A couple things you should probably know to avoid confusion: In the context of digital video, "Buffering" does not mean "to shine up/improve" like you seem to think. It means "to come between" or "hold then forward." When you stream online video and it buffers, it means that a buffer (hold) is filling with data and it will begin playing that data when it has filled to a certain point. This is similar to what a frame buffer does when transmitting or displaying digital video. The image being transmitted line-by-line is transferred/stored into a buffer until it can be assembled into a complete frame and then either processed, displayed, or retransmitted. In short, buffering=delay, not enhancement. Most enhancements require buffering of at least one full frame which is why a framebuffer is considered a bad thing for latency (OSSC has none, Framemeister does). Next, "depth" has nothing to do with color enhancement. Color depth is how many bits were used per-pixel to specify a color. That is internal to the game's rendering engine or graphics hardware and does not change no matter what you do after the source image has been created. Whatever it does to the color should absolutely never be described as "increasing color depth." When someone talks about "deep blacks" or whatever it has absolutely nothing to do with color depth either but I can see where such phrasing might lead you to think so. These are two things I hear you say in most videos about these things which really undermine and distract from what you are trying to explain so I hope you incorporate these two small suggestions.
Hey John, I know you're big fan of retro games so... Have you ever tried this one with older consoles like the gamecube+eon mark II? I'm a little intrigued about the results... Both are expensive..
@@josemsanchez80 I got the M classic a few weeks ago, I am using it on a PC gaming monitor and it makes my PS4 games ( combined with the monitor ) look like a PS4.5. I have tried it with the PS3 and XBOX 360 and it makes them look super clean and sharp and gives them a great updated image overall. I am actually getting my old XBOX ONE out and going through the store to pick up 360 and original XBOX games to enjoy them all over again with a improved look to them over all. Its expensive BUT the next gen machines are going to be hard to find for a while, and so why not grab something that will make you want to play your old games all over again with a new coat of paint on them.
This is a little bit of subject but I spent about five hours of my graveyard shift looking at all your retrospective on all the old consoles going into the seventh generation. I love your channel and it’s very informative.
PLEASE do a video on your video game consoles setup!!! It would be sick to see the consoles that are hooked up to your tv!👍 (If you could) show like all the consoles starting up! 😅
Thank you, Adam, just ordered one for myself. Have a PS3 Slim, this will be a great addition to full Metal Gear series play through (and not only). :) In fact, I've missed out on whole PS3 generation, and now I have a lot of catching up to do. Slap on top of it's jailbroken and can run ps1/2/3 games. Awesome!
Thanks for the advice to set my HD consoles back a resolution first, never even considered doing that. Usually I wait for you to thouroughly examine a product before I jump on it but the mClassic was simply too exciting for me NOT to be an early backer. I love it! Great video, as usual.
In the video there's a mention of setting up multiple HDMI switches going then into one box. I'm usually not a fan of daisy chaining but it makes sense to have the mClassic at the end, just before going into the TV HDMI port. I have a lot of HDMI ports going into the TV (going to be north of 12) that I handle via 5-port switchers. What would be a good final piece to kind of condense of all of these HDMI switchers and sources into one final box to get the best benefit from the mClassic (ie. not have to buy two or move it around all the time). Obviously lag is a concern, but anything a frame or below is acceptable because of how weird the setup is. EDIT: Honestly though, what a time to be alive where all of this is possible.
Great video, but two things I think you should take note of: - While the footage looks pretty good, but I noticed that the Luigi's Mansion footage looked darker, specifically it looked like it was crushing the blacks. Also, on the Saturn and OG Xbox comparisons, the browns look a little more red than they should. - You said most Wii U games run at 1080p; this is incorrect, most are 720p like the PS3 and 360. Like the 360, the Wii U just does it's own internal scale to 1080p. For the Xbox 360, you'll need to figure out on your own which games are 1080p, but I can tell you every 1080p game on the Wii U is: Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, Super Smash Bros., Rayman Legends, and Darksiders Warmastered Edition.
Great video, I've had the original cable since release and just ordered this new one for my bedroom. Glad to see you figured out you can use a splitter with it! In a previous video I remember you mentioned not being able to do that. Your pound ps2 cable inspired me to restore my phat launch PS3 just so I can enjoy crispy ass PS2 content. Great job keep it up!
