Netflix doesn't rush their exclusive shows, it actually keeps people subscribing when they have something to look forward to. And they don't tell you EXACTLY when a show is going to drop until its ready. For example we know Stranger Things next season is coming sometime this year.

Renting a house isn't actually a problem. Given the average amount that people stay at one place, and all the costs of owning, buying a house has a similar unrecoverable cost to renting, meaning the average homeowner is losing roughly as much money as they would renting. This also means that renting and investing in an index fund creates more wealth than buying a house and renting in an index fund in the majority of cases. The problem is people are clueless about finances, education is desperately needed.

Even with digital games and they're higher editions costing between $59-139 on launch I rather have a license to a game where there's some ownership versus a subscription that would remove the games once I stop paying for it. A game subscription model is only good if you wanna try out games or your gonna play a ton of them.
Not just gaming many party of life in physical/mortar and digital services will push subscription models.
Subscription models benefit consumers in the beginning but in the long term they benefit businesses more. Subscription give business recurring money non stop, #2 there's less ownership for customers when it comes to gaming and #3 they're more expensive for the customers than if they chose the yearly annual option
I just hope businesses offer more than 1 business model and not just subscription model only

Subscription services create the incentive to actually make good games. With the regular pricing model, there's no incentive for companies to actually create something that you want to keep playing, they just need to create something you're hyped enough to buy.
Also, subscriptions give incent the company to do more post launch support, instead of forgetting about the game the moment sales drop.

Gonna make a counterpoint to this and say that I don't believe this will happen, at least not how things are now. When you look at something like, say, netflix, the reason people are okay with paying for a subscription is because of how much of a good deal it is. When you get a movie, you get it to watch it once, and then you are finished with it. There's nothing else to do with it, nothing else to buy, you already experienced everything. And you get to watch so many different movies for hardly any money. Because games aren't so two-dimensional, I don't think a subscription model will ever work for games rather than flat out buying them. Sure, you can now try out all types of different games you wouldn't have played otherwise, but to me, it is more akin to renting games, not comparable to purchasing them like we do now. People are less likely to buy microtransactions for a game that they don't own and aren't guaranteed to keep. On top of that, because games are generally replayable, if someone likes a game to play it regularly they aren't going to want to be bound by a subscription to have to play it, unless that subscription is guaranteed to keep that game on it permanently, which in my eyes is the only way that would work out.

While you make some good points, I feel like you miss some bigger points. For instance while subscription model is favourable, a lot of games have a form of these in seasonal passes. Not every developer gains by being on a MS or PS subscription model. You mention Bungie but you fail to address they only agreed to the sale if they could remain across all platform (Destiny 3 won't be PS only). Sony benefits on this deal because of Bungie's expertise in the live service game genre. Something that was listed in the Bungie merger press release.
Also, PS CEO (Jim Ryan) has gone on record to say new games won't go on their future subscription service as "These games cost many millions of dollars, well over $100 million, to develop. We just don't see that as sustainable."
Another point that keeps getting hugely overlooked on the MS side of business is the potential impact from metaverse, as MS see that as part of their strategy (by metaverse think Halo skins in COD and vice versa, connecting franchises is easy money, it's a big drive for MS). I'm not sure if Sony see that as part of their future or at least, not yet.

I won’t buy subscription services and games. If they all go that way, I’ll be perfectly fine playing my old games and ones that have been modded to have custom servers like old COD games on PC and Battlefront. I don’t think people realize how easy it is to not support any of this crap. I play a lot of COD and have over a 6 KD in Vanguard. I only buy the base game and never spend any additional money on the game. I don’t have any subscription streaming services. I don’t play any games that require constant purchases like Destiny or subscription games like WoW. I also only use software like DaVinci Resolve Studio and Affinity Photo that allow for one-time purchases (no subscription crap like Adobe) and open-source software like Blender.
Cutting out all of the crap has been the best decision ever.

Gamepass would have to have 135million subs to make as much revenue as Xbox made last year(16.28billion), and that’s not including the 8.8 billion more that activision made last year. Right now gamepass is at about 25 million subs, which means that there is no way they can rely ONLY on a subscription base model(although it’s their focus). They will have to keep the option of having live service games, microtransactions and selling the game for the full $60 just because of how much it makes for them, and that’s assuming that they don’t want to keep those methods around.
Also, Nintendo continues to prove that as long as you’re in the business of selling games and consoles, all you really need to be a top competitor is to sell games that people love, not to sell the most powerful hardware, or have the greatest value, or even have great 3rd party support.
    EDIT:
It’s worth noting that the number of subs needed is changed if they change the price of gamepass.
It’s also worth noting that my calculations were made assuming every subscriber paid the base $10 a month and not the $1 for three months or $15 for gamepass ultimate.

