    Honestly will never consider Cursed Child as canon, which is definitely a popular opinion lol, because it wasn’t written by JK Rowling herself so to me it’s not a part of the actual series. It’s more like a companion book based on a play by a different author. Does anyone like that book btw? I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say they legitimately like it 😄

    For me, the best thing about The Cursed Child was accidentally ending up at a late release party for the book at Barnes and Noble. I never would have been able to do that when the books of the real series came out because we lived too far away to have that late of a night as a kid. They had a lot of cool activities like Hogwarts classes and finding hidden snitches. It was fun seeing younger parents bringing their children to experience Harry Potter magic.

    To each one's own. Me, I love SJM, knowing and acknowledging the problematic things that do come with her books. Especially ACOTAR since I know lots of not great things happened with the third book.
    Beautiful Creatures. I'm with you there. I loved the first book back when I first read it but after the second book, I just couldn't do it.
    Divergent....once the hype left so did my love for it. The third book didn't help things.
    Cursed Child. Pretty sure it's an anonymous decision in the fandom to pretend that play didn't happen.
    For Carry On, though, that's where you really shook me. That's one of my favs and I'm so excited for the sequel. For me, I can definitely say as a massive drarry shipper, I love snowbaz since they were canon drarry. I love how lighthearted it was. I think the best thing for Carry On is going into it, with the mindset that's it an ode and spoof of HP, making sure not to take things too seriously. I think readers who went in with that mindset ended up enjoying that book a lot more.
    The one thing I would change about the book, and hope so badly for the sequel, is I would stick to three POVS. Simon, Baz, and Penelope. Those were only POVS I cared about. Everyone else didn't do much, especially Agatha and the Mage who can CHOOOOKE.
    I would say try reading it again, this time with the physical book. Sometimes second time's the charm with this book

    I'm in an odd position right now.
    Context: I like (not love) ACOTAR but cannot stand ACOMAF at all, and mildly tolerate ACOWAR for the secondary characters. Despite my unfavorable history with ACOMAF and ACOWAR, I went on with the series and I read ACOFAS because I am a completionist. It came back and bit me in the ass however, because the way Tamlin is treated in ACOFAS personally hurt me. I had just gotten out of a grueling period of depression and seeing Tamlin treated that way by Rhys was the last straw.
    Now I have just recently finished my reread analysis of ACOMAF and I have to give credit. Taken as an entity in and of itself the recovery arc Feyra undergoes is very well done, but I cannot stand Feyra and so I see past the author's attempts to make me sympathetic towards her situation. And what I discovered is earth-shatteringly controversial but Feyra is a fucking sociopath.
    And I mean this because all she ever does in ACOMAF and onward is find people to validate HER wants, HER needs, HER behavior and she is two faced most of the time (Tarquin in ACOMAF and the Spring Court in ACOWAR). I was never cheering for her at the beginning of ACOWAR because she is so narrowminded in her revenge plan against Tamlin that she NEVER considers the consequences of collapsing the Spring Court. She is never held accountable for facilitating Hybern's advance on the wall and hindering Tamlin's spying of Hybern's court, because that was his job!

    the ToG series is my favorite book series because of how much it has impacted my life and how i motivated myself to be happier after reading it. that being said, i totally respect your opinion and i actually somewhat agree with you. representation is almost nonexistent in these books. both with skin color AND sexual orientation. for one, the nehemiah crap (i cried for days lmao) and two, maybe in one sentence she brushed on aedion possibly being bisexual. but that was it. and i also honestly feel like nobody can be single. it’s like every person absolutely needs a s/o to function properly. like, come on. i just want ONE strong, independent female. is that too much to ask for? either way, i still do love the series for my own reasons, but i do also acknowledge the good and bad in everything.

I know people hate the Novella but personally I think I needed a chill book. I felt the other books were a lot and it was nice to just have something where they were rebuilding. It showed the aftermath of the war and the deep depression that some of the characters fell into. I know some people hated but I felt it was needed to end the series.

    I struggled with Acomaf because she went from one abusive relationship to another. A man who loves you doesn’t...break your arm, put you on “display” in a court where his cousin was assaulted (clearly the men in that court have issues) and then he “allows” her to go off on her own and nearly get killed a few times to show her growth/independence or maybe that he “trusts” her....who knows lol but it’s written as if he is an advocate for women but his actions just don’t coincide with it. With that being said....I still read because I wanted to know what happened with her sister 😂

When I don’t know what to listen to when I’m driving I just put on the audiobooks and get all up in my feels haha.
    I don’t want to be like OMG GIVE THEM ANOTHER TRY because I know taste is subjective and sometimes it’s difficult to change a first impression, but I do think there’s so much to gain from this series. For me in particular the characters are such a source of joy and comfort, and I know a lot of others feel the same, so I will always recommend this series if there’s even a small chance that someone else will feel even a fraction of the happiness this series gives to me.