I was really anticipating this video. The mCable is an expensive HDMI cable and it's benefits are locked in the cable. I don't need more cables, so this is the right solution I was waiting for. It did mess with the weird aspect ratio of the SNES, but the older stuff is where I noticed the color depth change, at least through UA-cam's compression. It's crazy how tech has advanced to help us with our older content. Really the next thing I'm hoping for is a solution to reintroduce the "fake transparency"/color gradients, that dithering gave us with our older games, like on Genesis and most Saturn games through those old CRT's. I've heard of this being emulated on PC, but it's in it's infancy from what I could tell.
For the Switch I am kinda considering getting this because most Switch games don't look too great on my 65 inch 4K TV. Games with resolutions lower than 1080p are very noticeable. Take Astral Chain for example, it's 900p and has jaggies. Wonder how much this thing would help.
Insane results, Thanks man, base on one of your video/tutorial I ended up ordering these 2 parts mClassic and the EON Super 64 for my Nintendo 64 setup, Looking forward for amazing results, should get it this week, Thanks for your time!!
11:05 - To answer your question. The reason why they did this. Is because, if they output GameCube in original image. It's not in true 4:3 Aspect Ratio. The image is a little bit skinning. That's because Nintendo create a image like that in order to fill the screen on CRT TV. What mClassic did. Let's say your TV is 1080p (1920x1080). Which means your TV is 16:9 Aspect Ratio. If you set mClassic to Retro Mode. It will re-stretch a image from 1920x1080 to 1440x1080. Which means you're getting 4:3 Aspect Ratio, what the games meant to be played on. I hope that make scenes to you.
I like the color of the picture. The original picture on the left seems to have a slight greenish 'tint', whereas the MClassic seems to correct that! If they create a 'V2' with such a Mini-Remote like the cheap HDMI-Switches have + some features to be toggled via an OSD (like DC-HDMI), that would be even better IMO and I would pay 150€/165$ for it...
Man, I've been watching your Channel from more than 5/6 years and you are allways talking about how to have the best video quality of your consoles but your videos have the same quality from years ago and nowadays it looks bad and blurry. You need to update your camera or use your phone (that videos looks infinitely superior than your normal videos). Your content is excellent and you are one of my favorite youtubers, but your videos looks like S-Video at best, you need to look like HDMI!! It's just a constructive critic, don't take it in the wrong way.
Whelp this sold me on it. I really needed to see what it could do to 5th gen stuff especially and I think it is doing exactly what is promised. Can't wait for it to arrive.
With a modded PS2, there's a way to burn games to disc with a patch for the resolution to get most games running in 480p, and another patch to get widescreen on games that don't support it or screw it up(like Bully). I have a modded PS2 and still don't wanna go through all that trouble. Basically, I guess PS2 diehards like me will have to wait for the Hyperkin Retrostation 2 in 5 years to get some companies competing for sexy PS2 resolution. Why do I love the crappiest looking console? Maybe modded PS3's will be more accessible in the future, those things are amazing.
@@zaneiken07 Thanks, I haven't heard of these HDMI mods. I'm guessing they're special circuit boards with an HDMI slot on it that gets installed? Do you know this person's name/website?
Thank's for the information I really appreciate it because I'm like you in a lot of ways because I love my old classics consoles and my old game's and I always will. I found a old CRT TV at the goodwill and it has brought back so many great memories of when I was a much younger man. Keep gaming and keep winning.💯👍💯
this is better. always wondered why the original cable put the processor at the ends making the plugs huge, they should have put it in the middle where it wouldn't interfere with space issues behind devices.
Nice Review Adam. I am really tempted to get the m cable classic although I am the owner of Framemeister ralready. I am avid Gamecube und Dreamcast User and can use HDMI on both devices. 480p does not seem the Framemeister's specialty and I have been looking for some ways for quite some time already to enhance the 480p Signal of these consoles. The m cable classic might be a decent solution for my problems.
I do own the Framemeister and the current Mcable Gaming Edition. E.g. for GameCube, Wii, Dreamcast the Framemeister scales the input up 720p. Then the Mcable (which goes directly into my 4kTV) scales that to 1080p. My Nintendo Switch goes to my Framemeister as well, but I use HDMI passthrough.
Good review. Yeah this is great for my PlayStation classic and Xbox 360. I bought 2 of them. What sucks is the hdmi 1.4 standard. Trying to hook it up to a 4k tv doesn't work out well as it has terrible bandwith. Why they didn't make this hdmi 2.0 I have no idea. But it does a good job for retros and is way cheaper than the mcables I bought 2 years earlier.
