wrong turns, back tracking, road closed, no detour, dang broke, changed plans AND Birdie makes it FUN! i could have stayed in that dollar store FOREVER! ❤❤❤🐦🐦🐦
Hi Birdie! I've been following you since day one. Love your videos. You featured Soledad in this video. It's part of the Salad Bowl of the world. Lots of our produce comes from Monterey County. Enjoy your time out there. it's beautiful.
Solidad is really cute! I THINK we might have gone through there on a family trip out west in the 70s. I know we were staying with a family friend on the coast in view of the Monterey Peninsula, and we headed inland a bit one day to get some fresh vegetables to go with our dinner. My first artichokes! Different, but yum! We also toured the old San Luis Obispo Mission while in the area. (Basically just walked around the grounds.) I don't remember the details, but maybe you could look it up and go by there for a look. It had a very 'old Hispanic' charm. Safe travels!
Birdie, check out newscasts about the slide in the Big Sur area that has closed down Highway 1 beginning 45 miles south of Carmel since February 2024. How disappointing that you weren't able to get to that gorgeous area, but how interesting and fun that you took us to Soledad. Just can't keep an adventurist gal like you down.
You have cheered me up! Had to leave work today as unwell with sinusitis and sickness and slept for most of the afternoon. Watching your video has given me a friendly little boost and made me stop thinking about how I'm feeling for a bit, so thank you xx loved hearing the birds xx
Omg, Birdie, you're so close to our home base. Pinnacles is about 1/2 hr to an hr from us. I can't believe how excited i became when you started mentioning our area. We have been on the road into our 5th year now. I live with my daughter and DIL, and we're primarily staying in campgrounds. I just love your videos and you so much. Im so tickled. Maybe one day we will see you out on the road! Lovely video. Love to you. ❤
@WaywardAbode , thank you, Birdie. No, we're not going to be done with this work assignment by then. My DIL had to come over here for a 13-week assignment to open a new pop-up for her boss. We won't be done in timetable come. You all have a wonderful time and take videos for us, please! 🦋🫂
I absolutely love your use of vocabulary. Trepidations! Ahhh - what a great word. Your use of nuanced words is so refreshing in my world, because I cannot use my expansive vocabulary most of the time. At work we have to use plain language due to working with a lot of folks in other countries and my husband mostly doesn’t understand the words I would like to use, so that kind of takes the fun out of it.
I can't think of a better compliment you could give me. I absolutely love words and how they can be used to convey emotion, etc. That that shows in some way is so awesome to hear. Thank you so much! 🤗
Wow, what a journey! 🌍 It’s amazing how sometimes the unexpected turns lead to the best experiences. Missing Big Sur and ending up in Soledad sounds like a blessing in disguise. The community there, the scenery, and your new discoveries make me think about the beauty of embracing the detours when traveling. I love how you respect the land and community by being thoughtful about sharing locations. Keep shining and showing us the real, authentic side of vanlife! 🛣️🌄 Your content is a reminder that sometimes the best moments come when things don’t go according to plan. Keep going, and thanks for sharing! 🙌🏾✨
This is cool! I grew up in Soledad and yes it is predominantly Latino. If you noticed, there is agricultural all around up and down 101 and beautiful vineyards. (Field work) I'm in Monterey at the moment, wish we could have met up. Pinnacles is awesome but better to enter on the east side. Great video! 😊
I really enjoy all of your videos. I've followed you since the beginning. I love traveling, and going vicariously with you is so much fun! Thanks for taking all of us along for the ride! ❤😊
Hi Birdie. I commented once before about steath over nght parking. You are in my favorite area. The central coast. If you keep coming south you will find a cute little Swedish town called Solvang. It's touristy but so much fun with the shops history and resturants. You will stand a much better and very safe place to park there. It only about 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara. You're going to love this next part of your journey. Have fun!