    Here's my Carry On feedback on why it's not for everyone. I personally liked Carry On' for a few reasons 1. Its post series vibe in that it's like someone is telling a story about characters after the previous series ended. That makes it actually feel like someone writing fan fiction about the characters. 2. It's cheesy and somewhat predictable and sometimes I need that when reading. A lot of books about LGBTQ+ themes are emotional rollercoasters. Those books are fantastic but kind of emotionally exhausting. As a gay man, sometimes I just want a cheesy calming read with gay characters; not every story needs groundbreaking drama and action. 3. Because of points 1 and 2, I could care less about the plot as long as the relationship progressed. Again, that is very fanfiction-like. The center of the story is the relationship and plot is secondary. It really feels like someone took a story from archiveoforown and published it. I could totally believe this was written by Cath from Fangirl. Do I think it's a literary masterpiece? No, I don't. Will I treasure it forever and likely reread it more than once? Absolutely.

    Thank you, so much, for including the Raven Cycle. I LOVED those books, until the last one. I had such high expectations for the final book but Raven King was just so...underwhelming. It ruined the entier series for me. I felt like one of my oldest friends had just stabbed me 37 times in the chest, buried me alive, and danced on my grave. Maggie Stiefvater is STILL my favorite author--I love her writing, and I love her characters. But Raven King...man was that a disappointment.

    The biggest, BIGGEST book disappointment I've ever felt was War Storm in the Red Queen series. SPOILERS AHEAD.
    Like it had beautiful, well rounded characters, a bad ass storyline, a villain who I related to deeply. Yet as all YAs, the villain dies in the end. MY BOY WAS DONE DIRTY. WE DIDN'T GET A DEATH SCENE, WE DIDN'T EVEN GET A BODY. Like NANI, THE FUCK? 1ST HE'S KILLED WITH A LETTER OPENER AND 2ND SHE DIDN'T EVEN WRITE HIS DEATH SCENE?
    I'M STILL PISSED AND IT'S BEEN NEARLY A FULL YEAR SINCE THE BOOK'S RELEASE.

    I read Carry On because the fanfiction parts were actually my favorite in Fangirl (I didn't like that book too much though) but what I got was so... simply weak. Nothing in it was really developed, the plot, worldbuilding nor the characters. First half of it was boring and it only got interesting when Baz came in. Overall, I never understood the craze about it and I'm completely on your side with this

    • @kb-ih7ni
      @kb-ih7ni 5 років тому +3

      Please elaborate. Personally I'm with the popular opinion that HG series > Divergent series. The writing is better, the world is bigger, the characters are more interesting, and the plot is more dynamic and grounded. It's not perfect by any means, but it's my preference. But I'd love to know your reasons for the preference.

    • @billuraral1870
      @billuraral1870 5 років тому +2

      @@kb-ih7ni I guess I couldn't connect to Katniss like I did with Tris. The narrative made Katniss up as the underdog while always giving her the best of the best(the best designer, the best dress, the best weapons,etc.) and the upper hand(she knows archery better than the career kids and snuffed half of them). Tris, who was tiny and had to trust her wits in a fight and had ptsd from holding a gun after shooting her friend came off more natural to me. Also, while I'm not the biggest Four fan, I always hated Peeta(another unpopular opinion, I know. Not like I'm team Gale, but Peeta's fixation on Katniss came off creepy to me. He forced her into stiations she didn't had the power to say "no"-him being in love with her doesn't makes it okay, it makes him a bigger creep- and had the gall to be offended when she didn't fell for him. Peeta wasn't a good person, he was a textbook example of The Nice Guy.

    • @joshuaadi2754
      @joshuaadi2754 5 років тому

      Billur Aral the writer didn’t giver her the weapons to an under dog, she gave food to an animal that was about to get slaughtered all for the entertainment of the capital. Peeta wasn’t necessarily a “good guy” he was put in a situation where he had to survive and he used his previous relationship with her to do it. They got close yeah but it wasn’t cause he was a good guy. The only thing I like about divergent was that whole faction thing, like their own sorting hat. Otherwise take that away and it’s just another post apocalyptic based book.