Hi Adam, last week I found out about something called the 4k gamer pro, it inverts a signal to 4k 60fps. Someone on UA-cam did a video showing the Mclassic working with the 4k gamer pro and the results look amazing. If search for 4K gamer pro you will find it , it's the video with mortal combat XL . THE thumbnail is a mclassic and 4k gamer pro and a ps4 with an engine on top. As you have the Mclassic you might be interested in doing a follow up video to this one. The results are very nice and have convinced me to order one. I think it has only been around for 6 months or so , so it has probably gone under the radar and I know you love stuff like this.
Me too. I have an ossc hdmi. I have my dreamcast hooked up to it. I want to see what it can do with all those old 3d games. I do notice the jagged edges more on the DC considering how old the system is. I'm guessing I may not like how it looks for 2d dreamcast games.
I'm revisiting this video and have been using the m classic with the EON super 64 for the N64 ever since seeing your videos here and I want to thank you again for your excellent in depth analysis. I have continued to personally chose it over the UltraHDMI mod for the N64 because while not cheap, it's still in my opinion, more cost effective than modifying the console, for the results I want, at least in the mods current state and price. Your videos helped me a lot, more than any other source on youtube or elsewhere so thank you for your work.
Hi Adam , that was a great review man, the Mclassic is a great device , but it gets quite expensive to use properly if you have a lot of consoles to connect it to....... but the enhancements it makes are amazing and could well be worth the money. I'm old skool and use a 32 inch CRT, I quite like the rough edges and scan lines.
Hi Adam! Excellent review men! Suggestion: Do you have a summary video about what could be the best retro hdmi combination for retro consoles? This video for sure suggest one of this elements should be mClassic but with too many devices in the market (also you have made some videos about most of them, thanks for that!) it’s hard to know how to get the best video quality for each console.... like a “HDMI Retro connections - 2019 list”. Thanks again for the good quality reviews!!!
Adam Koralik yeah!! I see them in the last couple of weeks, very good and detailed! I like how you describe all details about the good and bad enhancements each device have... just got in my mind another suggestion: “My HDMI setup for retro, including switch and enhancers”. Jus suggestions here, don’t want to sound bossy! Thanks again for all your good work!!!
Hi Adam! I use my fat PS3 for PS2 games. Just bought the classic. Which mode should I use? I’m assuming I should leave it in the middle for ps3 games and put it in retro mode for when I’m playing ps2 games? Thank you!
Great video! For the Original Xbox, I've been using a Volantech component to HDMI converter which works really well and what I recommend over a Pound or Hyperkin cable. I may test it with the mClassic once it comes out..
Hey Adam, wanted to let you know that by using a homebrew booter called Swiss you can force 480p on the GameCube for technically unsupported games, much like the Dreamcast. There are still a few that don’t support it, but it’s allows a large majority to run in 480p. Great video!
Adam Koralik how certain are you of this? I’ve never seen any mention of forcing progressive on the GC (Swiss, Nintendont, Qoob chips, etc.) as just line-doubling.
Adam, I'm morbidly behind on your content, but I saw this on time and spent money because of you. I think that makes up for it haha! I've been meaning to get one of these for a while, but I'm striking while the iron is hot on the new iteration.
Thaank you for the review, Adam. But I didn't notice any difference in the comparisons with the different consoles, except maybe a tiny bit with the Dreamcast.
Stumbled upon your video when searching about this. I bought one and it arrived yesterday. I can't see any difference in the Switch, at all. It makes Pokémon Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness look AMAZING (ideal for my channel) but the Switch/PS4 don't look any different. How did you connect it to the Switch? Using the little HDMI extender that comes with it?
Just ordered one after watching this and seeing some videos from Marseille themselves showing off key Switch games that get a noticeable visual improvement from the mClassic. But one system I want to test it on, that I've never seen anybody mention and isn't even listed on the back of the box for probably obvious reasons, is the PlayStation TV/Vita TV. The Vita TV supported up to 720p same as the original Vita handheld, a lot of games run at that resolution. It's just a straight HDMI connection so it should work just fine and I'm curious to see what games like Persona 4 Golden and Freedom Wars look like with the mClassic plugged in.