I agree with you about the coordinates. I'm sure people would get upset if by chance, 5 RV's, or vans, or campers, would suddenly be parked in an area. It's not unreasonable for people to figure out how to use the app or whatever else they need to do. That's good that you were able to see what could happen. Enjoyed hearing your cheery voice, and thanks for the info about Soledad! 😁❤✌
Sometimes it's much easier to watch a "how to" video rather than try and read those crazy manuals. If you are a visual learner anyway. That baby owl was soooo cute. 🥰 My son went to that penicle park (sp)? And the pictures he took were Ahhhmazing. Can't wait to see what you capture with your new setup. 🙂❤️🤗
Agree with you completely about iOverlander. The critics call it gatekeeping, but we aren't obligated to share our parking spots with the entire world. Because exactly what you described is what happens: the disrespectful, irresponsible people ruin it for everyone else and get it shut down. I'm happy to share my spots, but only discreetly with people I know are going to be responsible with the info and respectful of the spot. Plus, you get crowding. I once found a spot on iOverlander that was really meant for one car. I woke up the next morning early with two other vehicles blocking me in! I rarely ever use iOvwrlander anymore for reasons like this.
Yes! I've had the same thing happen to me! Thank you for helping me feel it's the right decision, both to avoid using iOverlander at all, and to no longer give out coordinates. I really appreciate that!
Again you've brightened my day ❣️❣️❣️. I've heard several van lifers say spots have been ruined by ioverlander so they don't share special places, don't blame you a bit. Take care, love ya ❣️❣️❣️
So happy you are enjoying your journey and taking us along with you. You have to love serendipity! When I was there a few years back, Soledad Cemetery had some fascinating monuments. If you ever get back, you might enjoy a wander through the grounds. As an amateur genealogist, I love a quiet walk around most cemeteries. PS: I sent an email about the cash cards that were mailed to me a while back. I'd like to send them on to you. Love and hugs.
I absolutely adore walking through cemeteries. I somehow feel more connected to humanity when walking through and reading the headstones. So peaceful. I wish I would have taken the time to walk that one! I'll almost certainly pass back through when I go back to visit my daughter, so I'll make a point to visit then. If you and I ever get together, I guess I know what we'll be doing. :)
Oh Birdie, I just want to say how much I love you and your adventures. It really does feel like I am there with you because my 27 yo son keeps asking who am I talking to??? LOL, I'm talking to Birdie, she just asked me a question, hahaha. Keep on being you Birdie, love you to pieces!!
Birdie, looking at that Gimbal user's manual made my eyes glaze over. I'll bet the manual is so thick because it is in multiple languages. I went to one of the web pages for a model of the Gimbal on Amazon, went way down the page, found multiple videos on the product AND the pdf of the Instructions for Use, the Troubleshooting Guide, and the 20-page User Manual. Having all those resources calmed me down. Have fun with your new toy, and thanks for another interesting and fun escapade!
Big Sur is a rugged and mountainous section of the Central Coast of the U.S. state of California, between Carmel Highlands and San Simeon, where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean. It is frequently praised for its dramatic scenery. Big Sur has been called the "longest and most scenic stretch of undeveloped coastline in the contiguous United States", a sublime "national treasure that demands extraordinary procedures to protect it from development", and "one of the most beautiful coastlines anywhere in the world, an isolated stretch of road, mythic in reputation". The views, redwood forests, hiking, beaches, and other recreational opportunities have made Big Sur a popular destination for visitors from across the world. With 4.5 to 7 million visitors annually, it is among the top tourist destinations in the United States, comparable to Yosemite National Park, but with considerably fewer services, and less parking, roads, and related infrastructure.
I'm glad you're out of Sacramento!! That looks like maybe a redtail hawk. Your camera works fine! oooohh! A gimbal! Super cool !! Don't share your spots they get too crowded. Don't feel bad about it either! You have gotten so brave I just love it!
If you have a chance again, Pfeiffer Beach is every bit worth the money. But get there as early as possible so you can get a parking spot and have the beach to yourself for the most part. It's amazing! I was also going to mention Pinacles, but I see you already discovered that. The other place I highly recommend since you're in the vicinity is to go to Point Reyes National Seashore. Absolutely amazing and you're covered with your National Park pass. I recommend North Beach in there for stunning oceanside parking and full strength cell service and nice restrooms. You could spend the whole day there working!
Hey everyone, suggestion let’s watch this video twice since the bar park ones are non-monetized. The peaks and cave was beautiful. You are so good at the bat.park videos!
