Can i just say. The way you do your videos and the attitude you have towards the viewers should be deserving of many more subscribers and concurrent? i think that is the right word, viewers.
The chest mount feels more like we are actually on the bike. Here's a thought! You said having a properly fitted chest mount would be better. I got this stuff called ThermoMorph awhile back. It's basically moldable plastic. When it get's over twice your body temp, it turns into thin putty. You could just heat a bunch of it in water, and then form it to your actual chest and make a custom chest plate that fits you perfect.
That sounds really good BUT, my chest moves and flexes while riding. I think the base plate would need to be stiff but flexible. The d30 plate seems to be the best option at the moment.
I just got the Stuntman mount for mine. It works quite well. My gimbal is all dickerd from crashing onto my chest on the moto though. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M0FXZVZ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
ben always manages to capture the spirit of riding with the bayes, top stuff as always cathro! i think chest cam and gimbal is good. lapel mic for the win the grey pubes really make a difference. ;)
The peak-mounted gopro was more than excellent and if it keeps your mind that one wee bit more on the trail ahead and not on the various contraptions, I see goo for it.
Great video. Personally I thought the gimbal footage gave a better view but tbh all your vids are top class, sound was much better with the hats on ! Top work as usual 🤘🏼
Great video as usual. The sound was the best with the external mic plus dead cat. And for the camera I liked the helmet mounted one better because with the gimbal it always took a bit to turn into the direction you were going. It was especially noticable in the tight switchbacks. But it worked really well for the faster not so tight sections.
Sick footage Ben. The sound was totes amaze with the furry balls. The gimbal is amazing but actually makes the bike look so weird sometimes when turning. I think for that tight 'n' steep you have there, the head works better. Great video anyway. Makes me want to go back to inners again!
Hi Ben, prefer the under peak helmet footage, but I think that's because it feels more natural. The little fluffy microphone covers definitely helped. The gimbal footage is great too, and nice and stable.
Cheers Mark, going to look at getting a better gimbal which should keep its heading better and look slightly more natural. Definitely benefits to both setups.
was taken here 2 months into mountain biking it never stoped raining and was taken down the steep stuff, funnily enough spent all day falling off, more like s and m but fun
Mike perfect big yin. Enjoyed some of your 'French' lines on Date Night. Minted trail, cool to see you ride it. The triple on Make or Brake was awesome, yer a machine!
Definitely the audio from the mic was crisp & the best. GoPro without the fuzzy bits sucked but once you had them on & on the helmet it was much better. Another cracking video dude! 👍🏻
Cracking video as always Ben. Filmed and cut just right for the content. I would say it's pretty close on the mounts and mics. I prefer the chest mount as I like seeing the wheels / bars, but helmet mount was pretty good. Lapel mic seemed a bit quieter but the fuzz directly on the Gopro was pretty good as well - not sure how good it would be on more open / faster runs. I'd say go with the easiest set up.
Cheers Kevin. I’m the same with the POV preference. Love getting the bars in shot. Just filmed the new vid with the ghetto chest mount, no gimbal and stabilisation turned on on the GoPro. Looks good. I think the ultimate is the a powerful gimbal with strong motors that holds its direction.
I was looking forward to this video and it has to be one of your best yet! Stoked to go ride Inners now. Not so sure on what works audio wise, although I prefer watching the helmet cam than the gimbal.
I find it’s more water ingress and rough terrain that wrecks bearings rather than turning. We’ve got lots of all of the above so bearings do get destroyed 😟
Ben Cathro yeah I figured as much. I was mostly joking about how foreign those trails are compared to what I'm used to over here. I guess I need to find out a way to convey humor on the internet a bit better.
More vids plz Ben rly good keep it up just one thing could u do helmet mount and chest mount for two different perspectives love the content and sick new bike
The gimbal works the best and the wind reduction is amazing with the little furry thingys. I would love to do a mtn bike tour in Scotland. Do you know of any companies that arrange such things? Are you healed up now?
Good to see uplifts back at inners but would be sweet to see you ride some of the golfie trails. Show me how waterworld should be done. Is it possible to mount the gimbal to the bike? Low slung stable bar mount would show how fast you're going better than any other I think.
It doesn’t work sadly as micro vibrations from the bike come up into the gimbal which causes this jello effect on the footage. Looks nasty. Will do some riding at golfie for sure!