MINIMAL SETUPS --> Wonderful results Snes, Mega Drive (Genesis) and any gen before --> Retrotink 2x --> mClassic (not mCable) in pass through mode --> TV PS2, Wii, Saturn, PSX, NGC --> Component 240p/480i/480p --> Retrotink 2x --> mClassic in mode 3 --> TV N64 --> RGB Mod --> GameShark deBlur --> component 240p --> Retrotink 2x --> mClassic in mode 3 --> TV Dreamcast --> S-Video 240p --> Retrotink 2x --> mClassic in mode 3 --> TV PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360 and beyond --> set to 720p (even PS4 and NS) --> mCable (or mClassic mode 2) --> TV PC (3D Games) --> set to 720p AA Off --> mCable (or mClassic mode 2) --> Monitor Movies --> set box to 720p --> mCable Cinema Edition --> TV
Great video! Helped me decide if I wanted the mClassic or not. I love it so far. Only have used it on my GameCube but notice a big difference. Now I need to find a HDMI switcher and I’m good to go.
From what I understand, from an email with the mClassic's company, that there is a device on Amazon, that COULD force 1440p to your 4k television. mClassic only works on tvs that support 1440p natively, some tvs support 1440p, but not natively. The mClassic, doesn't force 1440p, because some tvs, you won't even get a picture if it's forced, others it will... So they opted to just support the best solution for everyone, and only support 1440p for tvs that natively support it, otherwise it does 1080p... My tv supports 1440p btw, and it looks amazing, my other 4k tv, doesn't and, 1080p still looks good, but yeah, 1440p is the real deal with this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SSD8VR8/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
@@AdamKoralik That was really confusing when I read it back. Basically, a device similar to what I linked, might let you play in 1440p. Hell of a lot cheaper than a new tv!
I noticed that at 20:40 you mention that you can set your PS2 to RGB, set it up with HD Retrovision Component Cables, and the Retrotink so that you are able to apply the mClassic. I own the Retrotink 2x and PS2 HD Retrovision Component Cables as well, but when I try to set my PS2 to RGB my signal goes out. Am I doing something wrong, did you not mean to say "put it in RGB mode", or did you mean another type of cable that can support an RGB signal? By the way, I love your review videos. Not only do you describe and show how the product works, but you also go into all the possible ways that you can use a product and even show what the outcome is along with comparisons of other products which is really awesome.
I don't remember off hand, but in the settings you can switch between RGB and component (YPbPr). Off hand I know one works and I think the other doesn't. Just tinker, you'll figure it out. The PS2 is kind of annoying like that.
@@AdamKoralik "(I don't know how I missed that earlier, but yeah I did "figure it out" haha). " oh ok, component (YPbPr) is the only setting I can get to work. I just wanted to make sure because I was going nuts trying to get it to work with RGB after seeing that part in the video haha. I already pre-ordered my mClassic and just want to test out every way I can to make all my retro games (mainly all my 480i games that can't support 480p) to look as good as possible. That and Resident Evil 2 (N64) w/ expansion pak which has that annoying signal issue when used with any worthwhile upscaler. Thanks a lot for the reply.
I bought this thing because of your recommendation. If anyone wants to know what it does, just look into what standard interpolators/smoothing algorithms do. A perfect example is the HQ2X shader, the mCable is that with no lag. It is very person dependent but most people who like retro games will either notice little to no difference because of their TV's increasingly improving processor or a smoothing effect that would only really enhance modern (PS4/Xbox One) games. However keep this one point in mind, it doesn't support HDR (either HD10 or Dolby Vision) so if you have an Xbox one and/or PS4 Pro it will probably make your games look worse as well. I got 2 from the indiegogo and have used it both for games and movies, personally I think it is bad for 240p era games and has value with color correction with movies. However, it is not magic. It's like that classic (mClassic) adage, if it seems too good to be true it probably is.
I love it, but like you said, it's taste dependent. I use it for retro content. As I make clearly, if you have the pieces and the infrastructure of cables and all that, you'll get a lot out of it. I agree with you on the Xbox One/PS4. Incidentally, I did end up buying one. Don't accuse me of doing a good review for a small hunk of plastic man, not cool.
17:00 Clarification: I have a PAL GameCube, it has the Digital AV Port and thus can support component video. But it doesn't offer the progressive scanning, that's disabled on PAL games. If you're a PAL user, you're probably better off using RGB SCART.
Great video bro. Is it safe the leave the mclassic on while not using it? Or dl we have to shut it off every time? And what video switcher would you recommend?
So if you plug this into an Eon Super 64 and that's already plugged into your N64, do you still need to provide power via USB to the mClassic? Or does the N64 take care of powering the mClassic automatically?
