"How could we have known we'd lose control of the face-eating leopard? We just want him to eat the faces of poor and brown people." -- A senior official of the Leopard Eating People's Faces Party
Lol trump is losing what's little left of his mind over this I love it. He totally brought it on himself though because he appointed everyone around him. Remember: he "picks the best people"
Trump is the most fascinating 'psycho analysis of humanity', of all time. it's truly a battle of 'the logical vs the emotional'. Fear vs reason. And, horrifically, fear has such an excellent knack of weakening reason. Our only hope is humanity's natural instinct to live and work as a team.
Jesus, why don’t they just all save themselves and put out the trash on trump. Get this GAMESHOW host on his way to being the past national embarrassment
Johnny Paycheck, the analysis was done by a journalist. Apparently the NYT article used the word "lodestar", a rather uncommon word; personally, I don't think I've ever used it. A Google of Pence speeches over the last number of years has him using it 9 times.
Kellyanne Conway, her husband, Stephen Miller, Mike Pompeo, and Dan Coates could all fit into some category of having reason to oust him as well. Kellyanne Conway worked on Ted Cruz's campaign before he lost and then she moved over to Trumps. After all of the media attention due to her lying, she sunk into the background and doesn't pop up very often. Stephen Miller may have entirely different, more nefarious reasons. Trump may not be far right enough or may do establishment republicans bidding more often than he wants. He may wan't to get Trump out and work on Mike Pence. Mike Pompeo and Dan Coates may have similar reasons to Mattis and Kelly when they said what they said about Trump. They all think he's an idiot and have to keep a close eye on every detail while he's awake. The implosion Trump could cause to the republican party could last generations and this would become a truly liberal country. They love war so they don't want to let democrats get elected who will shrink the size of the military. There are many possibilities here but the person who would gain most from it would be Mike Pence.
Deb Long thanks for the reply Deb! Also pretty shocking if it was pence And i looked it up as well and you’re right he has used it many times in many speeches. One comment I read was that people who do anonymous pieces like that traditionally use other officials vocabulary to throw people off however... who has the most to gain if Trump were to be removed? Pence! What are your thoughts, do you think it probably is pence? I’m on the fence but I’m leaning more towards the yes crowd
because then they would lose their power. As long as they keep Trump happy and distracted, they can run the country. I am deeply concerned that liberals are making a mistake supporting this. These guys are even less legitimate than Trump is.
Sure you can. Or, at the very least, there is a long history of people who thought they could. Admittedly most of them failed and ended up getting their heads cut off, but, there is enough of a history of this that there is even a term for it, a palace coup.
The appearance of the word "loadstar" in the oped is a favoured word of Mike Pence's. Either it is Pence, himself, or someone clever enough to deliberately use the word to throw off their identity and implicate Pence.
They have probably had many drafts of this letter over many many months. I think every word was chosen very carefully. It may also have been written by more than one person.
I don't feel bad for the people who feel stuck in this place of chaos. They helped it to happen. This is what they chose for themselves, because they did not think through the strategy they were employing. I think they were hoping for a puppet and what they got was a loose cannon.
14:39 The writer either doesn't understand this or he/she didn't elaborate properly, but as Stephen Colbert pointed out, the 25th Amendment is not a constitutional crisis, but a constitutional remedy. Section 4 of that amendment applies with Trump because of his behavior and mindset. This is also why the scant qualifications to be President don't cut it: the only qualifications are that you have to be a U.S.-born citizen and at least 35 years old. The Presidency needs to be treated in the vein of a job interview, where the qualifications narrow potential candidates to those with some degree of experience in government or politics (at least two to four years at the local, state and/or federal level), must be subject to mental and physical health exams (disqualifying them both if they're deemed not of adequate health or not mentally fit for office, or if they refuse to comply with having the exam conducted upon three requests) and must not exhibit anti-democratic behaviors/beliefs (such as being against aspects of the Bill of Rights Amendments) or admiration of autocrats.
Hello, If I'm in the car and my friend robs a bank and the police stop the car I WILL GO TO JAIL ALSO. So when the people on capital hill allow TRUMP to commit crimes without stopping him, People like the speaker of the house Paul Ryan and Others Nancy pelousy etc. aren't they also Guilty ? Trump could not Do what he does without help.
Richard Peck Exactly. The whole thing is advertising for Republican Party, getting far from the crazy guy is gonna be obvious he is. After they were backing him up.
What makes me sad, is that, knowing what we know, there are still Trump supporters. It makes me sad for this country. Trump has set this country back so far, and it will take time to get back to where we were. We might not be able to earn back the respect/trust of some of our closest partners ever.
I think Jeff Sessions wrote the op-ed piece. I think the reason he has not resigned from Trump's cabinet is to try to thwart his actions. He said he was a senior official; he did not say a member of the cabinet, on purpose. Just conjecture, of course, for what it is worth.
The quotes make it sound specifically like it is someone who actually is in the cabinet though. They talk about meetings, and the processing of policies.
I will worry... Because when a child repeatedly disobeys and is unruly you eventually have to question the parenting skills of those adults in the room.
It's Mattis or Pence. But the thing is, exercising the 25th Amendment is not as cut and dried as some believe. Trump can fight it, and I'm sure he would, and both the House and Senate would have to vote to permanently remove him by a 2/3 vote. It would be messy, to say the least, and make Watergate look insignificant by comparison.
But the fact that the issue is even raised seriously . . . this is great progress. The trouble is, this incumbency will wage war to deflect public attention from this imploding tension, which is what we always do as a country since we can't come to terms with our own inadequacies to fulfill the freedoms and responsibilities our citizenship and economic global privilege provides us. If you don't use it guys, you lose it.
The idea that the GOP cares about the Republic is laughable. Look at their behaviour regarding SCOTUS, gerrymandering, voter suppression, stacking of courts with partisan players, etc. The GOP leadership is fully aware of Trump's unsuitability but, while our attention is on him, they are doing their dirty little deeds.
You guys (Americans) have 1 month to go (Nov elections) to make a fundamental change. Left winger's in general have to modify their culture and vote out of 'Duty' in all future elections. Over 10 million left wing voters never arrived at the polls in 2016 and that is why we are here. This has to change.... for ever...
Jennifer Ierace I believe that this letter was written by a group of highly placed personnel and this allows them to say that each one didn’t do it! Note that he didn’t ask if there’s more than one person!
Tamala Rovaris you mean like Pence’s staff. Lol. Doing his bidding to get Pence into power quicker so they can deny individual responsibility and protect Pence. You need tp watch GOT.
The most likely senior Trump official is Pence. It’s obvious with the language he decided to use: “We may no longer have Senator McCain. But we will always have his example - a lodestar for restoring honor to public life and our national dialogue. Mr. Trump may fear such honorable men, but we should revere them.” “Lodestar” is a common word used by Pence. I personally feel it was cowardly that he came out anonymously with that message. A strong leader would stand confident and strong.
Imagine the Trump Presidency as a game of Clue. Who will end it. General Kelly in the Situation Room with an Omarosa? Don Jr. In Trump Tower with a Veselnitskaya? Or Putin in Helsinki with another copy of Pee Pee Tape. The game continues.