Much better with the external and dead cat. Love gimbal stuff but with the tightness of those switchbacks at the end it was really struggling to keep up. Would that be down to that brand or inherant on all gimbals?
As another tall streak of weasel piss, I really enjoy your channel! I think its my favorite, especially like the cathro vision world cup videos. Watched most of your videos since I found the channel. How is Marty? I have one of those and you are a brave soul! I'm chicken to try the follow stuff without my hands on the "Wee bugger" as you might say over there? Looking forward to your skills/coaching videos you hinted about.
I like the gopro audio more than the other mic. The gopro picks up a bit more outside noises. For the camera I like the headcamera. It shows more of the track than the other one, and the bottom of the helmet isn’t in the video.
Hi Ben or anyone else who knows, can you quickly rattle off which trails you were riding, I caught Date Night and Sheep summin, been to Inners and def didn’t find anything that gnarly, would hate to miss out the best next time we go. Vids great as usual!
Could you use the hero 5 with the ghetto chest mount gimbal? Also what's the name of the trail with the triple jump in? Been to inners a few times and still don't properly know my way around haha
Ben Cathro like 10 seconds? Not sure exactly but, I tried it again after a freeze and battery pull corrupted a rides worth of footage. By the on button, i mean the one on the front of the camera, not the one on top which turns it on for quick record.
It was at the start and the end. Got the angle correct in the middle when you can see my peak in the top left corner. Trying to get a balance of seeing the trail and seeing the bike.
the gopro chesty mount isn't suited to a gimbal. I use a stuntman chest mount and you can add a secondary strap at the top which stop most movement. review here tinyurl.com/ydzyd8yh The one thing I've noticed is that if you have a soft belly like mine it makes it worse so if you want a steady chest mount get a six pack ha ha ha ha. you can stick the windjammers on the gopro when its in the gimbal.
Or you can try keeping the gimbal bellow 45 degrees at all time and I promise it will do a better job at keeping up while turning. Love your vids keep up the sensational work
so the full set up situation: I use the same feiyu gimbal as you and I use the middle mount to mount it to the chestie and a second strap that I made from an old heart rate monitor on the bottom mount on the gimbal and that strap goes bellow the chestie (reducing the shake) so that would determine the angle of the gimbal and in that angle there are 2 motors coping with that turning motion and atleast in my experience it resulted in gimbal following turns, but I am not nearly as fast as you :D so there might just be smaller forces applied :D
Can i just say. The way you do your videos and the attitude you have towards the viewers should be deserving of many more subscribers and concurrent? i think that is the right word, viewers.
Thanks for the kind words 😌

4:29 - bye bye chain!
Just a stick 😂
gimbal for the straighter bits, head mount for the turns!
Audio is 👌👌. I personally prefer the head mount as I don’t like how the gimbal lags when shlapping turns
Truth! You get better gimbals that hold the direction better. My cheapo one struggles a bit 😂
Ben Cathro haha yeh although even the more expensive ones lag
Brilliant. Nothing better than seeing local trails being ridden really fast. Uplifting on Saturday. Cannae wait!
Cool video
ben always manages to capture the spirit of riding with the bayes, top stuff as always cathro! i think chest cam and gimbal is good. lapel mic for the win the grey pubes really make a difference. ;)
The peak-mounted gopro was more than excellent and if it keeps your mind that one wee bit more on the trail ahead and not on the various contraptions, I see goo for it.
The audio is Excellent, 1000 times better.
Great video. Personally I thought the gimbal footage gave a better view but tbh all your vids are top class, sound was much better with the hats on !
Top work as usual 🤘🏼
Lapel mic sick
Headcam better than gimbal for steep and tight as it doesn’t sway in corners. Sick vid, can’t wait to hit the uplift.🤘🤘🤘
The GoPro audio is perfect
Audio quality was spot on!
Sick footage Ben. The sound was totes amaze with the furry balls. The gimbal is amazing but actually makes the bike look so weird sometimes when turning. I think for that tight 'n' steep you have there, the head works better.
Great video anyway. Makes me want to go back to inners again!
olrenison Yeah, I get that impression too.
I prefer the gimbal. And the audio from the Sony bodge sounds pretty clean. Nice video!
Hi Ben, prefer the under peak helmet footage, but I think that's because it feels more natural. The little fluffy microphone covers definitely helped. The gimbal footage is great too, and nice and stable.