Nice vid, man. I watched your others about the m-cable too. Here’s my question just to be clear: I have a Wii hooked up by hyperkin hdmi to a 1080p tv. The Wii is set to 480p, everything including the VC games and emulators fill the screen without stretching, right?
@@djd-cepticon7215 I presume you're emulating mostly older content, say...N64 or SNES. But you're seeing it in widescreen? If so, it's being stretched. The mClassic in Retromode would fix this, or is supposed to.
Adam Koralik and the middle setting would keep it stretched but still clean up the jagged edges and pixels, correct? I think I get it now. Thanks for help man. Already ordered one👌🏼
One month later...still loving mine at 1440p. I havnt been able to focus on a game in a month I've been so wowed by swapping and trying so many old ones. Really hope they get a third generation going that does 4k auto hdr pass through. I imagine that'll take a few years for that technology.
I really love your reviews as you always seem honest and even. Have you played around much with it and emulation? I recently ordered a Nvidia Shield and was wondering what the Classic might do there? Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the review was waiting for this encase the regular one was for some reason better. ordered myself the double pack one for myself and another for a friend.
It might be worth noting that comparing native 1080p vs 720p+mClassic (as you did with the PS3) is going to stretch some pixels on the mCable side as 720p sizes aren't integer multiples of 1080p. To get a fair comparison, I think you'd need to do same resolution or integer scale resolutions (like 480p vs 240p+mClassic).
I was thinking a lot about all of the options for component and upscaling. You've been very helpful with my questions. I'm actually considering going with the Levelhike for all of my consoles SNES, GameCube and PS2. I originally was going to go with either retrovision component + retrotink + mclassic for PS2 .....and Carby + mclassic for GameCube. But, my TV only puts out 720p,1080i max resolution(it doesn't do 1080p). The levelhike upscales to 720p, the max resolution for my TV, and has a 4:3 aspect ratio option anyway. I'm wondering if it'd be a waste to get the Carby and all of those component cables with an mclassic if the TV is only going to do 720p anyway? Any thoughts? Maybe I can save some money with the Levelhike if the picture isn't going to be better with the other options. I'm just thinking that if I get component + retrotink for PS2 and Carby for GameCube it will make 480p. If I add the mclassic on top, and my tv max progressive scan output is 720p, wouldn't the mclassic at that point be a waste because it's still only going to be able to do 720p?
@@AdamKoralik Gotcha. I'm getting an mclassic anyway to pair to a GCV converter. I'm interested in the Rad2x. I wanted to use that for my SNES. Any thoughts?
What do you recommend I used to connect a Super Nintendo with this product to be able to play on a modern TV? Will there be any improvements on the looks.of the games?
The M Cable & the M classic device both are a combined and unique weapon for retro gaming ¿how is that? EASY: The source HDMI Cable connect it into the MClassic device while the other HDMI with the M Chip that requires USB Connection plugg it into the TV and you have a big juice of great quality.
Which splitter do you recommend (also what to you use for the wii to convert to hdmi. i watched your video on the wii u and the mcable but how about the original.)? Thanks for the thorough breakdown of the mclassic!
I use one by Zetta (should be easy to remember for you :P ). I don't use the original Wii through HDMI, as you point out. So I don't have an ideal solution. The Hyperkin cables will probably do fine, but the Wii U is going to be a better bet.
Thanks for the quick reply. wasn't sure if you would have time to respond. Btw would you also suggest the hyperkin cables for the ps2? or do you use a modded ps3?
Great vid Adam - love your work! Would there be any noticeable benefit running an Ultra HDMI modded N64 through this, with its output resolution set to 720p?
Those square generic Scart to Hdmi converters can output 800x600 @50/60hz. Do you know if the mClassic supports this input resolution? I have this idea that a PS2 or Gamecube will look better this way rather than squashing upscaled 720p back to 4:3 with retro mode. Do you have any way to test this? Thanks
I have a retrotink 5x and and I use it for ps2 and OG Xbox and I have component for both of course. My TV is a LG CX so it supports 1440p which is max output resolution for retrotink 5x. If I bought this what I would I want to set my resolution on the retrotink to? I’m thinking 720p for Xbox and 480p for ps2 but I am unsure and that is why I am asking this question. And would it even be worth it to use with the 5x as well?
