    My best advice. First realize they are cute but they are a rugged working dog. They are cattle herding and sheep herders. Ratters. They are fearless and very very brave Don't let their size fool you. They will protect the herd. Against predators. They have no fear and will go for an opponent by sliding under and going for its throat as mine did to a Doberman who got so freaked I watched my corgi chasing him as the Doberman pooped it's pants in retreat. The corgi needs purpose. If you don't have a herd make sure your corgi gets exercise walks. Or they will be unhappy and start to misbehave. They are kind loyal cute and affectionate. Mine was not a lapdog. He liked to stay a distance away to observe like we were his herd. He waited all day for me to come home he was very kind and affectionate They nip at cows heels when the cow kicks at them they pancake so the cow misses. A wonderful friend when I was sick for six months he stayed by me never leaving my side I carried him to his grave at the hinsdale pet cemetery. He is after many years still in my heart

    When I adopted my Pembroke corgi last year, Moshi, he was 10, he had a birthday this September. I adopted him from the Mayflower Pembroke Corgi Association and rescue. I fell in love the first time I saw him. He is a joy and so funny, makes me laugh quite a bit.

      My little girl was also adopted out of Mayflower, what a wonderful group of people they are!...Although my daughters asked for a dog all their childhood, it wasn't until they were grown and out of the house when my wife and I adopted our six-year-old little girl. She and I are inseparable.,

    We loved our Corgi and he loved everyone back. He even loved the mailman! Sitting on our front step and waiting for "Mike The Mailman" was the highlight of his day. He loved cats, too and my parrot, who used to ride around on his back! I think they're wonderful dogs. Can't say enough great things about them if you train and socialize them correctly and early when they're a pup. I miss mine everyday. Wonderful dog.

    Corgis should weigh between 22-26 lbs for females and 24-28 lbs for males. Letting them become overweight causes joint and back problems that can be very serious in later life.

      Our Corgi companion used to literally rattle the rafters when thunderstorms were near -- and living on the Texas Gulf Coast, that was pretty often! We think it was her way of telling the thunder gods (Welsh or otherwise) that she wasn't afraid of a little thunder -- and that if they insisted on interrupting her naps, she'd show 'em how it's REALLY supposed to be done.
      It never seemed to get the thunder to stop, but it seemed to make her feel better.

      Our vet said to make sure to clip nails with Corgi on a smooth surface. That way, stubborn lil' Corgi feet can't get a toe hold for attempted get aways... He said this while clipping all Corgi nails in under 2 minutes (with assist. help.) A feat never matched at home, where it still took 2 adults, one snooter muzzle, many treats and cuddles, and ear plugs due to the screaming, indignant Corgi. Also, about 20 minutes of total anguished guilt by said adults who loved that Corgi to no end.

    I think your "Results may vary" comment probably applies to *all* commands given to a corgi. Our corgi (Candy {1971 ~1984}) could be loving, biddable and obedient... *however* ...she could also be wilful and selectively deaf- it just depended what was on offer and whether she was minded to "hear" you! Oh, and if she saw something that she didn't understand her reaction was to bark at it and loved to have the last word with you (US: "Candy- *quiet!"* CANDY: " *WOOF")* Have you ever heard a dog try to have the last word with her own echo across a small ravine? YUP, that was our dog! We loved her to bits and she's still sorely missed after all these years.

      Aaron Blade dont. The corgi in this video was clearly a bit chubby so if you dont want a chubby corgi dont feed them alot of treats. Corgis gain weight really fast. Just look at 2:34. This corgi is too big :/

    • @diannew6066
      @diannew6066 5 років тому +1

      Aaron Blade don't listen to AZR. We don't know the age of this 'chubby' corgi as he has dubbed him/her. They naturally bulk out as they get older. While they should never be allowed to get heavy because it's so bad for their backs, AZR seems to find fat where many of us see a loved dog who is most definitly not fat. Corgis love to eat so you do have to be firm with them from the get-go or they will get too heavy, but I've had corgis since the mid-80s and I can tell you neither of these corgis is fat and are obviously the products of the old-fashioned hardy breeder which I happen to think looks much better than the over-long really skinny dogs some people think all corgis should resemble.

    • @user-sicparvis
      @user-sicparvis 5 років тому +1

      @@diannew6066 I never said that i do not love the corgi, me replying to this comment is only in an attempt to spread awareness of the corgis tendency to be overfed. In fact, me making that reply is only a product of my love for the breed but i do not believe that you should go around telling people not to listen to someone spreading awareness about this. Having a dog is a serious commitment and you, having seemingly a lot of experience with this breed, should be extra aware about the fact that a healthy weight for corgis is around 27/25 pounds (depending on gender). That dog is not a healthy weight and stating that is just spreading false awareness.

      Disagree. They are a hefty large boned dog built for herding sheep and cattle. It's the fault of the AKC and some breeders that are messing up the breed and trying to make a little poofy dog, which they are not. Just my opinion but look at the Cardigans in England and you'll see they are big robust dogs on short legs. The Pembrokes are a separate breed and a little smaller in their feet but my two were 40lbs and in great shape. I'll never accept any criticism of them. I'm a real Corgi bitch 😉

      corgisbutt...the best thing is to get them used to nail trimming when they are puppies, 8 to 12 weeks, when they are more agreeable to having their paws handled. Otherwise just let your groomer do it. That's what they're trained for. I used to put a soft muzzle on one of mine even for the groomer. She was a rescued dog who would bite if I tried to do her nails.

      Pembroke Welsh corgis (smaller, more common breed of corgis) weigh up to 29 pounds. As you don't know the weight of these corgis, you cannot say they are fat. Also, Cardigan Welsh corgis weigh up to 37 pounds. Please be more informed about corgis before being judgmental. Even if they were overweight, that doesn't always mean they are unhealthy. These corgis played hard, so they obviously aren't super unhealthy. Putting corgis on a strict diet is a good idea, but certain corgis won't strive on that diet. I do not support over feeding, but they aren't my fur-babys. It does no good to insult.

They are super smart and love to be with their people but if left alone too much they will get into trouble. Research a breed before buying or adopting, is the best advice. They are my favorite breed. They can be a challenge but are well worth the love and devotion they give.
