I loved dear Acker, such a truly wonderful man and yet so quick witted. We often went to see him at Strode theatre and really enjoyed it. I once wrote telling him just how much we loved his concerts, he wrote back and sent a beautiful photo of himself sitting on his lounge floor, clarinet in hand and a lovely smile. We framed it and thoroughly enjoy it. God bless Acker and his dear wife, Jean.
I worked with Kenny Ball for his last 15 years or so and did many back to back shows with Acker and the 3 B's shows with Ball, Bilk and Barber bands. Acker was a smashing bloke to know and work with, always good value and sorely missed, as is Kenny...
Thanks for your message James. I'd be interested to know if you have any contact details for Kenny's family, as he was also a subject of This Is Your Life - and sadly, his programme has been wiped.
@@bigredbook24 Sorry but I live abroad now and have my the Ball bands contact details with me. I don't have his son's contact number and I wouldn't pass them on without his permission, you can find him on Facebook though I think under Kenny Ball Junior... .
For over 50 years his Stranger On the Shore stuck in my head. My Dad played clarinet also. I had no idea how to even ask the name or artist? A few days ago I hummed it into an email message to a friend, on the chance... He knew the song and artist!! Now, I can't get enough Acker! This song is so haunting and beautiful.

A tune it’s possible to bring to your mind so very easily. A wonderful gent and comic, so lovely.