You should consider the America the Beautiful pass. Last I purchased one a year ago, it was $80. Once you pay, you no longer have to pay to get into any of the National Parks and Forests. In regards to the permit, you could take pictures and talk like other youtubers do. Just a suggestion. Also, i have never seen your videos shaky when walking. I think they look like if I were walking it myself.
Hi Birdie-- when you're going to different cities, check in at the local library. Some libraries offer free passes to local attractions, so you might be able to do more that way when you don't want to or can't pay entrance feesl
Ms Birdie. You are becoming very professional you tuber (in the upmost best way.). Love a day with a Birdie video. Love the idea of your sharing national parks non monetized. New you tuber here. I love that idea. I’m not monetized yet. So so no worries yet.
Thanks so much for showing us God’s beautiful world in your corner of the world! I’m in Canada and love your idea of showing us the parks. I will be following. That sunset was beautiful.
Does Birdie remind anybody else of that song by the Association 'Wendy'? ......who's walking down the street s of the city, smiling at everyboby she sees, who's reaching out to capture a rainbow 🌈 everyone knows its Wendy.....or Birdie for this purpose 😊
Oh my gosh!! I hadn't heard it before but I just went and listened to it. I love it so much! I wish it could be my theme song! 😍 That is so cool I remind you of that. Just made my whole night! ❤️🥰
Birdie, you may want to visit Solvang, a darling little Danish town 30 minutes away from Santa Barbara. Lots of trails around that area too. Also Ojai which is about 40 miles south of Santa Barbara. Also a gorgeous little town and plenty of Nature spots in and around it!
Shoot! I wish I would have looked that up before I left the area. But I'm sure I'll be back there again, and I definitely want to check those places out when I do. Thank you!
Hi! You're finding lots of great spots! Makes me envious since we're not on the road anymore!!😊 Are you going to Quartzsite in AZ? That gimbal (?) would overwhelm me, too! Can't wait to see your Pinnacle video. Stay happy and safe!!❤❤
@@WaywardAbode I wish we'd be there, but due to a health issue, we're off the road and living in an apartment. I'll be so excited to follow your adventures at Q. It's still on my bucket list!
@@dianesilverstein6475 I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles! I hope you have more good days than bad, my friend. I'll keep you in my heart when in Quartzsite so you can visit in a small way. ❤️
If you have a chance, try to go to Solvang. Best little city. They used to have an emu farm nearby as well that was really fun to go to. Looks like your having a great trip. Stay safe.
Big Sur is a section of the California coastline. It is one of my favorite places on the planet, but it is prone to landslides that close Highway 10 1 and yes, it’s very expensive.
I am personally glad you aren't sharing all of the places you find, I want things to remain available and unspoiled and unfortunately for every person who is respectful of spaces, there seem to be 3 that aren't and then we lose these great places. Thank you for protecting them! ❣
You are as cute as a button, excellent idea about concealing your location, gutted the video is not monetised & last but not least, it was MEGA enjoyable young lady!!!
I'm so glad I switched over to your happy channel after watching a recording of the Liam Payne funeral (btw not a 1D fan, I just live within 20 minute drive from where his parent's live and my Mother knows the area he used to live before being famous). I always love finding places off the beaten track, you really do find some gems. I need a gimball as I wobble when walking due to a limp I didn't know I had till I was told😂. I like that you don't share places either too, as you don't know who could be taking note and need to stay safe too. I think you use the apps for travel just to give a vibe about a place and where not to go. As ever Birdie, you made me smile! Drive safely😊
The Liam Payne story is so sad. I'm glad I was able to help lighten your mood a bit. Thank you for always making me feel better when I read your comments. Love you, Nikola. ❤️
Ioverlander - I use it as an entry point to public lands🕶️. And I've been traveling for 10 years, full-time boondocking.. Once you get on the public land area, find a better spot! Don't just count on that one mentioned on the app because it's probably taken already.
Birdie love you so much. I am curious about what you do on a typical day. I wish you would make a video about what is a typical day for van life. Do you get up early? Go to bed late or early. What happens in between? I am not asking to be nosy. And if you don’t want to share that’s cool. I always wonder what would I be doing.
