I planted pole green beans in pots and they produced so much I got tired of eating them every day. The plants finally died back in the heat, but when the weather cooled a bit, I went out one day and they had come back and were full of beans again. I just made vegetable soup yesterday, and had plenty of beans to add to it.
I thank you Danny and Wanda I followed your advice of taking my food off the ground and expected to have surgery later in summer so I desided to plants a few sweet potato slips in containers to my surprise they produced two 5 gallon buckets of beautiful sweet potatoes and even while healing from surgery I was able to harvest thank you May GOD bless you both and you farms for all you do
My farmer husband has been out of commission since April because of back trouble. I'm switching over to "small" gardening in raised beds and containers. Working so far!!!
No drought in Florida. Almost 5 inches in the last 24 hours and a bit more to come. Containers do not need much water at a time, they need watering more often because the dry out quickly. I have feral cats around my place, the did a number on the squirrels, amazing to watch a cat chasing a squirrel through the oak trees. Unfortunately they think freshly planted container pots make perfect litter boxes.
Hey Brother Danny and Wanda it's good seeing you all again! My Husband and I have been very busy planting our seeds and doing other chores around the house. When we started our garden 4 yrs. ago , we planted all of our plants in containers and we loved it. Everything grew in abundance! We also put different trays under our containers which kept our soil wet even when it rain. Therefore, we didn't use a lot of water. We didn't want to dig up the yard because it's to much work for us at our age. My Husband is 80 and I'm 75 yrs. old and using containers if just fine for us. Well take care and God Bless. 🙏❤️❤️🙏
We have both. But I will say we have absolutely loved our raised bed. So we are slowly moving toward more raised beds and container growing. Like you and your hubby we are up in years and they so much easier to take care of.
I'm finally learning what we want to eat. Don't know why it took so long (years of gardens). Carrots and onions are at the top of our list! I see your citrus. Through the years, when deer hated my citrus leaves, now it's what they want! Thank you, Danny and Wanda, for teaching us how you can not stop thinking and being diligent, persevering, and enduring, when working for yourself, especially homesteading. I think you've taught us to depend on the Lord, about to be like Him, caretaking what is in our stewardship, and how to enjoy what He gives. You've shown us how Blessed we are to enjoy this wonderful lifestyle!
I am waiting to get my mineral tubs from a coworker who has a cattle farm I offered him 5.00 each for his good empty tubs I am hoping to get 10 , growing in tubs up off the ground and even grow bags is such a game changer for me now that I am getting older . Great vid Danny
Enjoying your videos. I was born in MS in 1942. I lived in Wiggins for a few years. I moved in 1959 the summer before my HS senior year. That was the class of 1960. It was still a small school w a small graduating class Fond memories of life in Wiggins! Still in touch w a couple of HS friends. Delighted to hear about your life there. I moved a lot in USA & Europe. In MA now & have a small garden. Cleaning out to prepare for first frost (late this fall). I’ve learned how to have a small Winter Garden under low tunnels w special blankets & plastic for Spinach, Kale, Mustard & radishes etc & sweet carrots! “Food Forest”…interesting. 👍😊JClaire
@highsierrasun I usually do More than one planting this year, however, as soon as they came up I let them go to seed cause it was so cold. I'll just harvest the seeds. I got one good planting this year
Hello from Canada. It is so interesting to see how you plant winter crops, so different from here! We are just hurrying to do the yard clean up before it gets too cold, then hunker down under the quilt for the season. It used to snow here at the end of October most years, but now it varies and sometimes it doesn’t deep-freeze until the end of December. I think it should be mandatory to build homes here with four-season sunrooms, so we could all practice some container gardening, as we do get some brilliant sunny days with the cold weather. I imagine in the old days, before TV and computers, a lot of art and crafts like embroidery, quilt-making and wood-carving were done during the cold winter months. It is such a pleasure to see your land and what you are doing with it, especially providing a haven for the wildlife.
That is true when an animal wont leave stuff alone you got to do what you got to do. We had a problem with chip munks i had to start eliminating chip munks.
I had to come back and tell you that my carrots sprouts started in less than a week too. It caught me off guard. I was expecting longer. Planted them this Monday and here it is Friday and I have several sprouts showing today.
I love your gardening videos, especially those in container growing. We live in the city and have limited space on our patio to grow things. I got many great ideas and tips from your videos, thank you.
Sweet potatoes are now going in fabric grow bags. Got more for next year. Too much rain split three quarters of them in a raised bed. Soil wouldn't dry up. Hardly watered this year. Glad I go with determinate tomatoes and short season. Squash bugs come late in summer. The more quickly done, the better. Just plant extra.
Danny and Wanda have y’all considered having the cabin moved to pecan grove? That would give y’all a place to stay if y’all like a vacation away from home. Kind of a staycation lol 😊
THANKYOU guys I love to watch you two I am a very beginner gardener, 1acre 3 raised beds I put in and lots of containers on my deck. You have endless knowledge of planting and everything else it amazes me , THANKYOU for your sharing🩷and BEST OF ALL YOU LOVE JESUS
Good morning! One of the best sources for older NH hay equipment is Joe's Machinery in Pennsylvania, they are in Amish country. They don't have a website but do have a catalog you can view on line and can also order the catalog catalog. You can call them and they are very nice people to do business with and have very good prices. They are very knowledgeable about NH forage equipment. Have a great day!
Growin up my dad bein from Ark/Missouri border raised us here in Indiana. He taught me how to grow cotton, hopps, dew berries, peanuts, plum, and other assorted plants many yu just dont see in Indiana. He loved fried appricot or peach pies for breakfast. We use to nut huntin down in the river bottoms. Peacons, shagbark hickory, black walnut, persimon.
