The house I grew up in was a 10 minute walk from that bridge. My Dad showed me the plaque when I was a kid, but it was completely over my head. Not until I studied Mathematics in university did I understand what quartenions were or the significance of Hamilton’s discovery.
Came here from the peer review! That is a nice explanation of quaternions, on the actual bridge where it is discovered (!!!) Would love to visit there at some point.
I wouldn't entirely recommend it 😃 The surrounding area is residential / power station. The river has quite a few beer cans in it (no shopping trolleys at least, when I went). We filmed it just before some teenagers showed up and sat on it. Off-screen is a large quantity of graffiti on the bridge (not world-changing-equation graffiti on this occasion ;) ). You get the plaque, and then at the nearby train station, the equation appears again on the ground. If you're in Dublin for some other reason, maybe take the train over for a few minutes. But we had the idea of doing Hamilton's walk, and to go to Dublin in order to do it. Much of it is actually closed off - we couldn't even see the observatory. So, don't do what we did!

This explanation was really handy.
Had you seen these dance moves before? This is great! Best monkey-friendly explanation of quaternions I've ever seen.
The art of voguing is contained in the quaternions 😆 great explanation!!
Super elegant explanation!
Woo yeah 👏
