Good review mate. I started with the Vive OG as well! I won’t be moving from lighthouse tracking via my VP2 until next gen is out. I was tempted by Bigscreen beyond but it still isn’t a big enough leap. VR is truly amazing and loved you dipping the toe back in the water.
Thanks for this very in-depth review! The headset tracking in 99% of cases can be solved. It could be with PC permissions that doesn't give enough CPU resources to the client, or environmental causes (such as a huge monitor in front of you).
Thank you for the thorough review. And thank you for spending some time on the controllers. Too many other reviewers just whitewash the subject because they want to spend all of their time gawking over the panel resolution. I currently own a Meta Quest Pro, a Meta Quest 3, and a Sony PSVR2 for my PS5. I am planning on buying a Pimax Crystal Light, and while I will get started with the controllers they ship with I am going to buy mine with the Lighthouse face-plate and will budget a pair of Valve Base Stations and set of Valve Controllers. So the cost for my set up will be something like $1,700. Considerably far North of the $899 price of the Crystal Light w/ local dimming and a pair of controllers. One might ask why not just try with the Pimax controllers first?? Well, I will, but I have already been down the road of inside out tracking and always had issues. The only solution that works very well that doesn't require Valve base stations and controllers is the Meta Quest Pro Controllers...because they are self-tracking. They have built-in cameras, sensors, and a processor. I even bought a set for my Meta Quest 3 they are so good.
@@TechManPat Also important is the games you played for the review. Most of the Pimax Crystal and Crystal Light reviews are posted by sim players. They don't use controllers with their sims since they use either a flight controller or a wheel. Consequently we get almost no information about the experience playing games that require controllers such as Half Life Alyx or Pistol Whip. So thank you for that as well as it filled an important void found in most reviews.
To be fair, the Crystal Controllers work with the quest 2 accesories such as grip covers etc. and the quest 2 controllers dont come with knuckle style grips out if the bix either. Weird gripe to make.
It is frustrating how we barely have any vr headset with displayport that can compete with Quest 3 quality with no standalone function just plain pcvr connection with cord. Some of use just don't wanna spend $2,000 plus and ordering different equipments in different places and websites for controllers and tracking base station just to get into vr.
@@toututu2993 THIS! There is no affordable true pcvr headset out right now with DisplayPort. Crystal Light seems like the only option under $1000 but it’s so bulky.
2:30 why would you sell your VR headset unless you were extremely broke? Its like saying I had fun playing some pc games but then 'the fun came to an end and I sold my pc'. It makes 0 sense unless you are upgrading.
I thought I made it pretty clear, that I had to use my gaming space as a living room, due to the setup requirements with the light boxes. It was just a lot of space to take up
Great video, lots of good information, i just have to add this little rant and its pretty insignificant. Please for the love of all the good in the world, dont use the teleport walk function for Half life Alyx, it makes me want to vomit thinking about the horrors of mass nausea from other games refusing to implement a simple, yet immersive walk function... witch is there! i promise, look it up... U are welcome, no need to thank me... I know its a life saver for immersion. Best of luck to you. I like the video, i owned the first HTC vive myself, it was the best option of all by far, except for controllers. bought the quest 3 just to try, and was met by great dissatisfaction, best go for the good ol "get a propper VR" especially for Half life Alyx.
I sold my crystal in favour of the quest 3 crystal has a slight clarity upgrade over q3 but close enough for me to not care and then q3 beats it in every other way possible not to mention can take it with you without a pc aswell aswell as mixed reality support and color 3d passthrew helps when you need to quickly make a coffee or attach a new wheel to the rig etc lol and built in multi tasking now has adaptive brightness also and far better to watch movies on then using bigscreen and the lenses are far better ibcouldnt stand the chromatic aberration on my crystal even tried a new set of lenses as I tried so hard to like it but in the end if I has to try to like it I figures it wasn't worth it
Does he mention the piss poor FOV compared to all other pimax models? I would rather use a 5k than this - but compared to potato based common headsets its slightlyy better agreed..................

"they just seem like prototypes". Sums up everything Pimax perfectly.
I like the design of this headset, very cyberpunk looking.
Also loving the shooty tooty gun action.

A review - how does it connect to the computer? Interface, say with Steam?
The pimax crystal does NOT provide 115°h fov its 104°h and 104°v max . Don't get fooled by pimax false statements
@x32i77 can confirm. This is from a OG crystal owner.

Lol, Even a Pimax Crystal cant make watching Borderlands good

Haha thanks mate, yes it’s very jarring but been playing it like that for ages. And now come to think of it a walk mod would be awesome
