I upgraded my tv not long ago to 4k and i was kinda surprised with no component inputs on modern displays! Luckily i found a LG tv with a buddy with all hookups including composite! Its a shame tvs aren’t built with old hookups in mind especially for us retro players LOL great video Adam! 😎
I would recommend the RetroTink 5x for TVs that don't have component inputs.
For those who want amazing PQ and no extra adaptors, there is one modern 2020 Panasonic oled model that has built in COMPONENT and composite input. It has the best picture plus built in speakers tuned by Technics. HZ2000
Adam, the reason for the video glitching on your Mountain Dew Xbox isn't because of cheaper components, it's because you likely need to replace capacitors on the board (not talking about the clock cap which outright needs to be removed).
Some of the capacitors are responsible for the power regulation of video transmission, and when caps start to fail it will affect analog signals. How do I know this? I've been repairing Xbox consoles specifically for over twenty years, and working in electronic repair for even longer.
I enjoy your videos, but you need to take greater care in ensuring your facts are correct. I'm reminded of when you mentioned that some rare PS2 models came equipped with USB 2.0 ports, which is factually incorrect all the way around.

@@LD50II It's usually the ones in front of the CPU. Depending on your version it might be 3 - 5 capacitors.
yes the end of this video had me very confused. I believe the xbox I have is a 1.6 something and I use the monster component cables and no visual artifacts or funny stuff like that ever shows up.
@@tohno1809 I use a Monster Component cable with my LG 55” Flatscreen and it looks amazing on the 720P Games.
I wasn't fortunate to find a complete set of Monster Brand cables. Usually it's missing the adapter for Toslink audio.
Are the Psyclone cables just as good or better? I appreciate the fact that the Toslink port is built into the plug behind the Xbox.
I'm currently rocking a Samsung LN37D550 37" TV and I'm happy. I don't own a 4K TV. Just because I still play and own an Xbox One. I don't consume my UHD content. I mean, it took me into the early 2010's to leave behind DVDs and watch content on HD or Blu-ray.
I never had a XBOX growing up, but recently with the whole talk of Insignia I started picking up a plethora of games. I'm really enjoying the SEGA content on it. Cheers, bud.
A bit unrelated, but I picked up from my local thrift store a Samsung LN37D550 w/ remote. It was the best bang for the buck HDTV for 2011. It has 2 Component Inputs, 4 HDMI ports, VGA, with SPDIF/Toslink. I'm happy it has these many inputs for my Xbox (Component), Modded Wii (Component), GameCube with GCHD (HDMI), Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Fire Stick on HDMI. My ideal setup is complete. No more disconnecting component cables...
The TV was $59.99. I'm still a bit shocked this TV was worth over $1K 12 years ago.

May have to consider this one as BBS do make quality products (Toro for Dreamcast) but I may wait for a revision, hope they take your feedback. Hanging off the back does seem like it's asking for trouble.
Not in a rush to get one, I got the official Microsoft component cables (but I need a better component to HDMI Scaler), the Monster Cables (hooked up to my CRT), & the Pound Cable (which by itself is crap but when connected to a micro USB power supply isn't bad).

Nice to see another video like this :) wish they’d make a great wii hdmi adapter. The wii and ps2 are kind of in the same not when it comes to hdmi adapters. It helps but the output just isn’t all that great when it comes to displaying on modern TVs haha

My fav is like $200 but I can't recall the name right now. it has like 6 AV ins, 4 S video ins, 2 component ins, one VGA in and one RF in. The DVD that came with it says that VGA port is for the Sega Dreamcast and the RF port is for like an old Atari 2600 or an TV antenna. That the HDMI in port is their so you sill use the port on you TV for things like your Cable Box.
It's interesting that you mentioned later Xbox models looking bad with HDMI solutions. I'm glad you said that because I have a 1.6 Xbox and it doesn't look great with the Chimeric adapter. I thought about buying an MClassic and figured it would help but that doesn't sound like that's the case. What Xbox revisions do you recommend with an HDMI solution?
Earlier models, but also make sure the caps are good or get them replaced.