Hi there! I will try to make a day in the life video, but i doubt my day is a lot like other van lifers. Because I struggle with mental health, I spend a lot of my day trying to distract my brain. Usually with games on my phone or UA-cam videos. So my typical day in the life would likely be super boring. I will say, that is one of the struggles of van life. You probably won't be able to do what you're used to in the way you're used to. I miss having a comfy desk to sit at so bad! But ultimately, even though I'm less comfortable and have to find alternatives (like watching videos on my phone rather than a TV or computer, I think you can usually find a way to do whatever you were used to doing. You'll just be doing it in a much smaller space and smaller gadgets. Lol. I am inside my van most of the time. I just go between the back and front seat for variety. 😆
@@WaywardAbodethat could be a subject for a video, to talk about mental health and vanlife. How to deal with it, the effect of living this life on it. Going somewhere and seeing things is lovely but sometimes it’s okay to have a video to talk about certain topics. (Ted talk or Birdie talk).it could be interesting to go back to the same topic after a year. I have watched other channels and how people change over time. So often I see them becoming happier with the freedom and time in nature.
@@WaywardAbode Oh my I am so glad you responded😀. You know I try to do the same thing to distract myself and watching something on my iPad since I don’t have a TV and don’t want one. I asked you because I also struggle with the same issues you are. Right now I am trying to better my life by leaving LA and a toxic family. I can’t take the toxic environment anymore. I know van life isn’t easy but dealing with toxic people around is sucking the life out of me. I love your videos because they are so honest and raw. I wish you the best. I wish I could chat with you in person so many things to say. There is nothing boring about you. You make the simple things in life more interesting .
Hi! I actually just left the UPS store because I had to return it. I'm super bummed about that because it really was life-changing. But it just stopped working. So I'm sending it back, but will get another one as soon as I can, because I already miss it. Lol :)
Hey girl, turns out those Thick Instruction booklets are Thick b/c they are in 4 or 5 languages!! The English part is probably Not Too Long in reality! DONT LET THE THICKNESS INTIMIDATE YOU! LOVE YOU, STAY SAFE❤🙏😊
Heyyy Bestie 👋🏻🤗 can’t wait to see the Pinnacles video. Once you learn the Gimbal you can teach me when we finally meet up 😅 still haven’t figured mine out 😝💎🫶
It is snowing here today in Southwestern Wisconsin! First snow ot the year here. Wishing I could be where you are, in the California sunshine! Hope you make it to the Pinnacle Park! And good luck learning to use your new camera equipment. Love the video!! Take care and be safe!! LeeAnn 🌸
Sister, are you serious? I was in Soledad 1.5 weeks ago, we keep passing each other EVERYWHERE. I was there for PINNACLES too, Veteran’s weekend. OMG I stayed at the Lone Tree and looked at that sign too! Also, I ran into this Big Sur situation a year ago couldn’t go up north. One day I bet we’ll run into each other, maybe AZ in Feb. I vote not to give coordinates. Nevada City/Grass Valley was super van friendly, no more. Oh NO! The West cave was so much more fun for me than the East. Shorter hike too. Prettier scenery, maybe you’ll see a condor on the East though. Love ya, Birdie.
You're kidding me! I need to hug you! The universe needs to get it together. How cool would it be if we just ran into each other at a grocery store or something? Are you going to the RTR?
You could make money if you got sponsors. What about Temu? Or Bear Paw shoes? Or Brooklyn Bedding? I know about a spot in Isla Vista, near UCSB. Its a garden near the community. Thats a riddle, to keep it on the dl. Its safe and sweet, a block from the ocean.
Omg you are in my Hometown/stomping grounds! Headed back there soon…. It’s magical but yes girl expensive! You got beautiful weather! I’ll send you some cash when I can again afford toilet paper . Wish I could have been there to guide you around! Carmel is kinda uppity I might add’
Very cool! I did love it. I hope I can take another stab at better exploring the area, maybe on the way back up. If you're there when I do, we should totally meet up! ❤️
As always, so happy to see you!! I’ve taken a lot of tips from you on how to find spots. Birdie, how do I find your mailing address? (Will you be going to Quartzsite in January? I plan to attend and hope to see you!)