Thanks for going so in depth, even with its shortcomings I think I'm going to pick this up. I'm not an engineer, so this might be impossible, but I hope they eventually come out with a 480i to 480p conversion within the device itself. (I'm a hopeless ps2 fan, I know it cleans up objectively the worst out of all the 6th gen consoles but its the only legitimate way to play *so* many games like Silent Hill 3 and much more.)
It might just be a chip in my TV (a fairly old Panasonic), but I've got a $10 ps2HDMI adapter and the deinterlacing is so good, somewhere in the signal chain, that I can't see any difference between 480p games and 480i games. They all look like 480p!
I just have a question about how you use it for PS2. In comparison to using the Retrotink 2X with the older mCable for PS2 games, as you showed with Twisted Metal Head On, would you say this component/retrotink/mClassic combo delivers similar or superior results? And how consistent is it with a variety of games? That's how I want to use my PS2 for potential capture, since the various deinterlacing methods I've tried for a bunch of different of games vary in quality and compatibility. I'm sure you know that PS2 games deinterlace and scale differently depending on which game it is. Also, would you say that the HD Retrovision PS2/PS3 cables are superior to Sony OEM cables? I've got the PS3 style component cables, the ones with the silver color scheme, so I'm wondering which is better.
Oh, about the Wii as a Game Cube: so with Wii component cables, you can easily output component at 480p. At the moment, I plug that directly into my HDTV, and it looks fine. I also have a RetroTink which, infamously, won't take a 480p signal, it won't even pass it through. Would I be better off running my Wii component cables through the RetroTink and then the mClassic with progressive turned off (outputting 480i component into the RetroTink)?
I think this is great for Analogue stuff like Mega Sg or Super Nt because the original console that based on (Genesis and SNES) doesn't have HDMI output back then (duh)
Am I the only one who's watching youtube video's about video games more than actually playing them?
Actually yes but also not
Me too, it suucks
Lol you're not alone 😂
By the time I actually have a moment to game, it feels easier to just watch someone else

A couple things you should probably know to avoid confusion:
In the context of digital video, "Buffering" does not mean "to shine up/improve" like you seem to think.
I swear by the mCable. This looks awesome, too.

In fact, I've missed out on whole PS3 generation, and now I have a lot of catching up to do.
Results seems to be impressive as usual on the Dreamcast. I have the Akura and i preordered the mclassic. Looks Amazing!
Wonderful review as usual.
Great video, but two things I think you should take note of:
- While the footage looks pretty good, but I noticed that the Luigi's Mansion footage looked darker, specifically it looked like it was crushing the blacks.
I think that crushing blacks with Luigi' s Mansion might actually have something to do more with the color design of the game more than the cable.
If that's the case, than it shouldn't happen with the official component cables, and it doesn't seem to be caused by the GC HDMI by the comparison.
Wow that device is magical. 720p + mClassic on PS3/Xbox 360 looks phenomenal.
connect your mcable to your mclassic and play atari games on a 4k tv for the sake of science
You know it's gonna be a good video when it begins with "Figure it out"
I was really anticipating this video.
I know I am very late but if possible set resolution to the rendering resolution of the game for best results
Insane results, Thanks man, base on one of your video/tutorial I ended up ordering these 2 parts mClassic and the EON Super 64 for my Nintendo 64 setup, Looking forward for amazing results, should get it this week, Thanks for your time!!
Got this for my wii games and playing them on my wiiu
Hey do you output your wii games in 480p on the wii u and use the mclassic on that?
How much better does the Wii U look playing Wii games?
16:07 Adam I know how you feel about composite cables but honestly man it looks pretty good for the yellow cable
Deinterlacing 480i is not "line doubling." Line doubling is what the RetroTink 2X or OSSC in 2X mode do with 240p. 480p>480i is just "deinterlacing."
Don't you mean 480i>480p is deinterlacing?
I love watching Adam rip open the packages like it’s Christmas morning
The guy behind the Dreamcast and Wii HDMI mods is currently working on a PS2 mod.
@@zaneiken07 Thanks, I haven't heard of these HDMI mods. I'm guessing they're special circuit boards with an HDMI slot on it that gets installed? Do you know this person's name/website?
His name is Dan Kuntz aka Citrus3000psi
@@zaneiken07 thank you so much!
The mcable works wonders with psvr. I bought the 2 pack.
Hey there. Do you have V1 or v2? It seems that there are some complaints about V2 capability.
Will it make your videos clearer though? ;)
No dark magic can do that.
I would like to know how compatible this is with the O.S.S.C.