I love this kind of videos please do more of these in the future. Sorry I am behind on your videos and I am going to catch up. But I have the chimerick one. I got very lucky he had a run of making 75 in a month. If I have that one would you get this one? I love my akura box from them. They are so cool and have had problems with it and they always respond and have helped me. Great video.
The quality is essentially the same. The difference is the extras and potentially the sound depending on which Chimeric version you got. Ultimately, it's up to you depending on your needs.

Even with my 2003 modded xbox i am getting a super pin sharp image with component connection to a hdmi converter. I guess you just need to try various converters...i ordered about 4 from amazon, 3 were rubbish but one gave a superb clean picture, so kept that one and sent the other 3 back.
I have the pound cable already it's ok not the best but it's kinda does what it's supposed to do. you're right though do not get the component cables that are $8 from eBay or Amazon those do not work trust me I have had two of those cables and the same issue the signal would cut out or not show at all, so I got custom component cables that were made with Xbox 360 cables from a seller on ebay works amazing $40 Worth it. Since my Xbox is modded with Evolution X I use the hard drive instead of the disk drive works fine it reads all signals so I would recommend that seller you won't be disappointed.
So I have the chimeric adapter but the image flickers in and out on my modern 4K tv. It mostly displays nothing but I can get an unstable picture when not much is happening like on menus of games. The odd thing is I get a perfectly stable picture when hoscaling through the mClassic using the chimeric adapter and upscaling it (the issue happens when using the mClassic as a 480p pass through). But there are some games where I don’t like the look of the mClassic upscaling. Any ideas what’s going on here?
Your TV likely doesn't like 480p.
I'm using a modded xbox 360 component cable. The image is very clean but I feel like the saturation has gone down significantly.
Adam so does this mean the special edition Halo transparent green Xbox gives off a shitty signal?
I would be all over a HDMI and Scart version of this. Personally, I use the Xbox either on my CRT via Scart or HDTV (via Component). I wouldn't need the component if I have the HDMI as the old CRT over here doesn't have such a connection. Extremely rare connection type on CRT TVs over here in Europe. Agreed on the port holding the device - That would be a deal breaker for myself as I often have my cables dropping down behind the cabinet.
Regarding the dual output, how does that work in this case? Does it output the same resolution on both connections? It would be great if I could play on CRT at 480i over Scart but capture 480P/720P from the HDMI port. I'm imagining that's probably not possible though

I know that Xbox is real but there's something about it that makes it look superimposed into the shot like it was added in during editing, but maybe it's just me lol

I’ve heard that the XboxHD+ fixes the video problems on the later 1.6 Xboxes. Is this true?
I'm not sure but that would make sense.
Hey does the "Xbox HD+" (I know its a complicated install like the DCdigital) fix the later Xbox's video quality? Could be a neat way to "save" xboxs with particularly awful video quality if so.
To be honest, I don't know. I think it's only compatible with the earlier models. But I'm genuinely not sure.
The video "pops" have nothing to do with the revision of your Xbox. Your capacitors need to be changed. A recap on the PSU and motherboard will clean that video up. Unfortunately, like many retro systems, the capacitors were cheap and with age have started to go bad. Please don't blame it on the 1.4s. I have a recapped Mountain Dew Xbox as well and using the Chimeric adapter I don't have these issues.

I appreciate your review and I appreciate and am happy that these good quality cables are being made. But...if all the xbox consoles after OG xbox are backwards compatible then why bust out your OG xbox on your modern tv?
I will answer my own question with two answers 1. Not all games are BC (yet) 2. You just really want to play with your OG xbox..
But still why? I feel like they need to focus this quality work on cables for say the Dreamcast!! Please! So i don't have to spend 400 or more on a modded DC
Well, only 66/1000 titles are compatible. So, that's easily the biggest reason.
Second, this already does exist for the Dreamcast.

you can get any original xbox to hdmi cables or av to hdmi converter that works all the same and they are always cheap and easy to find online! i have an av to hdmi converter that works well and j alos own the xbox 360 s and the xbox one x and all are connected to hdmi!😂🤣🤣🤣

Not really, I actually adamantly stand against CRTs.
Pound cables are famously not good. If they're sufficient for you, cool. But they're objectively substandard as a product.
@@AdamKoralik You make it seem like the pound is unusable. It was wildly popular on release because the market doesn't think it's a poor product. I played an OG xbox for hours and picture quality never crossed my mind. seems like you are making a big deal out of an easy solution.

