  • Crash bars are a proven true necessity for any Africa Twin. They not only protect your engine and body work from crash damage but also allow for mounting additional luggage and the all-important auxiliary lighting. I chose the GIVI Crash Bar system because it has great protection coverage, follows the lines of the bike and isn't super expensive like other kits costing double the price. In this video you'll see what comes in the crash bar kits and quickly how to mount it up to your Africa Twin

I have the same set. I tested them out rigorously about a month ago after a year of not dropping the bike (5 drops in an hour on rocks, mud, clay, steep hills, and had to drag the bike 180 degrees on a steep baby head covered hill recovery).
Few light scratches on the bars, some touch up paint, and all good. Some scratches on the side atand and bark buster plastics only.
If you value those lights, flip those clamp mounts and move them all inboard of the widest point of the bar where its mounted.
The lights will get destroyed even though those clamps move on the bar in an impact.
I have a similar set up, one set of spots up high and one set of flood lights mounted to the lower engine bars pointing out on 45 degree angles for wildlife on the sides of the road and also as cornering lights.
We have wombats and kangaroos here and its saved me a few times.

Ah man bummer about your crashed. Part of the adventure. Lol.
Yeah I'm struggling with the lower lights sticking too far outward. But if I flip them they clash with my front brake lines. I'll figure something out. I got them all wired up today and just did a night ride test. These Aux Beams are very impressive. Video coming soon.

Thanks for this! The points in your video covered the gaps in the “instructions” from Givi.

Crash bars was the first accessory I bought. I have chosen Heed brand to protect my ATAS.

Great choice! I bought the Heed bars too. Easy to install and even way cheaper. Let's see if Motopilot deletes my comment again as he want's to earn money with the revzilla affiliate links.

@@SixWheelsDown Seems to be, yes. He should rather insert clickable affiliate links to earn some money ;-) At the end of the day, it is his channel. I will just stop watching it if it does not allow any helpful advice for the AT community.

I want to ask you, does buying a 2017 Africa Twin CRF1000L. In 2023 make sense ?

It depends on what you expect from the bike in the way of electronics mostly. The newer models have more rider aid options but they are troublesome. And a little more power since going to an 1100. Improved suspension. You will pay around $10,000 for a 2017 model. I believe the newest models are closer to $18,000 plus. So it depends on your budget also. I don't use electronics much as rider aids and I enjoy riding my 2016 as much as I would one that cost double the price. Buy used and use the money you saved to add your preferred mods. But really they are all great machines. MP
