thanks for this! it's good to know that advanced users like yourself actually have to go through this painstaking task of copyin- pasting pattern by pattern, part by part.

(EDIT. OK. You mentioned this later :) )
I use part naming for storing tempo information (for me to know what song I am dealing with and what is the right tempo for it).
You have 6 letters available and I use this convention: NAM-XX
NAM is song name shortcut (3letters) and XX is shortcut of BPM (2 digits only, but it's actually enough; for example 120 bpm = 20; 93 bpm = 93)
    Examples:
    SNG-93
    HEY-20
    OCT-07
etc. Helps me to not be lost :)

The simplest way to move banks within the same project is to connect the OT as USB disk and renaming the different banks. Definitely make a backup of the project first!

Sounds like a great solution. Is that 100% safe? I have never heard Elektron advertise this solution. More like “don’t touch the files” lol.

I've also heard this to be the solution. You copy all the bank (source) files to the bank (destination). You can make a backup and try this. Moving each pattern and park sounds TEDIOUS. ZOMG

“IDM” might be the coolest track I’ve heard from you, friend! Keep up the good work. Really love a lot of the textures you’re getting. I can really see how much you’ve grown and improved since you first popped up on UA-cam. Excited to hear more and more :)

I really love the Octa for the possibility to make transitions between tracks like djs do cause im also djing and like long transitions in some cases recombining two tracks generating a new one on the fly. Thats a cool way to play for dancefloors, not just one track after another and i do not know any other sequencer machine which is able to do that exept daws but i dont wanna use a laptop setup.
So when i started using the octa like this i resampled the master onto one specific track (always the same in all patterns) and created a scene which mutes all other tracks only playing this on the fly sample. Sample the master then go to that scene. Sounds like nothing happened but then youre able to move to the next pattern/part which has the same scene setting and you will still hear the instantly recorded sample from the pattern before while already in the new one. Then you can crossfade back to one of the other scenes which should all mute the instant sample track and unmute all other tracks. Smooth transition done.. sure you can use all filters, fx, reverse and so on manually on top while doing so. This was my transition trick number one i found somewhere on youtube.
However i changed that now and use a different method. The reason is that i dont want to always have a transition like from one vinyl record or sum to another. I thought it would be nicer to be able to recombine the single tracks of both pattern/parts how i want to in the life situation. E.g. bring in the new kick or hats while the rest is still playing the pattern before and things like that. Also i didnt wanna spend one of the 8tracks only for the transitions. so i created a live workaround like this: just record the single tracks with their trigs and fx into the track buffer as a loop while playing at the moment you like how they sound. Switch to another pattern that is playing back all those buffers (always the same pattern only designed for the transition). Again it sound like nothing happened but u now play back the loops which have to be set to infinite looping. If u then go to the next pattern/part you wanna bring in slowly track by track still the loop buffers are looping when the tracks of the new pattern are always disconnected from the clock or ‚play automatically‘ status. If you set up the machine like this you can now start one track after the other by just start them one after the other like you wanna bring them in. the other buffers still play the samples from the pattern before. As soon as you start one of the tracks the samplebuffer on that track will stop and the new sounds/trigs on that track will play. Makes sense?

All of the songs (except the last one) are based on Octatrack performances. But I’ve edited them in the computer after they’ve been recorded to make the arrangements tighter. And often added a few tracks, like piano and flute, for example. But it truly is recorded Octatrack performances.

Hi i have a question for anybody who wants to help: i already have an op1 and i am thinking to get another synth but my budget is 200€ max so i thought about volca fm, td3 and the crave. I like the three of them. Maybe the td3 is the more different sound to what i can get with the op1 but i doubt cause its maybe the least deep one. Any help will be great ! Thanks

Seems to me Cuckoo could have just used the arranger mode to organize the set. I recently made a spreadsheet of my octatrack banks and patterns and that has helped me see quickly what how everything is organized.

I tried the arranger to organize my set, but I always keep forgetting to go out of the arranger after switching a song... and then it switches to the next track after 4 bars and my set is messed up...

    • @adamwiesner
      @adamwiesner 4 роки тому

dorn haha that can happen. I suggest telling the arranger to loop the pattern where you want to get out of the mode. Practicing and putting in Rem: lines could help too.