I haven't found a source for mineral tubs just yet... but I recently bought 30 gallon fabric bags and they are so nice to work in. They are 2' diameter and 18" tall... so they support most everything you would want to grow. I just put 10 in my greenhouse and have 60 pepper plants in there now. I'm hoping to get another 20 in a few days to support my cauliflower and cabbage efforts outside until March when I'm excited to plant my Irish Potatoes in them. They aren't expensive at all and I thought I would mention them if other's, like myself, are excited to grow in large containers but can't source them at a reasonable cost.
Love the update on Pecan Grove. I am excited to see your plants growing in mineral tubs cause that's what I'm doing. Haven't gotten mine off the ground yet.. I want to use cinder blocks. This cooler weather and little bit of rain is helping everything. Broccoli and collards are coming along nicely. So glad to see carrots and onions growing. Thank you for explaining "food plots." I haven't been around hunters, though I've heard the term. Glad you're feeding a variety of wildlife. I agree, you two are busy with a capital B. God bless you and keep y'all keepin' on!!
I got some mineral tubs and planted 8 of them with my fruit trees until I can plant in the ground this winter. I have a few more. After seeing your success I plan on planting carrots, onions & garlic in them.
I have to say - I love your channel and the other gardening/ homesteading channels! Yours are the ones that help keep me grounded when the test of the world is going insane! Thankyou so much!!
Love the fact you keep us updated! So much in this video I got more questions than you have time to answer. One in particular maybe concerning pecan trees? Last 2 years mine hasn’t made enough for a pie. Squirrels got every green one. I remember an “Ole timer” telling me to “whoop it with a chain” So this summer I did, at my wife’s shocked and concerned look. Think she wanted me to have psych evaluation! But to the point they loaded up with pecans except for one I didn’t beat up? Any idea, thoughts or ever heard of “whooping pecans trees” to wake them up?
Thank you Danny and Wanda. Hopefully some day I will be able to replicate 1/10th of your skills and knowledge with gardening. Keep on with the great videos, I always learn so much
Hello from Angola Indiana, here again today to gleen more knowledge in planting to improve my future planting. Thank you both again, be blessed and healthy.
Great Video Danny & Miss Wanda it is always interesting & informative. I learn something new everytime I watch your channel. Can't wait to see what else is coming up. Cheers Denise- Australia
I started my fall garden 2 weeks ago half by seed and half full plants I bought at a garden store . My seeds are coming up wonderfully and fast Carrots ,lettuce, pea Kale. I have mine in a small high tunnel. My tomatoes and peppers are still going strong I decided to add more fertilizer. I thought they would be done by now . January and February are our coldest months in the south. I did not plant any pole beans or bush beans because they're not in season but I think I'm going to experiment plant them keep them out of the hard Frost when it comes in. It's worth the try.
I also planted bush beans and some sting beans came up. Planted from same bag last year but not as many sting beans came up as this year. Sting beans came up in my dads bush beans this year. He lives on the other side of the country
The worse the drought gets the more desperate the animals get for food and water, I've had a heck of time with critters here in southeast east Az. Had a gopher chew my magnolia tree right off at the base about two inches thick, makes me so mad.
Rats can jump a decent distance my little sister has a pet one and it jumps from the floor to the couch seats easily enough further I'm sure if he tries hard enough
Hi Danny & Wanda, I will keep Hoss Tools Savannah Sweets in mind from Hoss Tools. No more Thrasher bird. So far I have only done Danver Carrots in containers but very open to other kinds to plant too. Very glad you found a hay baler and hope can find what you need for the threads soon. It's good you know how to do work on things to get them in working order. Makes a big difference to have the know how. Hope you got some good rain there. Glad your doing the food plots for the animals and it will safely draw them in. It's wonderful you have all those trees. Thanks so much for sharing. I always appreciate seeing your property and what your doing. The Lord has blessed you very much with Pecan Grove and offsets the more drought conditions at Deep South. Mega blessings to you both.
Hubby urinating in a jar for me and my pouring it at the four corners of my garden works great to keep the critters away.....also when we clip his hair that goes around it also. Dirty kitty liter is put in the trails of moles....they hate that dirty kitty litter.
If you want put John Deere corn head grease in that gear box. Works great, especially if it worn enough a kit won't do the job. Done this for over 45 years.
I planted pole green beans in pots and they produced so much I got tired of eating them every day. So happy for you. I hope you are feeling better.
My farmer husband has been out of commission since April because of back trouble. I'm switching over to "small" gardening in raised beds and containers. Working so far!!!
Good move. Takes the pressure off him, but you still get some produce. I love winter broccoli and cabbage.
No drought in Florida. Almost 5 inches in the last 24 hours and a bit more to come. Containers do not need much water at a time, they need watering more often because the dry out quickly. Danny, you seem so much happier with pecan Grove property. It's great to see.
I’m having the privilege of going on a tour of the Redmond Salt Mine today. So excited. Thank you for your videos
How wonderful. I have my little 2# bag of salt.
I'm finally learning what we want to eat. Don't know why it took so long (years of gardens). Carrots and onions are at the top of our list! I see your citrus. Same for us. My husband is always looking for broccoli, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers. Everything is irrelevant. LOL
That sounds like a pileated woodpecker.
Good morning brother
I always found it funny how farmers shoot the deer out of their cornfields all summer. Just to take that same corn to pile up to hunt over the fall.
Before the drought, the deer, crows, bluejays, squirrels, turkey, all love pecans. They wipe them out quickly
i bought a pooper scooper to use specifically for harvesting nuts off the ground and fruit from trees
I am waiting to get my mineral tubs from a coworker who has a cattle farm I offered him 5.00 each for his good empty tubs I am hoping to get 10 , growing in tubs up off the ground and even grow bags is such a game changer for me now that I am getting older . Great vid Danny

