My suggestion would be to not stress tricks when getting back into it, just ride your board around, ollie up and down curbs, maybe cruise in the bowl if you have one nearby. This will unlock your muscle memory much quicker. Also, it's important to take it slow when getting back into it because you forgot how to fall and you run the risk of hurting yourself. Just my personal experience
Warmup with freestyle tricks! It'll stretch your back and train your balance and footwork, get you used to being on the board again and limber you up for the flip tricks. I'm talking monster walk, endovers, caspers, walk the dog, maybe some railstands and old school kickflips. I've got 16 pins in my back and skating this way does wonders. Us old men gotta skate oldschool
hell yea brotha stay with it. i’ve heard it all comes back pretty quick if you’ve previously known how to skate. just get comfy again with board feel and go through your easier tricks
Started back about 4 years ago at 30 after a 12/13 year gap. At first I was extremely stiff at first along with Shaky legs but it’s really similar to riding a bike, the muscle memory is there and it becomes more about repetition at that point. Certain tricks were comfortable than others that I used to know in beginning but they came back really easy and also the comfortability; so I’d say depending on how much you skated as a teen dictates a portion of your new progression. Work on the tricks you did most of what your brain feels comfortable trying, other than that… manuals, Ollie’s, simple board slides/nose/tail or just 50’s really set you up for a successful experience. Hope that helps.
Start with the Ollie then find a small curb 2-3inches to practice Ollie’s up onto the curb and off the curb. Shovits and 180s after you get the Ollie’s down if pop shoves are too hard try front shoves. Find a short fence to lean on and hold with your hands to keep your balance while practicing your Ollie’s. you can even practice Ollie’s in the grass to keep you stationary
I already commented, but I came back to let you know that I'd love to follow your "getting back into skateboarding" journey, you look like a chill dude so if you feel like it, keep us posted, I'll be following.
Your ollie is legit, just stick to basics(riding, ollies, backside, frontside etc.) while and get comfortable with board and body. Or just do what you want to do and have fun, just be careful so you don't get injured. Good luck!
Get it man! Love to see it. That first ollie wasn't too shabby honestly. Keep it up! Def try a shuv or better yet a nollie shuv. "If you're young and you're skating, keep skating!" Totally wish I got back in earlier as well. Have fun!
Nice!! You are kind of motivating me to do the same, I’m 38 and I used to skateboard all day at 13/14 years old. Now I skateboard but on video games 😅 Congratulations man!!!! Keep it up 💪🏼🛹🥳
I got back into skating 3 weeks ago after 16 years off. I’m 33 now. Quick tip: Back when we used to skate, smaller setups were common. Forget that, go for wider decks like 8.375 or 8.5 and 149mm trucks. What’s your shoe size?
45.. getting back after 30 yrs Bro.. Best advice.. Ride.. get that balance and comfortability back first.. 40 yr old bones don't heal the same Bro.. keep them Shoulders aligned.. I had that same issue.. landing my ollies in a 90 degree angle..
Honestly dude I know it sounds gay, but stretching helps. I don’t do it as much as I should. Couple v-sits will help your lower back. You have a nice snappy Ollie. Doing it rolling will help you find your center of gravity again.

Baby steps, slapped and grinds. I don't flip much anymore.

@TheVertDeChine yeah man I hate stretching but your 100% right it needs to be done.
You should probably work on your flexibility first… before you seriously hurt your back.
