Scott 😉
Yay it got fixed!! 👍❤️
Yeah sound is back!
I loved this!
Season 4 east against the panthers, they messed up as well 😂 panthers wore different jerseys in back to back to back scenes 😂
Happy Speak Now (Taylor's Version) release day, Zac! Mr. Ours 😭💜🪖🎖️
Sound is fixed 😊

What sort of Quarterback are you?
Iknew jesse plemons was an athlete when in season 4 the east dillon lions played the city kids and landry threw that dart on the reverse 😂
Laundry grew into himself nicely! Looks like a hipster Matt Damon!
Jesse was great in that mob movie starring John Depp
Blew my mind to learn the swede is Shakey Graves. I know his music, just had never seen his face.
Where is my lance merch?!?!?
Oh this is amazing
where does Zach gets his cap and jacket tho 😂😂😂
Was "Lance" an ad lib or scripted?
Lance was great!
refresh hoping and refreshing lol
I would like to hear about how they were going to work out season 2. I had my wife watch the series a few years ago and she was like "WHAT THE F&%K??"
Why do they never bring up Jesse’s greatest athletic role? Beating Calvin Cambridge in Like Mike!
Landry??? Thought he was Lance!!!
Get Taylor on!!!
The murder storyline was bizarre.
It says I can’t watch?
We are good now!!
his best role was on breaking bad
I wanted to hear more from Jesse....but Scott talked a bit too much 😂😂😂
Lance us the best xD
It has sound now! Thx y'all!
Is this pod still producing new content
it's killer..... see what I did there? Landry!!!!
Lance!!!!
yAY!!!!!
Jesse p is funny