I planted blue lake bush beans since 2015, saved the seeds and replanted. This year i had climbers, just like pole beans.
They do great here in the high mountains. I usually get 3 pickings..in the enclosed hoophouse.
@highsierrasun I usually do More than one planting this year, however, as soon as they came up I let them go to seed cause it was so cold. I'll just harvest the seeds. I got one good planting this year
You’re both incredibly busy with your projects!
Those old New Holland rakes work very well. They’re also very efficient.

We had our 1st hard frost 10/12/23 here on the south shore of Lake Superior. Rainy. Blessed there's no snow yet😊
Good morning Ms Wanda and Mr Danny. How dare that bird enjoy Ms Wanda's radishes! 🌱.Thank you for sharing all of the updates at Pecan Grove.
Good morning and blessings!💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏
Our mizuna, lettuce, collards, spinach, and mustard is coming up pretty good. And to keep squirrels away I use vinegar
How do you use the vinegar. Squirrels don't let me have anything.
Growin up my dad bein from Ark/Missouri border raised us here in Indiana. My karoda carrots came up really fast too.
My Kuroda carrots are the best popping up as well. I'll be planting more.
Wow Beautiful place there. Love this video.

Just planted Savannah’s from Hoss also. Hope mine do as well.

Delightful tour! Thank you for taking us along.
I always look forward to see your videos and what is going on the homestead & Pecan Grove.
Thank you Danny and Wanda,
Land looks beautiful
Birds like greens ad well , they claim in Midwest crows eat about quarter acre of new shooter corn a day
Wow it's beautiful there great job 😊
Good morning Danny and Wanda. Nice video your land looks beautiful!
I had the same thing happen to beans this year.
Very nice Danny!
I have noticed my pelleted (coated) seeds take just a little longer to sprout than a naked seed.
Yep, but supposed to be easier to handle.
I also planted bush beans and some sting beans came up. Planted from same bag last year but not as many sting beans came up as this year. Sting beans came up in my dads bush beans this year. He lives on the other side of the country
String??
Thanks for all your hard work.
Thanks for the food varieties education😊

Hello from Northern Iowa! I really enjoy your videos! I learn a lot from them. Thank you for all your hard work making them happen!
Enjoyed the video. Great content ! Beautiful place.
Crows come in every year on the pecan trees here at our place.

Goodmorning. Thanks for sharing. It's beautiful property you have there. Looking forward to following It's evolution.
Praise the lord we finally got some rain, and it came slow enough to soak in well. Yay.
If you want put John Deere corn head grease in that gear box. Works great, especially if it worn enough a kit won't do the job. Done this for over 45 years.
🙏🙏🙏🙂♥️👍. Thanks for the updates. 😊

you can try to use a solar cell to keep the battery's charged
As far as the seal goes you can replace oil with grease for no more leakage. Install grease nipple and you are good.
I use wires on all of mine like you have. I also have dog He looks for lizards even
That sounded like big rifle. We use 22 for squirrels.
