I'd wager this isn't much more time than the average lady takes today--especially if they're going to work in an office. It takes me on average about 30-40 minutes at times shower, moisturize, dry my hair, dress, apply any kind of make-up, etc The major difference is that there is an option now to be more casual in our dress (and obviously no ladies maid). I do wish I could hide my hair in a cap some days for sure. :)
Took forever just to get to that cop of coffee in the morning. Here in the 21st century we can't get dressed without that first cup of coffee. How times have changed. Love watching these.
This really gets me curious about their routines on Saturdays and, particularly, on Sundays when the clothing would be different and Sabbath customs of the times would influence their days. Love these videos!
I would have thought she ( the lady’s maid) would have had a more active role than what was portrayed here. Admittedly I don’t know what is historically correct.
Justine is not her maid. She is her friends daughter that is living with her as her ward. Lucy would dress herself, and Justine is just there to help her and be her companion. Lucy and her family are not aristocrats we're they had servants do everything! They had servants but they were paid to help with chores and household duties. Remember in Pride and Prejudice, where they had servants but they were still lower income. Mr Bennett didn't do anything really but he was still considered a gentleman. They had means, but not a lot. That's why Mrs Bennett was so desperate to get her girls married to rich men. They couldn't continue to feed and clothe these girls as they got older and she wanted them to marry well so they could also help them. That's why Lizzie's friend was desperate to marry because she was a burden on her parents and she was getting older. Most girls were married by 18. She was in her 20's. That's why Justine was staying with Lucy because her own mother might not had the means to take care of her, so Justine would be grateful and help Lucy out as much as she could. Justine could have ended up a maid working in someone else house. Maids were almost always abused by other household servants or the homeowner and worked almost 16 hours a day. This is much better for Justine.

I know some people feel bad because the niece is practically a maid, but she is better off under their roof learning a vocation rather than on the streets getting raped and murder or thrown in a brothel. We need to understand that being at the top of the pyramid of creation means that everything we do trickles down the structure, from top to bottom. When it reaches the bottom, the inanimate level of reality, from which everything grows, it changes it. If we ooze ill-will, it creates negative changes throughout the system, which manifest in increasingly extreme climatic and geological events. In other words, when human relationships go out of balance, everything goes out of balance. When our relations become extreme, everything becomes extreme; when we become violent, everything becomes violent. Each summer, the ramifications of the linkage between our relations and our world become more extreme, until we acknowledge that everything that exists, exists in a connected, hierarchical system and that whoever is at the top determines the state of the rest of the system. It is not as if previously, we were better people than we are today. It is simply that there were fewer people, and therefore fewer elements that exude ill will. Also, relationships between people in the past were less toxic than they are today. While there are fewer wars today than ever, the levels of suspicion and alienation between people are skyrocketing, to the point where people can no longer trust their own family members. As a result, wars between countries are rarer than ever, but divorce rates, domestic violence, and violence in the community, are at an all-time high. Even the internet, which we invented purportedly in order to connect people, is being used to abuse, deceive, and exploit people. The world-wide-web proves that everything we create, we use against others. When there is such a negative element in a system, and that element is at the top of the system, how can the entire system not go awry? Therefore, if we want the weather to cool, the sea-level to drop, and the storms to subside, we must cool the fire and calm the storms between us. Mutual concern, mutual responsibility, or at least the knowledge that we are dependent on each other, are necessary in order to restore balance in our world at all levels, from the ground we walk on to the hatred in our hearts..
I really really really like the high white socks with ribbons, something that could easily be worn today. P.S dear main character lady, can we get a hair routine please yours is beautiful?
They're very uncomfortable. No stretch. And they give you varicose veins. My mum remembered life before elastic was common. According to her everyone dropped tieup socks and underwear practically overnight because elastic was so much more wearable.
Most things are very well-reenacted and thought through. Just two questions (from one who mostly lives in the 18th c.)--1) My perception has always been that a lady would be seated for her maid to do her hair for her (although from what we've seen of Lucy, perhaps she just willfully does it herself, assuming no-one else can get it right...!): and 2) The bright yellow hair tie (and a couple of other very bright reds and turquoises in this and some of the other videos) look to be about two generations ahead of their time. Until analine dyes appeared later in the 19th c., those bright colors couldn't be fixed and so were either never used, or faded out very quickly (with the first wearing/washing). Madder red was never a true crimson, it always had a bit more orange in it, and had deeper brown undertones, and blues couldn't be fixed with greens except in the light aqua range; one or the other would bleed out. Such colors might even appear in magazine illustrations, but those pigments were fixed and sourced differently; they could not be replicated in fabric dyes until the 1870s or so. Oh, and--what's that delightful piano piece? I should recognize it but I'm drawing a blank.