Me too, my OSSC is the DVI version so testing it is...a pain.
@@AdamKoralik I'd like to see if it's compatible with the 480p 2x mode of the OSSC in particular, but I doubt it.
Me too. I have an ossc hdmi. I have my dreamcast hooked up to it. I want to see what it can do with all those old 3d games. I do notice the jagged edges more on the DC considering how old the system is.
I'm guessing I may not like how it looks for 2d dreamcast games.
If I use scan lines on the ossc, I wonder if this would mess up the scanline effect.
I think I need a retroTink before I need a mClasic.
Just bought this to attach to my super 64 I already currently have in my Nintendo 64 can’t wait!
Thank you for the video!
Do you have any comments on combining the mClassic with and OSSC linedoubling 480i to 480p?
To be honest, I didn't test that.
Pretty cool but I still like to just use my crt tv to play retro games lol.
Why not both? Maybe I'm mad but I have a crt setup and an LCD setup and I like to play on both.
I use a lcd which supports all of the ps2 game resolution s.
Not specifically, I've done individual videos on a lot of them though.
Thanks again for all your good work!!!
would love to see the results it gives on a playstation classic.
Same here
Hi Adam! I use my fat PS3 for PS2 games. Just bought the classic. Which mode should I use? I’m assuming I should leave it in the middle for ps3 games and put it in retro mode for when I’m playing ps2 games? Thank you!
Set the PS3 to 720p mode. In the case of most games, put the mClassic in retro mode. Most PS2 games don't have native widescreen support.
I wish I could use this on the Wii Mini, sadly it only supports AV cables.
Why the hell would someone buy a wii mini ffs
Great video! For the Original Xbox, I've been using a Volantech component to HDMI converter which works really well and what I recommend over a Pound or Hyperkin cable. I may test it with the mClassic once it comes out..
I was wondering about this solution. I have official component cables and would hate to out them in retirement for an inferior hdmi adapter.
HDMI 1.4 equals dead on arrival big mistake marseille.
Wait their Mcables are 1.4?
Hey Adam, wanted to let you know that by using a homebrew booter called Swiss you can force 480p on the GameCube for technically unsupported games, much like the Dreamcast. There are still a few that don’t support it, but it’s allows a large majority to run in 480p. Great video!
Thanks, I've heard of it. But it's basically just line doubling. But yes, that would still help.
Adam Koralik how certain are you of this? I’ve never seen any mention of forcing progressive on the GC (Swiss, Nintendont, Qoob chips, etc.) as just line-doubling.
Can you do a video on running 240p consoles with a framemeister, ossc, dvdo paired with the mclassic? Cause that’s how I plan on running it. Thanks
Haha I wanna see that
Same here. I have one of each
You answered all my questions! Amazing video. Thank you so much... Now I need to buy an mClassic. :P
Really?
@@AdamKoralik Well, that's just me, or maybe the way you captured the native videos was good :)
When Adam uploads, I hit the pause button on life.
Correct, use that extension cable.
Might I suggest you take a peep at Marseille's video on this exact scenario: ua-cam.com/video/UvKboR5h5w0/v-deo.html

N64 --> RGB Mod --> GameShark deBlur --> component 240p --> Retrotink 2x --> mClassic in mode 3 --> TV
Dreamcast --> S-Video 240p --> Retrotink 2x --> mClassic in mode 3 --> TV
PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360 and beyond --> set to 720p (even PS4 and NS) --> mCable (or mClassic mode 2) --> TV
PC (3D Games) --> set to 720p AA Off --> mCable (or mClassic mode 2) --> Monitor
Movies --> set box to 720p --> mCable Cinema Edition --> TV
Subscribed because of this video. Very professional editing and great knowledge. Thank you
Great video!
Interesting.
@@AdamKoralik That was really confusing when I read it back. Basically, a device similar to what I linked, might let you play in 1440p. Hell of a lot cheaper than a new tv!
Hey Adam, can I use this with my polymega? How about a framemeister/ mclassic/polymega combo? And I’m assuming “retro mode” for any of those setups …
Probably? I don't own one.
oh ok, component (YPbPr) is the only setting I can get to work.
Nice music pick with the comparisons at the end dude ;)
@@AdamKoralik Apologies, corrections made.
All good.
Nice touch adding the intro music to Shenmue 2 at the end the Dreamcast is awesome no matter the resolution.