I've bought 2 adapters and they didn't work on 2 of my 4k tvs. I had them hooked up through hdmi with a regular hdmi cable and no picture.

@@AdamKoralik I bought the Kaico Original Xbox to HDMI Converter and then I bought a unbranded HD Link Cable for Original Xbox Original Xbox HDMI Converter on Amazon. Neither one worked on 2 4k TVs

Two, how did you have them connected? Meaning was it like Xbox --> Adapter --> TV or like Xbox --> Adapter --> Receiver --> HDMI Switch --> TV or something?

By the way I like the Mountain Dew XBOX although its color makes it look like the Green Mighty Morphin Power Ranger made a licensing agreement with Microsoft to make a custom made OG XBOX!
As soon as I saw you unbox this I was excited for the video, I have a Kuro and the quality is phenomenal. I also think this ought to have a cable just for peace of mind even though the connector itself is substantial enough compared to any other system.

I have a xbox V1.1 (2002 8-26) and purchased the Xedusa and im getting no audio. I read the disclamier on their website and it said only xbox v1.0 have an issue with audio. Does anyone know what could be going on?
Thanks Adam! I have a couple Xedusas on the way. Looks like I should explore some kind of 3D printed support to take any stress off the console's AV port.
12:30 just replace the screws with ones long enough to reach the bottom of the Xbox so the adapter rests on the table. Just a dollar or two for peace of mind.

@@AdamKoralik hi I have a question I bought a original xbox I am using the original xbox high definition av pack but in my xbox settings for video I only have the open for normal or wide screen no 480p or 720p option?
The resolution options (besides Normal, Lettter, & Widescreen) are these only available when a HD pack or HD cables are connected? I ask because I have never seen those options the 480P, 720P, nor the 1080i within the dashboard and I do have the official Microsoft HD pack. Maybe mines broken I guess, my CRT gave up the ghost recently and my 1.6b xbox is terrible on my display.
What region console are you using? The HD pack as shown in this video?
If like me your in a Pal region your console will not display those video options unfortunately.

You need to test the electron shepherd hdmitoxbox adapter. I mod and sell xboxs and have used every hdmi adapter on the market including the xedusa. The electron shepherds adapter looks as good, if not better than the chimera and xedusa. Obviously don't even consider the pound or hyperkin, they look terrible.
I guess the PAL region systems can use the modded Xbox for the higher resolutions?
or does it require the NTSC region to work? (Xedusa)
(Why Microsoft chose to not make the PAL region have those options as well is beyond me)
If the PAL unit is modded you can unlock the higher resolution modes.
So glad I was able to grab a chimera from your previous video about it before the wait list.
The good thing for me is. I have good component cables from Japan ( both Microsoft box as very solid 3rd party cable and very good secondary screen that supports component in. So for the forceable future I am Golden
Why is it so hard to get a cheap good cable shouldn't be a problem with the time and tech we have I hate it the xbox is a pain when it comes to get just a normal fine hd resolution adapter they all want to make money of these adapters I by myself have a cheap xbox to hdmi from China and I think these are the same as these companies like kaico and pound they also make their cables in China they are the same just with a different logo on It and it was under 10 euro and yes I see the problems that comes with these cables but for the price I can't complain. But its really a pain to get a good adapter and if your livin in Europe it's probably more of a pain than livin in USA or something.
That's a pretty loaded question. But the short answer is, demand is low, the proper R&D costs money, and mass production in China is coming to an end globally.
@@AdamKoralik yeah sadly you are right it's just frustrating because I also want a good affordable cable. Even though I'm fine with my cheap one at least for now it's better than nothing but they are bad isolated and it's more of a lucky catch to get a nice one.
Beharbros are quality products I have the Akura you (Adam) reviewed for the Dreamcast excellent video quality. Now I am using the Retro Tink Multiformat plugging my Microsoft component cables into Retro Tink. As for the hanging issue out of console I am thinking already changing out the four screws to longer ones. The Akura has two screws in each corner anchor receiver that tighten up against one another. Looks like the Xedusa has a similar build. I believe you forgot to mention the price Adam, $65.00 plus $10.00 shipping. Stated as pre-orders going out August 2022 on Beharbros site. I rarely mention prices unless they're extreme. Typically because of sales and coupons and all that, prices change, but hypothetically the information won't.