You would have to be a legit sped to sub to anything considering torrents exist. Even the PlayStation I stopped using because you’re paying enough for the internet, car insurance, rent, gas & electric and you don’t need to spend more if you can get the same thing for free via Steam, torrents, movie streaming sites or other means. These are all luxury items and if you want to be a shill consumer to the point of not bothering for workarounds for these things, then that’s just sad. These same people then question why they don’t have any money most of the time.

Another good game that has subscription service is iRacing. With the money they get from the subscription service, they can make more interesting racing series, add more interesting cars and host big community events. Even if the product may appear expensive for pro sim racers and professional teams since it is a subscription service, normal people would actually spend less money if they are just trying out how the best tire physics in the industry has to offer which I think is really nice. So I totally agree that subscription service is the future for big companies. But I am not sure how it would impact indie developers. I hope those service providers will sort that out.

Any game that's subscription only I won't be playing. Either I get to buy a game or I won't be playing it. I only play games I can own. I don't want to be unable to play the game I got massive amounts of progress in just because I haven't paid the monthly subscription fee. I'd effectively have to start paying monthly again in order to be able to continue my progress in that game. If I can't own the game, I'm not interested. Plus I have to put up with that lag and I can't play my single player games if my internet goes down? Not a chance...

Microsoft's studios, like any other big publishers studios, would all be on a 'salary' so you have a 'fixed' wage bill, fixed expenditure (rates, rent, insurance etc) from each studio every month, with 'money' to 'hire' external staff (voice/mocap actors, studio time etc) adding to any monthly expenditure. That cost can be predicted every year and 'depending' on company policy, may find their annual pay-rise above inflation if Game Pass keeps growing because its the money coming in from Subscriptions that basically need to cover the costs of keeping those studio's happy, productive and creative.
Game Pass requires big games EVERY month to make new and keep existing Subscribers. Those games have to be games that the Studio's are passionate about and that gamers want to play - because that's what 'keeps' subscribers - not mediocre games - new, interesting 'big' games, Big IP games etc. It completely removes the commercial pressure, Having to hit so many sales to be consider 'successful', having to make yet another 'sequel', maybe lose your studio identity to get pulled into the 'big' IP etc - its all about Player numbers and Player Engagement and for Microsoft It's also about Subscriber growth - hence we only hear FH5 18m players, Halo 20m players etc instead of 'sales' numbers and why its the 'biggest' launch for both yet may not sell that many comparatively, hence we hear Game Pass has 25m+ subs, not how many consoles they sold...

If the cost is good I don’t see the problem. The issue would come if one company owned pretty much it all and then they can demand Comcast prices because where else you going to go? Otherwise for the price I pay for gamepass and the amount of games I play it’s way cheaper then buying the plastic disc that still requires online to at the very least update it day one that I don’t care I can’t pretend I completely own it in that it’s physically in my hand.
It’s just the next evolution, games have been $60 and now some $70 forever so we were either going to go the route of more expensive games or something like this.
I don’t see any issues currently, just comes down to whether or not our fair practice / trade laws or whatever the correct term is keep any one entity from controlling it all and then it’s up to them to pick a price enough people can afford to enjoy and they can remain profitable.

I'm just hoping they don't make it so expensive to sub to their services like how the game pass premium is it is the most I'll spend a month for it and if it becomes more than 20 I got a problem for that as it makes it less accessible for people on a budget

Or instead of buying Game Pass, just buy the games digitally and not be at the mercy of a subscription idk.
Seriously though, if we are going to enter a fully all digital era where the only way you can play games or something is by paying some subscription, we are really screwed. I know I probably sound like a conspiracy theorist to some when I say this (which I kinda am in this case), but find it odd how Bill Gates who owns Microsoft, has also been buying up a lot of farmland recently, as suddenly certain goods like eggs are becoming expensive due to Bird Flu? There are also people considering the idea of making us eat artificial lab-grown meat instead of the real thing. (Lab grown meat doesn’t sound so bad, but that could be easily altered, controlled, or go wrong in some way, not worth it) And now they’re pushing Game Pass hard as hell with the World Economic Forum: “You will own nothing, and you will be happy”? I mean this is getting very fishy.

Honestly, I really enjoy game pass, yes I’m paying each month via the subscription but I can get whatever games many of which I would pay $60-$70 for upfront. The subscription being $15 a month is $180 a year. If I wanted to purchase 12 games (just to make the math simple) that totals to $720 in games not including Xbox live subscription to play online. Microsoft hit a home run with this model and I just hope they maintain the $15 a month subscription.
