My parents used some travellers to block pave their driveway 4 years ago, they were fantastic and the drive is as good as it was 4 years ago today so there are good companies and bad companies everywhere.
I had my driveway done by travellers 15 years ago and they used Tobermore pavers which are expensive, they also done 3 of my neighbours. Don’t paint everyone with the same brush.

True story a electrician from Southall in London met some travellers and they paid him to do some electricians work just say at the time it was £150 a day rate they pay him £200 a day and told him they had mountains of work available in Manchester with free on-site accommodation everyone said to him don't go up there it's a con they are up to something he went up there stayed in a caravan on a traveller site after 1 weeks work they gave him £1,000 and drove him back to London than they said to him get some of your electrician mates on board so a group of electricians what up after 1 weeks work at the end of the day on the Friday they went to the pub for a couple of drinks when they got back to their caravan all of their tools have been nicked including their clothes other than one jacket that was left in the caravan with human faeces on it they said get your jacket and leave making him take the coat with him so basically for a Grand the Travellers got all of their work tools all of their clothes a full weeks work free from 4 electricians my mate had to phone his Dad and ask him to pick him up right away as the the Travellers had become aggressive

Saw a great one where travellers went on a farmers land ,so he drove his tractor round the caravans and sprayed slurry all round them .They were gone in no time .He Stunk them out.
We were working on a property and we observed a pair of these " creature's" painting this elderly lady's roof, it was pouring with rain & they were using indoor cheap emulsion. It was going everywhere! All over the brickwork, gutters and drainpipes, the lady was concerned and I was astonished when they said it was " waterproof roofing paint " we had to intervene because they wouldn't leave her alone , she was extremely distressed, we called the police & to them come quicker my colleague mentioned something, She was going to give them her credit card, pin just to get them to go . Turns out her husband only passed away the previous month... she was in hell of a state. I shall never forget that day, They had a creature like this thing in the video with them, it tried to break into our lorry in full view of us ! ( We we're up on staging) This urchin thing must have been only about 10 years! The sad fact is that they go on to breed.. causing stress on our financial & healthcare services due to disabilities that come with being inbred. It should be illegal...

Legal reasons. You pay and then go to trading standards or a small claims court if you feel you've been duped. If you withhold payment, you're legally up the creek and the rogue can then sue you.

Business to business is complex, but business to consumer greatly favour's the consumer who are cover under the consumer rights act. Any defective work, or sub-standard work doesn't have to be paid for until installed to an unacceptable standard. I've been through this many times myself. Therefore, I do not understand why these rogue outfits were paid. The lesson would've been to expose them on TV with solid evidence to hand, then not pay them. Baffling stuff!

The second job - Well, they just took his money, pulled up the old job leaving rubble all over the place and moon lighted leaving both his front and rear garden totally uprooted like a building site - The irony is my brother and his mates were landscapers and very good at it - But Pete must attract Paul because he gave no credence to me suggesting decent people to him that would do a decent job.
