If anyone can't see thickness try these two methods: 1. Enable thick textured surface (Alt 1) 2. Click on the fabric you created > Property Editor > Material > Side (its a tab) > Untick 'use same material as front' > Set color to anything you like
This way it was giving me errors but I managed to correct it. How did I do it? Same as Andres but in another oden (Marvelous 10). First with Alt1 I activated the thickness, then I created a rectangle, without applying (important) the texture of the buckle, with the default material I added the thickness, I went to the side tab and deactivated use the same material and changed the colour, then when the colour was visible in the viewer I applied the texture to the front face. I don't know if it's a bug of marvelous 10 but if you apply the texture before modifying the colour of the side it looks transparent.
@@R-Killian you gotta set the front color as white before applying the buckle texture again, the sides will remain black. It took me 2 hours to discover it, I fucking hate marvelous designer.
Very nice tutorial! The buckle mentioned at 2:37 is not a ladder lock but a triglide. Most often the webbing is threaded through, not sewn to be used as a length adjuster. A ladder lock has a third slot and has "teeth" molded into it to grip the webbing and thus "lock" an adjustment. They're kind of tricky to thread! I work for a company that makes many different straps for cameras, musical instruments, and warehouse fulfillment centers, and am needing to create animated tutorials for some of our products which is how I happened to come across your tutorial. Great job!
Thank you for the tutorial, it's genius! I don't know why, but when I do the same and try to change thickness of the fabric, nothing happens :( did soeone have same problem?
Thanks Yulia! it might be that the viewport display mode you're in isn't showing material thickness, you can change this by selecting the icon "Thick Textured Surface" or (Alt+1). You might also need to change the texture on the material from "Side" back to default and choose a color for the thickness...hope that helps :))
just the tutorial I needed! One question: is there a reason to not thread the fabric through the slit of the buckle and then sow it onto itself, creating a loop? I want to use it for a cloth simulation in C4D.
1:25 using middle mouse button does not work in Marvelous Designer 12. I did everything you said and I can't get to a menu where it says CUT? What can I do to find this menu?
Hello, I love the tutorial. I have a problem, I do everything the same with the buckles but they look very soft and bend, and I don't know why but gravity is there and everything is fine, and when you move the straps they fly off as if there were no gravity.
awesome video! How do u get a piece of cloth to run simulation but NOT fall down? If I don't have an avatar , my cloth just falls to the ground, anyway to get it to stay put ( like float) but still be able to run simulation?
Hello, amazing video, I have a question, I did it all, but when simulating the fastex itself stretches, and does not keep the shape like you, what can I do ? the material is worth Trim_full_grain_leathre
Sorry for the question, I'm not fluent in English so I'm not sure if you said something like the video, but is it possible to resize after finishing the buckle/strap? I made it following the tutorial in another window, when I put it in the project I wanted it got too big, and when I try to resize it in the 2D view I lose all the seams 😩
Good video bro, which version of Marvelous Designer did you use 9 or 10, you already tried 9 and the thickness of the sheet doesn't work for me, what will it be?
Thank u sm for all the tutorials! Especially the beginner course :) I'm currently on my third day working with MD (Gonna subscribe to CLO3D after my trial ends) and omg all the things u make are just so cool!! I wish to master it as fast as possible cuz I really wanna open my own clothing brand with an own shop.. How long did it take for you to master everything? Any tips to master it? Thank you!!
Thanks! I think the learning curve for Marvelous Designer is a lot faster than typical 3D software so I would say you could master it within a few months of commitment to it, hope that helps :)
"front , back, side" for Fabric material configurate separately. Especialy Side. There remove texture and use simple black color with plastic as material. I dont know how it was in old versions of MD, but now sides buckle goes transparent and you need to make manipulation as I described above.
Hi! can anyone please help me, I'm trying to make the buckle but is when I try to enlarge it or reduce the size the texture won't follow, do you know how to fix this? thank you!!
Can you use any buckle reference from the internet (like a .jpeg or .png) or do you need to create a map? I saw that the buckle reference file you used had the word 'diffuse' next to it which I have only seen when I export UV maps. Also you seem to be using both a texture map and a normal map. Kinda confused. Could you help me out here? (I'm using CLO3D)
Dude - I use a .png of a buckle and try this same method and it doesn't work as well as yours - mainly, the buckle doesn't extrude like yours. I even tried the whole normal map thing but I think I'm missing the concept. Need help with this!
@@kevinkochiss3127 Awesome, yeah it also sometimes goes transparent depending on whether you're using a .Png or .Jpeg but changing the material to 'Side" should fix it :)
thanks, your viewport display mode probably isn't showing material thickness, you can change this by selecting the icon "Thick Textured Surface" or (Alt+1)
Thanks Katya! Yes these work great in a simulated animation too, the animation you see at the end was all simulated in MD :)) As long as you have an animated avatar they will simulate along with it.
@@veryveig AMAZING!!! I was only dreaming to animate with buckles and now I can! Thank you again! But in your animation I see there is not a ton of fabric movement, with is not so usual for MD animations. How did you achieve this effect? Usually the fabrics have a lot of movement, sometimes too much. Especially its not good when you animate with lots of small details and straps hanging. I hace subscribed to your IG too!

Hey for some reason I cannot get the 2nd method to work because I cannot set a random color without affecting the rest of the belt
@@taviux511 you need to delete texture from side and set black color

That looks great. I also really appreciated your clear explanation for exactly how you did it. Really nice job walking us through your process.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I struggled with keeping my straps on an OBJ buckle-- sewing it to the extrusion was game changer!

Somehow my buckle is still too soft and bending on the sides :( Any way to make it completely bend-free ?
The problem with this method is that the buckle will still deform and stretch when pulled around.
