The A340 is extremely fun to fly. It's feels like a very big aircraft with these 4 engines but is so much more easy to control
Ive heard the complete opposite.
But easy tailstrike
@@qualcunooo because mad long.
@@FORMULA1NEWS. bro you replied to the top commented not the actual video
I can agree
I personally love the A340. I'm a sucker for 4 engine Airliners, and the A340 in particular is an unfortunate victim of the times it was born into. It's the best plane that never got to realize it's true potential.
Same i like 4 engined aircraft like the B-707 (the first Boeing) the douglas dc-8 and more
@@ameerzaffran6516 that puts you and I in the same boat
@EzekielAutomotive the 600 is my favorite as well. Though the 300 does hold a special place in my heart

We totally get that 😊 had a change of plane and airline on a Lufthansa booked fare. Was Cathay on the A350 from Hong Kong. Became Lufthansa A340.... We were frustrated at first. However it was a lot of fun ❤
Might be the last time we fly an A340

Along with the change in the ETOPS rules, the introduction of the 777 in 1995 was the final nail in the coffin for the A340
A340 was just getting started then. Its new deliveries occurred between 1993 and 2012.
You might say 777 was the first nail in its coffin, not the final. But that first nail wasn't in 1995, as the original 777-200 had much less range. Entering service two years later in 1997, the 777-200ER had competitive range with A340-300, so that could be the first nail.
I would say the final nail in coffin hasn't come yet, since over half of A340s built are still in service now in 2023.
@@TonyM132 i think the final nail was the a350 because now airlines could finally replace the a340.
I mean the A340-600 is an improved version with bigger engines, fixing the lack of power the previous ones made
Yea, but those bigger engines burn a lot more fuel while the A340-300 is somewhat efficient with those small engines.
@@Bonazest9169 Yeah, they intended it to have those engines, wish they thought about it and realized earlier :(
Also, the A340 500

