I've listened to a LOT of prog on youtube and was surprised this never came up in my searches. After hearing it I absolutely agree, it really is every bit as good as you claim. Now saved and I'll be listening to it again, and again. Thank you so much for pointing out its existence!
This album is something special, and re-releases can be found at not too much cost. Tony Durant is based in Australia and still making music - worth checking out.
I found this album a few months back in my vinyl collection, have never listened to it but love the front cover and took it out to draw myself! Sent it to a fb artist friend as it reminded me of her art,she told me about Lady Fuchcia and Gormangast! Cool 😎
@@tonydurant5 So happy to see you comment here! I couldn't find your email, so I went to the Fuchsia page and sent you a message through the contact link. Hopefully you'll see it. Thanks for the comment and the wonderful music!
Did a little listen... and that cd is on its way to my house. He doesn't sound as angry as Peter Hammill of VDGG does, and I love me some VDGG! "Killer" is my favorite song by them.
new to the channel, but i really like the way you talk about music. have you listened to paix by catherine ribeiro + alpes? great french prog with some beautiful vocals and dreamy production. i have mixed feelings about the first track, but the rest of the album absolutely rocks!
Thanks for the tip. Really interesting album for all the reasons you mention, although it is clearly "of its time". I then listened to the second album from 2013, and ... if anything it's even better than the debut. I ended up buying the entire back catalogue on bandcamp. You could easily devote another video to Fuchsia II ! Hard to compare Fuchsia to any other artist. I get what you mean about Tony Durant's voice sounding a little like Peter Hammill, although I also hear some of the crisp enunciation of Al Stewart, or the earnest intimacy of Nick Drake. But unlike any of those, Durant's voice has a vulnerable, fragile, untrained quality, almost like Syd Barrett or Robert Smith, which is not a bad thing at all. I love all the strings, which really add a lovely "baroque pop" flavour, but without the jauntiness that haunts that genre. So great to have a string trio in the band proper, rather than just session musicians. In attitude, it reminds me a little of Comus (another unique and rare psychedelic prog folk act), although the sound is quite different. Really great and interesting music, for sure, both the original album and the more recent releases.
Interesting derivation of the group's name. You might take a detour into the catalogue of The Strawbs (from the same period), particularly the track "Lady Fuschia" from the album Bursting at the Seams.
Interesting story with Spirigyra: My mom brought them up randomly one day because she had the record when she was younger and we searched the internet for them. Every song I played for her was completely wrong! Turns out there are two bands with the same name! I agree, the folk Spirigyra is awesome!
I listened to this and it's very good. Very much in the Yes-Genesis-Syd Barrett vein. Do I detect the influence of the Left Banke or is it just a sort of coincidence due to the influence of classical music ? Excellent composition & performances. As an fan of Mervyn Peake's "Gormenghast Trilogy," the band's name has a special resonance.
Before this video appeared on my suggested list I watched a reaction video to a Roger Waters song. Since you mentioned him at the end of the video I wonder if the algorithm suggests videos based on the audio of the video, not just the title and tags? I'm on the last song on Fuchsia now, I'm going to check out The Gormenghast Triology as well. 🙂 Edit: oh, btw The album and Fuchsia 2 is on Tidal.
On my main channel I mentioned that I used to live in Takarazuka, Japan and the ads for the video were all Japanese! I think algorithm considers every word!
very glad to find this channel ! i listened to fuchsia today and really liked it ! doesn't one of the singers kinda sound like nico or is it just me ? 😅
I listened to some of it. I appreciate the ambition and the arrangements. Lead vocals could be stronger. But it is so rare and esoteric. I am glad that it exists.
Hello! I am really happy i just discovered your channel. Could you please listen to a psych/prog rock band from Greece called Pete & Royce? They released a gem back in 1980 called "Suffering of tomorrow".
I remeber a great song by them that goes: Mary used to play the piano, now she's smoking marijuana, but it's not on this album. Where did it come from?
We've discussed this on the channel before, but we will not be putting any copyright music up. All of this is very easily searched and then you can listen to a lot more than 5 seconds!
Just ran across this video. Interesting concept. However your script could use an edit. Some explanations ramble and are repetitive. Also expand your vocabulary with respect to modifiers and adjectives. You say incredible the way a.certain generation always uses awesome. Finally, would it kill you to give us an actual sample of this music?
Good idea for a channel but I think including one minute samples of say 2-3 songs would really interest people a bit more. So really too much talk and no idea how the music sound, I hope that helps? Cheers.

Hi Tony D here from Sydney. Thanks ( I don’t even know your name!!) for that wonderful talk. I’m still writing and playing, playing some of those 1971 classics. I’m so grateful you still listen and appreciate my lityle attempts to teach people. You’re great. Would love to hear from you. Amazing xx
You can find Fuchsia (1971) FULL ALBUM on UA-cam.

Agreed! Thanks for watching!
Just gave it a listen, its probably one of my favorite albums ever now
It is an incredible record, I'm glad you're giving it a listen!
Thanks for sharing this treasure. Also have been a lifelong fan of the Gormenghast books.
The self-titled LP by Titus Groan (1970) is a great 'Gormenghast inspired" psych-prog one too (esp "Hall of Bright Carvings").

If you value your artist's soul - NEVER listen to it ... because it'll turn your mind into garbage.
@SelectCircle thank you most kindly for the advice friend! 🙏 I won't lol
Back to the Fuchsia! Sorry, I just had to.
Hahaha! Perfect!
I had to read it 3x before I got it. Nice play on words
Tony here from Fuchsia. Please email me. I don’t even know your name !! Thank you for the great review.

Great video, man! Thanks for sharing this!

I'm glad you got a copy of this record, it is worth it!
Mervyn Peake illustrated the trilogy. There is a picture of Fuchsia, a drawing I think
Naming yourself after Fuchsia Groan is setting the bar REALLY high.
real cool will check out

I've got to dive deeper into the Strawbs! Thanks for the rec!
If you like this then check out British folk sike band called Spirigyra.

I thought, the name of the band is Spirogyra.😊 They had this wonderful record "Bells, Boots and Shambles"
Pentangle may be a closer fit
Another amazing group

very glad to find this channel ! i listened to fuchsia today and really liked it ! doesn't one of the singers kinda sound like nico or is it just me ? 😅

Was this what the Sex Pistols were singing about? "No Fuchsia! No Fuschsia for you!"

You are living proof that nice guys with good hearts should never review art.
That album is HORRIBLE.
I remeber a great song by them that goes: Mary used to play the piano, now she's smoking marijuana, but it's not on this album. Where did it come from?
It's on the 2005 re-release - ua-cam.com/video/YppPLSwosJc/v-deo.html

The release year is mentioned within the first 40 seconds of the video

It is a terrific album but the sound is absolutely horrible. Bad mix. Bad production. Bad balance. And I think that may have hurt them.