@adamkoralik thanks to you man I’ll be able to use my Xbox for my modern tv when I had bought my original Xbox the video cords were broken so I haven’t been able to play yet however now with your vid I’ll be able to finally use it, my mom had one when I was younger n I loved playing it it got stolen so I bought both me and her one again lol
I just purchased the xedusa, I'm having amazing video quality but I'm not receiving any audio, I'm using it with hdmi cable, do you know what the issue can be?
Uh, no typically that should just work. I guess you can check the sound settings of the system itself. Beyond that, possibly your TV or receiver is having a problem?

The hanging in the air part is very unsettling because one wrong move and you can break it off from the board.
7:45 I can't remember the name of it but there's an alternative to the HD AV Pack that's supposedly 1/3 cheaper than the $75 original packs. But it's component only. Here this HDMI adapter looks to be made from the same person who made... No wait, I'm not finding it on their website. This is something else. REMIND ME THE NAME OF THE COMPONENT COMPETITOR TO THE HD AV PACK! Aw, yes, the XOSVP.

A very strange design choice. I use a genuine shortened xbox360 component cable with an OGxbox plug, cost me £3 as i followed a tutorial. My component signal then passes through into a lag free component to Hdmi box. A bit messy with cables, but works a treat :) and cost about £20 all in.

It appears the Xedusa as of 9/4/2022 is currently not listed for purchase on their website. I’m assuming that they did that because the demand was probably much higher than what they expected since no one really makes a good solution for the XBOX that’s readily available and isn’t breaking the bank too much. I ordered mine about a month ago and am still waiting. I’d say if you want to order this then just understand that you may be waiting a while because of the demand. I don’t work for them this is just a customer who is making an assumption.
Edit: do not assume they’re some horrible company who won’t get back to you or sells bad products. I worked with them when I got my Gekko. They guided me in the right direction after I got it because I swear I thought the device they sent me was broken but really it was my Dreamcast not supplying 5v power to the AV port and their customer service sent me emails on what the problem was and how to fix it.
P.S. I bought the Gekko and mclassic based on Adams recommendations and it works beautifully with my 13 game consoles so thanks!
Honestly, safe bet.
The main reason the component output is great is because I can use my Open Source Scan Converter to line double the 480p image which looks great. I've been using a 360 OEM component cable modded for the OG Xbox so it's pretty good, the most appealing aspect about this is the Toslink port so I can use improved audio with my sound system. Definently getting this!
Thought I should mention, Microsoft made another version of the component cables besides the box. They’re more like conventional console component cables, with the toslink port located on the part you plug into the console.
I wonder if beharbros will make an HDMI adapter with an upscaler for PS2.
How do you even hook that up? Does that whole thing just hang out the back of the xbox hahaha.

Hello!! So I have a very nice fully modded 1.6 version xbox and I also was lucky enough to snag a chimeric hdmi a few years ago and an mclassic and a very high end tv with HDMI 2.1. Now my 1.6 was manufactured around approx 2005 and I had also remembered hearing rumors that people would say that the later machines didn't put out as crisp of graphics due to crappier(cheaper) parts/chips etc used as you mentioned. So after listening to a ton of people debate it on reddit I actually think you are correct that the earlier versions will put out crisper graphics. I play a few 720p games on my 1.6 and even with my chimeric and mclassic, from day 1 something just always felt a bit off almost exactly as you showed with some jagged edges etc. So my plan is to get another machine modded, preferably a 1.1 or 1.0 version or anything manufactured 2002ish and I'm excited to see the difference!
You should do some (somewhat) scientific analysis and update id there's actually any difference. I also have a 1.6 Xbox, Chimeric and Mclassic.
Xedusa is just mindless design... seriously. A wired cable to go into the Xbox. Solved.