@@MizzKittyBichon I highly doubt women had less work opportunities back then. There were authoress's, entrepreneurs, nurses and teachers. The first self made millionaire on earth was a woman [Madame CJ Walker]. I am getting more and more sceptical of the feminist narrative.
@@simonefabiane9562 Madame CJ Walker lived in a different era than these folks did. Also, the careers you've mentioned were opportunities women could easily access compared to other fields.
Oh excellent, inspiration at last how to do the front closure for this kind of dress!
The music of this video: 9 Variations on a Minuet by Duport, K. 573, written by W. A. Mozart in 1789.
Fascinating! I just love the content on this channel!
Milady's parasol is such a beautiful accessory this morning
But completely useless.
Being made of lace, it
would not protect her face from the sun...😘
@@ninaelsbethgustavsen2131 i have a lace parasol and i can tell you that it does protect you from the sun and the heat, specially in comparison to a modern umbrella (they’re awful when used with that purpose).
I would be interested in knowing what some of the garments were. (The waist rag for one.)
That is a pocket which was tied around a woman's waist. In the side of her dress there are slits so that she can reach down into the pocket.
The lady kept her (linen) chemise on. Then added her corset, her tie on pockets, her semi open front dress, (with slits in the sides, to reach the pockets). Then her front dress apron.
She might have worn pantalones/knickers, but it was quite common not to....
How enchanting! 💐
Her hugging pillow as soon as she wakes up, is so me....
How time consuming. Knew they did rouge and powder, but was surprised by the kohl around the eyes.
How are you doing 😊☺️😊
Wunderbar! Ich liebe diese Zeit, die Kleidung und die Bräuche! Danke für diese videos
The yellow paint color in that room @ 0:46 What is it? Its awesome

Doesn't matter which culture.

Blessed you...
I felt just like the Missus this morning. Ugh! I have to get up. 😞😴

Love these videos!
That teacup collection was so popular in the 19th century I even have them
I love these videos.
a very pleasant and nice video. A beautiful woman who is wearing her grey hair beautifully. Peaceful and entertaining at the same time. It's interesting to see how women used natural hygiene products in those days.
Svp traduction ! Merci 😏

If you download an app called Shazam you can search for it that way. For the computer you can download it as an extension to your browser. Good luck! :)
@@slickchick2267 Thanks, yes, I realized I could search for it, just wanted to encourage good citations of musical works (being a musician and historical researcher/writer, anong other things) to uphold their value as a 'voice in the conversation,' and not just 'background sound.'
🌼🌺Remember do not stare at them it's consider rude they would also direct you about hand movement in what you would have to do at that time but also depends how close you are to the person. 🌸🌻

Here I am this morning with sweatpants and my husband old baggy sweatshirt (that I love) lol - on - took me less than 5 minutes to get dressed. (I work at home so that is part of the reason)
Wow ..simply amazing

Lovely segment!
I thought metal eyelets were used for corsets later on, like the 1850's?
Yes, you are right. In regency era there could be only hand stitched eyelets or bone ones.
I recall that pearl powder (and most face powders) had arsenic in it… I am sure yours did not for this demonstration, but it gave me the heebeejeebees thinking about it.
I’m loving the head dresses
Definitely is a noble family!
