@JustinBMcBride Great in depth video. My setup is far more spartan than this luxurious rig. I do like my Decked system it's perfect for what I do, and I also have the kitchen on the passenger's side drawer, but I utilized the boxes that came with mine to keep things a little more organized.
I mentioned this to Becki and Chris yesterday, but I have a decked for my Raptor and there is one big thing that happened to me, that I think every Decked owner should be aware of. Because of the design and the tolerances, stuff can shift inside the drawers (I think this is most important for us up in mountains where elevation pitch shifts weight constantly), and, if it shifts JUST right, it can wedge the contents up against the underside of the "floor", because of the horizontal beams structures that give the load capacity to the decked system itself. Think off the Tater smasher in the kitchen drawer - except 5-6' long and hundreds of pounds. I found this out getting ready to mount up for the Alpine Loop, with no cell service. I had my jack up towards the front of the drawer, as secure as I could make it (Pro Eagle does this too), and somehow...it shifted JUST right - pushing the divider up and under the storage box, which pinned itself against the underside of the floor, and the jack got JUST right against the bottom of the drawer, that it locked itself against the moulding dip. So when I went to open the drawer - tater smasher said nope. I was 1200 miles from home, all of my recovery gear and tools were in THAT drawer, and I had just finished airing down for the trail...guess what else was in that drawer? I spent an hour trying to do donuts, fast starts, hard stops, in the staging area to dislodge it. Nothing worked. I finally got angry enough that I hulked out and ended up breaking the lid of the box that was stuck, and was able to pull the drawer out. My advice and what I'll be doing in the future - take a ratchet and the making sockets for the exterior assembly bolts for the decked, so IF that happens to you - you can partially disassemble the flood/drawer faces to unstick the stuck. I got lucky, but I can't be the only one that has happened to.
Solid point. We’ll chalk that up to con #3.
Mine has gotten stuck too but not that bad . My jack sits on my rack under my rtt
Great idea on the tailgate seals, I'll have to try that. The bed also has some discrete (2) drains in the front of the bed and a couple of areas behind the wheel-wells inside the bed you may want to seal but I bet you already found them. I like that GoFast Camper.
I posted a video on UA-cam of a vent that I added to the side panel of my GFC to create positive pressure inside of the camper. I drove for hours in Badlands and there was zero dust in my camper. Made me nervous to cut into my camper, but it’s one of the best mods that I’ve done.
Oooh. I’ll have to check that out!
@@JustinBMcBride It’s definitely worth doing. I believe I put in the description what website I got it off of. I also have the Underland molle panel and I put a Camplux shower where you were talking about putting one. It’s a great spot for it.
Love your set up, gives me some wish list items for my build. The way your camper is set up with studio mode is so cool!
Have a spot to film myself away from the elements is a big deal. I need to figure out lens selection and mounting. This was with the 20mm 1.8 and it isn’t quite wide enough if I want to keep the camera inside the tent. I’ll play with the 16-35 next time I’m out, but I think it’s the better option.
Thank you for the video! Your content has inspired building an Overland Trailer along with outfitting my Silverado. Thank you and keep up the great videos!!
Glad to hear it!
I’ve been waiting for your GFC walkthrough video. Your set up is one of the simplest and might be the bests I’ve seen.
I am getting my GFC for my Gladiator at the end of the month. Can’t wait.
I really don't want to over do it. I like how easy it is to load up and roll out with this current setup.
Great video and walk around! I actually watched this while driving to Napa. So more so listened to it as a podcast. Winston is looking awesome! Very nicely done! Regarding merging the two channels together, that is a great idea. I often forget about the second channel and miss stuff there. But here, I will catch it all, and I think it will be nice to streamline it that way. Full support!
Thanks as always amigo!
I really like my Decked in my JT. I have an RSI SmartCap but now I wish I went with the go fast or alucab setup.
Nice setup!