    • @billuraral1870
      @billuraral1870 5 років тому

      @@joshuaadi2754 I wouldn't mind Peeta's sleazy ideas that much if both every character and the narrative itself didn't paint him as a paragorn of virtue (almost every character who talks about him mentions what a pure and swell guy he is), insisted him forcing Katniss into the starcrossed lovers act without her consent (and I don't buy the "but she's a terrible liar" crap. She gives out Oscar-worthy performences in front of the cameras and makes up lies on a whim, unless the plot needs her to be a bad liar) and calls Katniss cruel for leading him on and not falling for him, even thought she risked life and limb just to keep him alive. If the book acknowled this instead of calling Peeta the best guy ever, it would be fine. I'd buy he was only trying to survive in his own way, but as the reader, we know he's in love with Katniss and his method of survival is basically have her kiss him on camera if she wants to get sponsors. That's Christian Grey levels of creeply controlling. He was fully expecting her to love him back when they returned and actually had the atrocity to be offended when no, she was just rolling with his dumpass plan because why and how the hell she'd love him, they were on a murder tournement. He had no right to be upset eith her, when he should have been apolozing for everything and thanking her for saving him even thought leaving him would be easier for her. Katniss had nothing to apolizige or feel guilty for, yet he made her feel like shit for months. If Peeta's guile hero tendercies were more explored rather than his "camuflage" (painting cakes, right) and he actually felt guilty for what he had put Katniss throught, I think his character would have more potential. Their romance would feel more natural, with two of them getting to know each other without being forced by the cameras. Instead, his entire character is his obsession over his childhood crush he never got over. He has no goals or ambitions other than keeping Katniss alive. No friends he wants to protect from Capitol, no word about how he copes about his abusive mother, even his ptsd incuded nightmares are about losing Katniss and not how he almost died in seven different ways.

    Here's my confession. I don't like the Harry Potter series. Never have. I was a kid in elementary school when they first came out and I was/is an avid reader. Never liked the books. Didn't like how you had to wait years for the next book and the books were just "monster of the week" books with barely any movement on the main plot (Harry saving the world). The worst part was I couldn't join any book clubs or anything because all the readers talked about in Highschool was Harry Potter this and Harry Potter that and they were soooo insufferable! They converted to Wicca because they wanted to be witches like the book (some still are following some sort of witchcraft) these were the people who got the *VERY* common "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" tattoo the second they turned 18 and thought they were sooooo unique. Insufferable. All of them. So glad that dumb series is over and I don't have to hear about it anymore!!!!!!!!!

  • @HieiIsMINE

    I respect you opinions!
    I haven't read some of them but I've heard similar reviews (throne of Glass) and haven't been able to try it. HP, I finished the 6th book and have been living vicariously through fan fics.
    ACoTR I read the first 2 and then couldn't....I noticed most of the issues in the first one, but I like retellings and thought this was a set up for something else...I didn't realize it was fanfic. That's how the second book came off to me, and the power imbalance for humans and fae I couldn't see actually working.
    The Divergent series I liked for the emotional growth for Tris. That's what made the series for me, but yeah plot wise I feel the author didn't want to redo the destroy the government and create a new one, and didn't quite have a world outside really thought out to be believable.
    For Beautiful Creatures I couldn't get into the world.
    Raven Boys, didn't care for the story, but I REALLY liked the author's writing style. I felt like the character's were like stereotypes of what they should be....doses that make sense? And all the parts that should have been exciting came off as a bit bland. I say this because I usually try to turn it into a movie in my head and I realized that none of the stuff I liked would actually be there, and it would be really boring. I will say I would love if the author would invest in having the 'murder squash' song made XD
    Carry On felt like fanfic. I felt like she knew what specific things she did and did not want and wrote it even if it didn't mesh. Like the divide between magic and non magic people felt forgotten in some parts. Didn't hate it, but didn't love it. Kinda curious how the sequel is even supposed to work...
    So there's my rant. Hope it gave you some amusement :)

    Divergent was such a bust. I loved the first book but the other two make me wanna rip my hair off. (Especially Allegiant, I hated that it was told in Tris and Four’s perspective but they sounded the same the whole time, there was no distinction in their voices)

    I really want to know what you mean by the "series became fanfiction". I've read some pretty amazingly well written fanfiction, and i genuinely don't know what that criticism means when used in this context... Different direction of the story than you expected? Unlikely pairings? Mad plot twists? Characters acting out of character? Because honestly most fanfic I read has none of that xD

      hey! great question lol and I feel like I could've been more clear since I LOVE fanfiction, read a lot myself and I used to write some as well. When I said that I meant it in the sense that in book 6 the series seemed to think it was suddenly an AU Max and Fang fic focused solely on the relationship. And even tho I love that ship, it felt like they were both acting way out of character. hope that clears it up for you!

I don’t think I would have like carry on if it was a straight romance, but I also really think that it would change the story a lot. I loved the magic system and how it was all about feelings and the whole thing about magic being able to run out.