Hi, bestie! I am absolutely going to the RTR. I'm so glad that means we'll get to meet! 🥰 I'm currently in the process of maybe changing my mailing service, so I really don't have an address to give. But I so appreciate that you want it. Thank you so much!
As far as filming in national parks, I had heard that that law or rule is going to be overturned soon so it’s smart to keep that video separate so you can monetize it down the road.
Thanks for only putting ads at the beginning and end of your videos. I’ll watch them for you. It’s the videos with ads at the beginning, end, and about every 5 minutes during the video that make me 🤬 😂😂😂
I feel the exact same way. In my mind, commercials should never come up more than every 20 to 30 minutes or so. It just doesn't feel right to put more ads than that. I really appreciate you noticing that. Thank you!

I recommend North Beach in there for stunning oceanside parking and full strength cell service and nice restrooms. You could spend the whole day there working!
Thank you so much for the recommendations. I've left the area, but I am sure I'll be back. I'll write this down for later. Thank you! ❤️
That gimbal is nice 👍 you can take us for hikes and it can even be rough ground. Cool toys!
No need to share exact location...part of the fun of travel is the self discovery
Hey everyone, suggestion let’s watch this video twice since the bar park ones are non-monetized.
The peaks and cave was beautiful.
You are so good at the bat.park videos!
making your own notes on how to use your new gimble will help you with remembering how to use it :)
I love your travels.
❤❤stay safe
Thank you so much 💓
Good afternoon my love friend sending love and hugs from cold rainy breezy WV 💝
Hi!! I hope you're staying cozy! ❤️
Here with ya Dawn !
@@WaywardAbode yes we are made some homemade Taco soup 🍲 ( definitely a comfort food))
Love you Birdie❤ be safe and have yourself a great day❤❤😂
Beautiful scenery! Great video Birdee my friend please stay safe and happy!!❤️🤗
Thank you! You too!
Birdie makes it FUN!
Very cool Birdie ✌️
Thank you! ❤️
Great video. You're awesome.
I lived in Greenfield years ago and spent summers at Arroyo Seco. Very close to Soledad, check them out, gorgeous scenery.
Wow that dollar store was awesome! We don't have any like that here in Oklahoma-not that I know of 😊❤
I always get at least one wrong turn too 😂 thanks for sharing your journey!! Love ya Birdie ❤
I love you back! ❤️
A Birdie Teaser! Can’t wait for The Pinnacles video.
Yay!! Hi! ❤️🥰
I love the ocean so much
Have a great day stay safe 💝
You too, sweet friend.
Thank you!
We are awaiting a snow next few days 🥶❄️
Hi! You're finding lots of great spots! Makes me envious since we're not on the road anymore!!😊 Are you going to Quartzsite in AZ? That gimbal (?) would overwhelm me, too! Can't wait to see your Pinnacle video. Stay happy and safe!!❤❤
I am, indeed, going to the RTR in Quartzsite. :) Will you be there? 🤞
@@WaywardAbode.
whyyy?
@@Mmm...yummymummy I'm sorry, I don't understand. Why what?
@@WaywardAbode I wish we'd be there, but due to a health issue, we're off the road and living in an apartment. I'll be so excited to follow your adventures at Q. It's still on my bucket list!
@@dianesilverstein6475 I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles! I hope you have more good days than bad, my friend. I'll keep you in my heart when in Quartzsite so you can visit in a small way. ❤️
Have fun!!😊
So much enjoyment today! One of the other youtubers I follow swears by the army corps of engineers rv parking sites. Might be worth a boo!
If you have a chance, try to go to Solvang. Best little city. They used to have an emu farm nearby as well that was really fun to go to. Looks like your having a great trip. Stay safe.
Thanks for sharing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for being here! ❤️
Big Sur is a section of the California coastline. It is one of my favorite places on the planet, but it is prone to landslides that close Highway 10 1 and yes, it’s very expensive.
Birdie do you have the Caltrans app on your phone? because that would’ve let you know about that road closure
I hadn't heard of that app, but I'll definitely be downloading it now. Thank you!!!