Awesome Rig, man!! Really well thought out. I have been following GFC and Super Pacific for the past 9 months. My wife and I decided to check out both companies at the overland expo PNW last month. When we were about to pull the trigger to get the GFC, my sister-in-law dragged us to the Pack Out Campers booth. The wife was sold to gas strut assisted floors and how modular their camper was, and their No drill required accessories. The whole frame is extruded aluminum with endless possible mounting points. They seal the deal by showing us that you could mount your mountain bikes on both sides of the camper. I'm picturing how you would configure Pack Out campers.
I've had that power station in my Amazon wish list. Thanks for letting me know it was on sale with Prime Days. I just purchased through your link.
It’s treated me well! My wife reminded me that it’s the battery I’ve kept the longest, I’ve been using it on every trip for over a year.
Good stuff Justin!
Nice going, like it simple not too over the top.
Decked draws do look mega, like you say expensive but worth it.
Thanks
Keeping it easy and uncomplicated right now. I like it.
Thanks for the heads up on the Anker deal! Just snagged one
It’s a hell of a deal. Worth taking advantage of!
Love that setup! The GFC is on my bucket list for my Gladiator. 👍🏻
The Deckd storage are cool, but I really really like the half drawer storage option the Matt got for his gladiator… leaving the Fridge a bit lower.
I won’t own another truck without the Decked system in the bed. Great video man. Just subscribed.
Dude Winston is looking straight 🔥!!!! Awesome videos man keep it up Justin
Thanks! I’m really enjoying it.
Nice setup, Justin. Agree on the channel merge, FWIW. Keep the content coming, you're a very good creator and have a great presence while doing it. I always look forward to your videos.
Thanks! I appreciate it! It will be a lot less mental work to publish more regularly.
Great build, Justin. Regarding your dust proofing, if you look between the cab and the bed, you will see 2 holes near the top on both sides making 4 holes total. They are used for running wires into the box. You may want to block those too.
Once my Redarc is installed I will re-evaluate the dust proofing. I have plenty of wires to run still and don’t want to limit myself by blocking something.
I have a similar setup on my gladiator with the alu-cab. Recently installed the SHW offroad drawer system- night and day difference in space vs decked. A lot more money too.
Theirs is slick! @revereoverland loves his.
Haven't commented in awhile, but regardless looking good brother! Keep at it! I've watched since you did a month long of videos everyday. You're progress is truly awesome and to watch the evolution of the way you adventure has been cinematic and entertaining. Still enjoying your content to this day!
I tried a Decked system in my previous truck, a Chevy Colorado, but went with a Soft topper instead of a full on camper. I see how raising the floor was a main goal for you and it seems to work just fine for that! I didn't enjoy it as much. First off bed utilization and drawers opening I agree are cons, you can definitely get a lot in there, but there is wasted space throughout your floor if you need more storage. My biggest gripe ironically was your biggest win in regards to it. I did not like that my floor was raised about a foot up, I slept on the system with the topper and was having to inchworm to get in and out, not the funnest thing to do, but I feel if I went the full camper setup as you did, I would have desired the platform it provides.
I absolutely see why the Decked isn’t right for everyone. If I only had a topper and were using it as a bed I 100% wouldn’t have a decked.
Even then, as I plan a more involved camper build, I don’t see the Decked in that system. All of these extruded aluminum builds that I see everyone doing have me thinking of grander storage ideas.
Awesome Jeep Justin!!! Love your rig.
Thanks! 👍
Thanks Justin.
Thank you!
Love it Justin. ❤
Looks great !!!!!
Watched both. Would either way. Enjoy your content!
Awesome set up! What do you use on the other side of your desk to make it a bed?
I sleep on the desk. When it needs to be a full bed the GFC has two padded squares that fill in the gap.
Justin, great video as always. You are a talented YT'er and videographer, so don't sell yourself short. I have followed your channel for a few years (lost interest during the Bronco days… mostly because it felt too much like marketing). I love your "Just-In with Justin" gear reviews… and I have been a Step-22 fan due to your videos. Just get out there and shoot some videos with your Gladiator and life on the trail. Just my two cents…. tell "your" story. Cheers!!!