dang swiss i really appreciate u doing more irl videos lately, really makes the channel a whole lot better.
You missed to show the best part on these toilets: They’re downstairs!! Yes, you have to take a few steps down before you stand in front of 8 (?) wonderful bathrooms 😍 This gives you a bit of double-decker plane feeling without even flying on a double decker :D
Only in the 340-600 though
The 747 is more of a true double decker even though the upper deck is only on the front half, though the cockpit is on the upper deck. The A380 is awesome as the upper deck stretched across a full length.
“It seems like I completely forgot about the A380, GOD DAMNIT-,” had me dying 😂
Everyone dies because of something. STOP THESE COMMENTS ABOUT DYING
@@stevetesta6680 due to that fact that I can’t tell if you’re joking, “had me dying” means dying of laughter, which means laughing hysterically.
Tim seems like such a chill guy
Yeah
Swiss's story with the a340 is similar to my story with the 767. I used to hate it, saying it was better off being scrapped, but I've now realized it's amazing, especially for longer flights with maybe a little less demand. Basically I think it has a good mixture of size and range. It can be used on high demand flights between us cities, or lower demand transatlantic flights. It's kind of a great aircraft overall
Tim has his own segment with fancy music? Wonderful!
Long live the plane built for a different long gone time, underpowered & inefficient…and that’s why we love the A340!
The -200 and -300 variants looked a little goofy with the small engines, but the -500 and -600 variants were awesome. Just so huge and soaring like a hawk.
Certainly one of the best looking commercial aircraft of all time particularly the 340-600, they look like a proper aeroplane with long fuselage , 4 engines and hefty middle landing gear, simply beautiful.
My first flight ever was on an A340 on Virgin Atlantic from Johannesburg to London, it was amazing, it felt massive and though a lot say it doesnt have a lot of power, it does without pushing you too far back in your seat from takeoff. One of my best memories is on the A340. It is simply incredible.
you should fly in the 340-600 next, its even better!
Yeah Swiss
The A340 is surely consuming too much fuel (you could easily see the smokey trails following the -300 aircrafts during the takeoff), though in my opinion it's extremely elegant aircraft, especially the -600 variant that I love a lot. They must have been an amazing treat back then when they were introduced if flying them right now is still so comfy and quiet. Thanks for that video!
2:12 Anyone notice that he put 787 image when he said A350 💀
10:54 lol
(should we tell them that those are CRTs)
In my opinion, the A340 is really underrated. Sure, it's not the best plane and but also not a crappy one either. I actually like it's looks, airliners with 4 engines are always awesome and don't have to be a jumbo. Just looking at the A340 kinda gives nostalgic vibes, especially the Edelweiss one in my opinion. I even heard that people enjoyed flying the A340 much more than the 777, which is a little bit overrated to be honest. And hey, the A340-600 is pretty much one of the longest planes ever made!
the a340-600 WAS the longest plane ever made and the a340-500 used to have the longest range in any plane.
Watching Swiss have an epiphany about the A340 is amazing, love these vlogs Swiss!
The points guy should take notes 😂 8:04
One of my favorites! Probably the last ever proper 4-engine airliner that's not funny shaped like an A380 or 747, so it's like the last spiritual successor of the 707 and DC-8 which were burned into my brain decades ago as what a proper airliner is supposed to look like. And yes, I will never feel as safe over the ocean with 2 engines as I would with 3 or 4. I've sadly never been on one, but my sister has, on Lufthansa even. For all I know, this could have been the exact same A340 she was on 25 years ago.
Great flog swiss, nice to see you have met the boy of your dreams. "Dominic looks great in those Levi boxers"
I have literally flown on this exact plane! D-AIGN, from Tokyo Haneda to Frankfurt on November 28, 2021, as flight LH717. Was a nice flight, just too bad that my window was very scratched, so it wasn't easy to record anything. I visited the cockpit after landing as well, and the cabin crew was very friendly
Hey Swiss , the a340 wasnt meant for those engines it was meant for the engines on the new a220 but larger but the company making those engines pulled out and airbus had to make a plan because it was already being pre-ordered. Good video
You forgot to thank your channel members
5:36 at least it works unlike on the 747
When Swiss pops up in his chair it’s like he is the in the back of swiss001s head on the day also will the shortest flight in Scotland be coming up ??
I can 100% agree. Flied on it about 4-5 years ago to Toronto with Air Canada and would love to fly it again ❤. Thanks for sharing this experience 😊
😂😂😂 some flew in it and you flied 😂😂
I am loving these vlogs and I just wanted to say keep up the good work and never give up.
Funny thing is that now our swiss guy takes breaks from the gaming chair and can actually fly real planes showing his face and charisma. I remember years ago when there were only flies at the simulator, then the face review (I was there live!).. great to see you still around 😊
These actually aren’t old LCDs - they are CRTs (cathode ray tube). In my opinion, cockpits that still have them look awesome. Airbus started using LCDs in the mid 2000s with EIS 2.
We can see that swiss001's vlogging skills are evolving.
Thank you.Hi swiss, you probably won't see this but I just wanted to thank you for the years of entertainment you have brought us, viewers and you definitely need more recognition and appreciation.
Swiss is the first UA-camr to make a reaction video to his own vlog lmao
It’s the only modern airbus I haven’t been on yet. It looks like a longer Airbus A330 but with an extra engine on each wing.
I love it when Swiss says things like “absolutely nice”
Bro woke up and decided to fly with a pencil
11:39 why i luagh with ur face😂😂😂😮💨
Considering their size difference, A340 "only" selling 100 more than A380 is indeed a failure.
Not to mention A380 was a categorial failure (demand for airliner this size is small + large hub concept is wrong), while A340 was more of the problem of the model itself.
My country's flag carrier, China Airlines (of Taiwan, not to be confused with Air China of China), was a real A300 series lover. They bought A300, A330 and A340. And guess who was retired the earliest? A330-300 is only beginning to be replaced by 787-9 in 2025, and A340... well, here's how it went:
A300: 1982~2007 (defeating very short service life'd 767s in the process), 20 used
A330: 2004~2025+ (most likely won't disappear until 2030-ish), total 25 used
A340: 2001~2017, with only 5 ever used.
Hi swiss, you probably won't see this but I just wanted to thank you for the years of entertainment you have brought us, viewers and you definitely need more recognition and appreciation.
Every other airline: We will scrap our old planes!
Lufthansa: *how about we keep them*