17:00 Clarification: I have a PAL GameCube, it has the Digital AV Port and thus can support component video. But it doesn't offer the progressive scanning, that's disabled on PAL games. If you're a PAL user, you're probably better off using RGB SCART.
That's what I was saying, yes.
Great video bro. Is it safe the leave the mclassic on while not using it? Or dl we have to shut it off every time? And what video switcher would you recommend?
Yeah, I leave it on all the time.
As for HDMI switches, I like ZettaGuard ones.
So if you plug this into an Eon Super 64 and that's already plugged into your N64, do you still need to provide power via USB to the mClassic?
Or does the N64 take care of powering the mClassic automatically?
USB power required.
@@AdamKoralik Alright thanks
Nice vid, man. I watched your others about the m-cable too. Here’s my question just to be clear: I have a Wii hooked up by hyperkin hdmi to a 1080p tv. The Wii is set to 480p, everything including the VC games and emulators fill the screen without stretching, right?
You're asking about the aspect ratio that you'll get if you use the mClassic?
Adam Koralik Yea! Basically what would the aspect ratio be with VC and emulators with my setup including the mclassic. Sorry for being unclear.
Try it on your Mom, she's old.
I really love your reviews as you always seem honest and even. Have you played around much with it and emulation? I recently ordered a Nvidia Shield and was wondering what the Classic might do there? Keep up the great work!
Thanks, I'm not much for emulation.
Thanks for the review was waiting for this encase the regular one was for some reason better. ordered myself the double pack one for myself and another for a friend.
Thank you so much for this video, it was very articulate and extremely informative.
Nice Job. Loved the video keep up the great work
Dude, you’re idea of feeding all consoles into a switcher then using mclassic into that switcher is GENIUS. You just saved me so much money lol
Happy to help.
Very God vid. Lowered the resolution on my dock. Seeing more of it now
I'm going to use it for my Wii u and Dreamcast.
I've never liked LevelHike stuff much. They're just cheap generic converters to be honest.
@@AdamKoralik Gotcha. I'm getting an mclassic anyway to pair to a GCV converter. I'm interested in the Rad2x. I wanted to use that for my SNES. Any thoughts?
Makes the older stuff look much smoother, I noticed especially on the 32x and Sega CD. Couldnt see much of an improvement on newer systems though
Aha! I was waiting for this one 😊 Thanks Adam !
Nice video Adam. Appreciate the demo and explanations.
What do you recommend I used to connect a Super Nintendo with this product to be able to play on a modern TV? Will there be any improvements on the looks.of the games?
Well, for the best image or just...an image?
There is a designflaw in my opinion, it should not plug in the console but in the tv so i can use is on all my consoles at once.
That's essentially the mCable.
The M Cable & the M classic device both are a combined and unique weapon for retro gaming ¿how is that? EASY: The source HDMI Cable connect it into the MClassic device while the other HDMI with the M Chip that requires USB Connection plugg it into the TV and you have a big juice of great quality.
An awesome video as ever Adam! 😁
Keep up the stellar job man 👊
A master class review. Thanks!
Probably, hard to say as I can't test it.
Thanks
Not sure, I didn't use that thing with this. Not even sure I still own one
Great freaking question, I was wondering the very same thing.
Jumped on the bandwagon when there was only 50 left for the 2 pack. This cable will work great with an OSSC :) Thanks for the tip Adam
Thanks so much Adam! Keep keeping on my dude ^_^
Check out the footage I got of Virtua Fighter 4. That was using a line doubler and component cables, then letting the mClassic enhance it.
@@AdamKoralik my bad, hadn't noticed that, thank you. Time to get a line doubler too ha. Easier than finding room for a CRT imo.
It might just be a chip in my TV (a fairly old Panasonic), but I've got a $10 ps2HDMI adapter and the deinterlacing is so good, somewhere in the signal chain, that I can't see any difference between 480p games and 480i games. They all look like 480p!
@@davidste60 thats good, but in order to work with the mcable it has to actually be 480p.
Same process as I did with the mCable, just use the mClassic instead.
It's the PS2, results will always be...varied.
Eh, PS2 always looks bad. The best you can do is make it look...less bad.
Have been waiting for this,thanks!
Thank you for the review. Question, how about using the mClassic with an HDMI switcher? Has that been tested? thanks
He specifically mentions that in the video. :-|
Yes, it works.
xdoolittlex lol, dang I guess I missed it.
Adam Koralik thanks, my apology man. I guess I missed when you said that. That is the ultimate money saver. Thanks again
No apology needed son
