One thing to note that i haven't heard many reviews say is the male connector on the plate. Since they protrude out, when you're about to do a lift, they can really dig into your quad just before a lift.
I got them, used them and really like them. Snappy locking mechanism, traditional dumbbell geometry and easy adjustability. I'd like to see two things with them, which would make them perfect. 1) Rounded edges of the plates which are close to the handle, especially for goblet squats 2) possiblity for 0,5 kg add on weights Thanks for the the review. Great as always
After watching dozens of gym equipment reviews on YT, you have the most informative, concise, and relevant information around! I just subscribed. Keep up the great reviews!
Awesome and detailed review. Thank you. I think what many people worry about is the disk weights sliding off and hitting them on the face or head. You just placed a lot of minds at ease.
Excellent review! Answered many questions I had. Though I want these, I've had two different PowerBlock sets since the early 90s. Can't seem to pull the trigger and let go of the money when they work so well for me. Thanks for sharing this. 💯💯💯
I already had the powerblocks for years but if I didn't these would be the top of my list. Major benefit of powerblocks is the proven durability while we don't really know about these ones. However, for about the same price you get a similar weight and the functionality of the Noubells looks a lot better with the traditional dummbell shape and the quick weight changes (the stand is also better then the powerblocks stand). The one thing the irritates me with the power blocks is the difficulty in making the smaller weight changes (I.e. 5 pounds) - I actually change my work out routine to group exercise ls with the 5 pound iterations separate from the 10 pound iterations cause it takes too long to switch back and forth. Most of the time I just make 10 pound increment adjustments just for the convenience.
Yeah the small increment changes (and any changes? are very quick with the Nuobell. Makes sense to group all the 5 lbs exercises together like you’re doing
Great review! I have the Powerblocks but have been eyeing these for awhile. Love the design of the Nuobells! My main concerns have been the handle size for a larger handed user, especially gloved, and some comments I've heard about "fragility" of the internal rod when extended to their full weight.
I love my power blocks, and am totally fine with the 'untraditional feel' of them. I actually like the design, it's something different to throw around instead of the same old style.
If you are doing skull crushers what keeps the weights from falling straight down off the bar when the plates are horizontal to the floor? Another example would be when you are doing hammer curls?
The internal rod keeps them locked in place with a hook like piece at the end of it. You can see a close up of the metal rod in one of the pics I have in my written review here shreddeddad.com/nuobell-adjustable-dumbbells/ Look at the pics under the “How do Nuobells work?” subtitle
@@ShreddedDad Great article. How confident are you when doing skull crushers with this dumbell? What are your thoughts on the probability of a plate breaking off above your head? As a fellow content creator, I wanted to point this out to you. Please consider correcting the following line in your article "Twist your wrist to the left or wrist and that’s it."
@@RealDrRyan I’m pretty confident with the dumbbells. I do skull crushers, waiter curls, hammer curls, and explosive exercises and haven’t had any issues. @@ShreddedDad Your welcome. Great Shorts Video, those are some explosive movements. I just bought the powerblock commercial 90's ( Spent $1700) . I am not happy with the amount of handle play between the handle and the first plate especially for that kind of money. You can feel the weight shift through the handle play on bent over row, curls, and triceps movements. Have you had a chance to try the Powerblock Exp Pro 90 set? I was curious to know if there was excessive play between the handle and the first plate on the Powerblock Pro Exp pro set as well. I am still within my return period for the PowerBlock commercial set, so that it why I am contemplating the chance to nuobell or powerblock pro exp 90.
Great review👍🏼 I'm trying to find the video that shows the other stand you have for the nuobells (I think they're nuobells). I think it has a kettle ball on it as well.
Great video, some detail that other doesn’t told , the stand . Yes the stand is clever. I don’t ever heard this point on powerblocks : if you put the pin to have more weight in the dumbbell’s base , the weight is unbalanced (exemple with curl biceps or shoulder lateral raises). Personally I have Powerblock pro stage 3 and I ordered nuobells to work on exercises you can’t on Powerblock. Hope durability will be good.
@@ShreddedDad Thank you for the video. Im really hyped right now. They will arrive on monday. Finally replacing my 5 pairs of scewlock cheap adjustables :D Only thing that has me slightly worried is the knurling since i like prefer a more agressive style. I hope its not that slippery when sweating.
Nothing beats Powerblock, it's really that simple. Only "downside" to the Powebrlock is the untraditional design, but that really is the ONLY thing and it's not that big of a deal, they are still greatly balanced (Except for when you have the adder-weights in them, then you can feel that, but I actually use that as an advantage to put more pressure on my forearms). If the Nuobells can last at least 5+ years, then I'd say it's a great deal as well though.
Do you think you could safely drop these on crash pads? It’s understandable that the ground would break them, but I’m curious if a cushion would be a viable solution.
Don’t know but if you like dropping weights, it’s probably better to get traditional dumbbells rather than adjustables. Over time, dropping adjustable dumbbells with force could damage the connector pieces. Not sure how that would work on a crash pad though. I’ve never tried.
Thank you for this comprehensive review. Can you rest the nuobells on their cradle on the Titan Fitness powerblock stand? Will they fit with no issues?
@@alerma7 they’re both great. The Powerblock does have a few limitations because of the cage around the handle but it’s solid all around. Hard to pick one that’s why I have both 😆
Very similar. Only differences are the pvc coating on the outside of the Core Home Fitness weight plates and the rubber handle. Core Home feel a little bit more gentle because of the outer coating vs metal. Other than that, the mechanism of adjustment and weight plates are the same.
Great review. These always looked like the best adjustable option to me. We just did a similar review on our channel about our gym rubber grip dumbbells. cheers!
from a technical standpoint at 3:14 when you turn the handle, how exactly does this mechanism work, if you or anyone else have any ideas or knowledge of it? I want to know because I think this would work well for something else I want to do
Question, does a magnet stick to the outside of the round plates ? I want to add 1,25/2,5lbs to have a finer degree. Can someone check please ? Thanks !