I hate to say it but despite the long rant about 'degradation', most other youtubers and places have figured out those issues and can upload very clean and high definition and accurate captures.....
If your having issues, then its a matter of individual implementation...and not "its just how it is" overall.
While there's always better equipment and software that can reduce the problem, but nothing I do can alter how UA-cam's compression methods, people's bandwidth preferences, or their viewing setup works.
Adam is there an HDMI adapter available for the PS2? I ask because my OG XBOX is Deader than Elvis Presley & yet my PS2 Slim still works!

Pound: Okay image, no 4:3 option and better with mClassic but that 4:3 isn’t proper as it squashes the black bars as well to force the aspect ratio. A little off but still okay.
Xbox AV Pack: Just wanted so say that there’s an OEM Component Cables version that’s less bulky. Works great with my RT5X.
Chimera: I had one like that from TekNemesis but I had interference jail bars. Eventually sold it as they showed up in my captures. Worked fine other than that.
For this one I’d just place some felt pad stickers on the bottom to help with the dangling.
I bought an xbox with an error screen. Luckily, was able to get it looked at where it was determined that the hdd went bad, and on top of that, it's a 1.0. Got that sucker TSOP modded and now put in a 250GB SSD. While I do habe the HD component pack, this would complete this beast in terms of mods.

@@KrazyKrzysztof officially, it does not. You need a long enough 80 pin ide cable and an IDE -> SATA adapter board. The other thing is the console does need to be soft modded in some way, as the 8/10GB drive on the xbox is supposed to be locked to that console.
Electron Shepherd is also doing a plug n play HDMI adapter for the og Xbox. Digital audio doesn't work on 1.0 xboxs otherwise it's better than some of those cheapo's
For absolute best image quality on 01-02 xbox, xedusa vs original official component?
They'll be the same as far as output, at that point it boils down to the rest of your setup.
The hyperkin HDMI cable works great for me. I noticed some of these cables need external power to run full speed. If you're not getting a clean signal with your adapter you could be bad capacitors in your Xbox

I have multiple 1.6 xbox's and I've never noticed the video looking bad, or even looking worse than my 1.0s. Even with the official HD pack. Maybe it's there and I'm not noticing it, or maybe it depends on specifically what late model you have? idk, this is the first I'm hearing of this, but good info to know.
It's just a factor, bad caps is also one.
I experienced this with Cerbios. The current version (2.3.4 iirc) has flicking red and blue color issue on Composite 1.6 revision only. And I happen to only have 1.6 in my possession.
I found that i own the madcatz one with the ps2 as well. Honestly not bad when i basically got em for nothing. I mainly use S-Video though since thats all my CRT can do

can you please do a 5.1 test on chemeric I have the version with SPDIF and i think that version has stereo & 5.1 instead of HDMI 5.1

I also have a dew Xbox and it shows up as a 1.2 but was made in 2003

Adam I got a problem.
First my Xbox is a launch model and recently had it cleaned up and recapped with no special mods at all and I did disable 1080i.
Now I'm using the Xedusa with a mclassic and for some reason the screen flickers and eventually goes black on my 4k tv. WTF?
I tried it on 2 other regular TV's and it works fine, but my Sony 4k ( my best tv ) is where I want to use it.
Any idea? I heard there is something you can do by pressing down on both sticks and L & R triggers at the same time on the menu screen to change resolution?
I do have a spare Xbox and that one does work on that 4k tv just fine. Freagin weird.
I have a 1.6b revision Xbox (Crystal NTSC Canadian variant) the Pound HDMI V2 with usb power plugged in cuts in and out intermittently. The issue is present on a 2021 Sony tv and a smaller 10 year old Sony tv (so it’s not the tv) The system was fully recapped. I’m wondering if I have a bad Pound converter or if there is some specific issue to this variant? Any options or solutions would be appreciated

I have the Advanced av pack, retrotink 5x and a portta component to HDMI. I use the av pack and portta with the mclassic on a 1.4 and for my eyes the image is fine. lol I bought the Xedusa, should be here any day, They literally mailed it within a couple of hours of me buying it.