Such an amazing aircraft to fly on from my experience. The engine super loud from the back especially with its 4 smaller CFM engines. I honestly prefer -300 over -600 anytime.
But its weak af
@@CY5588 I know but it still looks better imo
I love how u got over your fear of recording in public love ur vids
To me it was an excellent plane on transatlantic flights. It replaced the very old Tristar in the routes I used to take as a kid and it seemed so modern and slick. As mentioned in the video it was replaced fast though.
The fact that it replaced the Tristar gives me all the reason in the world to undeservedly hate the A340.
@@h8GW if I read you correctly : the tristar was indeed a great plane too. Almost every other plane after that to me seemed small. Tristar was comfortable, silent and I enjoyed it well. The cabin had beautiful proportions and light. The light was very subtle, warm and inviting.
I had kinda the same feeling with the A220. I went from dislike to love this plane.

No the flying pencil needs more love
The "extremely bad weather conditions fooock" got me 😂
If you count volume produced/sold not by airframe unit count, but instead by total combined seat count, or by total revenue generated by their sales, then the A380 might have outsold A340. It would be very close anyway.
I like the A340 much better, but I don't think it's right to say it was more successful than A380. Depending how you define "success," I think the 380 probably has been more successful.

Literally one day before I was flying away. Would have been nice to have seen you there haha
The engine choise quite actually makes sense, because airbus prommised a really fuel efficient plane that has a big range with one engine failing (i forgot the term), but engine manufacturer bankrupted, and airbus needed to make the efficiency cime true, and put really small engines on the plane. Other models such as 600 have more powerfull engines, but theyre really fuel thirsty.
Swiss your'e a complete legend ❤
I’d say so too
Its very amusing watching Swiss eat his own words lmao
People forget the original choice of the engines on the a340 was not CFM but had to be since PW's GTF technology delayed
The "worst" Airbus might be an A340 you know, namely the A340-200. You need to give some thought and explanation to how you define "better vs worse". I suggest it could be defined by the number of missions, business models, and times in history for which the airplane could be a preferable choice for its operator. By that measure, A342 could be the worst. It is hard to identify any time/place/scenario when an A343 wasn't a much better choice.
But it seems you want to identify an entire aircraft family as worst, not just one variant. Airbus has only produced six airplane families in its history: A300/310, 320, 330, 340, 380, 350. It's hard to say any of them are "bad" as an entire family, but it would make an interesting discussion anyway. Again, after you have given some kind of appropriate definition to better vs worse, which certainly shouldn't be just unit count of airframes sold!
sometimes it's good stress relief by making fun of yourself in healthy ways to get some laughs from it 😂 well done my friend 😉
Still never flown onboard the A340 but i really wanted to do that and in fact I have an FYI. According to my analysis, As of February 2023, at least 130 A340s are still operational across 4 variants :
8 Airbus A340-200
67 Airbus A340-300
19 Airbus A340-500 and
36 Airbus A340-600

I had the chance to fly on Air Canada's A340s, both the A340-300 and the A340-500 before they retired them. They're such a beautiful aircraft, especially the -500, Still my favourite flying experience to this day
swiss being family freindly 11:16
How on earth no one in Flight Simulator has produced any high fidelity A340s yet is madness.
You forget how the A380 is designed for intercontinental flight. Meanwhile, the pencil- I mean A340- is made for international flight (European/Asian flights). Therefore, the two are not comparable by sales. Plus, the A380 is better for higher-end airlines due to its sheer size. Also, fly Emirates or Singaporean if you’ve never been on an A380.
Hello! I know this isn’t really a question to the a340, but on msfs 2020, how can you get out from the cockpit and walk around the plane?
I flew an a340 to Müchen, I got the bulkhead so I had about 5 feet of leg room and also Lufthansa had great service giving me my much needed schnitzel.
6:45 those chocolates are fireeee
I now dare you to fly with a tailwind Boeing 737-400 it's probably the oldest 737 flying in Europe and it even still has a board mechanic. You can fly it from DRS to AYT.
All the homies love Tim
On a flight from FRA to CDG, the A343 most definitely was NOT using TOGA thrust LOL