One thing that I think Cenk is totally wrong about is the analogy to Nixon and his base. Back in the 1970s there was no internet that had recorded everyone's views for the duration of Nixon's presidency like we have now with Trump. Of course people knew back then if someone was a Nixon voter but it wasn't in a public record like Facebook. I think his base will continue to support him regardless of what happens. I knew the guy was crazy and had lost his mind and his only sane thoughts were about himself years ago, but I don't think that his base will ever come to that realization. This is just a completely different situation with a completely different context. It wasn't found that Nixon was crazy, he was found to be a crook; everyone already knows Trump is a crook. His base will not be swayed.
And his opinion polls are dropping but I hesitate to say that because opinion polls can be fickle. Still 40's even from fox is pretty low praise. If he's really slipped below 40 to 38, which I honestly doubt as an average across all of them, then yeah the support for him, not his policies as that might well be stronger, is slipping away. Just how he conducts himself in the role is constantly a farce, never knowing when to shut up or focus on something other than himself. He'll be a political punching bag forever, and so easily manipulated into the soap opera politics that he loves to engage in.
They will decline to reveal their source and a few days from now Trump will forget while he is embroiled in his next scandal. We won't know who it is till he is gone.
watch and see. if the administration pushes it, it will go to court and by than they will have forgotten and it won't matter to them any more. either way it'll be after Trump is out that it gets revealed.
there's the measure of the man speaking, Adam. That's as far as your vision takes you, eh? Sorry mate, you done missed the boat. Sure, we are all looking forward to the Oliver Stone blockbuster but right now that is the last of our concerns - don't know about yours.
Come on America, with the coming midterms do the right thing and send the clown in the White House (and his die hard supporters) a message that even he can understand. A message that says you have had enough of his lies, his racism, his misogyny, his chaos, his abuse of your laws and his denigration of your country in the eyes of the world. We are counting on you.
It wouldn't surprise me if Mike Pence is the senior Trump official. He could be trying to get Trump out as soon as possible so he can have all the power.
It's more than likely Dan Coats who wrote it. McCain was a dear friend and Coats knows National security inside and out. Here's 75 years old and has no other political aspirations so he has nothing much to loose (except his job) if his name is leaked.
Because if this is a coup and he wants it to succeed, he cannot seem overeager to get Trump out. Pence would have to control the optics of this in such a way that he will be hailed as the reluctant, upright citizen and had to step up to the plate, even though it pained him, because President Trump was unfortunately afflicted with the devil- I mean, afflicted with a mental condition that renders him unable to perform his duties, yadda, yadda, yadda. Pence has appear he gave Trump all the chances in the world, that he deeply regrets things came to this stage and that as President he will carry out Trump's legacy and give continuity to the GOP. If he comes out publicly and expresses his wishes to have the 25th activated he'd be losing political capital, even if it actually works (and it might not, at which point he is royally screwed) Trump's base will deem him 'deep state' and whatnot. Pence's best shot is to wait for talk of the 25th reaches such momentum that he is approached by several people in the know. Once that happens he can then play the card of the man who simply had to do the right thing in the face of an emergency.
And yet again, I get to say, America!! I told you so!! I told you so 15 years ago! This was the direction our country was headed and I tried warning folks.
Nothing like having the best of the best. He may have finally found one. Vote for real change in 2018 and 2020. This WH Administration, Senate, and Congress has to go. Legislation for stable leaders needs to be initiated. No self interest, no 1 party, and open tax records. Complete disclosure for our leaders.
Cenk and Ana are smart, and their arguments are compelling and entertaining. Continued success to The YoungTurks.
What I am most surprised at is that there are people who didn't see this coming. It was plain as day that he was like this during the campaign.....