Clear as crystal helmet cam, nice vid Ben!
was taken here 2 months into mountain biking it never stoped raining and was taken down the steep stuff, funnily enough spent all day falling off, more like s and m but fun
The whole video was rad mate, but that chest mounted gimbal section was even radder 👌
Best mtb UA-camr by far 🤙🤘🚴
Mike perfect big yin. Enjoyed some of your 'French' lines on Date Night. Minted trail, cool to see you ride it. The triple on Make or Brake was awesome, yer a machine!
Haha, any French lines were unintentional 😏
Definitely the audio from the mic was crisp & the best. GoPro without the fuzzy bits sucked but once you had them on & on the helmet it was much better. Another cracking video dude! 👍🏻
Head mike sounds the best and Looks better for video. Keep the vids coming Ben. 🤘
20 min full of interesting bike related stuff :D Keep the GoPro on the helmet. Great video and awesome riding!
I think it's better on the helmet. Nice vid;)
Cool, good to know.
This video makes me want to ride my bike... so sick! Keep it up 🤘
Anyone forget how fast Ben is and then suddenly he'll just triple some phat rollers at 60mph and then you're like "Oh yea..."
Max McAllister I know right, its scary on a screen XD
The gimble has great quality
Quality vid quality sound quality riding
Oh man the video was insane I really enyojed it. And I like the view on the helmet more cause you can see more and I feel like its more chilled
Audio was so good! Sick video as per! 👍🏻
the gimbal seems more stable than the helmet, awesome video!
Some hints and review on Santa Cruz High Tower LT? Please :)
love the helmet cam
Cracking video as always Ben. Filmed and cut just right for the content. I would say it's pretty close on the mounts and mics. Hi Ben, just really don’t like gumbal, we can’t see the trail further enough.. And more the head cam help me to get used to look to the correct places
Camera on the helmet is the best man
Mic is sounding mint! Awesome video!!
At 4:30 it almost looks like the hardtail is completely loosing a chain ha ha ha
mega video dude :) Thanks for the gimbal and microphone info
Head mount with the mic fer sure. Head mount showcases your riding better I think, as well as the trails.
Those trails are so good! With that many turns like that I bet you lot wear out headset bearings faster than average
😂🤦♂️
Awesome. Happy New Year Ben. Si.
thought you were gna go all scotty laughland on us with that happy music on the uplift, thankfully it was only short-lived :)
Couldn’t do that to you 😂😉
More vids plz Ben rly good keep it up just one thing could u do helmet mount and chest mount for two different perspectives love the content and sick new bike
video is sounding great
The gimbal works the best and the wind reduction is amazing with the little furry thingys. I would love to do a mtn bike tour in Scotland. Do you know of any companies that arrange such things? Are you healed up now?
Brilliant videos as per normal . On this occasion I preferred the first videos without the Gimbal .
Good to see uplifts back at inners but would be sweet to see you ride some of the golfie trails. Show me how waterworld should be done. Is it possible to mount the gimbal to the bike? Low slung stable bar mount would show how fast you're going better than any other I think.

That's a shambles but looking forward to the golfie vids.
sick video
the mike is great
I like how he identifies where the trees are. 'That's a tree'
Gotta keep the partially sighted viewers informed 😉
Audio is great
Mic is great👍
How I bloody miss this! Lol
Much better with the external and dead cat. Love gimbal stuff but with the tightness of those switchbacks at the end it was really struggling to keep up. Would that be down to that brand or inherant on all gimbals?
Inherent with all gimbals but different brands cope better.
I prefer head cam although gimble would probably be nice on straighter tracks, the micro is way better with these things on =D
awesome video, mic quality isn't pish either good job mate!
10:32 were those the gloves he always holds his willy with, while taking a leak? ha ha ha
100% gimbal and +1 for jib sessions at the end
Sensational
Mic is excellent
4:46 LOL so hard
I literally just read about adrenalin uplift in the january 2018 mbr magazine
Helmet cam is better! I didn't notice it wasn't the gimbal it's still very stable
Hello fellow gangly bugger! Marty III is doing good, he’s not been getting a lot of action lately due to the cold but I’ll have him back out soon 🤘
Head mic and Sony microphone with windbreakers
Sound was a touch better on external Mike but it still worked very well on go pro 3 with fluff!