Mine too. And LK.TAHOE. CALI WAS A wONdERLAND 50 yr.s ago. paradise 130.
I am heading to Quartzsite, AZ this weekend. Let me know if you will be there this winter. Swankie of Nomadland
You're mega enjoyable!! Thank you so much! 🥰
I think it's nec.to her ch. to tell her over nite places...afew days after she leaves..that is why half of u watch, right?
So glad you’re not sharing coordinates. I think it keeps you safer, too. I know you have moved on, but still.
Ioverlander - I use it as an entry point to public lands🕶️. And I've been traveling for 10 years, full-time boondocking.. Once you get on the public land area, find a better spot! Don't just count on that one mentioned on the app because it's probably taken already.
Totally agree. Thank you! ❤️
If you hadn’t made the turn you would’ve missed out on parking by the tree and hearing all the birds sing for you!
What an amazing perspective. That is so true! ❤️
Love me some Birdie!
Ooh, I love you back!!
Thank you Birdy!!!❤
The road to Pfeiffer is Sycamore Canyon. Big Sur is 72 miles long. You were in it from the beginning of the vid until the Road Closed Sigh.
Oh no! I knew I was being dumb. I should have had you with me! We would have had so much fun!!
@ We would have. YOU are a fun person to be around.,,Glad you got to see Pinnacles, too.
@@WaywardAbodenot having a decent map isn’t necessarily dumb 😅 I only last year learned that Wales is a country. The right map helps. 😆

My guess, alot of f.fd n cookies.😅
How is the fixed mounted solar panel working for you? Buletti has a DC charger that might work for you also.

Me neither! 😭 but we'll get there. Are you gonna be at the RTR? Worst comes to worst we can do it together if we haven't learned by then!

Yes I will be there this year.
How many solo female Vanlife UA-camrs does it take to work a Gimbal? 🤔🤣😂
We Can Do This! 💪🏻
Great video Birdie❤
Thank you! 🤗
It is snowing here today in Southwestern Wisconsin! First snow ot the year here. Wishing I could be where you are, in the California sunshine! Hope you make it to the Pinnacle Park! And good luck learning to use your new camera equipment. Love the video!! Take care and be safe!! LeeAnn 🌸
Oooh, snow! I hope you're staying warm while watching it fall. 🤗
Hey girl good to see you 😊
You too! ❤️
Heyyy Annette 🤗👋🏻💎
@ 💎 Crystal!!! Isn’t Birdie fun? 🤩
@
Yes she certainly is. I can’t wait to finally get to meet her (and meet you too my friend) I feel like we know each other somehow 🤷🏼♀️🫶💎
You're kidding me! I need to hug you! The universe needs to get it together. How cool would it be if we just ran into each other at a grocery store or something? Are you going to the RTR?
@ I know! Please let me know if you make it to the west. MoBang is on here too, I’ve seen him comment before. Love our little community. ❤️🤗
Im with you- I find my own spots too
I hope we get to run into each other someday! :)
@ that would be fun!
Hi Birdie!!
Hi, bestie!
Omg you are in my
Hometown/stomping grounds!
I'm currently in the process of maybe changing my mailing service, so I really don't have an address to give. But I so appreciate that you want it. Thank you so much!

Good to see you friend ❤ safe travels 🤗
Hunni,I've always wanted to see Cali!
I hope you get to!! 🤗
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
As far as filming in national parks, I had heard that that law or rule is going to be overturned soon so it’s smart to keep that video separate so you can monetize it down the road.
Interesting and very good to know. Thank you, Ana! ❤️
Thanks for only putting ads at the beginning and end of your videos. I’ll watch them for you. It’s the videos with ads at the beginning, end, and about every 5 minutes during the video that make me 🤬
😂😂😂
I feel the exact same way. In my mind, commercials should never come up more than every 20 to 30 minutes or so. It just doesn't feel right to put more ads than that. I really appreciate you noticing that. Thank you!
Watch a video for setup...you can do anything...make movies.❤️😎
I use you tube to help learn how stuff works, hth😊
Will your park pass work?¿
Not for state parks, unfortunately.
