      Hi Richard, had a great day photographing Kingfishers today. One thing I have noticed between the 1Dx and the 5DSR is that if the iso is around 800, I prefer the photos of the 5DSR because of the extra detail, what are your thoughts on that? I had never compared the two before today.

    Very photogenic little critters, I'm lucky as we have a small troop about forty minutes away. The down side is there's usually a few photographers who won't respect the squirrels space or habitat for that close up shot, how close do we need to be! @RichardBirchett  3 роки тому

      They really are it's just a shame I don't get to see them very often! That's the Manfrotto 502AH, love it for video when you get the balance right, lol... What is the issue with balance @@RichardBirchett? Its important to always set the tripod level before using it?
      Can image pans don't work out well if the tripod isn't level... Does it have a good level bubble built in?

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  3 роки тому +1

      It’s great once you get the balance sorted but wind or slight movement with large prime lenses it can be a little tricky and the settings become loose so it’s just worth keeping an eye on them. Great for video, nice and smooth and okay for still for fairly easy tracking subjects, can’t beat a gimble! Cheers R 👍

    This is going to sound a bit critical Richard and in a way it is. Not of you personally but paid hides in general. You tend to get very similar images from each paid hide and in the end they don't look original. If you check out the website of this hide you will see many images very similar to the ones you have. They just don't feel unique or original to me and my concern is that some hide operators use kingfisher tanks that endanger the birds and birds of prey lured in by the constant provision of killed animals attached to posts. Baiting wild animals or birds for paid hide photography is something I wouldn't get involved in ethically or photographically. Wildlife should be just that i.e. wild.

      Hi Steve, not a problem my friend and well pointed out as I really do agree with you on many counts, but like I said I just wanted to get my Red Squirrel experience as I've never really seen them up close before. Really great to hear you point of view as I think that it's something we as wildlife photographers need to be aware of. Thanks again R 👍

      @@RichardBirchett Hi Richard. I can understand your reason fully. However paid hides in general are of concern to me and many others in fact the RSPCA have been called in to a certain opperation in Scotland several times now. You only have to look through social media to see people who have paid serious money for a session in one of these hides with a Sparrowhawk sat on a log with a bird that's been placed there as bait. And each image looks the same. Or the ospreys on a heavily stocked trout farm, I could go on. For me it has nothing at all to do with wildlife photography. Surely the thrill is going out finding the species you are after and getting the shot. Your Merlin shot is worth thousands of these baited hide images.

      Hi Steve, I’ve heard similar but apart from my own bird hide in my garden I think this is the only one I’ve ever paid for and probably one of my last, Tom the owner is very responsible and has done so much for conservation and species management. Thanks for pointing this out to me and others, I think check before you pay or visit is key! As you well know I’m not really one for baiting species, and this is a good reminder. All the best R 👍