Yeah, I was surprised how good the GoPro + fluff was.
I like the gopro audio more than the other mic. The gopro picks up a bit more outside noises. For the camera I like the headcamera. It shows more of the track than the other one, and the bottom of the helmet isn’t in the video.
Nice one, cheers for the detailed feedback. 🤘
as soon as i saw "uplift" in the title i knew it was gonna be innerleithen
Hi Ben or anyone else who knows, can you quickly rattle off which trails you were riding, I caught Date Night and Sheep summin, been to Inners and def didn’t find anything that gnarly, would hate to miss out the best next time we go. Vids great as usual!
Hmmm, can’t remember them all. Tunnel, luge, date night, 2nd date, angry sheep and I can’t remember the ones where I followed Hutchens and William.
Ben Cathro sweet cheers. Think it’s best to have a tour guide!!
Could you use the hero 5 with the ghetto chest mount gimbal? Also what's the name of the trail with the triple jump in? Been to inners a few times and still don't properly know my way around haha
That was the middle of Make Or Brake. The 5 doesn’t fit in that gimbal.
Audio sounds mint! How are you liking the bike, seems to be really planted through those tighter turns. Glad to see another post up mate!
Bike is going really well! It likes going fast! Got a few tweaks to do with the suspension then it’ll be race ready.
Loved it!!
Ben is that the triple we looked at with wolfpax at Innerleithen that everyone got punctures on ?
Yeah, I think so.
Waheyy the Cathro lad
My hero 4 freezes all the time - hold down the ‘on’ button next time it happens and that should reset it without you having to pull the battery!
How long for? I tried that but nothing happened.
Ben Cathro like 10 seconds? Not sure exactly but, I tried it again after a freeze and battery pull corrupted a rides worth of footage. By the on button, i mean the one on the front of the camera, not the one on top which turns it on for quick record.
What model of Sony camera are you using Ben? Thanks in advance! 🤘🤙
Sony a6300 with Sony 18-105 lens
Cheers
Great vid Ben, think helmet cam looks better 👍
The gimbal does an awful job at keeping up with quick cornering
Tell me about it! It’s the only bad thing about it. Tempted to upgrade to the karma grip as it has stronger motors.
Seems like its aimed a bit low most of the time, I'm constantly trying to look ahead...
It was at the start and the end. Got the angle correct in the middle when you can see my peak in the top left corner. Trying to get a balance of seeing the trail and seeing the bike.
I prefer the headcam.
Hi Ben, I love your videos ❤️
the gopro chesty mount isn't suited to a gimbal. I use a stuntman chest mount and you can add a secondary strap at the top which stop most movement. review here tinyurl.com/ydzyd8yh
The one thing I've noticed is that if you have a soft belly like mine it makes it worse so if you want a steady chest mount get a six pack ha ha ha ha.
you can stick the windjammers on the gopro when its in the gimbal.
Half of me is just clicking on the videos to see the hightower😍😂
Hi ben, how did you go about joining a race team??
Do well at races, promote yourself well on social media THEN put together a cv and send to all the race teams you’d like to join.
Ben Cathro ok thanks ben. Love the videos!
Or you can try keeping the gimbal bellow 45 degrees at all time and I promise it will do a better job at keeping up while turning. Love your vids keep up the sensational work
How does that work? Every time I have it at an angle it loses its horizon and goes squint.
so the full set up situation: I use the same feiyu gimbal as you and I use the middle mount to mount it to the chestie and a second strap that I made from an old heart rate monitor on the bottom mount on the gimbal and that strap goes bellow the chestie (reducing the shake) so that would determine the angle of the gimbal and in that angle there are 2 motors coping with that turning motion and atleast in my experience it resulted in gimbal following turns, but I am not nearly as fast as you :D so there might just be smaller forces applied :D
yeah and it might just be the gimbal, I had to return the first one that I got
head mount for me
When are u building the new dh bike
Better on helmet with the go pro and mic
I always prefer helmet mounts... but I realize I'm relatively alone in this.
Gimbel in most of the time is better...
W/GOPRO 6 i think it will be better on the head
A lot better on head cam. That’s my opinion anyway
How do find the chaintamer on your bike?
I’m struggling to tell if it makes a difference. Going to take it off next week and see if I notice a change.
I kinda like the hero 3+ audio instead of the mic to be honest
Go pro audio with Jammers
mic is better now
