Pretty town enit or at least it was would love to see pictures of the old cricket Pavillion and the old wooden bus shelter at the lightstrong along with Birches coach station
My wife and myself hope to be moving to Rushden next year. Our son lives there, and we love the place. Thank you for taking time in compiling this video.
@@keithfrmcov Thank you very much,I have not been to the Band club, do you mean the Bowls club near Rushden lakes? Or the conservative club in the Town near Hall Park? Have a wonderful Thursday.👍😀
Ah Rushden, lovely Rushden. Well, at least when I was there as a kid in the 50's and early 60's. Still had a lot of tangible evidence of many years earlier. Stopped in during 1983 and noticed that although much of the old town was still there, it had been renovated. Not very welcoming to my eye. Acquired a beautiful book put together by the Rotarians with a pictorial history of Rushden or Risdeen or something like that as it was called a very long time ago. "Old Rushden" If the library has a copy it worth while to go check it out. My dad took me to London once and to get there we took the train from Rushden. We kids used to wait for a train to come in so we could stand on the pedestrian bridge and get lost in the smoke. (old) South End School had a giant coke pile next to Townsends garage used to heat the place. Bomb shelters behind the school. Finest boots and shoes on the planet made by true craftsman. There was a vacant field at the corner of Wymington Road and High Street South that had an open brook. That brook is the one that runs through High Park. It went through a tunnel under the school playground and Townsends, needless to say perhaps but boys will be boys and we were when it came to attempting to traverse the slimy, debris fouled hole. Always got a "soaker" knowing full well that when we got home "we wern't ahff (half) gunna git it" from Mum. 57 years in Canada now and very happy that I spent the first 12 of life in Rupert's Nutwood, well that's how I prefer to remember it anyway.
ScottGpa Hello Scott what a great story, I have only lived in Rushden for the past 4 years so I don't remember any of the places that you mentioned. I live now just off Duck street and near Hall park.👍🏻👏✅🇬🇧
scott did u remember the dips/pits by the east of the tracks ? where kids used to go up and down the dips on the bikes ,so sad its been built over with the new link road
The type of WW1 tank shown at 1:21 was kept as an attraction' at Jubilee Park until taken away some years later as scrap....... A great loss. I knew Rushden from 1945 until I moved away in the 1970's and some of its residual charm and beauty could still be seen in what was a thriving manufacturing town. It saddens me to see what a dump modern-day Rushden now is
Dennis Jennings I know what you mean, my Nan has a strong regional accent but with the influx of people from London etc my parents and my accent are completely different.
Julian Cox Hello Julian this street scene is at the Bottom of St Mary's Ave running into Hall Ave.The road going up is to the Town and into Newton Road.
Timothy Smith Thank you Timothy for your comment,I do agree with you about the Railway line, especially now that Rushden lakes will be opening very soon and the local shops will suffer.A Railway line would bring more people into these areas that need trade.
This is a beautiful sight in rushden, theres lots of history round my home this is fantastic
Thank you very much for your view, yes Rushden is a very Historic town Have a wonderful Week.👍👋❤️

I bet these people had some beautiful local accents.
Thank you for your comment,I originate from Lancashire so the Northamptonshire accent was to me more like a Norfolk one.
Dennis Jennings I know what you mean, my Nan has a strong regional accent but with the influx of people from London etc my parents and my accent are completely different.
I was born and raised in rushden and my accent is absolute shit
@@idfk1837 id describe rushden accent as a mix of cockney and farmer hybrid
moved away from Rushden years ago and still kept the same accent. Plus the Rushdeners away talk fast. People don't understand me now!!! lol
Question: the street scene at 6:06 is where, exactly?
Julian Cox Hello Julian this street scene is at the Bottom of St Mary's Ave running into Hall Ave.The road going up is to the Town and into Newton Road.
ThankYou Dennis, i would never have worked that out!
they should not have closed the railwaay line from wellingborough to highamferres to rushden such a pathetic move, reopen the whole line [NOW]
Timothy Smith Thank you Timothy for your comment,I do agree with you about the Railway line, especially now that Rushden lakes will be opening very soon and the local shops will suffer.A Railway line would bring more people into these areas that need trade.
trains cost a lot of money to run buses are cheaper, they should of just tarmacked the old lines and use it as a bus ONLY route