Excellent video dude. Just sold my decked last week. Whilst good if you want a made to fit no nonsense setup, it is heavy and wastes so much space. With the new camper coming I’m exited to build a bench with a cooking area and a table! Let’s hit some trails soon brother
I don’t think the GFC nor Decked are my forever setup. But with the cost of the other camper I want, this is great setup for weekend warriors.
@@JustinBMcBride agreed!
@@JustinBMcBridewhat do you think about an FWC project M camper?
The build is awesome, Justin. Let me know when your sponsors want to send some love to a guy in a Tacoma lol
Start making videos and turn it into a career like I did and you’ll be able to call camping work.
Justin, when u have a moment, how did u mount ur BD chase lights to the rear of the GFC tent?
I used the GFC 90° mounts and ran the wire through the tubes of the camper.
justin, Do u have any videos on the camera and editing software u use ? I am playing around with family videos and am curios do i just use go pro quik or something else ?
I like your set up ,very simple really .My questions are related to the GFC . Currently I am running an Xtrusion rack and a RTT. But on my next build I will be looking at a GFC or something similar. There are a lot of people complaining about the GFC leaking and the fact that the windows or doors don't fasten or seal on the bottoms . What is your experience and views on this ? Thanks
The doors not sealing on the bottom and the screens on the inside versus outside are my two largest gripes. I have never had water leak in, but mine has new slots cut into it that should help with draining.
Do you like having the traction mat on the decked system? Does it remove the need for strapping some things down?
I like it because it is squishy so when I wake up in the morning I’m stepping on the hard plastic.
The build is looking good so far, I feel the pain of trying to dust proof the bed on the gladiator.
Yay you finally got a fridge slide! 😂
FINALLY!
This set up makes me wish I had gotten a Taco instead of a 4runner! But my dogs really need the runner.
The engine in the Tacoma would hate this setup. The 4Runner is a better option. When I had my Tacoma I used to say that it hated driving.
One channel makes sense - I think that is a good move, so thank you for doing that. Personally (imho) I don’t think it’s necessary to port old videos (it actually makes me pay attention to notifications of content from you less), maybe just cross market them periodically.
It’ll be over before you know it. I have too many people sending me DMs asking where X video is on the channel that it will be simpler in the long run to have them all in one spot.
Hey Juustin, Lovee the channel, I follow for recommendations etc for my Gladiator, the Solix is just what I was wanting...BUT your link for Amazon is not showing 50% off in Canada ....whats uup? BTW this is on July 12th still prime day
Still prime day today. It may not be available on that same deal in Canada. Try this link: geni.us/AnkerSOLIX-F1200
@@JustinBMcBride Not available in Canada...which is odd, that you as a Canadian ar eposting Prime US links.
@@SeanFullerton Justin is based out of Utah. Were you perhaps thinking of Shaun from The Story Till Now who has appeared in previous videos? He is Canadian.
18:35 I love the Rhino Rack Stow-It’s for shovel an axe
I had those on my last Jeep. Super cool mount.
What do you do for an antenna since it looks like you don’t have one?
I don’t use the traditional radio. I’m 100% on CarPlay and use Apple Music, Audible, or Podcasts.
Is access from the tailgate into the truck bed not restricted by having a dual drawer system?
It’s a smidge tight. But I make it work.
I'm a Yota guy but if I were building a dedicated overland rig ... yeah. This.
Why rinse kit vs the Waterport?
Great question. I’ve ran a Waterport for years. This new Rinsekit doesn’t require hand pumping, is slimmer, holds more water, and has a genuine hard mount option that spans the length of the tank rather than just in the center, a common fail point for the Waterport.
Dang, may have to trade the Wrangler for a Gladiator/GFC. nice that you can chill indoors if needed.😃
I really wish I had this setup when driving the coast last year during all the rainstorms.
How tall are you and how much sleepable space is there in the go fast camper?
I’m 5’ 10”. The sleeping area is 90” but with the wedge at the end you lose maybe 8” of that.
This was a 28 minute advertisement for every company that has supplied you with products. 🤣
Take a step back, why would a company every send me anything? Is it perhaps because I make videos about adventure and gear? I don't hide when a company sends me anything. I prefer to be transparent about it, which I was in this video.
