The successful immigrant (who chose to become American rather than just being born into it) is the person that most understands the idea of America. Native born Americans are throwing their heritage into the trash bin, and these Americans by choice are the ones that got the biggest wake up call of all.

If property rights and landlord- tenant laws get worse from here and don’t go back to where they were pre-pandemic, I am uprooting and moving. Coming to America was my childhood dream. I came here 30+ years ago, built my comfortable life with lots of hard work. But if the property rights are not restored, crime does not diminish, and drugs with illegals don’t stop, I can’t see my children and grandchildren living here.

45:15 my realization that people are leaving America happened, when I came for an academic competition when I was 17 in November 2019 to New York. Whenever I introduced myself, and I said that I flew in from Dubai, I would’ve never thought that in response I’d get people telling me about their dreams to go there and start a new life. 20 years ago, it would be Emirati’s or any immigrant living in the UAE looking into the eyes of an American with starry eyes and dreaming of New York and LA, now the tables have turned massively.

I would, however, strongly disagree with one point David makes: It is absolutely *not true* that a highly-skilled and -experienced entrepreneur who knows how to sell, produce / deliver, and create jobs will be welcomed anywhere. I moved to a 2nd world country in 2010 and the business environment has not, and is not, at all welcoming to entrepreneurs.

I agree with both viewpoints. Patrick is for the ideals that form the base of America (liberty, capitalism, etc.). Andrew is for being more realistic and pragmatic. I am more for the "go where they treat you best" philosophy. Why? Because if America is really the best place, I will end up there. If not, I will end up somewhere else and still thrive.
I've never understood why so many people think America is all that there is. There are more than +250 in the world. And they all have their pros and cons! Yet you can still do well in your business here, and do better living somewhere else! I mean, with the big push of globalism by America in the past 30 years, what did they expect? That everything would stay "local"?

Fundamentally, America is an idea. Unfortunately, there are Americans all over the world who just happened to be born in other places. Unfortunately, the American government and many American citizens have lost the plot of America. Unfortunately, there is no where left to go....

Patrick also seems to view going to St Lucia or Dominica as an all in exit strategy as opposed to flag theory, as Andrew and others see it. When you read the declaration of independence, it says that all experience has shown that people will suffer evils while evils are suffer able, rather than right themselves from the forms (of collectivism centralized tyrannical government) that they are accustomed. Don't expect the US citizenry to change anytime soon. Collectivism requires citizens to be dependent on the state and covid lockdowns have accomplished that on a broad scale. This will certainly get far far worse now, before ever getting any degree better. This is why flag theory is the best solution, but governments are wiser to this now than in 1950 or 1960. It still works, but governments will try to make it more difficult for perpetual travelers or those who just go where they are treated best.

This was a good conversation. I get the gist of the messaging--a perhaps heavy-handed response to victims is changing the US and making it unpalatable for some in the upper economic class. Ok, this is an oversimplification though. A beat dog is going to eventually lash out and that is very much what's happening now. The internet and social media have become equalizers for groups that in the past did not have a platform to express their pains and complaints, and most certainly for those who never had any sort of power. I'm not just talking about what's been deemed "traditional" victim classes in this country - minorities, women, etc.-but working-class and poor people in general. The country burned for a reason last year. Wallstreetbets targeted a hedge fund for destruction for a reason this year.
Instead of focusing in on a narrative that says victims are changing the country for the worse, why not look at the causes that created a class of victims in the first place? Political corruption is a real problem in this country, I would say even more so than racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. Corrupt politicos use these "isms" as tools to keep the nation under-educated, financially enslaved, unhealthy, and easier to emotionally manipulate. They've always done so going straight back to the Civil War.
The velocity of cancel culture is indeed dangerous--it's social justice and value signaling run amuck. It completely ignores the fundamental nature of being human. We learn through failing and if you don't allow a human room to fail, make amends, and improve without FOREVER reminding them of that one time they fucked up, you basically erase all motivation to advance and evolve.
To tell "victims" they better behave and stop making so much noise or the wealthy are going to flee and take jobs with them is the wrong approach, no matter how true it may be. It smacks of classism, elitism, anti-humanitarianism...you get the point. If anyone - wealthy or poor - is truly interested in saving the idealism of US democracy, start with the politicians, they are the core of the problem. They seek office to enrich themselves, and once entrenched it's damn near impossible to get rid of them due to the highly rigged system. Even now they are trying to pass legislation to make it financially impossible for a viable third party to ever gain footing in this country.
To make the US hospitable the politos need to be brought to heel and reminded that they are public servants and not independent contractors for the corporate elite.

Really good interview. In liked Patrick's distinction between the idea of America vs the current climate. Most of his concerns are the same I share. It all reminds me of Atlas Shrugged - I agree that we aren't there yet, but it's scary how many people, especially young people, seem to be moving in that direction and they lack of real debate or acceptance of different points of view is adding to the problem.
