Best Tull since Roots to Branches. This is a BAND, a band that is sizzling. Many great tracks and all are very enjoyable to the prog rock ear! I hear Mayhem Maybe, Reasons for Waiting, Passion Play, SFTW, Stormwatch, Divinities, Broadsword and Roots to Branches. I like TZG a lot but RökFlöte is in the top 10 of Tull’s releases. Love it. For those of you having trouble with the mix, make sure you are setting up your source player (receiver) and source sound (speakers, headphones) correctly. Dolby Atmos surround sound mix is incredible if you set it up right. For example, if you are listening on your iPhone with AirPods using Apple Music, their implementation of Atmos sucks. And finally, for those that know Tull well, it takes longer and repeated listens to get in to the more complex, dramatic work.
I respect where you are coming from and essentially it’s a good album but there are some small areas where I think it might be better done differently.
@@TheAlbumReviewchannel I suppose that can be said of any artistic piece of work. All in all, we still have Tull making great prog rock in 2023. That is amazing.
That’s a good point. Now my band Genesis never made any new music after 1995(We Can’t Dance) and just came back for the farewell tours whereas Tull are producing new music. That is a real bonus and show no signs of stopping at this point. I would have loved some new music from the fab three to get my teeth into. So all Tull fans have that at least.
Yes, the early band's name changed regularly so they could get new bookings at venues they had previously played at (and where they had been unenthusiastically received). Jethro Tull was the name they had when they got good enough to get a rebooking on their own merit, so it stuck.

Hi there. Thanks for watching. Much appreciated. To have new music from the band is so cool no matter what. My band Genesis lived off past glories for nearly 25 years with no new music. I liked the rock feel but just felt some of the tracks could have been allowed to develop more. Anyways, thanks again for your input and support. All the best. Dave✅✅
I think that the amount he has smoked in his life has had an impact on his voice. His voice was suffering in 1980 and he had not toured the world for 50 years at that point. They did have a very heavy touring schedule through the 70s, recorded albums like clockwork, and that puts a lot of pressure on his voice. He also had a bit of an unusual range and singing style, he wasn't a very trained singer, or trained anything really. But there are plenty of singers who tour for years and don't have the fall-off of their voice that Ian has had. That all said, Jethro Tull is my favorite band, Ian is one of my heroes, and you have to give it up for anyone who is still as energetic and creative at the point in their career that Ian's at. But when I watch film from 1969, etc. and he's smoking like a chimney, I don't think that was a positive factor. So to say he 'is not suffering from X' is downplaying the potential impact. Is it the only factor? No.
Hi Jason. A really well argued summary here. I admire Anderson as well for similar reasons. Anyone still writing new stuff at 75 gets my vote every time.
@@dominiclarosa489 Hi Dominic. I don't mind his singing ... I think Ian has a good idea of the parameters of his voice and puts it the best use he can, and it worked very well on the 3 preview tracks released in the last 3 months. I don't care for the rapping or spoken word stuff at all, unless it is just a short comment. So, much of this album aside from the preview tracks is a little distracting for me. There are the 3 preview tracks that i really like a lot, and then there is the rest of the album, most of which I have not habituated myself to at this point I can hear brilliance in all of them - BUT, there are elements that distract me and put me off a bit - like the lady speaking in Icelandic for about a minute. Who wants to listen to that when they want to hear music - particularly Tull music. I'm not watching a documentary, or wanting to be lectured to. Also, for a Nordic inspired album ... there are a ton of Eastern scales and chords. I noticed that Living In The Past similiarity too! Good perception. All in all, good review. I like the shorter, preview version of Navigators. The full version loses its umph by going off in different directions like ADHD. Nice review.

Good review Dave.....After listening the three singles first, the whole album turned out almost exactly as I expected. Too many songs suffer from underdevelopment and terribly abrupt endings (Hammer on Hammer was an early sign what is about to come) and that's the main flaw of the album in my opinion. On the brighter side there are quite some nice moments there but I think that The Zealot Gene was much more nicely rounded album (musically) and especially more consistent even if perhaps not that adventurous as RF is......
Hi there. Thanks for watching and leaving your thoughts. There was an opportunity to develop some of the songs but that didn’t happen. I suppose it is what it is and Anderson will have his reasons no doubt. At 75, I hope that I will be as productive.
Mr. Anderson is a control freak and don't give space to the band members. His detailed demos sent to the band (as we can see on the pages of the booklet) is not a group thing, it's a solo album... Writed, Composed, Demoed, Mixed, Produced and Arranged by Ian Anderson. Not good. BTW, can't hear any memorable bass line (TBH, i barely can hear the bass on the tracks) and the drum recording is weak and dead. Vocals? Soaked with huge reverb. Zealot Gene have some memorable melodies, yet with the same weak production. Rokflote don't have any memorable melodies. Sorry
Hi Bruno. Thanks for watching and adding your thoughts. Some interesting points raised that many will agree with. It’s difficult to get spot on but this reluctance to let the band loose on many of the pieces is a shame. Thanks again for adding your thoughts. All the best Dave✅✅
You are completely right, Anderson is the only one that makes all in this poor band , he fired the old members as M Barre , A Giddings and D Perry due these members have contributed a lot with the music with their ideas but Anderson did not accept new ideas from Barre , Giddings and Perry and fired , the result is a band that makes boring music . A far, far better album than “the zealot gene” but most of these songs should have been longer. And Ian’s limited vocal range doesn’t help. But there are some good moments.

Except for the guitar, very disappointing. Ian's vocal melodies track the music exactly creating little musical tension - Norse mythology is of little interest to most, and the poetry readings are just wasted space; very often sound like outtakes from TAAB2. Overall, it's quite a throwaway boring LP like "A", The Zealot Gene and Homowhatever. Save your money.
Eh... I'd take that with a grain of salt since he totally allowed his image-- and his alone-- to be associated with the band to the extent people thought that was his name, not the name of the band.
@nsbd90now That's why it is in the all too frequently asked questions on the band's website. Ian seems to feel that answering this question for the umpteenth time during an interview is a waste. After their residency at the Marquee and the band started to take off, Ian felt it was too late to change the name. Take that any way you'd like....
@nsbd90now He was actually quoted in an interview that he was "embarrassed" by the name, but since the band were receiving positive reviews so they couldn't change the name. He admitted he felt "guilty for not liking it, yet keeping it." That seems to indicate he didn't like it then, and he doesn't like it now. Anderson also said that any confusion about his name and the name of the band usually came from people not familiar with the band.
