Thank You! Moved to the US from northern Ireland a few years ago, and fully took wheaten bread for granted while i was living at home. No more poppin to the shop for a wheaten! Looked everywhere for an actual recipe from home but everything was either from americans or english that have had this maybe once in their lives. So thank you, I can now make the wheaten that I grew up on for my husband and daughter!
Girl Gone American. Thank you very much for such a lovely comment. I hope you enjoy many home made wheaten’s and share this recipe with you American friends.
Alan, I made this earlier this morning, left it to cool while we took our dog for his walk. We ate this with a cup of tea and Irish butter. Instantly transported back to my family’s kitchen in Belfast. Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll be making more this week 😂🤘
IRISH WHEATEN BREAD RECIPE Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) Add the dry ingredients to a mixing bowl: 165g Plain Flour 165g Wholemeal Flour 1 tsp Salt 1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda And mix thoroughly. Now add 300ml Buttermilk slowly whilst mixing with a fork to form a loose dough ball. Use your hands to knead the dough into a ball (only for about 90 seconds to 2 minutes). Place the dough onto a floured baking sheet/tray. With a knife cut a deep cross into the top - almost completely through the dough - bisecting at the centre (this helps the cob cook evenly). Place in your preheated oven for 30 minutes. Enjoy!
This is a really easy to follow guide and makes GREAT bread. Tesco sell a polish buttermilk by the litre for £1 and it gives great results! Thanks Alan! Off to make my second loaf.
Thank you! That looks beautiful and a lovely colour. I shall try your recipe. At the moment I am using my mother in law's recipe which is similar, but actually you do more kneading then she does - so I shall try it your way. Your presentation is very re3laxed and we almost feel as if we are in the kitchen with you!
Great. I’ve only ever made this using Neills flour the course and medium wholemeal one and I just can’t find it in England so will definitely try this. Thanks
Brilliant mate. I have just started baking and found this last night so into the kitchen in a few to try it. My oven incinerates stuff so i will have to be careful lol Haven't had wheaten in I don't know how many years. I live in the states now.
Hi there Alan.. I live in England but i'm from Belfast..What about Yee!!!!...This recipe is so easy no more going without home made wheaten. I pass your recipe to family and friends..Thanks :)
Made this twice in the last 4 days. The second is just out of the oven. It is perfect every time. Thank you for simple clear instructions. All the other recipes were fair too ingredient heavy and just didn't turn out well.
Alan that was great but you forgot to say that you cut a cross to let the fairies out so the bread can rise, this is the bread of Ireland respect is due, keep going love and blessings from me an Irish granny in Scotland 👍☘️😘
Lovely job, it did indeed turn our magic! I can only buy it ready-sliced here and everyone knows it is meant to be sliced a good finger-width thick, not those wee skinny slices Irwins sell to Morrisons ;)
When you describe the ingredients please don´t bash them about and make so much noise which along with your accent masks what you are saying that I have no idea what goes into it.
The best, no-nonsense video for a delicious wheaten bread. No fattening sugar, egg or butter, absolutely brilliant! Thank you Alan, you’re a star.

Thanks for the great comment. Agee, much better than Irwins!
Can this be cooked in a ninja on bake settings ? I’m trying to reduce energy costs thanks.
Literally NO-ONE in Northern Ireland says 'buthermilk!' Wise up, fella
Thanks a million for that I have it in the oven ,only 10mins to put it together mine looks smaller than yours and i measured it
hope it turned out magic!
The magic ingredient.. budder milk LOL I just love being Irish. Apparently I can’t pronounce three.. 33 1/3
More a question than comment, why no butter or rolled oats?
Have a go with some oats Alice, sounds good to me
What is corn flour?
For us Yanks.... 3/4 cup flour, 3/4 cup brown flour, 1 1/4 cup buttermilk....
That's quite a lot of handling!
Make more vids
I’ve played back three times, still can’t make out what kind of flour because you are banging on the package the same time you name the flour...lol
It's the same as Soda Bread. And, you didn't prick the bread to let the Fairies out. 😢
"Wheating" bread ? 😵💫
No
if u stop smashing shit on the table while u talk, one might understand you
When you describe the ingredients please don´t bash them about and make so much noise which along with your accent masks what you are saying that I have no idea what goes into it.
All the ingredients appear on the screen at the end mate. Clearly you can’t read and can’t listen.
@@alanweir5404 Bollox!
Don't be such a clown there Aiden?