Yikes this very public meltdown, confirms the fears that all have had about Trump. Bottom line is he is not fit to be POTUS.

All that is known about the anonymous White House source that wrote the NY Times op-ed is that it was a woman with a thick Slovenian accent.
My guess, this is Mike Pence, just a slight push off the cliff is all we need to finish Trump. Just sayin.
This is my guess as well.
Nope - Don't make him a martyr...
Lol that would be hilarious
I'm going with Pence too
It's DEFINITELY NOT Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, lol.

Agreed. He has the most to gain.
Look up lodestar
So Pence is essentially Starscream?
Aint betting against that lol. He's been awfully silent.
Someone analyzed the language in the Op-Ed and concluded that it must be Mike Pence who wrote it.
BTG+ I agree, what he's saying is don't worry, I'll take over when he's impeached. Everything will be ok.
BTG are you sure? Who analyzed it? It would be funny if it’s true
Johnny Paycheck, the analysis was done by a journalist. Apparently the NYT article used the word "lodestar", a rather uncommon word; personally, I don't think I've ever used it. A Google of Pence speeches over the last number of years has him using it 9 times.

The flames are getting hotter. Sounds like someone is searching for away out of hell 😂👍✌️
Why don't they just do section 4 of 25th amendment?
because then they would lose their power. As long as they keep Trump happy and distracted, they can run the country.
I am deeply concerned that liberals are making a mistake supporting this. These guys are even less legitimate than Trump is.
You should've watched the whole video before commenting. They discuss that possibility at about 14:40.
Michael Williams
Nobody supports this puppet show. You can't have people taking advantage behind the scenes. Especially if the president is insane.
Martin M the thing is, Pence can’t be fired. And this guy said he’s afraid of being fired.
I think "lodestar" is a red herring. My money's on Kelly.
They have probably had many drafts of this letter over many many months. I think every word was chosen very carefully. It may also have been written by more than one person.
UTU49 That sounds plausible.
I don't feel bad for the people who feel stuck in this place of chaos. They helped it to happen. This is what they chose for themselves, because they did not think through the strategy they were employing. I think they were hoping for a puppet and what they got was a loose cannon.
The "Senior Official" is brave, candid and eloquent. When this is all over, this person deserves a Congressional Medal.

Right
I bet it's Kelly_Ann who sent this , in retaliation of Trump throwing her under the bus when talking to Woodward 😂
Imagine a person with 20 multiple personalities & all these voices are talking at once - Now you are living inside Donald Trump's head.
I don't think this was written by one person working alone. This was written by more than one person identifying themselves as "anonymous."
Its PENCE
Wait...what we are seeing is Trump on a leash? He's THAT crazy and STILL ON A LEASH?!
I think Jeff Sessions wrote the op-ed piece. I think the reason he has not resigned from Trump's cabinet is to try to thwart his actions. He said he was a senior official; he did not say a member of the cabinet, on purpose. Just conjecture, of course, for what it is worth.

Reminds me of Julius Caesar. Who is brutus?
Trump's going to be end up found sitting on a DC park bench with his head down, dejected, muttering to himself looking sadder than Keanu ever did.
When will they finally sedate him and just bring him out to read off a script? Or just lock him up.
he'll just start saying ''the lying New York Times'' and enough will still believe him
Yep.
Mike "lodestar" Pence
Yep. The key word.

"We're not opposed to the president's agenda." They SHOULD be. Trump's foreign policy/war agenda in particular.
What I don't understand is why Mike Pence, having borne witness to Trump's instability, hasn't invoked the 25th?
This season of Apprentice: White House Edition is amazing why bother with other shows on TV.
Our foreign policy is unstable. Lethal.
I hope it's Mattis. Members of the military love that guy.
Mattis would have simply resigned. Nah, the author of this op-ed is bitchmade like lemonade. It's either Kelly or Pence.
I bet Putin is laughing in his volcano lair.
I PRAY it's Sarah! 😍
Maybe it's Pence himself?
Maybe it is Trump himself. I doubt he would even remember if it was him.
Wow!!! Ana looks great. 😍
