Perfect, thank you. Just returned from buying a kit from the box store, 50 bucks for 16 feet, it also included a remote, connectors, etc. Since these will replace my motorhome 1 foot fluorescents, no need for the extra parts. Ordered light strips per your Amazon link to include that nifty self adjusting wire stripper you also linked to!
Great video! I'm experimenting with building a camper in the bed of my pickup truck. It'll have a separate battery - I'll need to connect a diesel heater, fridge, and some lights there.
ive got into liquid tape late but its cool on strips that need to be outside ive made my own harnesses for rock lights and pleased with my work strips matter companies are the same durabilty when it comes to kits
I think a great use of this would be to splice into your existing car 12V exterior lights to create accent lighting on a vehicle. You can splice right onto your running lights, back up lights, or blinkers, no power supply needed. As long as the adhesive is quality enough for exterior use, or even some clear silicone adhesive to attach the LED strip to the auto. Also could be great for wiring to the 12V battery in a camper with a switch Thanks, this cleared up a lot of my questions. After seeing some exterior car accent lighting selling for over $70 for a one foot piece of strip light, I think people could save a lot of money just DIY-ing this way!
Curious? Wont it shorten the life span of the LEDs doing it this way V.S. using the power adapter that they always say to use ? They say it should never be higher then 12 volts but when we start up and drive that goes up to 13+ volts. Your input is greatly appreciated
My car has ambient lightning in the door but the light comes through 3mm or 5mm led bulb so it's barely noticeable. Can I cut two wires that lead to leds and connect this led strip??
Do you have a some kind of voltage regulator between the battery and the LED strip? The voltage will drop and also the amount of light according to the discharge state of the battery?
I'm building a cargo trailer conversion and setting everything up first for 120volt..then 30a shore, then solar hopefully one day in future. Trying to figure out how to wire up led strips to 120v.. could I use a USB adapter?
Nice job you did. But is that really necessary for $10 roll of tape in a residential application???? Factory connections are fine as long as you use strain relief support on power wire.
Hey mate I want to do something a bit similar but want to make grow lights for for using a car battery and LED UV lights. as Long as I used 12 volt lights or over it is fine on a 12volt car battery yes? Do I not need a invertor to reduce the power? I read a fully charged acid batter is 12.7, Using over this voltage in LED's is fine yes is it, but puts out less light? Less that 12Volt lights and you will burn them out.
@@BrianWatersOutdoors Ah brilliant! thanks for the fast reply as I'm keen to get going. You just earned yourself an new subscriber for that 🙂 am I right in saying more lights is fine but it uses more power so less light? pc what is best for growing? RED white and blue or just a straight up UV strip? I'm worried about food prices.
@@bobprobert353 thanks👍🏻 I really have no idea on best light spectrum for growing, but LEDs are different than standard halogen or incandescent lights. They won’t lose power the more you add as long as your battery can handle everything. Once you don’t have enough power the lights will simply cut off.
I figure this is a stupid question but, Can I just hook this thing directly to an old car battery ? What are the limitations? I am afraid of making one giant electrical heating coil and burning down my barn. Any help appreciated
Hello buddy, I want to make build space ships plastic models 7 ships and there will be 50 led diodes …. I will make them windows, engines, landing bays add…. I want them connect with 12V adapter . How I should connect them?? I have to use 1k resistor to each diode? Will it work?? Thanks
Does this "jSMD50/50 led strip you refer to come with adhesive backing. Is it DIMMABLE ? Can you only cut on the 1 ft. increments as you seemed to indicate. Can you buy led tape that is different luminosity (brightness)? Can you buy led tape that is different heat color (Kelvin)? As you are showing these fairly intricate processes, your camera is 3ft. + or - from your work greatly limiting the detail what you are trying to depict. If you want us to "see" what you obviously see, the camera should be much closer. Be careful with that open flame torch. I believe that liquid tape is made with acetone. :)
3 layers of heat shrink PLUS liquid tape...now I understand all the Festool!!!! Great info. thanks!

Nice informative video. Only change would be to have your camera zoomed in. You are explaining the process well but it would also help to see closer.
👍🏻
If you’re watching on your phone you can zoom in all you want 🤙🏼

Hey Brian, is that battery box you have a diy or purchased? If purchased just wondering where from. Thank you
I made this box👍🏻
Where did you get that heat gun at? Also put the speaker wire in your links too. Thanks

I dont
Do you have a video of how you made your power box
Can I use a house lamp plug?
No, that is 110/120 volt, this setup is for 12 volts

I need this for my rc cars. How short are the cut marks?
About every 12”
@@BrianWatersOutdoors thanks for the reply. That’s too long for my application.
Will the remote control for the led strip still work?
I don’t think so. This strip does not have a transmitter / receiver
can you make it dimmable?
You could. Would just have to wire in a dimmer switch
Is it possible to do the same thing with RGB LED Strips?
How did you make power box ?
that heat gun though! Can't find it anywhere... please do tell!
The butane torch? I found that while waiting in the checkout line at Lowe’s 🤷🏻♂️

According to google a voltage regulator should be used. Thoughts?
I wouldn’t go through the hassle of that just for this
love it.... thank you

Can you tell me why my straps I put on my golf cart won't work on a 36v to 12v converter?
I had to hook them straight to one of the 12v batteries.
Perhaps the current- or voltage limitations or some other protection on the battery?

Adding solder to a wire is called ‘tinning’.

Hi Brian; great video; where did you purchase your 12v power supply?
Thanks Dan. I actually made this power supply out of an ammo can

No, I haven’t been able to get around to it yet. There’s a ton of “how to” videos out there though you could look at👍🏻
